SOLARPOWER1: @ejiod, I can see you moved from web development to Data Science. In this era, what's your advice for someone who wants to make a decision between Data Science and Web development? Most of the job opportunities I see in my location are for web and Data Science jobs need more industry experience with little hope for new entry. There are many independent variables to this. It depends on the portfolio you have built even though you don’t have experience. For web dev, it’s always important to have these projects laid down while for data science/analytics I will strongly advise you learn SQL and if possibly run some analysis as part of portfolio. In terms of choosing whether data science or web development. The latter has more chances of landing an offer compared to the former but once you can get a data job role, there’s always room for progression compared to web Just weigh your options |

SOLARPOWER1: The question asked by the original poster has not been answered "Which SQL certification" should he go for. I agree with what both of you said concerning Postgre SQL and I never said he should ignore Postgre sql but there is no recognized certification for that and HRs who are the door way to jobs just want something to convince them of your skill set . You are right as there is no certification for postgreSQL. One basic rule of thumb is ability to prove your worth. From my experience none and I repeat none has ever asked me for my certificates whether BSc,MSc or any certifications I earned. What they are concerned is ability to defend via their skill test they present to you. It’s nice to have certification but that doesn’t guarantee you to get the offer because you have to write the SQL challenge test. I totally get your point. Oracle is even feeling the heat with Databricks and snowflake disrupting data infrastructure. Tableau or even Microsoft PBI are scared as new BI springing up. Looker was just recently bought by Google because it gives every individual the ability to question data. If following the trend these days, Oracle may even be the least. This is not 2010 or 2008. We are in era of big data. One major element of the big data is the volume and velocity. How fast can your big data move.? Oracle is not even close by. Everyone is talking about unstructured and semi structured data, column based database. To cut the explanation short. If I’m Oracle I will start scouting for disruptive tech to buy. This is what Google is doing |

PeaceJoyLove: Hmmmm!
I get your point, but you need to be attentive and study the trend of activities and businesses. I wish the kind of sources of information available today were there when I left the university, honestly, the kind of the journey of the Israelite most of us took wouldn't have happened.
You should realise now (but I think you dont) that the days of paying extravagant, bogus, amd ridiculous amount for certificates are getting over. We are moving into "show us" what you can do before we employ you. It is getting clearly that university certs esp for tech and engineering degrees are absolutely useless. I can count the number of people who abandoned studies in Ivy leagues to focus on their works cos they realised certificates they will get are craps.
And recently, private certifications are getting axed out too. Unless Oracle do something fast, it will be beheaded too.
Again, open sources are beating mercilessly those private firms collecting ridiculous fees from every added features or upgrades. Maybe an open source needs to get serious to break windows' jaw and I see it happening soon because windows is a ridiculous OS which has refused to get it right many times. IOS may be hard for now.
Cyber security is another issue. Russia has announced that its only open sources or indigenous software products they will accept. Meaning that all the Microsoft, apple, Oracle, and bla bla bla are getting hacked soon. And many nations will go the Russia way esp Arabs, N. Korea, China, and other opponents.
This is why I said you must know the reason for what is happening, else you will make a mistake why making decisions.
But I see that Africa is a snail and wont attempt to lead. But these nations given out jobs are going to move in faster. He who has ears, let him use them now and not be caught unaware.
I would follow this advice. I can see that this guy is actually in the industry and he knows what he is saying. Keep it up bro.
Bless you for this thread. I paid attention to it recently to see how far you have covered cos I want to write about this subject, but since you have smashed many of the areas, I am just going to let whoever is smart to keep following you. It shows that you are "balling" and flying higher...and not bothered by peanuts from trainings some jacka.sses would have asked since your pay is flowing. And you know the market is huge and it cannot affect you for releasing info.
Bro, well done. God bless you. Thanks for dissecting this!!! God bless you too Wanted to respond but had to restrict the urge to shalaye.. |

SOLARPOWER1: Go for ORACLE SQL certs Oracle in my opinion may be good but most big organizations are moving to postgreSQL That’s if no the most robust database today especially when it comes to real time analytics |
Getting a data analytics certification has been running through my mind lately. I did some web surfing on good certifications to enroll and stumbled on compTIA Data+Please do you have insights on this; how valuable and pivotal it can be for the IT (data analytics) space? Thanks.
Nahhhh, not sure it’s valuable. AWS certification or use of softwares like Tableau associate cert or PBI that gives you a badge of an analyst could be a strong foot. |

One of the reasons I really don’t like associating myself as Nigerian is the height of insincerity and being fake. Just look at what Religion has done to this country. Religion here in Africa is like prison. Truth be told we all want sex and that’s a fact. Paint it anyhow it’s just the plain truth. Some would prefer blowJ and HandJ and still say it’s not sex.. smh. How will you be in a relationship and say sex is a sin when you lie and commit other form of sin, to me that’s just blatant pretense. As par me concerned sex should never be a rule or bargain for any relationship. In this life everyone should be happy not being in a cage. That’s how this cage brought boko haram and recent kidnappings |

ProfAmaben: Congratulations to him. I'm an advocate of technology and not a fanboy since technology is just a tool utilized in solving problems. You asking me to build a WordPress theme from scratch is like me asking you to use JavaScript to analyze topological features using synthetic aperture radar interferometry and rendering the result with React.
We should all pat ourselves on the back regardless of tech stack or framework. Someone lost his life in Arkansas over Angular vs React fight, say no to fanboyism. Shalom.
