Health › Opinion: Men And Sudden Death by eddie7(op): 11:54am On Apr 14, 2023
Men and Sudden Death

Dr Uwuma Precious wrote,

All the patients I have seen brought in dead because they "just slumped" have always been men. The past 2 months alone have produced 4 of such cases. All men.

First was in when the cash scarcity had folks queuing for long in malls, etc. A middle aged man slumped in a queue and died. The latest, the 4th was just this past weekend when I got to work and found a crowd at the emergency with a man lying on the floor, dead. The story was that he got out of the mall, the bagged items were beside his beside his corpse, and while buying bananas nearby, slumped and was rushed to our facility where doctor on duty pronounced him dead.

Nobody in the crowd said they knew him. But somehow they had accessed his phone and informed his wife who arrived about an hour later with a 6 year old and another 2 year she backed and started wailing and praying and begging God to bring him back alive because she does not know what to do with the kids or her life. For hours she was crying, hitting the deadman's chest, begging the nurses to "give him something. He cannot die! He wasn't sick! He cannot die! He wasn't sick!"

That is always the case, these men were never "sick." And when relatives arrive, they come with loud prayers and crying, begging God to do somethin. The fact that the dead man was "healthy" the time he left home creates this painful confusion and unbelief in their hearts.

Yesterday an about-to-wed couple arrived and requested for a church-ordered set of investigations, but as it is with our facility the nurses had their vitals checked on first contact and I saw the man's blood pressure was very high. I wrote out the tests for the wife-to-be and when it got to his turn, began a series of questions and counsel. He was obviously irritated. At some point he blotted out that he was there to do a church-ordered test for his coming marriage and saw no reason for the "long talk." I insisted and after we agreed that he should as a matter of urgency commence antihypertensives immediately, this is after he rejected a free 3hr bed rest, he told me, matter of factly that he wasn't going to take any BP drugs.

His reasons were as deadly as the blood pressure I just reconfirmed. He is not hypersensitive, he said. His parents never were and never used those medicines. They were long dead, he said, he cannot say the causes of death, but it was never hypertension, he insisted. At some point the fiancé asked if he was going to take the drug for life, "because I hear that if someone uses BP medicine it is for life."

The problem, as it is with many persons, was that they somehow held this opinion that there is some kind of stigma attached to the use of BP medication. I have seen several instances where patients blatantly refused antihypertensives based on this assumed stigma. Someone tells you, "I no get symptoms of high BP" and when you ask them what the expected symptoms are they'll say, "headache" and when you ask about the headache they complained about the other time you saw them they will say it's was "malaria and typhoid and as I just treat am, the headache too go. This una BP thing no dey correct. One chemist near my house use the electronic one check am and him say e dey normal. But even if e high now, na because I dey think too much these days."

These are dangerously fallacious assumptions.

By the time "high BP" gives you "symptoms" it has already started causing irreversible damages. What you will get next will either be a stroke or a heart attack and you might not come out of either alive or well again. Your family will suffer. Imagine a wife doing chores by 8PM only to receive a call to come to a hospital because the husband that left the house healthy had died. Just like that. It is not something anyone should alllow another go through. I have seen it many times and in no single occasion did the pain seem less. It breaks you down completely and you are not even family.

There is absolutely no stigma attached to taking antihypertensives. If your doctor says you should take, please do. Modify your diet and your lifestyle too. Don't stop your medications because the chemist owner near your house checked and said, "Oga your BP is too low, no dey take the medicine again." Confirm from your doctor.

That your parents "lived up to 99yrs and no get BP" does not grant you immunity from being hypertensive. Your world and theirs aren't the same. The diet and lifestyle are generations apart and these things determine your health in no small way.

Our health seeking behaviour do not seem to mirror our level of education at all. In fact the more educated a person the less likely they seem to follow doctors' instructions. "But doc, I checked it on Google and it says I should be drinking warm water every evening to lower my BP." Google will mislead you when it comes to your health. Your nest bet is your doctor. Where you feel unconvinced, seek a second opinion. From another doctor. Not google. And ask questions. Lots of it. These things will help save your family life-altering pains. Especially for the men.

Nairaland General › Opinion: Money Has Never Been Foremost In Yoruba Value System by eddie7(op): 1:02pm On Apr 12, 2023
In Yorubaland, money has never been foremost in Yoruba value system

In our value system money is number six (6)

What are the first five you may ask?

1. The first is làákà’yè -
The application of knowledge, wisdom & understanding... (Ogbón and ìmò òye)

2. The second is Ìwà Omolúàbí - (integrity
) Someone with integrity is a man/woman of their words.

If you have all the wealth in the world but lack integrity, you are not worth a thing. Integrity is combined with iwa, (character) which we regard as Omolúàbí.

3. The third is Akínkanjú or Akin - (Valour) .

That is why Balóguns is second-in-command to the leaders in Yoruba land.

Balóguns are people that can lead them to war.

To lead with great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle.

Yoruba people have no respect for cowards.

4. The fourth is Anísélápá tí kìíse òle - (Having a visible means of livelihood).

A person must be identified with a visible means of livelihood that guarantees a lawful income or sustenance. His or her profession or job must be open and legally approved by society, and not through cheating or forcefulness.

5. The fifth is iyi - (Honour
Yoruba people place a premium on the gait with which individuals carry themselves and public reputation.

That is why Yorùbá people usually say when you set out to look for money and you meet honour on the way then you don't need the journey anymore, because if you get the money, you will still use it to buy honour.

6. The last in the Yorùbá value system is owó tàbí orò - (Money or wealth).

If putting money ahead of the other five, then you are nobody in Yoruba land of the olden days.

Unfortunately, this is being pushed to the front burner nowadays due to the erosion of our value system.

Please feel free to share with fellow Yoruba sons and daughters

Romance › Slavery Of Men By Women: A Personal Opinion by eddie7(op): 11:24am On Apr 07, 2023
Strictly For Men - Public Disclaimer— Views Expressed here are strictly that of the writer & for weekend relaxation ONLY-

SLAVERY OF MEN BY WOMEN

German writer Esther Villar In her book *"The Manipulated Man"* that caused outrage and hostile criticism from women explains how women since the earliest times have manipulated men and turned them into their slaves, they have pretended to be the oppressed sex while in the real sense they are the oppressors. She explains how a woman manipulates a man skillfully by steps like courtship and finally marriage, hence the saying *"a man chases a woman until SHE catches him".*

In her book she explains how the man is tricked to care for the woman all his life and her offspring. He rolls the stone like Sisyphus and in turn gets rewarded by a few minutes of sexual pleasure. We can, by observing Esther Villars assertions that a man is a slave of his desires and the woman uses and has used it for thousands of years as a stick and carrot to keep the man chasing vanity and commit his life to serving her.

She goes ahead to explain the rivalry of women, how each woman feels the powerful urge and need to own a male for herself. Like a slave owner she detests any move the man would make to offer his services to another woman. She uses all means to keep the man to herself and her offspring alone.

Esther Villar's sentiments are captured by Nigerian Poet, critic and writer, Chinweizu Ibekwe in his book, *"The Anatomy of Female Power"*(AFP) and Will Farrel's, *"The Predatory Female*. They all push the theory that all societies are matriarchal and not patriarchal as we are pushed and forced to believe. Matriarchy has ruled not through brawn but wits and tricks; women feigning weakness to be protected etc. Thus the male becomes the most exploited sex in human history,(in wars the man is always ready to die for the woman; he has been trained to do that).

Chinweizu calls the idea of dating and courtship, training, like that of a horse. It is during this time that a woman having kept the man on a leash by denying him sex and getting him addicted to her by false charms, trains and breaks him to whatever she wants him to become.

The marriage celebration becomes a celebration for the woman and her friends, and they all congratulate her for having succeeded in getting herself a slave. A man on that wedding day waves goodbye to his independence and his coalition of males and commits himself to a Sisyphean life, rolling the stone, an act he cannot abandon having society and the government checking on him and always ready to jail, shame or exile him for absconding his duties.
*Thus the government and society helps the woman in keeping her slave in check.*

Chinweizu gives a narration of how women are trained by older matriarchs to tame men. He explains how a man is trained to rely on women by his own mother. A man is shamed for cooking for himself and other domestic chores by his own mother who is an agent of the global matriarchal rule.

By getting the man to hate domestic works and having it enforced by culture which warns men against going into the kitchen, doing laundry etc., the mother trains his son for the woman who will captivate him and when the time comes she takes hold of the man's stomach and by getting the man addicted to her body she holds him by the two, in bed and in the kitchen. With those two weapons she manipulates the man and turns him into her plaything.

In the *"Myth of the Male Power"*, Esther Villar's *" A Man's Right to the Other Woman"*; *"The Polygamous Sex"*, the authors of those books challenge the narrative that men oppress women, and by detailed research across African,Western and Eastern both in ancient and modern societies, the authors unravel the hidden power of the ruthless matriarchal power that rules the world.

*Presidents, Emperors and Kings are all puppets of the matriarchy forces that rule the World by pulling the strings from behind the curtains.*

Man, Take it or Leave it!

How Tinubu won presidential election – American Observer

Johnnie Carson says Bola Tinubu has three things that his opponents did not have going to the presidential election

An American diplomat and a foreign observer in the 2023 general elections, Johnnie Carson, says three factors were responsible for the victory of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Mr Carson, an Executive Officer of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), spoke in Washington DC when the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, paid an official visit to the institute to engage on the concluded elections.

The diplomat said he co-led National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI), International Election Observation Mission to Nigeria during the elections.

According to him, Mr Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, undoubtedly won the polls and will be sworn-in come May 29, except something happens dramatically with the court.

“Do you know why he won, he got the money, he had the best national organisation that worked for him and the ground game,’’ he said.

Mr Carson emphasised that for a candidate to win an election in Nigeria, like a lot of democracy in the globe, the three things, including substantial and significant financial resources were needed.

Others, according to him, are a national working organisation and a grassroots acceptance.

He said while Mr Tinubu had all the three criteria in his kitty during the polls, the other major contenders did not have all.

Speaking specifically on the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Carson said, “on the part of Mr Peter Obi, he did not have the ground game and a national organisation.

“Obi is, however, very popular, particularly among the young, educated, urban and sophisticated,’’ he said.

Mr Carson said the presidential election was one of the most competitive polls in Nigeria and in Africa.

He, however, observed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) needed to up its game.

“Nigeria deserves the very best electoral process. To me, the problem is not with Tinubu and the other candidates,’’ he said.

Mr Carson hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment in delivering a free and fair election for Nigeria.

Dangote adbanner 728x90_2 (1)
He said the president “is a man of outstanding integrity’’ and he demonstrated the attribute in the past elections.

On his part, the minister said considering where INEC was coming from and where it were today, there were massive improvements in the conduct of the 2023 polls.

ⓘ
Conceding that there was room for improvements, the minister said the introduction of a new technology Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) by INEC underpinned the credibility of the elections.

According to him, BVAS cut out fraudulent votes, ghost voters and multiple votes.

Mr Mohammed said the election was conducted against the backdrop of fuel shortage, mounting insecurity and poorly timed cash swap policy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister also had engagements with the Council on Foreign Relations, a well versed think-tank on African affairs and foreign relations chaired by a Nigerian, Ebenezer Obadare.

He was also at the Reuters News Agency; The Politico, an international political newspaper, and Zenger News, a channel that publishes its contents on Forbes.

During his respective interactions with the Think-tanks and international media, the minister “presented the facts of the just concluded polls as against skewed narratives of the opposition and naysayers”.

NAN reports that the interactions also delved into economy and foreign affairs.

At Reuters, the Agency’s recent investigation of alleged secret programmes of coerced abortion of women and girls freed from insurgents’ captivity were discussed.

Title : The devil is a thief
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10"
Breakfast : The devil and his cohort of darkness have a strategy against the saints. Their nature is to steal, kill, and destroy; and the strategy they live by is to steal, kill, and destroy Christians and people who have something good to offer humanity. The devil is responsible for putting all manner of courses in schools to misdirect Christians and people thereby stealing their dreams; this accounts for all sorts of unemployment in the society. The devil is a murderer and if he does not succeed he tries to kill your dream, vision, and aspiration. He has destroyed many lives through sicknesses, diseases, death, drugs etc. Jesus Christ came to give life to our dreams, visions, aspirations and make our life more meaningful. When Jesus comes into your life your life will never remain the same; He gives you the alertness and discernment from his Word to recognize the devil and his lies. Dear beloved, choose to follow Jesus Christ so that you can fulfill your divine destiny.

NDLEA commander in police net over death of married woman.

March 26, 2023.

The Zonal Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Minna, Niger State, identified as Femi is currently in the custody of the State Police Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, over alleged culpable homicide.

It was gathered that Femi is being suspected of complicity over the death of a married woman, Mrs Christiana Williams at his residence on Saturday afternoon situated along Bay clinic road, Minna opposite old B.Y stores

The woman who was said to be asthmatic had visited the house of the NDLEA zonal commander on the pretence to sell underwears where they had sexual intercourse and thereafter, developed a crisis and slumped.

The suspect, DAILY POST learnt rushed the deceased to Bay Clinic along Bay Clinic road Minna yesterday at 2pm and the death was confirmed by the doctors upon arrival before entering the hospital.

However, when the hospital suspected foul moves, our Correspondent gathered, the hospital quickly contacted the Police at Tudun-Wada Police Station, following claims by the NDLEA zonal commander that the lady came to his house to supply underwear to him, and that she suddenly went into an asthmatic crisis while he rushed out to get an inhaler for her.

But, it was gathered that the husband, Williams, who was shocked and sad over the incident claimed his wife who was asthmatic does not use an inhaler but had some prescription drugs she used during the crisis to calm the situation.

Consequently, the suspect was said to have been arrested by the Tundun-Wada police command and later transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for investigation.

A reliable source around the hospital further told our Correspondent that, “the suspect brought the dead woman naked but went back home and returned with her pants, brassiere, and other clothing materials and wore them on her”.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident.

He said the matter is currently under investigation.

PRESS RELEASE

DSS ALERTS OF PLANNED VIOLENT ACTION; WARNS AGAINST DESPERATION TO IGNITE VIOLENCE IN
THE COUNTRY

The Department of State Service (DSS), again, alerts the public of plans to violently disrupt peace in the country. The Service hereby warns those desperate to cause a breakdown of law and order to desist from that. It would be recalled that the Service had earlier advised political players to abide by the rules of engagement as well as approach the courts for redress, if and where there are suspicions of infractions on extant electoral laws. It is evident that some aggrieved politicians are already taking advantage of this legal process. This, without doubt, is the beauty of democracy. It is strongly believed that this approach enhances peace and security. All and sundry should cherish it.

Be that as it may, the DSS will not tolerate a situation where persons and/or groups take laws into their hands and champion anarchy. Those peddling fake news, hate speech and all forms of false narratives as basis to ignite violence or pit the people against the present or incoming administrations, at the Federal, State and Parliamentary levels, should stop forthwith. Those inciting violence have nothing to gain as doing so will not only consume them but also the innocent. It is otherwise disturbing to see respected personalities use their platforms to mislead or incite citizens. This, to say the least, does not augur well for peaceful coexistence and general order.

Therefore, the Service will continue to take necessary measures to checkmate these elements who do not wish the country well. This is to ensure that the conducive environment is provided for citizens and residents to pursue their legitimate businesses. A stitch in time, they say, saves nine. Let all be guided.
