I am also experiencing same. It seems graduate school and dating don't seem to go very well together. Here are some of the places I've tried maybe they will work for you.
The gym- suggested to me by one of my friends. I have been a member for 1 year now. I go 2-3 days a week. I have made 3 female friends and 0 male ones. I think I spoke 5 words to the male gym attendant last week so that's a step in the right direction.
Game rooms: You know, those places with pool tables, foosball and table tennis. I heard its a good place to meet guys and start friendships. Whenever I remember that I have another life goal to accomplish other than graduating, I watch a few YouTube videos on how to play these games, then get dressed and go. So far, I have succeeded in establishing a parasitic friendship with the stray cat that hangs around there. My case is not completely hopeless you see. |

Barkanmu da yamma!
I need help!
I'm so glad I found this topic. I just got invited to an interview for a job that I applied for based on the fact that I can speak Hausa. The problem though is that my Hausa is not the best. I am from kaduna but grew up in Lagos, so I can only speak my dialect (kagoro). I am going to be interviewed wholly in Hausa so I need to practice my spoken Hausa. However I am in the US so it is tough to find other Hausa speakers to practice with. Please if anyone is willing to practice with me while correcting me, send me an email talk2katz @ yahoo .com. I will be very grateful! I will be making all the calls so it is no cost to you. Infact, ban damu na biya kudi ba.
I hope to hear from you guys! |

Everfrank: Take your search further and you shall find him if he is alive. If he isn't you can still locate your siblings and family. His surname confirms he is a riverine Rivers Ijaw man of Kalahari extraction. The KURO is a suffix used to form a compound name like Tamunokuro, Woyinkuro etc. among the core Kalabaris. Narrow down your search to the core Kalabari areas of Buguma, Degema, Abonnema and surrounding areas. I suggest you circulate your case and the picture to the several "kalabari" "Buguma" "Abonnema" "Degema" groups on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and other social media. You need to be accepted into these groups though. That means you need to create your accounts in each of these social media then request to join these groups.
NB I am sorry to say that the Kalabaris are highly tribalistic and prideful and as such you may not be accepted into such groups with your surname Sarki. If so you may need to create accounts with neutral Christian names. Zaki Iya amfani da suna irin nasu ma. Kuma kiyi hankali akwai 'yan damfara sosai a dandalinnan. TooNoisy: I will say it again, marriage by itself is discriminatory. If you do not want to discriminate then you will marry the first person you meet. We are not talking about discriminating for a job position or a sports competition, we are talking about who you will spend the rest of your life with. You sure have to discriminate.
I will say if you meet a guy or a lady that is from a broken home please do a bit more research and find out the cause of the divorce and house your bf/gf sees it If he/she is still very bitter and hates a father, and even wishes the father evil, then be careful. The bad thing about very bitter divorce cases is that the kids are told so much nonsense by the two parents in order to make the other look like the devil.
I did not say one shouldn't marry from a broken home, all I said was do more research before you go ahead and make sure that person you want to marry has not been brain washed. 60% of what we learn about marriage is what we observed from our parents marriage. If that marriage was Sooo bad then that person has a little more to learn.
Even research has shown that children from broken homes are more likely to get divorced. It's just a statistic but it tells you something.
For those saying most married people are liars who are living like strangers. I say that is a lie. How many have you seen? There will always be challenges in marriage so the fact that a marriage is going through a challenge does not mean they hate each other. The couple just believe they can together overcome the challenge and most times they do. Some of the points you have discussed are not exclusive to people from divorced parents. - everyone should research their future spouse whether or not the person is from a broken hone. - married couple bad mouth their spouses to the kids all the time. This is not an exclusive to divorced parents As many people have mentioned, a couple sticking together does not mean their marriage/home is a healthy environment for children. I think the most important thing is to treat everyone as the individual they are and assume stuff about them based on their parent's marriage status. |

FemiFaniKayode: hey which flights are you talking abt first now on ur local flights in Nigeria if u can afford to buy an airplane ticket for at least 10kNGN why should you have a problem turning down that puff puff and all those tins they put in der if u arent hungry at the time it was offered? if u are poor dont get on a plane if u are hungry eat on the plane if u can afford to get onboard one It was antoinne that said that people who take food out of planes are hungry and cannot afford to buy food. I was directing my question at him since he believes that someone who paid for a flight cannot afford food. Chai! Poor people have suffered in this world. If I am poor I should not get on a plane?Which text book are you getting all these rules and regulations from biko? |

Antoinne: Poverty is no excuse for lack of refinement. Dignity, dignity please. You said in many of your posts that people taking put food are hungry. Right? People taking out food don't have money to buy food. Abi? So I'm too poor to buy food and I take out food I was given, that belongs to me, to eat later. How is that not dignified? Would you rather I go and steal? Would you rather I come and beg you? |
Travel › Re: Taking Food Out Of Airplanes by elektra(f): 1:19am On Jun 26, 2015 |
Antoinne,
You keep saying people that take out food are hungry. SO? Since when is it a sin to be hungry? Since when is it "uncultured" to be hungry?
So I took food out of a plane because I could not afford to buy one where I'm heading. So freaking what? Is it a crime to be poor?
You point at other people's struggles and ridicule it, not because they hurt someone but because they are trying to feed? I honestly think that a mentality like yours is true poverty. |

Lovat. Your write-up is seriously flawed! Freecocoa and the rest are correcting you but you no wan hear. Nothing a woman does should warrant her rape. Nothing at all. Indecent dressing? What about Muslim women(with their burkas) that are raped? The children nko? We should start dressing our kids in complete overalls abi? Don't walk in the dark-women that are raped in broad day light nko? The best way to reduce rape is to educate the MEN! Especially men like You, lovat! Educate men to lear to control themselves! Educate men not to blame the woman for their lack of self control! Also, studies have shown that rape is more about power than konji. |

I started boys over flowers but I found it boring. Maybe because I've watched Heirs, which was my first kdrama. I dreamt of Lee Min Ho for weeks after that drama. 1. Welcomes the child into womanhood. Same for guys.
2. Gives her respect as a woman in her society.
3. She is allowed to speak in matters affecting the community she is in.
4. Some women says it beautifies the female genitals.
5. She is allowed a woman's share of inheritance in her family. If not circumcised she will still be given a share but as a girl and not a grown woman
6. She is married off with respect and the full support and backing of her kinspeople.they will always look out for her in the marriage.
Cultural wise, it was a part of a people's identity and maybe shouldn't have been swept underfoot just like that. They should have made it better, safer, less traumatizing, and more humane for those who practice it. Thank you for outlining the benefits. However, none of these 'benefits' will enhance a woman's life in the society we are now in. So why keep the practice alive? If a cultural practice is not contributing positively a society do they keep it alive just because it is cultural? |
