IgbereTV reports that a man known as Mr. Ossy from Aguleri in Anambra State Nigeria committed suicide by hanging himself on a Mango tree after sponsoring one Miss Melisa Nnaji from Enugu State to the University level at Institute of Management Technology (IMT) with the promise of getting married to her after graduation.

Regrettably, the man couldn't stand the shock when he received an invitation of the girl's marriage coming up 18th of March 2020 through one of his best friend called Nnadozie, Which led him to commit suicide.

IgbereTV reports that Nigeria’s startup airline, Green Africa Airways is reportedly “close to signing a deal” with Airbus for 100 aircraft.

The company previously planned to acquire Boeing’s controversial 737 Max.

It would be recalled that in December 2018, Boeing Green Africa announced it had reached deal with Boeing an agreement with the Startup.

The Lagos-based Green Africa Airways announced a commitment for up to 100 737 MAX 8 aircraft, evenly split into 50 firm aircraft and 50 options, as the airline gears up to begin commercial operations.

The total deal carries a list-price of $11.7 billion, the largest aircraft agreement from Africa, and will be reflected on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website once finalised. It reported in December 2018.

The deal could be announced soon worsening the crisis faced by Boeing after two fatal crashes from its 737 Max Fleet.

Green Africa Airways will buy Airbus A220 planes, which seat about 130 passengers.

Babawande Afolabi, Green Africa Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Green Africa Airways said in 2018 that the company’s “long-held dream of building a world-class airline that will unlock a new realm of positive possibilities for millions of customers.”

Afolabi is a former investment banker with Morgan Stanley where he worked for about two years.

Green Africa Airways has allegedly received its Air Transport License (ATL) from the Nigerian Government and is anchored by a group of senior industry leaders led by Tom Horton, former Chairman and CEO of American Airlines, William Shaw, Founder and former CEO of VivaColombia and Virasb Vahidi, former CCO of American Airlines.

According to IgbereTV reports, the airline’s strategy is to first develop the Nigerian market and then ‘build a strong Pan African network.’

It would be recalled that in January last year, the startup announced Gbenga Oyebode was joining its founding board of directors.

The company in May 2018 also announced the appointment of Caribbean Airlines VP-operations Jag Singh as COO and former JetBlue Airways VP-flight operations, Bart Roberts, as safety review board chairman.

A visit to Green Airways website indicates the company is still in its startup phase with no clear indication of when it starts to commence operations.

The airline in July obtained Series A financing from several private equity investors led by Kuramo Capital Management.

Kanu’s parents, HRH Eze Israel Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Sally Kanu who died last year were laid to rest on Friday in their royal compound in Afaraukwu community, Abia State.

IgbereTV, however, observed that the IPOB leader was absent during the burial ceremony of his parents.

Kanu was last seen in Nigeria on September 10, 2017 after some soldiers invaded his residence in Afaraukwu community in Abia State.

Despite the heat and argument generated from the planning of Nnamdi Kanu's Parents' burial, the burial still went on peacefully and Nnamdi Kanu's Parents were finally laid to rest at Kanu's family compound in Afara Ukwu Ibeku Community, Umuahia in Abia State on 14th February, 2020.

Tension In Bayelsa State

Some angry youths of the APC were seen setting Bonfire on Thursday in order to block major roads in Bayelsa State to protest against the removal of Mr. David Lyon from the governorship position of the state and also disrupt the upcoming swearing-in ceremony of the PDP candidate of the election.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court sacked Governor Elect of Bayelsa State, Mr David Lyon of the APC, barely 24 hours to his inauguration and declared Diri Duoye of the PDP winner of the election.

The swearing-in ceremony of Diri Duoye of the PDP is expected to hold on Friday, 14th February 2020.

Recall that earlier in the week, some angry PDP youth blocked the convoy of outgoing Governor Dickson of the PDP, blaming him for 'killing' PDP in Bayelsa State.

Let it be known that Abia State Police under the command of Ene Okon, in collaboration with DSS, have proceeded to remove two CCTV cameras installed in and around my hometown to pre-empt and record any terror attack by the Nigerian Army & Police as was the case in September 2017.

The entire civilised world must ask the regime in Aso Rock and Abia State Police Commissioner Mr Ene Okon why they are destroying CCTV cameras on private properties in my village if they have no nothing to hide. So far they succeeded in destroying two cameras, but I wish to assure them there are 36 other well concealed cameras recording and relaying in real time their activities in and around my home.

Before newspaper editors and journalists in Nigeria start reporting their usual 'clash between security forces and IPOB', when in actual fact its the Nigeria government behaving childishly and recklessly, let it be known that Nigerian army and police are in Afaraukwu right now actively looking for trouble and seeking to provoke a peace loving and law abidding people.

It is the responsibility of Her Britannic Majesty's government through the British High Commissioner in Abuja to call the Fulani controlled murderous Nigerian army and police to order. They have started in their usual provocative manner, let no one say they were not warned.

Enugu State on Thursday recorded its first case of Lassa Fever disease.

According to IgbereTV reports, the Chief Medical Director of University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla , Enugu State, Dr. Obinna Onodugo made this known in a statement issued to the general public. He said the victim who was brought to the hospital died at the Accident/Emergency Department of the hospital.

He urged all Enugu residents to exercise greater health consciousness at this time.

IgbereTV reports that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State Chapter, on Friday, honoured Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi with an award of excellence in recognition of his unrelenting efforts in entrenching peace and good governance in the state.

Enugu State CAN presented the award to Gov. Ugwuanyi, when its leadership from the state and the 17 local government areas, led by the State Chairman, Rt. Rev. Christian C. Obiefuna, paid a courtesy call on the governor at the Government House, Enugu.

Presenting the award, Obiefuna who described Gov. Ugwuanyi as an exceptional, grassroots-oriented, humble, humane, peaceful and generous leader, said: “You do not discriminate in your services as a leader; I am proud of you and God shall continue to provide and uplift you”.

The cleric told Gov. Ugwuanyi that the Christian body is delighted that “you paid the 13th month salary; you have continually kept awake and deployed all resources for security and peace in Enugu State; you pay workers’ salary as and when due; you broker peace among several communities/organizations who have one conflict or the other.

“Our church leaders and members are being honoured and respected; we do ply different roads which you have constructed in all the zones in Enugu State; you have approved the payment of N30,000 Minimum Wage from February this year; there is visible harmony among all tiers and branches of government in Enugu State; you made Enugu State a peaceful and united family, among others. These are worthy of commendation”.

The state chapter of CAN disclosed that the award was also in appreciation of the governor’s “resilience, sleepless nights and uncompromising decision to provide security in Enugu State”, adding that “because you have timely deployed unprecedented human and material resources to protect lives and property in Enugu State, Enugu is the safest place to live, courtesy of your commitment”.

Also speaking on why CAN honoured Gov. Ugwuanyi, the State Legal Adviser, Barr. Onuora Okeke, stated that the body is impressed that Enugu State is the most peaceful and secure state in the South East zone because of the governor’s capacity as a peace-loving and security-conscious leader.

Barr. Okeke pointed out that the outstanding efforts the governor deployed to tackle the security challenges in the state, such as the establishment of the Forest Guards, purchase of security patrol vehicles, visit to thick forests, during the day and at night, which the kidnappers and other criminal elements used as hideouts, among others, were eloquent testimonies to his firm commitment to the safety, security and wellbeing of the people of the state.

“We are very happy that this award is given to you, not on grounds of politics. It is given to you because we know your worth and what you have done for this state”, he said.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi appreciated God for the honour and thanked the state chapter of CAN for recognizing the modest achievements of his administration, in spite of the nation’s security and economic challenges.

The governor, who stated that his greatest support comes from the church, noted that the success his administration has achieved, in spite of the nation’s economic challenges, was a product of the prayers of the church and urged them to continue to pray for him and the state.

Other religious leaders at the event, include the State Vice-Chairman of CAN, Rev. Fr. Dr. Benjamin Eze, the Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Enugu State, Bishop Dr. Godwin Madu, Head of Blocs, CAN, Bishop Obi Onubogu, representative of the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Donatus Onuigbo and representatives of other Blocs of CAN in the state, the Secretary of CAN, Apostle Joseph Ajujungwa, among others.

Gov. Ugwuanyi Hands Over 5 Innoson Motors Fire Fighting Trucks To State Fire Service (Photos)

IgbereTV reports that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Thursday, handed over five newly procured Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) fire fighting trucks to the state fire service, for the five newly constructed fire service stations across the three senatorial districts of the state, to enhance their efficiency and effective response to emergencies.

The strategic event, also witnessed the passing-out parade of 62 men and officers of the state fire service, who were recruited and trained by the state government.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who was represented at the colourful event by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, reiterated his administration's commitment to the safety and security of lives and property in the state, adding that the state government will continue to intervene and collaborate with the fire fighting body in this regard, especially during this dry season.

The governor noted that such collaboration/precautionary measures his administration adopted before the dry season, aborted the fire incident at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, commending the State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa and his men for their doggedness, professionalism and diligent service to the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, who confirmed to newsmen that the state government has handed over the five fire fighting trucks to the state fire service, stressed that the commitment of Gov. Ugwuanyi's administration to the safety and wellbeing of the people of the state is sacrosanct, as has been demonstrated in so many ways.

The State Chief Fire Officer, in his address, expressed delight that he is on the saddle "at this time Enugu State Fire Service has been transformed from a moribund department to an effective, efficient, vibrant and responsive department through the unwavering support of the present administration led by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi".

According to him, "Enugu State Fire Service has seen massive improvement through this administration of which some of the areas include, building and furnishing of five new ultra modern fire stations across the three senatorial zones of the state, increased hazard allowance for fire service personnel from N200 to N5000, which is among the highest in the country, provision of fire fighter suits and service uniforms for all the staff regularly, provision of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other fire fighting aids for protection and safety of the state fire fighters.

"Constant supply and availability of chemicals used for fighting all types of fires, promoting our drive in creating public awareness on fire safety and prevention, recruitment of 11 drivers in 2016 and 51able bodied men into the job in 2019, capacity building through personnel training including international trainings and procurement of fire appliances and equipment vehicles, including the five new fire fighting trucks, which will be handed over to us today".
