MRTA7:To me all our players looked all bad two weeks ago. DDG, Pogba, Matic, Martial, Lingard and Rashford. I will have to wait to see if the Cardiff match was a fluke and how the whole setting plays out from now. When I saw us play against City, I was beginning to blame myself for not joining the 'Mourinho out' crusade earlier. Although I am someone who is very patient and want to see clearly where a problem lies before taking a decision. |
Well, good say una no be coach. Una for don hurriedly take some decisions for United wey fit later turn out to be bad ones. |
chrisley024:Unlike Shaw, Jones was fit in the beginning seasons. |
chrisley024:Same can be said of all defenders except Smalling. Although even Smalling and Bailly have caused senseless penalties |
In the Cardiff match, there were two of his headed clearances. Forget it, not many defenders would put their life on the line for such duels in a choked box. He lacks height but does things some tall defenders cannot. My only prayer is that he says fit. |
We cannot say he didn't play many matches last season, only that he didn’t play full season. We can however blame his injury against Huddersfield in the early part of the match for the beginning of our woes last season. Lindelof was introduced in that match and caused two goals.
|
ChristineC:You cannot define his career by one season. Remember he was rushed back from injury by Mourinho in the beginning of the season. It made him to go back quickly to injury. That has happened twice already. Fact is that he has been more available than Shaw and Rojo. |
chrisley024:Jones is not always unfit. It is a recent thing. For instance in 2013/2014, he was the fifth most played player on the team, and seond most played defender behind Evra. If it is however by injury raking that players should be sold, then Luke Shaw is the worst on the list. Shaw 2015/2016 450 minutes 2016/2017 692 minutes 2017/2018 789 minutes Jones 2015/2016 529 minutes 2016/2017 1585 Minutes 2017/2018 1975 Minutes Do I see double standard here from CristineC and Chrisley024? |
ChristineC:You are completely wrong here. For a forward, it is better for a left footer to play from the right wing in modern three forward like Salah, Messi, Robben, Ronaldo, etc. But not same for defenders. Evra played from the right was a one off case. Ferdinand was not very comfortable playing from the left as much as the right. Vidic had a better balance. If it is so easy, why has Bailly not played even one match from the LCB? |
ChristineC:Rojo and Shaw have not stayed fit. Jones was even fit at the beginning of his life in Manchester United under SAF and Moyes. He did some decent jobs for SAF. Even Moyes used him for decent jobs, particularly against Bayern Munich in two legs, playing against Ribery and Robben from RB and LB at OT. Then against Ribery again in Munich, if my memory serves well. But since Gaal, his case has got worse. Shaw was bought by Gaal but we have never enjoyed him. He came first with obesity, then a long injury, followed by another lack of physical fitness, then injury again. Rojo came too with injury. Bailly seems not left out of the curse. |
chrisley024:Assuming everyone is starting on a clean slate, how can one suggest that the defnder who got the highest rating be sold? Lingard, Martial, Herrera and Pogba were the only players rated higher than Jones on whoscored. The other time people were suggesting Matic, Young, Jones, Valencia, Lukaku, Fellaini etc to be sold. I was just laughing because such has become the way since Moyes time. Why not let the new coach try out the players first. Look at Matic, a friend who wanted him sold told me that Matic did not make a single back pass against Cardiff, so he has now change of mind. I am just watching this new era to see how it unfold. I don't yet know who should be sold. I don't dislike any player. |
Even the commentator said it at the beginning of the match, that Oleg playing Jones on the left and Linderlof (who has been playing regularly) on the right tells what the coach thinks of the ability of Jones. Going back, this has been the case since Van Gaal. Jones and Smalling, Jones on the less comfortable left. I think it was same with McNair. |
ChristineC:He will not be sold. Starting him on the left of the central defence with two right footed CDs means the coach thinks he is better than the other CD. Same thing other coaches have done with him when paired with the other right footed denfeders- Bailly, Smalling and Lindelof. Moreover, he was excellent against Cardiff in the start of the new era. He only needs to keep fit to improve his relationship with the ball. I mean ball use and timing of the ball. That can only come with regular games. Rememeber this guy is a RCB but the last time he played that role was when he was paired with Rojo two seasons ago. |
Speaking to reporters after the game, Matic said of the Norwegian: "He is only two days with us but we had a few meetings. He said we need to play more forward, to be more dangerous in attack, to run more, to compete with everything and that's exactly what we did today and we are happy because of that." |
afrodoc2:Messi has largely underperformed in the world cup when put in perspective of his club's performance. Messi has underperformed in the world cup when compared to Mbappe, and some other players. Even Kane scored in one world cup all the goals Messi has been scoring for decades in the world cup Messi would not be said to have underperformed in the world cup when compared to Rooney and Ahmed Musa. The conclusion therefore is that Messi cannot replicate his form when taken from world class team mates. |
afrodoc2:He has underperformed. Mbappe has already outperformed him. |
eph12:Na wetin you dey find you get. When put in perspective of his club performance, Messi has largely underperformed in the world cup. U no know book |

patrickmuf:Until he plays from the start when score line is leveled or slim. |
patrickmuf:I saw the game. He and Fellaini came in at 86 minutes after Cardiff had been dismantled. He made three passes. One of them he was doing leg over and while almost lost balance, quickly made a pass. At that time there was plenty of hole in Cardiff defence. You cannot judge a player that way. |
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got the players smiling, according to Rooney Wayne Rooney says former Manchester United colleagues confided in him about how the relationship between players and staff wasn't great in Jose Mourinho's final days at the club. United's all-time leading goalscorer was at the club for 13 seasons before securing a move to MLS side DC United, and confessed he stays in touch with quite a lot people at the Red Devils. Speaking on BT Sport prior to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game in charge of United, Rooney believes the club's decision to sack Mourinho was the right one. "Yeah something had to change and I think it was the right decision," Rooney said. "Obviously the club have given Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] the job until the end of the season and see how it does while they search for a new manager and try and make sure they get the right manager this time." When asked if he's been in touch with anyone at the club, Rooney replied: "Yeh of course I stay in touch with a lot people at the club and speak to them quite a lot, certainly this week. "To be a successful football club you need everything to be right. You need the staff at the training ground to be right, the groundsman, whoever that is, they need to feel happy and that rubs off on the players. "And I think that relationship between some of the staff and some of the players wasn't great. "But I think bringing Ole in, Mick Phelan in that will change. That already has changed. "They're smiling, they're happy and that rubs off on the players. I think it's a good move for the club while it gives them a bit more time to make sure they get the right manager in place in the summer and it's fascinating to see how Ole sets the team up and how they respond. "They have to respond positively with a victory today." https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/wayne-rooney-reveals-what-former-13768954 |
Phil Jones 94.8% pass accuracy. The highest among the starters 8 aerial duels won. The next was Luke Shaw 4 58 passes 5 long balls with 100% accuracy 1/1 shot on target 2 tackles 2 interceptions. The highest 6 clearances. The highest |
The coach went for centre defenders who can pass best. One major difference is that our passes were faster As time went on, they players got more creative with the quick passes. Things were done high up the field. Jones showed leadership in the defence. Matic was a different player today, he was not slow. He passed forward and creatively. It made it looked like the players were even tired of Mourinho, because Pogba willingly took up some defensive responsibilities. It is a perfect start for Oleg. |
patrickmuf:Only one ball we he touch dey dance and almost lost it? |
eph12:But we don't count if for Pele. Yet people would want to compare Messi with the great Pele who was scoring in world cup semi and finals to win world cup for Brazil. Messi has failed Argentina in the world cup and Copa America. Chikena. You no know ball. |
eph12:If he scored that 1 vs 1 with the keeper in the final, Argentina could have won the world cup. |
eph12:I didn’t say he underperformed. I said he has not been able to replicate his form for national team as he does for Barca, particularly in cup finals. |
eph12:If football is all about goals, Modric would not have won best player of the world cup and other awards. |
eph12:He has not got them through finals. It was you who brought the matches before the final. So I followed you there. But Messi and Ronaldo must score in UCL finals for clubs |
eph12:Football is not only about goals and Assists. Messi is not able to replicate his Barca form for national team due to the difference in quality of player. Simple. It was same with Giggs, Weah, and many others. Mbappe has already carried his team more than Messi and Bale. Team mates matter. |
eph12:Your argument about Messi is too weak and inferior to stand. |
eph12:We did not have the quality of City players and depth of the team to start with. Have you thought why every big player that has come since 2015 has flopped? Di Maria, Falcao, etc. Even up coming players like Mephis De Pay? We do not have Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand and Carrick to start smoothly from the back. Then coupled with inexperienced forwards. As for Messi, I have said what I have to say. Messi and Ronaldo will never be able to do what they did for club in the National team due to quality of players discrepancy. |
