I generally like @Abagworo's posts a lot, he is one of the sharper and more perceptive folks here. But on the issue of whether Lagos is Yorubaland. . . I guess we will have to agree to disagree. |
Thanks for the links, @Ma_J_Blige. Looks like you are correct, the NEXT article is too negative. I found this quote from Aganga interesting: "This transaction clearly puts Nigeria on the global map. We now have a transparent and internationally observable benchmark against which international investors can accurately price risk," Aganga said, forecasting a rise in foreign investment into sub-Saharan Africa's second-biggest economy. |
I used a pie analogy before in the thread last week. Basically, a small pie even if perfectly shared will leave everyone hungry. While sharing the pie properly is important, of arguably larger importance is growing that pie. |
Well, let's hear what her plan is if she goes to Nigeria. If she has some high-paying job already lined up there, then fine. Or her uncle is a senator/governor, fine. Anyway, my own philosophy regarding this stuff. . . you cannot return to Nigeria with the same skillset you left with. Get a masters, some sort of experience at a good company, some sort of professional qualifications. Otherwise, how will you differentiate yourself from the crowd when you get back to Nigeria? Nobody is going to give you a nice job in Nigeria if you have the same exact qualifications as other Nigerians, but just happened to live illegally in the US for a little bit. |
lol @Jega. What a tool. F him. Will be interesting to see how this all goes down. |
Honestly, I'd be happier if the money allocated to the FG was reduced. Cut down the money they get in 1/2, give more to the states and LGs. |
omongbatim:I believe that you can. I think leaving affects your ability to apply for citizenship. . . there is a 5 year rule required for applying for citizenship. Perhaps google and confirm?
Poster, this is an unpopular opinion here, but you really should follow your instinct and move back before you lose your mind. I typed up a reply but held off, but once I read all your 12 posts on NL, I am convinced you are doing the right thing. Another 3 years from now, you might be even worse off. I don't see spineless gutless Obama (or congress) forcing through an immigration amnesty, which he promised, anytime soon. That's at least another 2 years. Even if they did, it may not cover those who have been in the US less than 5 years. I'm not being pessimistic. I just want you to do what is right for you, all of us strangers' advice notwithstanding.
I do not agree. What is the point of going to Nigeria? There are no jobs there unless you have amazing qualifications from abroad. Or you have lots of money and can start your own business (e.g., $400k+). Or are very well-connected. I mean, I could see if she were flat out unemployed. But she has two jobs. Anyway, I've seen too many illegal Mexican aliens, illegal Nigerians etc who have made it in this country. Our old mechanic in Houston, dude can barely speak English but now has his own auto garage and a nice home somewhere. Can an illiterate mechanic ever hope to do the same in Nigeria? Anyway, she should also investigate nursing school. This is a route many illegal Nigerians take to become permanent residents. I don't know how long the process takes, but it is something she needs to investigate. Another option is marriage. Running away from the proverbial land of milk and honey doesn't make much sense to me, illegal status or not. |
Wtf did GEJ do with the money ![]() How do billions of dollars just disappear like that? |
I'm a fan of Gabrielle Union too. Not really too many others. . . i don't really follow celebs that much. Just mostly people who were in sitcoms/movies I really liked. |
^ what is RL? abeg don't let me tell your gf your lusting after alicia keys.
RL = real lifefeel free to tell her, she doesn't care about me be attracted to celebs ![]() I've been crushing on Alicia for some time now. Such a talented woman. The fact that she is attractive too is just icing on the cake. |
i guess your taste is one of a kind. i have never met any man who will pick kim kardashian over alicia keys, that is until now. kim kardashian is the type who guys just sleep with and run off. ray j and a whole host of niccaz just got a piece and ran off. you know why ? cuz its more hype than reality. once you get her in bed you get to see the real fugly mahfukaz behind the mask. this makes folk run off. now with alicia keyes ? the first dude who ever looked her way wifed her up straight and abandoned his family for her now thats one helluva substance. swiss beatz couldnt believe his luck that she even likes him. he knocked her up straight so that nobody will touch her. he put his flag in the ground. thats beauty right thurr patna. recognize game
If I ever see Swizz in RL I'll punch him in the face. Hrm. Very OT. So as cheap as labor is in Nigeria, would it be a bad idea to homeschool your kid in Nigeria? I guess this would hurt them socially. But you could probably hire a good master's level teacher to supervise your child's math, master's level chemist for chemistry, etc. Thoughts? Bad idea, good idea? I'm guessing that this is a bad idea, but just throwing it out there. |
Not a fan. They are paid an assload of money and from what I've seen (of expats at Shell, at least), they aren't even that technically sound. By no means the best of their own country. |
Anyone have a reference handy (maps, papers, etc) describing this NG in the SW? How much is it? Where (offshore, I am guessing. . . )? |

when i grow up, i want to becomerich. becomerich > everyone else |
At the very least, get permanent residency/citizenship first before you leave so that if things don't work out in naija you have an escape plan/some flexibility. Doesn't make sense to leave the US in haste. Act in haste and you'll regret in leisure ![]() |
I don't think Buhari can win with some people ![]() First he is a religious zealot. Then when he makes a pastor his VP, now that pastor is a "false prophet" ![]() ACN/CPC are best off not trying to pander to people who will hate them regardless of what they do. |

I understand your point fstranger. All I'm saying is that whether you think these things are useful or not, they certainly are not easy to get. There will be some exceptions here and there, but overall it represents some of the best students at the university. |
@Sagamite: If you get the chance, go to Austin for a couple weeks. Spend 5 minutes walking downtown near the campus and you'll see at least 10 southern beauties who look as good or better than KimK (not as nice behinds though, of course.) Not only are there a surplus of attractive women there, you'll be at a tremendous advantage armed with your (I'm guessing) British accent. |
tboy1:Doh, I'm an id.iot . . . thanks! |
Generally those who bash others with first class degrees (or the equivalents) themselves are incapable of getting these things ![]() Congrats to these students! |
Great news indeed. |
Sagamite:Dude, no way. She has a nice booty, that is just about it. Don't get me wrong, I love KimK. But w/o that @ss she is just another run of the mill white chick. |
Ban the illustrious and legendary AljHarem? Never! Up Alhaji Harem! ![]() |
I have nothing substantial to add to this discussion. Just wanted to shout out Ubuntu. Been using it for the past 1.5 years now on my laptop. I love it! |
Heh. Cute, but not the answer. Also, Africa is more like 50 or 100 years behind the developed world. . . |
Roads are fairly expensive, no? Quite a generous gift to his community. |
Can you even feed yourself 2 meals a day on under $2.00? Not to talk of any sort of upkeep? So if 92% of people live below $2.00/day, do we then conclude that your average Nigerian is literally starving to death? |
