Are you a university staff? Moreover, I stated in my post that some of them have side hustles. Side hustles could be anything. As for cooperative, every union has a cooperative. It's not compulsory that you must be a member. For you to benefit from the survival fund, you must be member.

But come to think of it, how long do you think the survival fund will last if more and more ASUU members starts depending on it as the strike prolongs?

That's why they've cooperatives. Like I said earlier, what they will give you may not be enough but enough to mitigate the impact of the strike. Survival fund could be from 50k up depending on the institution. Mind you not every academics rely on the Survival fund. Some have side hustle. In some of cases, some of them rely on their partners (married ones) for Survival except where both couples are academics.

In case you are not aware, ASUU have what they call survival fund. It is usually given during the striking period to help mitigate the effect of the strike. After the strike, the beneficiaries are expected to pay back gradually.

No official memo from government on whether this is due to shortage of fund or activation of 'no work, no pay' for academic staff. Some non teaching staff are yet to be paid. So, what exactly is the problem?

This post was triggered by an earlier post I saw where the poster was having long talks with his friend's wife. I've been in a similar situation. I changed location and had to be separate from my family due to work. I was lonely and needed a friend. I talk with my husband regularly, but his interests are not my interests, so I find that besides household and family matters, we have little else to talk about. I found myself talking to this guy I met when I went for an official assignment. We started as friends, but we became attracted to each other. So when I travelled back to base, we started these long conversations. We're both born-again Christians and both married, so we kept to certain boundaries. I enjoyed conversing with him more than with my spouse. I became consumed with thoughts of him. He also expressed his desire and attraction towards me, but we laughed over it as jokes.

My husband noticed the conversations when I travelled home and became suspicious. He forbade me from speaking with him. He had never seen me have long talks with any friend, talkless of a male one. I informed my friend and he said no problem, he would wait till I travelled back to work base before he would continue. He later travelled to meet his family and conversation became scanty. I realized how much I was addicted to him when I couldn't talk to him as much as I wanted. He returned to base and we continued like before.

I started praying for God to help me overcome these desires. Maybe he also felt the same, because for some reasons I don't know, he reduced the frequency of calls and chats drastically. I didn't try to find out why, just thought the time-off would help me clear out immoral thoughts. But I got hurt when he acted indifferent on one occasion when I felt he should have shown more care. I asked him about it and he pretended not to understand what I was talking about. I read the writing on the wall, and decided to play along. So I said "bye. It was nice meeting you." Part of me was grateful it ended, another part was wishing I could still be with him. I love my husband and children, I cannot come and scatter my home.

He thought I was joking. I was no longer responding to his chats, and when I did, only with monosyllables. He became hurt and accused me of going silent on him. I told him he started it. He wanted me to become defensive, but the Holy Spirit whispered "keep quiet ". So I allowed him rant without saying anything. I thank God I didn't, because I would have exposed how deep my true feelings for him were.

Right now, he chats once in a while, just general "how are you". I say "fine". My feelings have healed and I thank God we didn't continue because I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from an affair if we had eventually had any physical contact. I can categorically say I'm no longer in love with him.

Zamfara Sate Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has distributed 260 cars including Cadillac to the traditional rulers in the state.

The distribution was done by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, at Government House, Gusau on Wednesday.

The Sultan expressed gratitude to Matawalle for his interest in the welfare of the traditional institution, which he said still remains the thread that holds society together.

The Federal Government has restated its threat not to pay any of its employees on strike or absent from duty post without due authorisation.

This followed the commencement of a two-week warning strike by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) today.

With the warning strike by SSANU and NASU, activities in the nation’s public universities have been fully grounded. The Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) are already on strike over Federal Government’s failure to implement agreements with them..

Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen Chris Ngige, told The Nation last night the government had decided to apply the “No-work, No Pay” policy in compliance with Section 43 of the Labour Law.

Ngige said that the actions of the unions amounted to “false leave” and a declaration of forced holidays for students. He reminded the members that the government was not “Father Xmas.”

His words: “Anybody on strike now will not be paid in consonance with Section 43.

“What they (unions) are doing is false leave; they are forcing their employers to close down some of their universities and declare holiday for students because of that.

“So if you do that, you will not be paid. Government is not Father Christmas where you are not working and you will be paid.”

SSANU and NASU had in a joint statement yesterday announced the commencement of the warning strike, saying “no concession should be given in any guise.”

General-Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, and National President of SSANU, Mohammed Ibrahim, directed the branch chairmen to ensure that the work boycott was ”comprehensive and total.”

They referred to a letter addressed to Ngige in which they accused the government of failing to respond to its demands as of the time they issued the statement.

The statement reads: “Please refer to our letter with ref. No. JAC/NS/VOL.II/192 dated 16th March 2022 addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment titled: “Re: looming industrial action and notice of warning strike.

“Having waited so long, this is to inform you that the government has not responded nor reacted to our demands as at this moment.

“In view of the nonchalant attitude of the government to our demands, this is to direct our members in all universities and Inter-university centres throughout the country to commence a two-week warning strike by midnight of Sunday, 27th March 2022, in the first instance as earlier conveyed to the Federal Government in our letter.

“Please note that the two weeks warning strike should be comprehensive and total as no concession should be given in any guise.

“Your strict compliance and adherence to this directive is mandatory for all branches of NASU and SSANU in the universities and inter-university centres.”

Some of the complaints of the unions are inconsistencies in IPPIS payment, non-payment of Earned Allowances, delay in the renegotiation of FGN/NASU and SSANU agreement, non-payment of arrears of national minimum wage and usurpation of the headship of non-teaching Units.

Others are neglect and poor funding of state universities, non-payment of retirement benefits to outgoing members, and non-constitution of visitation panels to universities.

After so many years of protest and appeal, the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has finally approved the promotion of civil servants for the year 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The news which was made public by the honourable commissioner for information and orientation, Orji Uchenna, was shared on Facebook by the Special Assistant to the governor on media and publicity, Nweze Francis.

In the announcement, he also stated that "His Excellency the Governor has also approved the payment of Pension to all Pensioners in the State with effect from 22nd March, 2022"

This approval is coming few days after the Governor alongside his deputy were dismissed by the Federal High Court over his defection to APC from PDP.
