If not for any other thing, construction work has begun on the Lagos-Ore-Benin road. Onitsha-owerri has been completed. Afikpo- Okigwe has been awarded.A friend of mine told me that He passed thru Zaria-Gusau-Funtua and then keffi-Akwanga-lafia that construction work is ongoiing by stalini & co. At the same time, all the major airports in Nigeria are being renovated. Even Enugu airport was completely shut down and is under serious rehabilitation. In less than 1yr, Gej set up 9 universities across the country. He equally established 2 additional campuses of Nigerian law school. He has built and commissioned the Almajiri school system. He has also increased funding of Nigerian universities and upgraded the retirement age of university lecturers to 70yrs. In transportation, GEJ has succeeded in reforming the ports. Lagos ports are now billed to operate 24 hours. The number of law enforcement agencies @ d ports have also been reduced from about 15 to 6. It's now easier and faster to clear goods at the wharf. The light rail projects are under construction. The Abuja light rail construction appears to be nearing completion and a drive through central area to Garki will clear any doubts. The Govt has initiated its cassava bread campaign which is intended to encourage local production and consumption of cassava bread so as to discourage importation of wheat as it kills our economy. The govt has also eliminated the cartel that feeds fat on distributing fertilizer for farmers. Fertilizers can now easily be accessed by farmers in the open market. Within a year, Gej has completed the construction of the Mambilla and Zungeru power stations and it's expected to add about 2000 megawatts to the national grid. He is vigorously pursuing his power sector reforms agenda which includes the privatization of PHCN and the new cost reflective electricity tariffs. Gej increased minimum wage to N 18, 000 . NYSC members now even earn higher

lacidi: Well, if there were 2 lists, then I apologise if I erronously thought there was only 1. However, after seing Lawan on TV arguing that Zenon be removed from the list, i actually assumed that they were so removed. I have however decided to remove emotions from these arguments and simply stick to facts. Right now the facts are not in support of the committe and so I will not allow myself any high hopes that these oil marketers will be brought to book.

Just listen to your attack on Sagay. What he said is very right within the Nigerian legal code. And FYI entrapment is not accepted all over the world as you ignorantly posted. In The Netherlands, it's not allowed. The defendant would be set free immediately the police admit a trap was set for him. YOU CANNOT OFFER COCAINE TO A JUNKIE AND THEN ARREST HIM FOR USING DRUGS.
Sagay is right. In the USA, you can do that, but in most countries in Central Europe is forbidden. You obviuosly live in some shithole in the US,

Chinom: Well, i could'nt be bothered to read the post because i've read a lot about the case on Nigerian National dailies. It still boils down to a case of "he said, she said". His words against his. Whether Farouk removed his name, added it back and removed it again and so fort...is TOTALLY irrelevant. Simple minded folks like you cannot see the bigger picture. The point is that Otedola admitted to offering bribe, Farouk admitted to accepting it. But he still indicted Otedola. That i tell you, my friend, is unprecedented in Nigeria. A country where a policeman will collect just N20,000 to cover a murder case. You and your simple minded supporters ought to hide your heads in shame for not grasping my comment. You could not comprehend my point thereby forcing me to explain. READ BETWEEN THE LINES.

Jamesqu: Otedola guilty of entrapment — Sagay

Reacting to the allegation of $620,000 bribery involving the managing director of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, Mr. Femi Otedola, against the chairman of the House committee that investigated the fuel subsidy regime, Hon. Farouk Lawan, a foremost constitutional lawyer, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has said that Otedola was guilty of entrapment.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP over the phone, Prof. Sagay said entrapment is an immoral way of trapping someone with criminal tendencies to commit the suspected crime. “It is a plan to trap someone into a criminal situation. If a person is suspected to be a drug dealer, a policeman can pose as a drug addict. And when the drug dealer comes to sell the drug, he will be arrested. The problem with entrapment is that the crime does not occur naturally. If one is successfully entrapped, it is an immoral way of establishing someone’s criminal tendencies,” he said.

On whether Otedola was guilty of entrapment, Sagay simply replied, “That is what it could mean.”

Sagay expressed regret over the allegation preferred against Lawan, saying he had always seen the four-time House of Representatives member as the face of integrity and transparency in the National assembly. “It is a major tragedy for this country. If it is true, then, it will leave a major vacuum in the National Assembly,” he stated.

He further called on all Nigerians and the civil society organisations to resist what he called an attempt by the cabal indicted in the report to cast a slur on the integrity of the committee that produced the report.

Chinom: If Farouk Lawam collected $620 from Otedola and STILL indicted him in his report, he DESERVES a statue at Eagle square. That is very unNigerian. I do not doubt him when he says that he reported the bribery by Otedola to the police. The fact that he still indicted Otedola, regardless, is a heroic act in the Nigerian context.
The Govt must carry out the recommendations asap. A very important aspect of the whole investigation is that Otedola OFFERED the bribe.
What Farouk did is what applies in the Western world. He had to collect the money as evidence, otherwise Otedola will deny it later.
