Dis issue get 2 dimension which affect 2 sets of stakeholders.

Full Disclosure - middlemen and dealers

due diligence - buyers and oda ppl we de interested.
Bias ke? undecided

I bow for you, well na your opinion.

But trust me, if you enter berger yard or most places where dealers thrive, pose as Middleman, tell dealer say you wan snap car show buyer. Car whey be say the dealer tell you say na clean title, non-accidented.

Then you tell them make them open door for you, make you snap where VIN dey, make you show prospective buyers (no be say you get buyers there, there or you carry buyer come).

You whey no get bias, Wetin you think say that dealer go tell you? Especially when the dealer know say the title, no too clean like that or even self, E dirty well well........... grin

You are a middleman and technically you hold the short end of the stick, so most likely if you meet a dealer whey tell you say na clean title and is a dealer that is not too friendly with middlemen (trust me I know because I am not), you are bound to take his word for it and wait for a buyer to ask for his right to request a VIN.

That's why I made that bolded comment, from my observation - I stand to be corrected - 6 out of 10 dealers dey treat middlemen like mosquito or lik
Housefly whey wan enter E mouth....... grin

So if a middleman is found to have posted an ad without a VIN, I, as a reasonable human being can understand....... cool

Highest, if I am interested, I will go there, inspect, satisfy my longthroat and curiosity and then demand for the VIN so that I can be sure that the history of the car is as pleasant as advertised....... smiley

But, what I refuse to understand is a middleman calling himself a dealer (especially when he knows that he doesn't have verified info about a car, special emphasis on verified) or a dealer refusing to disclose the actual status of a car........ angry

That one is a different kettle of smelling fish.........angry

Sellers should try as much as possible to give details about the car they are selling. There is nothing wrong in buying accident car but the buyer has the right to know the extent of damage, the area of damage so that he can know what he is buying. Most of the sellers that cosplay normally quote will tell you the car is "accident free" when it is not. I sold my car that has gear problem and the buyer was aware of it and willing to buy it because of the neatness of the car. We got the cost of the gear box and share it 50/50. ......what you will understand is that majority of sellers on NL are not truthful. If you are selling a tokunbo car on Nl it is a rule that you include your vin. Obey the simple rule to avoid embarrassment. People buy accident cars but let them know what they are buying and decide if they can buy it. To make money is not easy. After suffering to safe #2m you end up buying a car then you continue to borrow money to repair....is bad.
Well! The truth is any attempt to mislead someone in any matter or dealings whatsoever in the course of business is bad and ought to be tagged by law as wrong but Naija law enforcement agencies na something else.......

But I must correct you here, there is no rule on Nairaland that states that you must provide a VIN before you paste car ads.

The rate at which people are misled to buy cars that have a history that is unpleasant to prospective clients, makes it desirable that VIN be posted, but I must say that it is not a rule.

I think it is high time Nairaland wakes up from its slumber and make sound rules for the auto-section with the consequence of a ban in the absence of compliance.

Though I must admit, that some middle men will have a hard time selling cars, as most of them may not have the time or patience or even easily accessible resources to be checking VIN for every car they wanna sell, so it is likely that such folks will take their businesses elsewhere in the event that such a policy becomes a rule - which in turn may affect traffic to the auto-section, which I don't believe is desirable for the traffickers on Nairaland kwa........ undecided -but then again, like I said, VIN posting though desirable is not a rule.....

How do those words imply that this isn't a clean title vehicle?

Clown
Well "Mr Basic understanding", google the words "Rebuttal" and "imply".
Maybe you might learn enough to grow your cognitive faculties by a decade.

You called out the OP for claiming clean title for a ride because he didnt post VIN and went as far as daring him to post VIN if his claim is true or STFU, even when he clearly stated that VIN na for serious buyers and not wanderers of the Nairaland auto section galaxy.

With all your high and mighty and unsightly talk, he now posted the VIN, instead of you to MAN-UP and STAND-UP over your conduct/comment, you are busy forming public defender against people hiding VIN to deceive prospective buyers.

Okay please confirm for your "Basic Understanding" fans, between you and computerglobal is the VIN clean title yes or no!? No answer.

Okay, as you implied recently, while some folks tried to correct you, did this OP or is this OP among the teeming number of dealers who hide the VIN to deceive people to buy junk, yes or no!? No answer....

Your own is to read one comment, quickly run to dictionary, you see one new word, oya type.

Before Na "Basic Understanding", as you don see lack, it turned to "Lack of Basic Understanding", now you have seen "Clown".

You dont even realise that you are even the bigger fool, if not, you suppose to know gan that all VIN checks are typically valid outside the shores of this country, beyond that na bobo.

I have met at least a dealer that brought in a car, clean title, put it up for sale and felt like driving the car once in a while, only to bash it, move the ride to kirikiri/berger yard to panel beat the car and at the end of the day, he will flash you clean title VIN and you with your dictionary will be feeling like one big don........................on Nairaland...... undecided

Its not really your fault though, its dealers who don't understand the difference between real criticism and the taunts and chants of an overgrown toddler.

I have read the Nairaland rules for posting through and through and I have never seen where posting car Ads with a VIN (useful as it is) is compulsory neither have I seen where posting car ads without one is worthy of a ban, so why they even bother with your taunts I dont understand......... undecided

Just keep up the "good work" sha.

One day, one day, like papillo you may see the word in the dictionary that willl make you grow up to be a superstar..................on Nairaland!! wink

Pray tell where I said that. Like, show me where I said it wasn't a clean title.
"Can't make That claim without a clear photo of the VIN stamp"

Mr Basic understanding, do those words look familiar?

Come to think of it, if you are so eager to "create a movement of vin checkers", simply politely asking the OP for the VIN would suffice, as opposed to raising a rebuttal you arent man enough to withdraw.

You offended the OP and he acted/responded rashly( obviously no love-lost between you too), but now that you have your VIN, MAN-UP!!

And stop acting like a freaking toddler.............. angry

A lack of understanding is a dangerous thing, like too little knowledge.

Do you even understand the purpose of my initial objections?

How would you feel if you saw a can of liquid advertised as containing Gold, with no sort of Objective proof to verify that claim?

If you're a thinking person, which I frankly doubt from this commentary, you woukdnt hesitate to call out the advertiser.

The VIN is that objective proof. And any seller confident in their often lofty claim would always back them up with the VIN.
Hmmmmmmm! Thinking person? Like seriously? shocked

I was hoping you will at least prove yourself to be a bigger man and go ahead and at least withdraw your rebuttal because it was you who started all this sh1t in the first place about the ride not being a clean title.

The best I expected from you was an apology and then posting here whatever info you got from the VIN check you threatened to do - that is assuming you even did any as threatened.

The least was a simple apology and let others who may respect your comments know that the ride was as stated by the OP - Clean title.

Instead you are doing........something else...... undecided

So in summary, you simply tried to bring down OP's business because he didnt post a VIN and when he did eventually post one, you are still acting like a complete jack-a$s. Refusing to accept that you messed up plus now you are throwing shades up and down like a baby wearing diapers too tight to be its size..............

That is not rude, its not stupid, its not dumb, its just childish and will end up getting you less and less respect from reasonable human beings.

Keep that in mind next time you want to throw shades at another dealer for simply not posting a VIN, no matter how right thinking or reasonable you feel your "initial objections" may be........

https://www.nairaland.com/4397618/hyundai-sonata-2008-perfect-condition#65825453
Bros! Well I understand your message but the premise of your statement doesnt quite fit.

The first link you posted showed the cost of clearing/shipping a 2012 toks sonata (roro style). It had nothing to do with cost, 2012 sonata can never be 1.2m. Heck even hand-to-hand 2012 Sonata can never be 1.2m except na dash and from experience most of those type of that dash dey run belle - those kind of things na E dey make men like Gazzuzz famous, because na E dey bail awoof seekers from all these Kazeems whey wan use una money reach mecca and marry second wife............ grin

Secondly the next link you posted was from princeonlinebiz for 1.1million (slightly negotiable) while patani's own is 1.2million (but negotiable).

Bros is it 100k difference that brought all these many many links that you are typing here that you did not give princeonlinebiz? huh

Of which, in my opinion (I stand to be corrected), if a normal human being sees two vehicles of relatively the same price, one states its slightly negotiable another quickly adds but negotiable and airtime is low.

Is it not to first call Mr "But Negotiable" (who in this case is actually the owner of the car) as opposed to Mr "Slightly Negotiable " who is a Nairaland dealer (or may even be a middle man gan for all we know).

Also the last link you placed is an ad for a 2008 sonata that costs 799k from none other than Nairaland's very own jerryfemi88. Not all fellas in the auto section/Nairaland dey gbadun the guy car's (no offence or bad belle intended).

Lastly @onatisi I have been roaming the realms of this auto section for quite sometime and I have been looking at patani's comment and I am still looking for the bad taste inside the comment.

Infact, I see that he took Dadr's criticism like a gentleman. You never jam some kind bad tasters for criticism for your life for this Nairaland , if not you for no talk.......
