Katsumoto:
3. Education in Nigeria has been going downhill for years. I think someone said that with good infrastructure, Nigeria may have had call centres but that simply ignores the good educational system in India which has prepared India adequately for this industry
Call center workers do not require advanced education. All you need is to be able to speak English with a clear-enough accent so that the Americans you are speaking to on the other end can understand you well. Plenty of such folk in Nigeria.

The only comparative advantage India has for this particular business is that they have stable power and high-speed internet access, and we do not.

For higher-end industry, yes, you'll need better education. But it makes sense to conquer lower-end stuff before moving up.
RomanceRe: Is Your Girlfriend Taller Than You? by ekubear1: 6:19am On Jan 05, 2011
I'm 6'1, so no. Chick I'm seeing now is 5'5.

Tallest chick I've ever dated before is like 5'9. And for some reason, I usually end up dating women between 5'4 - 5'8.

I'd have no problems dating a girl up to my height, though.

Or the beautiful 6'4 Candice Parker  kiss
RomanceRe: You Discovered That Ur Wife Is Dating Someone What Would U Do? by ekubear1: 6:10am On Jan 05, 2011
End the marriage, move on with my life.

If it was one of those "burst into the house find her f1cking another dude" situations (like Mr Biggs and R Kelly:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL4FHZUvv3Y&feature=related), there is a good chance I'd kill both of them though  sad

I know that this is dumb and would ruin my own life, but I'm just being honest.

how would a man forget a marriage and his wife in just few years? that impossible will you do that
It is very easy. Easiest way to get over a woman is to find a new one. At least, this has been my own experience

You know the way people and cultures are different, You would be shocked that a white woman that disagreed with her husband would just go and sleep with his friend to spite him and let him know later. The guy would still forgive him and they would continue living together, I wonder how many Naija ppl can do this. If a Naija woman wants to cheat self, she tries to walk far from her husbands buddies
Lol, that is some TV sitcom sh1t. Surely it doesn't happen in real life (or at least, that often)?

How many Naija ppl can marry a girl with 3 kids from 3 fathers? But a white guy would do it without blinking an eye.
This sounds something more like an african american thing (no offense intended to any reading, but it is the truth). White guy might marry a divorced woman with kids, but not the white equivalent of a hoodrat.
at least you don't mind the childcare stuff. And I'm sure your wife won't mind cooking with you.

true about white guys. at first when I was friends with them I was shocked at their behavior.  all the time i was thinking it was for an ulterior motive because i didn't know any of my black male friends (who are extremely good at sweet talking by the way) who will offer to give me a ride to grocery store or come with me and help out etc. but i've come to realize it's part of their culture. then I wonder how lucky white girls are and they don't know how good they have it.
yea the behavior definitely seems wimpy. but those are the best husbands. I definitely want that kind of husband.
I sorta wonder. . . is the influence their fathers or their mothers? Nigerian guys with strong mothers tend to behave very differently towards women than guys with mothers who have zero power in the relationship (or at least, this has been my observation.)

by poor white guys you mean the red necks that you come across on the public transit etc? ewww  lol
Redneck white folk are my type of people, lol. Very down to earth. And a lot less fake than upperclass whites are. But that is another story, heh

mr fstranger, how is life. Still in jersey or back to the midwest?
PoliticsRe: Sharia - Babangida's Varsity Bans Hugging On Campus by ekubear1: 5:20am On Jan 05, 2011
It is fine to ban hugging, but not to use religion as the basis for the ban in a public institution.

And it goes w/o saying that blaming this wrong decision of the school on IBB makes no sense.
If i work 9-5 and come back home to do all the housework + childcare (which is a full time job on it's own right), then I most certainly expect compensation in the form of vacations, nice car, paying less share of bills etc.

to me, marrying a white guy is easier because these men do not have problems with cooking, doing dishes or babysitting. helping out in the house is not something that will crush their "ego" because it's something their father probably does. so it's part of their culture.
I have male professors that leave class early because "it's their turn to pick up the kids from school" I wish more Nigerian men were like that. It will be so much easier on these poor Nigerian women.
I don't mind the childcare stuff. I just hate housework (unless it is fixing broken things.) Dishes, laundry, cooking. . . I hate that stuff. Though I enjoy cooking with others, just not by myself.

Agreed about white guys. Your typical upper middle-class white guy is so henpecked. . . makes me feel sorta bad for them, lol.

Poor white guys though are like Nigerians smiley
FamilyRe: I Regret Bringing My Wife Abroad by ekubear1: 4:47am On Jan 05, 2011
@Jenifa: Hrm. There are lots of crazy insane, feminist type of women in the Western world, women who want to emasculate their dudes.

But there are lots of traditional type of women too. The type who will work a 9-5 and still want to come home and cook for their man, etc. The type that aren't going to act out of control just because they earn a lot of money (or more money than you), are lawyers, doctors, etc.

I don't necessarily want a housegirl, but I do want a traditionalist type of wife rather than some feminist. Or a woman who will turn into a radical feminist if you run out of cash. . .
FamilyRe: I Regret Bringing My Wife Abroad by ekubear1: 4:37am On Jan 05, 2011
dayokanu:
The fact is this.

When a guy goes from the West to Nigeria, almost every girl would act nice to you because they believe (maybe erroneously) that you are rich and probably a ticket out of poverty from Africa.

By the time she gets over here and she is empowered then the real HER comes out and you might be shocked what the green village girl has turned into overnight.
I understand it can be dangerous to marry a poor woman from the bush somewhere, but you should even avoid the ones in Nigeria whose families are financially comfortable?  undecided

I don't mind marrying someone here in the US, and in all likelihood that is what will end up happening. But of course would prefer to have my options as open as possible.

Is it like he cannot have kids, period?

Artificial insemination should work, right?

Anyway, Tosin is the past, he needs to move on (and investigate whatever it will take to fix his problems.)

deniyor:
Yes u can. All sorts of people go to the club. It doesn't make u good or bad. And less chances of pretence.
I still think it strongly depends on the type of club, and what type of people go there. You aren't going to find wifey material in a club where the clientele is mostly hoodrats. . .

@Jenifa_: If my wife ends up making more money than me, then I don't see how this is a bad thing (unless it is a result of my career flopping.)

The more money, the better, no?
FamilyRe: I Regret Bringing My Wife Abroad by ekubear1: 4:00am On Jan 05, 2011
I wonder why this doesn't work with Nigerians. Indians for example tend to go back home to marry, then carry their wife back here to live with them. I've never heard any stories about those Indian women acting out.

Hrm, maybe it only backfires for Nigerians if you import a woman much poorer than yourself, rather than someone from a similar educational background, etc?

Kinda interesting, though.

Pretty interesting discussion.

One thing I don't understand. . . if she'll likely end up a housewife (like the wives of many upper-class Nigerian dudes are), then is this so big a deal? Just teach her so she can read and write at a basic level. Why is more than that necessary?

Good girls go clubbing too. Just go to upscale clubs.

If you party with hoodrats, then the chance of finding a good girl is close to zero  grin

CareerRe: edit by ekubear1: 2:52am On Jan 05, 2011
Hrm. Certainly as far as qualifications to enter the two fields goes, IT is a lot easier than medicine. You don't even need to study computer science in college to do IT. You can major in English (or some other field having nothing to do with technology) and later switch to IT after purchasing some books from O'Reilly or something tongue (And even that is overkill, for most areas of IT, no more than a high school education is needed.)

Obviously, the prerequisites for practicing medicine are a lot higher and thus the quality/competence of your average doctor is a lot higher than that of your average IT pro (at least, in my opinion.)

With that said, the top-end software engineering guys (the guys at Microsoft, Google, and the like) imo are of pretty excellent quality and can match up with anyone in the world.
