Nairaland General › 7 Things I Learned When I Gave Up Alcohol by eddie7(op): 3:43pm On Jan 01, 2022
By Now to Love December 31, 2021

Thinking about giving up the sweet stuff? We mean alcohol, of course. If you’re thinking of quitting drinking or even just taking a break, check out the list below of things I learned about myself when I gave up drinking alcohol.

1. I can still have a social life.
Having grown up in a culture where socializing revolves around alcohol, I was worried that going alcohol free would force me to become a hermit, and it was a valid concern. As a new non-drinker stepping into a pub or bar is challenging — habits are powerful and hard to break. I opted to stay at home away from temptation.Eventually I had to bite the bullet and venture out for a friend’s birthday. And despite drinking lime and soda all night, I had a really great time. I was just like the old me; I joined in, I laughed, I danced. But unlike the old me, I could still remember it all the next day.

2. Hangovers are awful.

Hangovers are awful. Headaches, nausea, dehydration, poor sleep: we know the feeling all too well, and yet they are entirely self-inflicted. We know that crossing the line between a couple of drinks and finishing the bottle will only lead to pain. But we do it to ourselves again and again and again. There are some things about drinking that I miss (like that first sip of beer on a hot afternoon), but I don’t miss hangovers.

3. . People are generally supportive.

On the whole, my friends and family have been really supportive of my decision to give up booze. I think in the beginning they assumed that it was just a bit of a phase and that I’d soon fall off the wagon and everything would return to normal. But despite persisting, my friends have not disowned me. I still get invited out and no one rolls their eyes when I order a mocktail.

4. But sometimes they’re not.

Having said that, there have been a few times when I have felt a need to justify my decision to quit booze. It’s as if me saying “I’m not drinking wine anymore” is the same as saying “I am judging you because you drink.” Some friends have been extremely defensive of their own drinking habits — but there is no need to be. I am not judging anyone. My choice not to drink is about me, and only me.

5. Drunk people can be really boring (sorry).

While I still love going out with my friends, I have learned when to call it a night. There are some big warning signs; the people drinking will get louder; sometimes they will start to slur their words. Sometimes an ordinary topic can become heated. But then it happens. The people doing the drinking suddenly become incredibly boring. Old stories are re-hashed, points are labored over, and the tangents have tangents of their own. This is my cue to become boring too — by heading home to my bed.

6. Alcohol was not my friend.

I used to really enjoy a glass of wine (or three) after a long day of work and parenting. The ritual of filling my glass was almost therapeutic. But despite it’s relaxing qualities, wine wasn’t my friend. I couldn’t see it at the time, but my moderate drinking habit was actually sabotaging nearly every area of my life.Giving up alcohol allowed me to significantly change my lifestyle. Healthy eating and exercise became the norm. I lost weight, I got fit, and I feel great, but there is more to it than that. I don’t argue with my husband anymore, and I’m a better mom.

7. Tea is a really great drink.

I’ve always been a tea drinker. But now that I am a non-drinker, I have a new appreciation for tea. Tea is way better than booze.

lipsrsealed ah ah. We've already said CAF is gonna use November rankings for the qualifiers na
The Super Eagles will find out their opponents in the last qualification round for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar next year after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a new date for the play-off draws.

The draw to pair the last ten teams involved in the final round of qualification for the 2022 World Cup was initially scheduled for 18 December 2021.

But CAF now says the draws will hold on 26 January 2022 following a decision at the ongoing Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt.

According to CAF, the January 2022 FIFA rankings will be used to seed the teams for the draw.

Africa’s top five ranked teams at the time of the draw will be seeded and paired against the other five unseeded countries. Aggregate winners of the home-and-away ties pick the five tickets on offer for Qatar 2022.

Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, DR Congo, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Mali booked their places in the play-offs after the group stages of the qualifications.

Nigeria is currently ranked number five in Africa with Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco rounding off the top five.

STUDENT OF BAPTIST HIGH SCHOOL NYANAMA COMMITS SUICIDE

16 year old child has committed suicide on his mother's birthday as a birthday gift to his mother. He left a letter saying;

"On today's special day, I want you to be the happiest ever. Everyday you used to say that happiness left your life the day I was born.

You told me dad left because of me . So today, I want to change things. I want you to be very happy and live as if I never existed.

You told me you'd never look at me with love but I always loved you and admire you as the best mom on earth. I hope one day you will think of me, I hope in heaven you will finally hold me and kiss me.

The best gift I could give you is leaving your life as you've always told me you wished I was never born. I love you mom. Happy birthday".

Sports › Nigeria: Rohr Stays, As Minister Muscles NFF To Submission by eddie7(op): 5:07pm On Dec 13, 2021

The much-orchestrated sacking of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr by the Nigeria Football Federation has turned out to be a huge joke after all. The Franco-German coach is staying put as Super Eagles coach and will be in the dugout when Nigeria will be campaigning in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, beginning next month in Cameroon. He might stay, even beyond the Afcon.

Sports Vanguard gathered that Rohr's continuous reign was made possible by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare who, in his meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, persuaded them to sheath their sword and allow the coach to continue. The minister advanced his reasons which, according to our source, sounded logical and convincing.

Quoting the minister, our source said, "he(the Minister) told the NFF that from experience, sacking of coaches close to tournaments had never worked for Nigeria. It had always backfired," our source said

Sports Vanguard can recall that in 1998, Phillipe Troussier qualified Nigeria for the France '98 World Cup, he was sacked. Reason was simply that he was not rated a world class coach and that Nigeria needed one to go to the World Cup. Just before the tournament, Bora Milutinovic was engaged. Bora's campaign in France was disappointing as Nigeria had the talents to perform better than their second round outing. .

The same step was taken before Korea/Japan after Ahmadu Shaibu qualified the country for the World Cup, he was sacked and replaced with Adeboye Onigbinde. Again, Nigeria failed in 2002 Korea/Japan.

Just before the 2010 World Cup, hosted in Africa for the first time, Lars Lagarback was called in to replace Amodu Shaibu. Nigeria exited early in the tournament as well. It has never been rosy. These were some of the arguments the minister advanced at his meeting with the NFF.

"In addition, the minister counseled that, what the NFF should do, to assist Rohr and the team, is to rejig the technical crew, bring in one or two fresh heads with Rohr as the head," our usually reliable source said.

With this mentality, you might end up in prison if you're not careful with life. Stop justifying what's wrong because others are doing it!
Let him without sin first throw the first stone. Having said that, tell me that your are a saint & stainless in our present day Nigeria.

Stop being hypothetical.

Sounding so ignorant.
Quackery and fakery*** is dominant and present everywhere & in every sector, even the judge that will try the accused has a skeleton in his cupboard...age falsification, academic decadence...the list is endless and I'm pretty sure you're guilty of one. Not mentioning exam malpractice and other vices. NONE IS CLEAN

Would you have allowed a quack doctor to perform a surgery on you?
It's not my portion to be at the hospital or did you see doctor in my fake list?
