The Coordinator General of the South-East Revival Group (SERG), Willy Ezugwu on Monday called on all Nigerians of Igbo descent to ensure that they pitch their voice against President Goodluck Jonathan at the 2015 general elections.

In a statement emailed to Channels Television, Mr. Ezugwu said that “any person who is genuinely of Igbo extraction must be prepared to punish President Goodluck Jonathan at the next election or through mass protests that would amount to a vote of no confidence in him after the series of failed promises he made to garner votes from the region.”

He accused President Jonathan of deceiving Igbo people with his campaign promises of 2011 as all his actions since coming into office have served to only further impoverish the one group of people who genuinely voted for him going by election figures.

The statement said all that the people of the South East have to show for supporting the President in good faith is the array of phantom projects that if implemented would only serve to multiply the hell they presently live in.

[b]It said “Construction of the Second Niger Bridge is a fresh political dummy packaged by President Jonathan and his south-east proxy, Anambra state governor, Peter Obi and is being marketed under the guise of being financed through Public Private Partnership-PPP/BOT-Built-Operate & Transfer.

“When Jonathan solicited support from Igbos in 2011 with promises of projects he did not disclosed to these trusting people that his grand plan was to sell them into the slavery that PPP-BOT amounts to since past events show that these concessions are usually granted to cronies who in turn share the resulting loot with those in government.

“But all these are being disregarded in the bid to again hoodwink Ndigbo in the South East and cart away votes come 2015 Presidential election. The desperation of President Jonathan’s spinners is astounding. They are branding this project as the first of its kind in Nigeria when the harrowing experiences of some travelers in some parts of the South West since the collapsed of similar PPP-BOT project between the Federal Government and Bi-Courtney Ltd on rebuilding of Lagos/Ibadan Express road expose the lie for what it is.

“Private Building of the Second Niger Bridge with-no fixed completion date is the stuff fraud is made of. It would come with consequences on the people since the investor would be eager to recoup the resources invested and if history and happenings elsewhere are good guides, the profit taking in such ventures would be unregulated and at the expense of Igbo-race for next 40 years or for the number of years of slavery specified in the agreement.

“We challenge those who routed for Jonathan Presidency to go ask him: what has been the benefit of swaying Igbos to support Jonathan and the PDP? What has happened to the national resources that the President is meant to hold in trust that he now has to start shopping for a slave master for the South East? Why has government abandoned the Onitsha Seaport project, a cargo airport in the South East and the Orient Oil refinery?” The SERG Coordinator asked.[/b]

SERG asked Igbo people to immediately start shopping for there would be candidate for the next elections and particularly look out for a person that will protect their economic interest and not some who will willfully sell them into slavery. The group said the easiest way of ensuring this is to insist that a South-East Presidency in 2015 is a must with a warning to people who hide under the guise of social cultural groups to truncate the collective aspiration of Igbo people.

It also said the people should not rule out having to take on the Jonathan government over any attempt to foist anti-people policies like PPP-BOT on them since access to world class infrastructure is embedded in the economic rights guaranteed by the laws of the land and that the government can provide these without recourse to sending Nigerians into slavery.

According to SERG, the Igbo people must immediately activate all the democratic avenues available for punishing President Jonathan for reneging on his electoral promises.

Goddex: The strategy now is to blame FG for every lapses of opposition controlled states. The last time it was the Lagos - Badagry expressway which they promised to complete in 2014. This is 2013 and Fashola has only done 3% of the work from Orile - Mile 2. Meanwhile, they had rushed to take over this road from FG because of greed about the billions they will be making from toll fees and now they cannot complete it.

The crisis in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) over the 2015 presidential ambition of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan threatened to erupt into the open today as the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in Akure grounded a jet being operated by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, who is the chairman of Nigeria's Governors Forum (NGF).
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who is also understood to be interested in running for president, was grounded along with Mr. Amaechi.

Mr. Jonathan is engaged in growing political warfare with Governor Amaechi over his refusal to support him for a second term in office.
SaharaReporters learnt from sources at the airport that the NAMA managing director ordered the Bombardier jet, which was recently purchased by the governor, permission to take off from the airport acting on “orders from above,” apparently President Goodluck Jonathan.

Our source stated that Mr. Amaechi had picked up the Speaker from Owerri Airport in Imo State soon after Tambuwal attended the burial ceremony of a relative of the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha.
The Speaker and Governor Amaechi later headed to Ekiti to attend the final funeral rites of the late Deputy Governor of the state, Funmilayo Olayinka.

Following the ceremony, the Governor and the Speaker returned to the Akure Airport to depart for Port Harcourt only to find that NAMA officials had grounded the jet, leaving them stranded.The governor reportedly put a call to NAMA MD, Mazi Nnamdi Udoh, who promised to get back to him regarding the order to ground the jet.
After waiting for a while and not getting the return call, the governor began to call Udoh, only to discover that the MD's phone had been switched off.

It took the chairman of the House of Representatives committee on Aviation, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, to get the MD to reverse the no-fly order.  There was no immediate confirmation as to what Abuja was trying to achieve.

Speaker Tambuwal is understood to be seriously considering the race for Presidency in 2015, but it is unclear what the relationship with Amaechi may be in that respect.  The Rivers State governor is also linked with Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State for the race as vice-presidential candidate.

Yinka: Igbo people have been waiting for new Niger bridge since 1985 and Lagos is complaining of a promise made by FG in 2011. FG has been fixing ORE-BENIN since 1999 and still not completed. Lagos is asking too much from an inefficient government. I will advice Lagosians to wait till 2020.

The cold war between the Federal Government and Lagos State Government may be the reason why the latter has stopped the Lagos Safe City Project, a scheme aimed at providing 10,000 solar-powered closed circuit cameras all over the metropolis, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.

This emerged against the backdrop of the increasing cases of kidnapping in Lagos, a menace that has defied efforts by the police and other in the state.

While making enquiries about police effort in tracking kidnappers through the security cameras in the state, a police source at the State Criminal Investigation Department told our correspondent that security cameras had never been used in their investigations.

"The only time we make use of CCTV cameras is when our investigation takes us to a hotel or mall with security cameras. But if it is a crime committed on a Lagos road, forget it," the source said.

Governor Babatunde Fashola had stated in January 2009 that the 10,000 cameras the state planned to install were to help to reduce crime in the state.

At a demonstration event, Fashola said the number of policemen in the state was inadequate considering the number of people in the state.

He said at the time, "Eighteen million people cannot be protected and policed by 33,000 people. This is impossible. No matter how much we try to increase the number of policemen, we cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result.

"In an information technology-driven world, we have to be counted as one of those states and communities which will adopt best practices. Cameras, sensors, tracking devices are the nerve centre of these facilities that would assist men and officers of the police force, fire service among others to do their duty much more effectively."

The project was to be funded by the Lagos Security Trust Fund while the cameras were supposed to be managed remotely through a central security command unit. Four years after this announcement was made, the state has not had a taste of those promises.

Our correspondent contacted the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, on why the cameras have yet to be installed as the governor promised.

Ibirogba simply said the matter was out of the hands of the state government.

He said, "The problem with the issue of security cameras has nothing to do with the state government.

A state government official, who is also familiar with the issue, said the Federal Government's negative attitude to it might be political.

"We all know the security cameras issue may remain buried as far as the Federal Government is concerned. If you think the Federal Government is overly concerned about Lagos, a state that is not controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party, then you are naïve," the government source said.

Efforts to get the Presidency's reaction did not yield positive result on Thursday as the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, could not be reached on his not pick the calls made to his telephone line.
