He arrested the then governor of Edo state, Prof Ambrose Alli and locked him away. Only to release him later when the guy was very sick. The guy did not eat 1 kobo of government money and remains one of the best governors Edo state has ever had till date. You have just exposed yourself as either someone who do not read posts before commenting or a semi-illiterate who did not pass comprehension in his WAEC English language exam.

My post was a response to someone who accused Iweala and GEJ as responsible for the @op's post and he said

"i am happy okonjo iweala did not make it to the world bank position otherwise, the whole world would have ended up been like nigeria."

Then I reminded him Iweala had worked there before and the world did not crumble. So what was your point about? And where did I misinform anyone there? And which part of my statement is a lie? You dont sound intelligent at all. You sound like an Agbero!

I'll say these few stuff about tithing:

1. Tithing was never mentioned in the new testament as a command or instruction. Giving was however mentioned. In Hebrews where tithing was mentioned, the topic was not about tithing but about priesthood and the tithing was only mentioned to explain the priesthood of Jesus as being after the order of Melchizedek. You cannot use that as a basis to ask for tithe.

2. Jesus mentioned tithing about twice but interestingly He didn't mention it in a positive light. In one instance, he actually scolded a man who boasted about his tithe as a way to get God's attention and praised the man who completely depended on God's mercy and grace. In another instance, he scolded the Jewish rulers for giving tithes and forgetting the weightier matters of the law. He actually called Mercy and Judgement and righteourness weightier matters of the law, relegating tithing to the background. How many preacher today will be willing to proclaim righteousness and judgement as more important than tithing when they preach?

3. If tithing was so important, how come it was never instructed by any apostle? There are a host of instructions from Peter, James, Jude to Paul, etc. But non ever instructed on tithing. How come such an "important" thing was never mentioned? Jesus never instructed on tithing. He did instruct on giving.

4. The problem with the modern day preaching on tithe is that in the new testament, THERE IS NO PREREQUISITE FOR GOD'S BLESSING. I Peter 1:3-5. If you have to give to God before he blesses you, then it is no longer grace but works. That completely goes against the new testament principles that Jesus came to establish. Preachers who go and quote Malachi 3:10 make a hoax of the message because according to new testament principles, a born again child of God cannot be cursed. It doesn't matter if he eats all his tithe, he simply cannot be cursed. HE IS BORN BLESSED AND REMAINS BLESSED. he could mess up like the prodigal son and get into a lot of mess but he cannot be cursed. Just like the prodigal son, the day he realizes himself and repents and comes back to God, he is received and begins to enjoy kingdom blessings again. It is impossible to curse a man who has the Holy Ghost!

5. Why do preachers today preach all their messages from the new testament except the message of tithing. They say the law has been abolished, just like Jesus and Paul said, but when it comes to tithing, they go to the old testament to get support for their message. It looks really insincere.

6. Another real problem I have with tithing is the concept that what you get from God is dependent on what you can give to him. This has never been God's principle for his children. God has always primarily related to man on the platform of grace because nothing you will ever give God will be worth it if not for his mercy towards man. That is why the most important thing God demands from a man is his heart! Total dedication of himself to God's service. Some argue that giving your money means you are giving your heart, but that is a big lie. There are many examples in the bible of those who gave their wealth but not their heart. Cain, Ananias are examples. In today's world, many give to impress and to be known.

Giving is important for a Christian but the compulsory giving of tithes as is being preached today is not in tandem with new testament principles.
