Fact that United's always attracts so much attention just goes to show how rare the occurrence is, which means the team is really good.

United have won this trophy 3 consecutive times. . .winning it a 4th time should make other teams go hang their heads in shame.
Fact that they are so excited about United stumbling goes to show how much of a threat they consider us.

Vatican to bishops: follow law, report intimacy abuse

VATICAN CITY – The Vatican on Monday made clear for the first time that bishops and other church officials should report clerical intimacy abuse to police if required by law. But the policy failed to satisfy victims who charge that the church deliberately hid abuse for decades.
Victims, government inquiries and grand juries have all charged that the Catholic Church created what amounted to a conspiracy to cover up abuse by keeping allegations that priests despoiled and molested children secret and not reporting them to civil authorities.

The Vatican has insisted that it has long been the Catholic Church's policy for bishops, like all Christians, to obey civil reporting laws. In a new guide for lay readers posted on its Web site, the Vatican explicitly spells out such a policy.

"Civil law concerning reporting of crimes to the appropriate authorities should always be followed," the Vatican guidelines said.
That phrase was not included in a draft of the guidelines obtained Friday by The Associated Press. The rest of the guidelines follow previously known and public procedures for handling canonical investigations and trials of priests suspected of abuse.
The Vatican offered no explanation for the addition.
Victims were not impressed.
"Let's keep this in perspective: it's one sentence and it's virtually nothing unless and until we see tangible signs that bishops are responding," said Joelle Casteix, western regional director for SNAP, the Survivors Network for Those Abused by Priests, the main victims' group in the U.S. "One sentence can't immediately reverse centuries of self-serving secrecy."

She said if the Vatican truly wanted to change course "it would be far more effective to fire or demote bishops who have clearly endangered kids and enabled abuse and hid crimes, than to add one sentence to a policy that is rarely followed with consistency."

None of the core public Vatican documents to be applied in cases of abuse direct bishops to report cases to police. Nor does canon law make such an explicit requirement.
Jeffrey Lena, the Vatican's U.S. lawyer, said a 1965 document from the Second Vatican Council, Gaudium et Spes, contained an implicit understanding of the need to follow civil laws that are just.
The vague citation, however, is not nearly as explicit as what is contained in the lay guide.
"It's beyond dispute that the canon law does not mandate non-reporting," Lena said. "These guidelines may help clarify that point for people who are less familiar with canon law."
"The statement confirms what has been long known, that where the civil state creates an obligation to report, bishops like anyone else are required to examine the law and determine what they have to do to obey it," Lena told the AP.
In 2002, after the clerical abuse scandal erupted in the United States, American bishops enacted reforms, which the Vatican made church law for the U.S., that do not specifically order all bishops to notify civil authorities of new claims. Instead, the U.S. policy instructs bishops to comply with state laws for reporting abuse, and to cooperate with authorities. All U.S. dioceses were also instructed to advise victims of their right to contact authorities themselves.
The Rev. Davide Cito, a canon lawyer at Rome's Santa Croce University, called the publication of the universal church policy in the lay guidelines "an important development."
"I'm very pleased," he said. "A Christian also has to follow civil laws. It's a Christian duty."

A Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini, said the reporting requirement had been the internal policy of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith since 2003. The Vatican in 2001 shifted its policy on dealing with abuse cases, ordering bishops around the world to refer all cases to the Congregation, which then decides how to proceed. Previously, diocese themselves dealt with most of the cases on their own.

Asked how bishops were supposed to know of this internal policy on reporting to police, Benedettini declined to comment.

Pope Benedict XVI had told Irish bishops last month that they should cooperate with civil authorities in investigating abuse. But the guidelines mark the first time that such procedures for the church at large, in which bishops are explicitly told they should follow civil reporting laws, have been laid out publicly.

I disagree eldee, if Wilshere can become a first teamer at Bolton, then Vela will not only survive but thrive in any mid table to lower PL team, Vela can not only play but can also hustle, yu guys definitely haven't been watching him play for Mexico. He just hasn't settled into our first team picture yet for whatever reason.
There wasn't injury to every other striker as Eduardo was available, after we dropped points at Sunderland with Eduardo leading the line, I think Arsene just wasn't confident enough to play him then with our PL charge hanging in the balance.
Vela is a hustler?? Well . . . maybe I need to start watching more Mexico matches.
You know the typical EPL striker, and you know it's not Vela.

Are you having a laugh?? How can you say we didn't lose all our strikers?? Eduardo?? Come on.
Wenger comes out from time to time to remind us that Dudu is not yet mentally back.

My question is, what better chance will he have than this season??
Remember he's in the same age bracket as Bendtner and Walcott?? Both of them have aspirations of leading Arsenal's line if they ever get better.
I don't know if he should leave, but what I do know is that he's lost a career changing opportunity this season. . . especially for a team like Arsenal where young players are treated as pros.

@duduspace

Salamanca is not Bolton or Stoke . . . the English game is different.
You have to be extremely hardworking to be a Burnley striker . . .Vela is not.
The aerial presence is lacking and his pace is not up to EPL requirement for a striker in those teams.

Of course he'll be a star in the La Liga, but you seem to forget too soon that there's a wide margin between the two in the way we play(attack and defence) . . .
Arsenal is different, we could have Vela floating in the box and he gets the last of 25 passes and scores, Bolton don't do that, they cross and you beat the defender or they throw a long pass and you outpace everyone.
And those passes don't even come all to often. . . a few matches and questions start pouring in.

You can be the star of your U-17 and not make it in England . . . Sinama Pongolle, Owusu Abeyie were both youth team stars jare.
And don't say he didn't get his chance, he got it when Cisse got injured and lost it.

Every team does that, but I've not seen a better chance than injury to the every other striker in the team.
Of course, I know he will get other chances, but he's missed his biggest one.

@Debosky

What exactly do you think Vela can bring to a Burnley or a Bolton??
These clubs are efficiency-driven where a Fuller has to give his best all the time and work with a specific formula.

They work with either physical strikers with heavy box-presence or just the short, extremely fast striker.
Both ways, Vela fails. . . the only club in England that plays that way is Arsenal.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by eldee(op): 5:16pm On Apr 11, 2010

As to that portion in bold, you should know by now how Arsene sets his team out from Pre-season (which Vela unfortunately miss out on due to injury and international commitments), once he has set the order of players at the beginning of the season, its going to take a major mess up from his first choice for him to make a change. Bendtner got his chance only because it became obvious Eduardo/Arshavin werent working out.
I'm expectant of what Vela can do because of some of his performances I've seen for us last season and for Mexico, Form is temporary but class is permanent, there is a reason that boy won MVP at U17 level as a 15 year old.
That's your story . . . I'm not sure bout that, I would point out Gilberto, but he wasn't 21.
Are you saying losing Van P and Bendtner wasn't a major mess-up?? Come on, that doesn't hold water.
Wenger chose to play Arshavin out of poisition than to play Vela . . . if Vela had proven himself in training, I don't see the reason why lack of pre-season matches would have prevented him.

Nah, Bendtner got his chance last season, and he used it.
Vela has the same responsibility Bendtner had last season and he's misused it . . . it's that simple.

I'm not the best talent scout, I work with what I see in Arsenal, he's not yet EPL quality to me and with Chamack and Van Persie coming back, this season was going to be his best chance to prove himself, and he's lost it.
