gratiaeo:For your information, the number one bargaining chip for any successful election in any local community is security!! And the governor is the chief security officer of the state.... He has the resources to change the climate from "security" to "insecurity". When Tinubu was governor, Lagosians didn't really like him, especially his workers and they voted against him.... But he won, you know why? Any community that didn't support him, they use violence to make the too hostile for voting to take place......Datz all... The first and last time I tried to vote in lagos, it was bullet that ended the electoral process, the ballot was stuffed by the AD and votes from the polling unit was invalidated in favour of Tinubu as the area was a PDP ground then? Just pray that those governors don't pick that up from tinubu, except you are not allergic to bullets, na E you wait for polling booth when the matter ripe for where you wan vote..... |
izombie:This is the challenge I have with people, sometimes their education and sentiments proves to be a hindrance in cutting right to the issue.......... A large majority of voters in my father's and mother's village in Edo, don't know Obasanjo, Yar adua, Atiku or tinubu let alone Peter Obi..... When they vote, they don't even read, to even know what the name on the ballot paper represents.... What they know now, as of today that I am typing is broom people and Umbrella People, so when they look at the ballot paper or asking for help, all they will ask is, which one be Umbrella People or which one they broom for this paper, na that one I wan vote for ooh!!?? Are those the people that will vote for your Peter Obi? What is labour party, with all the crowd that they Laboured to gather at airport road and ring road in benin city doing to change the narrative?......that is what I am tactically asking and you talking about who I will vote for.....? Na Only my pvc wan decide who go be president!!? Even lagos state that has one of the highest numbers of educated people with states like ekiti in the South west, as at late last year here, INEC said 1.7million PVCs are at their offices uncollected.......The same challenge exists with every election that's why in the 2015 elections, the APC Party rigorously focused their campaign on pushing people to go and collect their PVCs to vote for them, why is labour party not doing that? What is labour party doing to change the narrative in favour of their candidates? The battle has many fronts you are looking at crowds gathered in the Urban areas meanwhile na rural areas, with the largely uneducated that will be the tipping point in unbalancing the scales in every election including this one. As I am talking to you, INEC has since raised alarms of cartels of locals buying up people PVCs in rural areas outright..... The rumour I have heard, and I repeat it is just a rumor, is that parties are going to remote towns and offloading PVCs from voters in areas where they know their candidates of choice aren't popular to disenfranchise them from the electoral process..... My question remains, what is labour party doing or better yet why is labour party doing nothing tangible to market their candidates against the next Presidential elections? |
God1000:Not at all Sir! But you must understand something!! The electoral battle for the office of presidency will take place at over 197,973 polling units across 774 local governments as recognised by the National assembly (forget all those LCDA's created in the south). It will take a political party, with a high number of active members, with balanced influence, reputation and financial resources across all of those ward where the 197,000 plus polling units are located to have a fighting chance.... In Edo state, Peter Obi and the Labour party have won the hearts of the Edos, they are very popular in the Urban cities and have massive support amongst the elites and the youths, but in the rural areas, all they know is "broom people" and "Umbrella People". If what I see of Labour party here is reflected across the entire country, then Obi is fighting a losing battle! Vigorous door to door or mosquito campaign is not going on to change the narrative, Peter Obi campaign poster is scarce....it is candidates that are using Obi's picture to market their own candidature that's littered across the place..... You have field campaign coordinators and deputy coordinators for local governments that don't even have PVCs, under the Labour Party here in Edo state..... As at August last year, Labour Party in Edo state didn't have a chairman, it was someone who was the acting chairman that received Obi!! You have Appointed Party Campaign coordinators for local governments that have never been to the local government in their lives and can't even speak the local dialect....... It's like a free for all, where everybody just position themselves somewhere in anticipation of when campaign funds will flow, so they can eat their own share of share of National cake via elections! They have a party here and support of the people, but Labour party here exists in name only and is just an empty shell...... If that is what exists across the country, how them wan take win election? |
As 2023 elections approach, campaigns have taken an interesting dimension....... It has been a tit for tat affair; crowd for crowd, public address for public address of different interest groups and then the debates and dodging of debates........ But what I believe most people refuse to take into consider is the following. Currently APC has 21 sitting governors, PDP has 14 (that includes the G5 integrity group of Rivers, Abia, Enugu, Oyo and Benue state, so technically PDP has just 9), APGA has one, Anambra..... Given the current dynamics, how does labour party propose to win with it candidates, popular and amiable as they are? The law demands that a winner must have the highest number of votes as well as win 2/3 of the total states on ground (which means, he must win in 24 states), otherwise the first runnerup, will do a rerun with the first position winner....... So which state is labour party expecting/projecting to win? All 36 states? That's a fantastic and audacious dream..... Tinubu's party already have 21 states under their belt, he just needs three hard working governors that will make the markup.........Atiku is just busy underestimating wike and how much some PDP stalwarts really despise the way he emerged as flagbearer, violating the silent North-South zoning dichotomy of Party Chairmanship and Presidential flagbearer. The highest thing that may happen, wike and the G5 may support Obi on the understanding that Obi will decamp back to PDP if he wins, that automatically spoil Atiku's chances and absolves wike of any past or future sin of anti-party activities....... People also forget that all it took to unseat the PDP from power in 2015 general elections was the decamping of 5 sitting governors, Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers States, that joined the APC after staging a walk out on the PDP national convention in Abuja........ A walkout, ironically that was hailed and saluted by Atiku, the current PDP Presidential flagbearer! In his own words, paying tribute to the govenors on the decamping of the 5 PDP governors in 2015, “They chose the difficult path, rather than the easy way out,” “We must be open and transparent, not like the PDP, we must avoid winner takes all, greed, arrogance, impunity and corruption, ”. If it took 5 decampee governors to turn the tide and remove a sitting president, it can definitely take 5 to take the sails out of the wind of a potential candidate like Atiku, who doesn't even have the advantage of incumbency...... And then there is Alhaji Kwankwaso of the NNPP in the North! People believe he is a pushover but refuse to appreciate that he is even more popular in the North than Atiku.........That makes him someone to think about, not necessarily as one who will win the Presidential election but will impact on the expected quota of votes a potential winner will get from the North!! So in my opinion, unpopular as it may be, devoid of any sentiments for my own kinsmen!! The election as it stand, based on the permutations and current dynamics of campaigns, the election is for the APC and tinubu to lose...... They have the Unique advantage and everything seems to be set for Tinubu to takeover from where Major General Muhammadu Buhari has stopped..... That probably explains why the tinubu campaign don't bother attending debates, nor explaining the gaffes made by Tinubu at public events.... This is my unbiased take......feel free to leave yours, without religious sentiments, tribalism, hate speech, bigotry or rancour..... |
emilo2bad:I am an Edo man, from Edo state, currently in Edo state...........I don't need to read a report to know what is on ground in Edo state!! The major challenge as expressed in reality is this, Edo state continued to maintain the legacy system of Pension until obaseki entered office..... Federal government under the Obasanjo administration, introduced the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2004 and made it mandatory for all Federal workers, which is much easier as PFA's, Pension Fund Administrators are involved in the process which not only fast tracks the process of Pension processing but payment as well. Under the CPS, your employer, which is the government in this case, pays a percentage, while a token percentage is deducted from your salary, (I cant remember the actual percentage, I believe it should be 6%, but I will call and find out by this evening). That money is debited and donated to a PFA account, that belongs to the employee. The PFA takes that money, invests it and when the employee retires, gives the retirees the appropriate amount either as lump sum or via instalments or via a lifetime investment /withdrawal system call annuity - where they keep your money on the grounds of reinvesting it and agree to pay you a specific amount so long as you are alive. Edo state didn't adopt this CPS until January 2017, under this government! And one of the drawbacks of CPS is that government is not permitted to owe, as the PFA cannot guarantee the employee is paid the appropriate Pension, if they don't meet to their contributions both from government the employer and the employee. According to PENCOM, the pension commission, that regulates the industry, only 4 states are currently up to date with remittances and that is Lagos, Edo, Benue and Kaduna...... The legacy Pension system is plagued with corruption, under hand dealings, ghost retired workers and all kinds of crap.... You have workers who can't even get paid because of inconsistencies in records and literally have to start settling people here and there to get their own money......so its a problem... Granted Oshiomole inherited some backlogs and started paying, but he had too much political baggage and hanger on's to continue.....To the point where people who retired under his administration were now added to the list of the being owed not just gratuities but Pension as well..... No be there wahala come dey now....... Obaseki had to struggle to clear Pension backlog, na gratuities backlog na E remain!! I don talk am, who wan debate is free to do so! The Obaseki Administration is not owing anybody pension regardless of the year of retirement and it is gratuities from backlogs that is the issue!! Retirees from his own end are under the CPS and are well catered for through the PFA's........ Chikena! Now take my submission to the real edo workers om ground and see if they will dispute it....... |

This anti-Edo, anti-PDP, anti-Obaseki Nairaland campaign has started again.... I have said it many times but them no born anybody to follow me debate am, I am in Edo, so I don't troll, nor speak aimlessly, I speak based on the reality on ground. The Obaseki administration isn't owing pension, what is protested here is the payment of gratuities of 2 sets of persons..... Take note, under the legacy system, gratuity is a bulk sum that is paid to retirees on retirement, this money typically is calculated as the lump payment of 5yrs-7yrs of only the basic salary inside the monthly wage, then after a year, monthly pension payment commences of typically just the basic salary or a fraction of the basic (it varies from state to state). . Now only local government retirees from 2008 and state retirees from 2012 are owed gratuities, all of which was accumulated in the wasteful Oshiomole/APC years of purposeless borrowing to settle political thugs...... But all of them are paid their pensions as at when due, all retirees that retired in the course of the Obaseki administration are owed neither Gratuities nor pensions. Nobody is owed pension in Edo, it is backlog of gratuities, of those 2 sets and government has addressed the pensioneers/protesters (as opposed to some other states that shoot their own protesters, like Lagos), and have given them timeline under which it will be cleared. In fact, the actual fear is that it should be cleared before Obaseki hands over to a new administration because they have not really had it good, in terms of prompt payment of pensions except under this administration, hence the protest for quick action...... So what is now the wahala...... |

Moyissh:As in eh, the most shocking thing about his post is, I am just even observing that he used the word "idiots" in his description of potential enquiries that may lead to him selling the car!! No! E no fit post price ooh, who serious make them call am, but E go dey price other people motor on nairaland why? Abi E sef no dey serious, abi E sef no get credit to call ........ ![]() As in, I no go surprise, Las las, na person whey just short, make kpoeh like akpu for ground dey post this kind stuff!! That is not pride, it is lower than pride, for a car whey be say you sef no fit even buy am with your own money as a car salesman and resell! Na E neighbour motor, E dey do middle man for, na E make am dey type like Omomo, whey dey learn how to talk, not a matured mind at all! Even if I get the money in billions, me can't patronise that kind person, the character manifested in that post eh, very repulsive!! Na E neighbour cause am, as E allow am snap motor, na E make am get opportunity to come a public platform like nairaland dey type like person whey E hand dey shake like Baba Emilokan!! |
Mrfksb1:It is you and your lineage that will reap the reward of a baseless and causeless curse that you raised and not me and my generation,.... I have made my statements, I am in benin city, I am not a faceless troll on nairaland speaking based on nothing.... You can't even dispute one thing I have said, it is to be placing curses upandan like a failed native doctor without shrine na e you sabì...... Talk where you dey for benin or Edo make we know how far...... How many years pensions and salaries did Oshiomole owe as governor? My late in-law was working as a nurse attached to primary health care centres in Esan land, for 15months no pay, she had to resort to loan from lapo to buy drugs to be selling drugs to patients at cut throat prices to survive.....because no drugs dispensed there . Go there now, from Ohordua to Igueben, to Ewohimi, is Obaseki owing them? Oshiomole increased minimum wage from #18k to #25k, at a time when he was even owing 13months wages and didn't even pay it! Obaseki increased it to #40k, and is paying them without delay and you are hear typing trash like Baba Emilokan whey E hand dey shake!! The only complaint I am aware of from civil service staff is his high level of financial shrewdness to the point where financial imprest for offices that they used for minor expenses like newspapers and DSTV subscriptions was stopped (everybody tune in to NTA, EBS and ITV)......aside from that, no issue, so what is the colour of your problem? No let me swear for you oooh!! Is he perfect? No!! Even Peter Obi as governor of anambra was receiving salary while resident Doctors went on strike in his states for 13months over poor wages, but today his financial prudence and savings kept the state in hard times when HIS SUCCESSOR took over so forget it. Every administration has its own priority, the one he is doing so far, I and countless thousands appreciate it and if we no like as things dey go, we protest and he listens, that's okay.......what is now wrong with him flagjng off "Light Up edo"? Abeg Park well....... Ambode commissioned "Light Up Lagos", the whole of Internet is littered with editorials even a nairaland thread was dedicated to praising Ambode for doing so, obaseki did "Light up Edo", he is a cursed criminal; una know where E dey pain una..... Dey compare lagos to Edo, do you know the IGR coming out of lagos state on a monthly basis? Is Edo state anywhere close to what lagos generate in a month in terms of internal revenue? Of which, on top of that lagos states, hold 98% stake of all debt owned by all 36 states in federation. Na that one you wan compare with Edo state? You no know where E dey pain you...... |
Ademola47:First of all, I am in Edo, benin city to be precise... Second, the commissioning is a symbolic push of the "Light Up Edo" project, which is tied to a power plant built by the state governor... It's beyond lighting up streets, it's part of an electrification project which the governor is making investments in, using the state built Ossiomo power plant to light up local communities and critical government agencies. Third, anybody who knows the governor of Edo state and is resident in Edo, calls him by name given to him by Omo'N Edo.....The wake and see governor....He hardly involves himself in inaugurating infrastructural projects, because he believes that is his duty by default!! There should be no fanfare in doing your own duty, to which you are indebted to the people, that is his policy. Most of the time, it is when the state wants to collabo or sign memorandum of Understanding with private sector on certain projects that he gets involved, that's why some of his critics used that to call him the MOU governor..... For those who are in Edo, benin city to be precise, come and tell us, when street lights were placed at ring Road, the very centre of benin, did he commission it? When Sapaele Road from ring Road, up to First junction was lit up, did he announce it? When stadium Road, and ring road to Ekehuan road by stadium junction was lit up, did he commission it? The main Road leading to Ohovbe quarters from agbor Park junction, inside, when that Road was tarred, did he commission it? Ekehuan Road nko? That has been tarred and dualised from ring Road up UNIBEN ekehuan campus to asoro junction, when did he do party that he tarred Road? Of which na gele gele port force that project to be rushed..... Those in Ugbowo, UNIBEN students whey dey here, come outside, I have not being there in a while but I am aware before you went off, 19th street up to police station Road, that bolt and uber refused to enter because it was too bad, was graded at one time, did they play jingle or cut tape to do that one? Come to GRA, many the streets in GRA, from first Ugbor, Gaius Idubor which connect second ugbor Road to Oko Central to much of the Erosion beaten road in Oko Central, did he cut tape for all those roads? If not that APC pundits and their paymasters are at work, wetin bring PDP campaign slogan from the last election "Edo no be lagos" here? If you want take a swipe at the governor or criticize him, use facts and not electoral slogans that are reminiscent of the bloody defeat that PDP gave to APC and that dwarf that was sacked from trying to install himself as a godfather over Edo state treasury........ Fellow Nairalander, please take a look at this...... https://www.nairaland.com/2883517/governor-ambodes-light-up-projects Exactly what Obaseki is being cursed for today is what Ambode was praised for yesterday, why? Because Ambode and his successor continually hugged their godfather and allowed him free access to the treasury, while Obaseki dared his own and damned the consequences, that's why Whenever he does anything, he is a fool and a sinner, but governors from Lagos state are wise and are Saints..... ABEG MAKE UNA LEAVE AM FOR US LIKE THAT!! At least this one dey on light for street, no be like una governor with una Godfather, Baba Emilokan whey dey off both light and camera for lekki tollgate before they killed innocent protesters and called them criminals........ This Obaseki whey you see so, no dey suck blood like Sanwo Olu and Baba Emilokan..... When RCC junction, on sapele Road was causing life threatening accident, the good people of edo protested, Obaseki came, addressed protesters and they sent contractors on ground to do some work there. Currently they have raised and graded the other side from the sapele bypass coming to town, work is slow but we are seeing the reward of protest. Recently, the governor demolished properties near Ogheghe area, citing the area as government land that was encroached on and re-acquired via court order, the good people Edo went to protest at state secretariat, they went and came back no casualites..... Thats the type of human being we need, not the one with his political godson, trying to raise a townhall, different, from......... ![]() |
