DBR:I like the lines . . . it's one of my favourite, full stop. Now why do I like these lines?? Because of the way he presented it in in-rhymes and multies. The thread is not favourite wordplay or favourite metaphors, its favourite lines, this happens to be one of my favourite set of lines. It's a subjective thing, and I gave my reason for liking it. Why do you have a problem with that ![]() ![]() ??M.I has the best delivery in Nigerian hiphop . . . it's not a subjective thing, it's a fact. He's proven it on thousands of occasions on millions of beats. If you need to argue, open a new thread, bring the other artiste's discography, I'll drop M.I's. And you'll show me how anyone raped a beat like M.I. DBR:I'm talking to you because I find it demeaning to argue with Ofoka. But chill, you actually agreed with him?? It's okay to you when someone says something as farfetched as 'Contradiction is Africa's best hiphop track ever' But you think M.I's overrated?? |
DBR:You forgot that I started this thread in the first place ![]() I said . . . post any lines you like, it doesn't have to be metaphorical and all that . . . Off the top of me head, my first post had . . . You wan try me ehn You wan try your father . . . when I finish with you you go know say khaki no be leather - 2shot Does the fact that they're everyday lines mean they're not line?? or they can't be my favourite?? javalove:M.I doesn't need to prove he can play with words . . . he's done too many He only needs to prove that he can do what Modenine can't, kill beats, have the best delivery in Naija hiphop. He did that with 123 Hiphop, Anoti, Short Black Boy. Mode one the other hand overly tries to sound smart. 'You got lemon and torch, I got the limelight' How daft is that?? It's just like me coming here to claim I can speak English and dropping Latin words ![]() |
dyabman:You want to beat me?? Can LL Cool J wear cornrows?? Can Pope Benedict wear skinny jeans?? Can Osama win Oscars?? ![]() |
DBR:That's the problem with NLers, all what you're impressed with is wordplay and metaphors. To you, multies and flow don't exist. There are many times when the best rappers just need to express their ability to rip a beat. What exactly is wrong with that?? Those lines I posted are okay everyday lines that have been masterfully presented with in-rhymes and multies on a beat. What's stopping us from appreciating that aspect of hiphop?? This is exactly the same thing that happens in live freestyle battles where wordplays are forgotten because they're not easy to spot. You missed the word 'favourite' . . . Here I was thinking 'favourite' gave me the right to choose what tool of emceeing I want to appreciate. Okay lines . . .sick muti-syllabic, internal rhyming= my favourite on this post. |
mukina2:Why're you laughing?? It's going to be a tough match when Chamo FC faces Average United ![]() |
I played Mr Average last week . . . With people like Chamotex in the league, average is just another free three points ![]() That's six points for everyone when you play average and Chamotex FC ![]() |
DBR:That's the thing . . . NL does not do justice to delvery and flow. If I posted Alphabetical Slaughter's lyrics on NL, you'll say anyone with a dictionary could have done that. But when you listen to the song and see how hard it was to do that while still masterfully controlling the beat. (G!) Gambles gathering grants, grabbing gauges, gangsta ganks geeks Getting green, Guess garments gleaming, greatly gaining G's - Alphabetical Slaughter That looks like sum guy just lifting words of a dictionary . . . but then listen to the song. Anyone with a rhyme dictionary could have done what M.I did over there, but only a true emcee could ever form it into bars, pay homage to the rhyme scheme, pass across his point and still murk the beat. No Nigerian rapper does it like M.I. The Warcraft State of Mind will be a Valentine's Day Massacre ![]() |
aldon:As usual, prove me wrong. ![]() Is it me or does each and every of my posts go controversial?? |
World Town - M.I.A |
Rhymstein:Stop stalking me ![]() It's the flow I emphasized . . . the day Modenine's flow reaches that level, I'll do sumn I've never done before in my entire life. I won't have sex for one full week ![]() |
We all talk like there wasn't a time when there was no online fraud and armed robbery. Weren't you guys around when it used to be cool to be broke and contented?? I remember the times when Tales By Moonlight stories emphasized these values every Sunday evening. These where the things our parents taught us every day . . . we all know the story of the hardworking farmer that kept working till he struck a bag of gold. These were the values we grew up with . . . our problem is not the fact that we got poorer, it's more of the fact that we started to find the quickest and most evil ways to make money. There was once a time that integrity was at least worth something . . . but nah, it's now a case of how much do you own. Now if we can't change the Babangidas and them people, the least we could do is to try to change the youth. We can at least attempt to make them remember that a man is dead when he's lost his self respect. Will this song change things?? I don't think so . . . But will it help?? Definitely If every part of our lives drop a little of these seeds in us, we might change quicker than you think. |
@HNIC Come on . . . no one has ever praised Wenger this year. Aiite, maybe Debosky. We were on top knowing it was a great performance from Song and that was all. Half the gunners on this thread lost faith in Wenger at the end of last season. I grew up in the 'Wenger knows', 'Fergie is a god' era . . . I believe the coach knows his team more than anyone else . . . and rather than coming out and trying to coach the team from my bedroom like MOTD analysts, I'd rather we hired someone that do what he's there for. That's the only reason why I want Wenger gone. And I said this before the season started. . . staying on top for two days didn't change anyone's mind. |
There's one short black boy from the the city called J Always knew he he was gonna rap his own way No matter what the haters or critics say He know he will cus when there's a will there's a way He wrote the Crowd Mentality reality with quality And no formality can silence his originality With no profanity or vanity but sanity and music for humanity he's gonna take the planet he He's just a short black boy M.I - Short Black Boy There are a few Nigerian rappers that are better at internal rhyming and multies than M.I. Problem is, they've not been born yet. ![]() So from the year 2G and forever, M.I rules. |
I'm d future, d past n d present, i flow in-tense -- M.I
That's one thing I feel about M.I. The way he doesn't announce his wordplay . . . I wouldn't have spotted this if you didn't highlight it. |
@Eldee A different coach with that same team may have gotten a different result. Arsene is more like a cadaver these days! I see a helpless and distraught man on the touchline these days as a matter of fact i see a Yaradua who is unable to inspire his team to victory in big clashes either with tactics or motivation. His sucking up to the board simply tells me he doesn't know his onions! A Rijkaard, Mourinho would not take such B.S! He has mortgaged his integrity for job security and it would land him in trouble when the fans turn on him and the board
He's just another proud Frenchman. . . every fortnight, there are 68,000 potential who know what to do to at least make a change. He really did mortgage his integrity.
FYI Mode 9 and wait for this M.I are actually Gunners so peep Jigga, M.I, Mode 9 flowing on a Kanye West or NO ID beat with Rihanna singing the hook and Spike Lee (another gunner) shooting the video. That should pick a Grammy or two next year
Modenine can give him a Deathblow style verse . . . 'see him head like a guinea pig . . . wowo face, whiskers like rat' . . .oh shit, that's Nas. ![]() M.I?? Spike Lee?? whoa!!! we could name the song 'Trophyless State of Mind' ![]() |
Hmmn . . . our group is gaining grounds ![]() Dr Kit - June 2007 Nightrider - April 2008 Eldee - October 2009 A-40 - February 2010 Kay_pumpin - February 2010 Debosky?? ![]() |
@Eldee I think its more of Wenger than the board, But its funny sha Ivan Gazidis that was talking a good one earlier seems to have gone David Copperfield/Yaradua on us. Can we blame the board for signings like Silvestre and Campbell? Can we blame the board for our utterly predictable pattern, for the uncanny ability to fold under pressure, the lack of zeal to win e.t.c abeg lets start booking studio sessions for that F. . Wenger (Hit the road Arsene) track? Timbaland, Just Blaze & Swizz Beatz are too expensive but i've got Terry G on speed dial
Yeah . . . partly. If Wenger really has money like Hillwood claims, Wenger won't be forced to sign washed-up players. My hypothesis . . . Wenger tells them they can depend on the youth system, they go out and lie that they've got money. My point is one of em has to go . . . If a rich moneybag comes in . . . he'll threaten Wenger to sign the right players, he loses, he's out. If a Mourinho comes in . . . he'll have the put a blank transfer cheque as one of his contract terms ![]() We can beg Jigga for the track man . . . he's an gunner ![]() |
One Tree Hill - Season 3 ![]() |
chiogo:Oh shit, you just controlled me again. I didn't want to read your post, but you controlled me to read it. WOW!!! I think I'll try this abracadabra triangle diamond sign . . . I must get into this Freemansions ![]() |
Genuflect:Yeah exactly the same way GT the Guitarman and Lara George got famous?? |
@Eldee I should be the head honcho! The Big Kahuna of that camp. . . 'Arsene Knows Not' this has been ma stance from time immemorial come on every Tom, D/i/c/k and Ifeanyi on this thread knows i am one of Arsene's biggest critics on this forum even last year i put up a poll asking if Wenger should get the boot if we get a 4th fruitless season. His project has been a failure and by the time we end up like Ajax it would be too late!! Our problem is Managerial! If the board are adamant on him staying let him go to the front office while we get someone who is ready to win! 3 league titles and 4 F.A cups in 14 years is a poor poor record. This man has forgotten how to win! And when you look at our last 4 games against Chelsea & Man U. Its easy to see just how low we have sunk! If the ref ordered a replay tomorrow we would still get an a$$whooping
I think the problem is more from the board that Wenger. A manager like Mourinho will come out and tell us if he doesn't have any money to spend. Wenger and the board have gone gaga in this bad romance. . . there's a limit to what a manager can do with a crap team. debosky:Hehehe . . . don't be shocked if he gets the boot at the end of the season. ![]() |
Genuflect:That's why I said empirical . . . I'm not judging solely, I'm using it as a simple reference. I don't live in Nigeria but I watch Nigerian TV and listen to a few Nigerian stations and step in every now and then . . . and I'm 101% sure that Nneka's fame went through the roof after she got famous in the Western world. I don't need you to believe me, why don't you want to agree with her?? chiogo:Hehehe . . . come on. I tried to escape but they came to drag me . . . now I've got five arguments on my head ![]() |
chiogo:Hehehehehe . . . you got me laughing and coughing at the same time. ![]() WOW . . . is that one of the messages you put in that post?? Shit . . . what other subliming messages do you have?? ![]() |
Genuflect:The only reason why most Nigerians claim her is because of her fame in the Western world . . . empirical evidence?? number of posts on Nneka since she appeared on David Letterman show. Now there might be exceptions . . .but that's all they'll ever be, exceptions. |
chiogo:Hmmn . . . I can't see your light because I've not been illuminated by the Freemansions people ![]() Infact, I cannot keep reading your post as you might decide to send subliming messages that can control my brain ![]() |
Genuflect:I went on to say you don't need to be a good vocalist or flowist to be a good artiste. I mentioned Bob Marley and Floetry who built legendary careers off their lyrical depth without being great vocalists. Genuflect:So you now know that the reviews help in skyrocketting her fame in Nigeria?? So what exactly is your beef with my post?? |
@A-40 Hehehe . . . so yo have decided to join us?? ![]() Are you leaving the 'Wenger Knows' camp?? Are you tired of the yearly . . . we're looking at a couple of players B.S Dr Kit - June 2007 Nightrider - April 2008 Eldee - October 2009 A-40 - February 2010 Debosky?? |
chiogo:AHHHHH!!!! I'm sorry but you've been inducted into the Freemansions . . . infact you're illuminating already ![]() |
Genuflect:Yeah right . . . whether you like it or not, winning a MOBO, being on FIFA's soundtrack, getting on the same stage with Jay-Z and other legends and getting massive reviews from critics affects the way most people percieve her. I thought five minutes ago you said it doesn't matter 'who people rate higher' when choosing who they prefer?? Dude . . . you're standing on a weak foot here. |
Genuflect:You know what, I won't argue about you own case, it's quite subjective. That's why I used plausibility. Because if I ask you, you'll say the fact that she's internationally acclaimed didn't affect the the way you like her. But why don't we at least listen to the artist herself?? At least she's the one that has been studying the trends of her acceptance since 2005. She said it herself that her popularity in Nigeria only started after she already won a MOBO in 2009. Infact personally, I only knew her back then because a couple of my white friends that are into underground ish recommended her songs . . . they didn't even know she was Nigerian . . . to them, she was German. |
Genuflect:Come on . . . plausibility. Out of all the people you've seen WOW!!! You heard her on a radio ad in the UK?? And it never occurred to you that this ad was could have been part of the 'all of which appeal more to the West'?? So what if MOBO isn't American?? Is Amy Winehouse from America?? Didn't the Grammys get her more recognition in the UK?? Come on man . . . are you sure you've not being hanging out with those Illuminati people?? ![]() |
@Hax I'm not going to go into an argument over who's better or what album should be topping the charts. I know people that will never listen to 90's rap because they'll rather listen to music from the 80's like GMFs, and the Afrika Bambaataas. Why?? They think the feel was missing and they didn't like the new concept. That's what y'all don't get . . . music is subjective and there comes a time it needs to move on as society progresses. Society has moved on from watching people talk about how many shots got aimed at them in their youth. It was interesting before, with Dre and Pac only because it was new. American Gangster was a result of something we've been hearing for decades. That's Jay-Z's strongest point . . . but he, like every other smart great knows when to move on. That's the only way to keep hiphop music relevant to the music fans and most of all, the next generation. Hiphop is not getting more conscious, she's moving more towards Alternative hiphop. Kanye virtually gave hiphop a CPR with his Graduation album . . . sales were dead, and believe me . . . without hiphop in the mainstream, it'll eventually disappear from the underground. Personally I think I'll pick Kanye's College Dropout, Late Registration and J. Cole's The Come Up above other albums of the last decade. And I see why they'll kill Jay-Z in a genre that's so comfortably theirs. Blueprint 3 was sending a message to the rappers of the 90s . . . that you can switch from the whole gangster thing. Jay-Z is the most influential rapper of our time . . . his gentleman rapper dream started since he became CEO of Def Jam. I don't know which is better, but I think I prefer modern hiphop because it's themes apply to me. |
