IgbereTV reports that the Management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) admission has stated that admission is ongoing in the institution despite the Covid-19 lockdown in Nigeria.
According to IgbereTV reports, Director of Media and Publicity, NOUN, Mr. Ibrahim Sheme made it known in a statement he issued on Thursday that the university’s portal remained open contrary to reports in the social media that it had been shut.
Sheme said the negative reports peddled by some “idle minds” had hampered efforts by students and candidates to complete their registration.
“The portal of the university remains open; however, management wishes to indicate that students and candidates seeking admission will definitely encounter a hitch in the second leg of registration process which has nothing to do with the university portal.
“There are two steps in completing registration at NOUN.
The first is the one on the university portal and the second is the one at the study centre of one’s choice.
“Whilst the first can be successfully done from any location, a student or candidate for admission is required to go to his or her chosen study centre to complete the registration.
“Understandably, it has become impossible to finish one’s registration in the second and final leg due to the ongoing lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.
“However, students should take note that if one has not been able to complete one’s registration in this semester, he or she can do so in the next semester.
“This shows that we are flexible, unlike the conventional universities.
The university management urged NOUN students to strictly adhere to the stay-at-home order and other safety protocols aimed at curbing the spread of Coronavirus, to enable them survive the pandemic and continue with their educational pursuit when the lockdown is over.

The repercussion, if they succeed - looting, rapping, killing are what Mr President Muhammadu Buhari must not allow to come to bear.
Mr President Buhari had signed to protect the lives of Nigerians and that, he must do.
The eventuality, and failure to protect Nigerians "Lagosians" at this time of call is a big failure in the nations entire system.
We await and watch this "One Million Boys" succeed in their threats in any area of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole, then we'll know, the government is not ready to protect her citizens.

Lai Mohammed, minister of information, says the federal government cannot share funds donated by the private sector to fight coronavirus to Nigerians.
According to NAN, the minister gave reasons why the donated funds cannot be shared to citizens when he featured on “Politics Nationwide”, a Radio Nigeria programme, on Tuesday.
Responding to a request that a part of the funds be shared to Nigerians to cushion the effect of the lockdown on them, the minister said the funds are meant for the development of healthcare infrastructure and cannot be used to provide palliatives.
Mohammed said the presidential task force for the control of coronavirus neither had the money nor was in control of it, and cannot share a penny from it to anyone.
“The private sector donors are not giving any cash to the federal government and they have made this clear to the people,” he was quoted to have said.
“They said they will support the fight against the pandemic by asking government where they want healthcare infrastructure to be provided.
“What government has done is to request them to build a 30-bed isolation ward and a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit in each state in the country.
“In addition, the federal government has given them a list of equipment and commodities that will also be needed
“Therefore, the issue of using their donations to provide palliative cannot arise.”
He said in addressing the issue of palliatives, every country adopted a peculiar strategy that was workable and acceptable.
The minister said the federal government had taken a lot of measures to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on Nigerians, including food distribution, cash transfers, and loan repayment waivers.
He said Nigeria was leading and remains the best in Africa in the area of provision of palliative to citizens as the world battles the scourge.
Covid-19: Shocker!!! Bill Gates May Have Created Coronavirus To Microchip People -Roger Stone
IgbereTV reports that American political consultant, lobbyist, author and Trump's Adviser, Roger Stone, on Monday suggested that Bill Gates may have had a hand in the creation of coronavirus so that he could plant microchips in people’s bodies to know who has and has not been tested for COVID-19.
“Whether Bill Gates played some role in the creation and spread of this virus is open for vigorous debate. I have conservative friends who say it’s ridiculous and others say absolutely,” Stone told Joe Piscopo, host of the radio program “The Answer” on 970 AM, who had asked about conspiracy theories regarding the pandemic.
“He and other globalists are using it for mandatory vaccinations and microchipping people so we know if they’ve been tested. Over my dead body. Mandatory vaccinations? No way, Jose!” Stone told a fawning Piscopo.
IgbereTV recalls that Bill Gates had predicted the Covid-19 pandemic in 2015, when he said, “We’re not ready for the next epidemic. The greatest risk of global catastrophe looks like a virus. Not missiles, but microbes."
Gates warned that humanity had invested “very little” in systems that could contain the next pandemic, and that a failure to prepare could make the next one “dramatically more devastating than Ebola”.
Gates' prediction appears to be accurate, as Ebola killed about 10,000 people while Covid-19 has killed more than 100,000 people.
But the prediction made by Mrs. Gates, wife of Bill Gates, about the Covid-19 pandemic in Africa made the theory of microchipping bodies look more convincing. She warned that if the world does not act fast enough, then there will be dead bodies all over the streets of Africa
She said, “Its going to be horrible in the developing world. “Part of the reasons you are seeing the case numbers still do not look very bad, is because they don’t have access to many tests. “Look at what is happening in Ecuador, they are putting bodies out on the streets, you are going to see that in countries in Africa."
IgbereTV reports that Abia state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has just concluded the inspection of ongoing work at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Ogbor Hill, Aba, which is one of the newly designated isolation centers in the state.
Governor Ikpeazu expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the site and directed the state inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 to ensure that the facility was ready and fully equipped by Friday to add to the other isolation centers already in place in the state.
Recall that the state government had earlier readied three other isolation centers in the state: Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Amachara, Umuahia, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia and Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba, to manage and treat the unlikely emergence of coronavirus patients in the state.
Speaking to newsmen after the inspection, Governor Ikpeazu called on management of Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, and other private hospitals in the state to stop the practice of turning away patients with common cough and other ailments but follow the practice guidelines regarding the management of COVID-19 patients. He directed the State Commssioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, to investigate a petition received from a relative of one of the patients turned away by FMC who reportedly died as a result of abandonment.
He assured that the state has the resources to nurse any COVID-19 patient back to good health and called on those who suspect they have the virus to call 0700 2242 362 for immediate attention.
Governor Ikpeazu who informed that with the Executive Order signed by him on the management of COVID-19, it is illegal for anyone to leave his house without wearing a face mask until the pandemic is brought under control.
On border closure, the Governor informed that he has directed men of the Homeland Security in the state to take primary responsibility for sealing the state borders while other security agencies support them. He vowed to deal with union leaders of motor parks in the state still allowing operations of inter-state buses during this lockdown.
The Governor was accompanied on the visit by the state Commissioners for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, Homeland Security, Prince Dan Okoli and Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, among other top government officials.
IgbereTV reports that the Anambra State Government has condemned the propaganda materials against the person said to be the state’s coronavirus index case.
According to information made available to IgbereTV by the State's Commissioner for information and public enlightenment, Don Adinuba, on Sunday, the propaganda materials which includes social media broadcasts, began to emerge within 24 hours after the state recorded its index case on Friday, April 10.
The commissioner described the materials as "slanderous and violate all known medical ethics."
He further stated that the information were obviously made by persons who want to raise a false alarm and create panic everywhere.
He continued, "The state government has not revealed the name of the index case, nor have the hospital authorities where he is receiving treatment now or has been treated in recent times. Therefore, the identity revealed on the social media broadcasts is merely speculative."
"No COVID-19 patient anywhere has received the kind of attention given to Anambra’s index case. Yet, there are about 300 confirmed COVID-19 patients in Nigeria alone."
"The social media does not publish their identities until when they have been treated successfully and the persons affected decide to speak in public forums about their experience. It is difficult to understand the hoopla over Anambra’s index case."
"COVID-19 is no death sentence. Its mortality rate is far less than that of, say, Lassa fever, another viral disease which reared its head in the state some two months ago. It was treated with the same clinical efficiency with which the COVID-19 index case is being treated. It is, indeed, reassuring that the index case is in stable condition. The despicable behavior of the people making and promoting the propaganda materials against our index case does not define the character of ndi Anambra. We are known for superabundance of humanism. We are famous for our acute sense of solidarity. We are reputed for tremendous support especially to those in distress, hence the popular aphorism, onye aghana nwanne ya, is at the centre of our world. We have always been our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper."
"We would also like to caution a section of the media keenly interested in causing a press war between the index case and the government. No controversy is needed. This is no time for any form of sensationalism. It is in no person’s interest. The country, like the rest of the world, is at a critical moment."
"To repeat the obvious, Anambra’s COVID-19 index case does not deserve the kind of publicity he is receiving, nor is he deserving of the opprobrium which his detractors want him to go through. His privacy must be respected. He is a law-abiding citizen, a philanthropist and a major investor in key sectors of the state. He needs peace, cooperation, emotional stability and prayers from all and sundry, apart from sound medical attention. Of course, he is getting excellent attention in one of the finest protection centres in the state. We are proud we built the first protection centre, otherwise known as isolation centre, which meets World Health Organisation (WHO) standards. We have also trained the personnel, including cleaners, to manage COVID-19 cases professionally."
"We are in the Easter week like the rest of the world. Peace, unity, reconciliation, solidarity and the wellbeing and future of all our people should guide our thoughts, utterances and behavior. God bless Anambra State, the Light of the Nation."
Gateman Who Boarded A Public Transport Vehicle Tests Positive For Covid-19 After Journey
IgbereTV reports that Kaduna State Government has confirmed a new case of Coronavirus, a gateman who recently traveled from Lagos into the state.
A statement released by the state Commissioner for Health, Amina Mohammed Baloni, said the fresh case is a gateman in the Mando area who recently returned from Lagos. Baloni said the patient had no connection to the first five cases in the state.
Dr Baloni said the sixth case had traveled on public transport and contacted the authorities as his symptoms worsened. He said the patient has been evacuated to the state’s Infectious Disease Centre.”
The Commissioner added that the latest case presents the nightmare scenario of possible community transmission of Covid-19 in the state as it would be very difficult and complicated to trace all those he might have had contact with while commuting in a public transport from Lagos to Kaduna.
“The Rapid Response Team is trying its utmost to elicit from him a list of his contacts, so that they can be traced and monitored. He does not know who his fellow passengers from Lagos are. But the team is working to develop an idea of his local contacts in Kaduna, including any vehicles he commuted in and people he met at the hospital he visited and within his neighbourhood,” she said.
Recall that Kaduna State has recorded six cases of Coronavirus, among whom is Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of the state.

I Consumed Vitamin C, Carrots, Black Seed Oil & Honey To Fight Covid-19 - Governor Makinde
IgbereTV reports that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has revealed that he took carrots, black seed oil, honey and vitamin C as he battled the Coronavirus disease during his isolation period.
Governor Makinde on March 30, announced he had tested positive for Coronavirus and was going into Isolation.
On Sunday April 5, he took to his Twitter handle to announce that he had become negative after series of tests.
IgbereTV monitored an interview the governor had with Fresh FM Ibadan on Monday April 6, in which he said that he boosted his immunity to fight coronavirus by consuming vitamin C, carrots and black seed oil mixed with honey.
He said, “My very good friend and brother, Dr Muyideen Olatunji is the one in charge of the primary healthcare for Oyo State. He came to me and said, look, I am going to send to you this black seed oil, it boosts immunity. So, I mixed it with honey and took one teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening.
So, there are local solutions to boost immunity. Our people should not fret. Just as I’ve been able to get the virus out off my system, so will it be for majority of our people. I’ve lost a little bit of weight which I think is good. When you’re in isolation, the tendency is just to watch television and eat, I was eating amala. But I was also using the treadmill. It has also been a period to reflect and look at the programmes, policies and the things we want to do for the people of Oyo state and also reflect on how the COVID-19 is going to affect us socially and economically.”

IgbereTV reports that former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Friday donated N10m to the Anambra State COVID-19 Fund.
Anambra state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba made this news available to IgbereTV. According to Don Adinuba, when the money was paid this afternoon into the Fidelity Bank account of Anambra COVID-19 Fund, he called Prof. Soludo to acknowledge the kind gesture. “You don’t need to thank me. It is our collective responsibility to rise up to the historic challenge of this moment and support the excellent leadership of our Governor in his proactive efforts to shield our people or minimize the damages of the COVID-19 scourge”, Soludo said.
Soludo also commended the efforts of the Federal Government, the Bishops and clergy of the various church denominations in Anambra, the market associations, traditional rulers, leaders of town unions, political parties, civil society organizations, teachers and public servants, students and youths, captains of industry, and indeed all Anambra people for their unity of purpose in co-operating with the government to defeat the common threat. “I am working hard with my foundation and friends on the finishing phase of a 120-bed hospital we are building, which will be managed by the Church, as well as contribution to my Party’s COVID-19 Fund. We are also mobilizing resources and doing quite a lot at the community level, but you know that I don’t indulge in what I call opportunistic charity and so I won’t talk more about these. The point is that a time like this requires everyone to do something, however little, to help”, Soludo added.
Prof. Soludo particularly praised Gov. Obiano for the comprehensive plan to combat the virus, and more so the compassionate stimulus package to lessen the hardship of the lockdown on the most vulnerable.
Professor Soludo expressed satisfaction with the state’s preparedness and farsightedness in the campaign against the coronavirus”, citing the 16-bed bed isolation centre at the Onitsha General Hospital and the 240- bed isolation centre at the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Complex at Mbaukwu-Umuawaulu in Awka South Local Government Area, renovation of Ekwulobia and Umueri General Hospitals, as good examples of effective measures to mitigate the disease if it gets into the state.
He also praised the state government for training medical personnel like doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and even cleaners in the professional management of viral cases. “Still”, he noted, “a lot still needs to be done like the provision of more personal protection equipment, face masks, ventilators, ICU equipment, medicines and other materials”.
“This is the time we must all rise, irrespective of political affiliations or status, to be our neighbours’ keeper. I commend the national Chairman of APGA, Ozonkpu (Dr.) Victor Oye, for his initiative in mobilizing resources for the most vulnerable members of the party during this lockdown (in the spirit of its motto: “be your brother’s and sister’s keeper”) and I urge other political parties to emulate this. At a time like this, no one is too poor to give: if everyone gives N10, we will mobilize millions! Let everyone who can, send “something”—just any amount--- to that COVID-19 bank account and do something for your neighbour”, Soludo concluded.
