The pandemic caused by a new virus has brought the world to its knees, but that has not deterred a couple in Chhattisgarh to name their newborn twins as 'Corona' and 'Covid'.

The two words evoke fear and devastation in minds of others, but for the Raipur-based couple, they symbolise triumph over hardships. The twins - a boy and a girl - were born during the ongoing novel coronavirus-enforced nationwide lockdown.

The names, they said, would remind them about all the hardships they conquered amid the lockdown, ahead of a successful delivery on the intervening night of March 26-27 at a government hospital in Raipur.

However, the couple said they may change their decision later and rename their kids.

"I was blessed with the twins - a boy and a girl - in the early hours on March 27. We have named them Covid (boy) and Corona (girl) for now," Preeti Verma, the 27-old mother of the newborns, told news agency PTI.

"The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, my husband and me wanted to make the day memorable. Indeed, the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names," she said, giving reasons for their unusual decision.

"When the hospital staff also started calling the babies as Corona and Covid, we finally decided to name them after the pandemic," she said.

"On late night of March 26, I suddenly experienced severe labour pain and somehow my husband arranged an ambulance operated under 102 Mahtari Express service. As no vehicular movement was allowed on roads due to the lockdown, we were stopped by police at various places but they let us go after noticing my condition," Verma said.

"I was wondering what would happen in the hospital as it was midnight, but fortunately doctors and other staff were very cooperative," she said.

"Our relatives, who wanted to reach the hospital, could not make it as bus and train services were stopped due to the lockdown," Verma, who also has a two-year-old daughter, said.

The lady who was allegedly assaulted by the Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdumumini Danga, has spoken to the public on the incident.

In a video which was captured by IgbereTV, Oyeniyi accused the commissioner of assaulting and raping her over a Facebook post. Oyeniyi had on March 29, 2020, made a post on her Facebook page about Danga not taking care of his sister, who is her friend.

Oyeniyi said that the post did not go down well with Danga and he allegedly ordered his boys to abduct her, beat her mercilessly, got her to apologise on video, stripped her naked in the presence of her 3 year old son, raped her, made a video of it, kept her overnight and raped her overnight.

According to IgbereTV reports, a coalition of Human Rights group has taken up the case to seek justice for Elizabeth Oyeniyi through for the help of Dorothy Njemanze Foundation.

IgbereTV learnt that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has ordered an immediate investigation into the case.

Covid-19: Kokun Foundation Gifts Cash And Food Items To People In Lagos State (Photo, Video)

IgbereTV reports that the Kokun foundation has given out cash and food gifts to people in Ajegunle, Lagos State.

The kokun Foundation known for its philanthropic works has given out scholarships, shelters, helping entrepreneur, empowering so many youths and widows, paying hospital bills for people in Nigeria.

A woman with the Twitter handle @BrittyPinon gave birth on her couch as the world faces a general lockdown, IgbereTV reports.

The woman said that it happened five days into general quarantine. On her Twitter page, she wrote: "#Day 5 In quarantine: had a baby on my couch."

She attached a picture showing medical officials as they assisted her with the delivery process.

IgbereTV reports that Enugu State has confirmed two cases of Covid-19 in the state on Friday, 27th March, 2029.

The Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi made the news was made available to IgbereTV. It reads:

"Enugu State Ministry of Health had confirmed that two patients who presented on their own tested POSITIVE for Corona Virus( COVID-19)
It is important to inform the public that the patients voluntarily contacted the Enugu State Ministry of Health on arrival from United Kingdom (UK) and requested for the COVID-19 test which came out positive. So far the Patient has remained in isolation and the Enugu State Multi sectoral Rapid Response Team has commenced contact tracing.The Enugu State Government express her gratitude to these patients who reported to the Enugu State Ministry of Health following the announcement that all returnees from overseas in the last 14 days should report for evaluation. IgbereTV reports that a traditional ruler in Anambra State, HRH Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu of Ojoto, in Idemili South LGA (Eze Oranyelu 1 na Eze Ojoto 111) led a community task force on Friday morning, 27th March 2020 to shut down a burial ceremony at Akabor Ojoto that is in disobedience to the state government’s directives for the fight against Coronavirus.

The Nasarawa Government has said that all the five suspected cases of COVID-19 being isolated at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi, tested negative to the virus, IgbereTV reports.

Ahmed Yahaya, State Commissioner for Health, disclosed this at press briefing on Saturday, following and emergency stakeholders meeting at the Government House, Lafia.

According to the Commissioner, the results from specimen taken from the five suspected cases for test at the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Abuja, all came back negative.

Yahaya said that the five persons were still undergoing some clinical processes and would soon be discharged from the isolation centre.

He further stated that the government is working assiduously by providing all that is needed to curb the spread of the virus in the state.

Men of the Lagos Environmental Protection Agency LASEPA, yesterday sealed off the venue of a party in the state.

According to IgbereTV reports, LASEPA got intel that over 500 persons were expected at the party and acted swiftly.

In a bid to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a recent media chat, announced the ban on public gathering of more than 50 persons in the state, However, in a publication released by the state Ministry of Information and Strategy, the state government said the approved number for social gatherings has been reduced to 20 persons.

As guests at the party would be more than the approved figure by the government, LASEPA officials moved into the venue and sealed it off.

LASEPA officials also sealed off Regency and Imperial hall for failing to comply to the initial ban on social gathering above 50 persons in the state.

Anambra State Ministry of Transport Begins Enforcement of Anambra Colour on Commercial Buses.

The Anambra State Ministry of Transport led by the Commissioner, Dr. Christian Mmadubuko has commenced enforcement of Anambra colour on intra-states commercial buses plying various routes across the State.

According to Dr. Mmadubbuko, the intra-states buses have been given enough time to paint their buses red and black, which is Anambra colour in order for them to be easily identified, documented as well as ensure that commercial buses are not used for criminal activities.

The Commissioner further said that the ministry will continue to sanitize the transport sector to be at per with international standard, which is the desire of the Obiano administration.

Pupils Print Banners To Contest For Head Boy, Head Girl (Photos)

IgbereTV reports that pupils of Beautiful Beginning Academy located in Abuja were allowed by the school management to run a media-based campaign which is similar to that being organized by Student Union Government bodies (SUG) in higher institutions.
