bobolathefirst: Hmmm...can't someone write this assessment for someone...just saying o
There will be a verification test taken at their office in Lagos. So those that got someone to write for them will likely be eliminated at that stage.

FamilyRe: Are You Sending Your Housemaids To School? by elektra(f): 5:31pm On Nov 09, 2013
My mum was one of four househelps in one of her relative's house. She started after primary school. They were the first to wake up and the last to sleep. They worked their asses off in that house and the madam was very strict.

But they were all sent to school, up till university level.

Today my mother is the only one of her 5 siblings with a job, all the others live in the village doing nothing but consume alcohol. She is single handedly responsible for her siblings and their children

My mother is always grateful for the 'Opportunity' she had to be someone else's housegirl because she knows that her story would have been different if she had stayed with her parents.

We also had two helps growing up, they were sent to school and today have jobs and are on their own.

See, many of you shouting 'child slavery' do not know the kind of house these househelps come from. If at least they are being sent to school they are working towards a better future

I have been following this thread. I even made the yellow dress, but I used linen because I an an absolute beginner and did not want to ruin any expensive fabric.
A big thank you to Onnari and Efosa. I have learnt soooo much. God bless you two. Please do not be discouraged.
I will be joining in on making the jacket as soon as I get my fabric.

RomanceRe: Your Breakup Experiences With Someone You Really Loved?? by elektra(f): 4:03pm On Sep 19, 2013
Chaleeee: I used to date this girl in 2008. She can be said to the the most beautiful lady I ever dated. She was head ove heels in love with me. I know this because back then I was a fresh graduate with no job and money wasn't coming from home anymore and she has very rich parents. I mean the father has a whole road named after him in the tushed part of Lagos Island.
I know she loved me because of ythe way she respects me and was always wanting to see me.

In my house she was accepted though my brothers were suspicious, my father was really fond ofher and all. Issues started when I got a job in Lagos. She complains I close late, I don't have time and I always took the pain to explain to her (I totally hate nagging. I would rather sleep on the street than ssleep onthe same bed with a nagging woman)

One day she called me up and told to meet her in a restaurant on Allen Ave. I saw her park this new Mistibushi SUV behind my car. When I asked her what happened to her car, she said he boyfriend just got her the new Mistibushi and she won't be seeing me anymore. I tried to act mature. We ate and we went our separate ways. I felt bad for weeks. Though I still kept intouch, ibegged her repeatedly to come backto me. Whenever my dad asks after he, I always lied that she's out of the country.

The whole experience made me loose faith the in woman gender and all. I've dated over 6 girls since then but that was the most painful of mybreakups because she said I didn't do anything wrong but she has to move on. I guess it was the money. Imbetter off now though. *winks*
Me sef don buy muscle camry. Don't relent. Hustle pays.
Someone that was calling you and complaining that you do not have time for her and when she breaks up with you, you now came to the logical conclusion that it was because you did not have money.

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by elektra(f): 3:58pm On Jul 31, 2012
Hello house! My visa was granted yesterday at Lagos by VO 2. My interview was short and none of my documents were reviewed.

VO: Good morning can i have you documents?
Me: I handed them over to him
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: For undergraduate studies
VO: Undergraduate studies huh
Me: Yes
VO: What school did you apply to?
ME: XYZ UNIVERSITY
VO: You say you are going for Undergraduate studies?
Me: Yes. I have a three year degree from xyz university, i had applied for postgraduate studies but I was advised by the school to transfer my credit to undergraduate and top up to a four year degree before moving on to masters studies.
VO: What course are you going for?
Me: Biomedical science
VO: Tell me about it
Me: The course is designed to give the student a very good foundation in the biology of the body amongst other things, it also has and undergraduate research program that allows me to participate in a research lab of my choice
Vo: Typing quickly
Me: Praying inwardly
Vo: Tore the green ticket, held it and asked "Tell me about you three year program"
Me: I studied biotechnology, it gave me a very good understanding of the application of living things to ethical and social purposes. and so on
Vo: OK, we are going to issue. Pick up you visa on Thursday.

Let me just point out that even if you are on the older side you can go for undergrad studies if you can explain what you have been doing. Also, you do not have to wait for the VO to ask you some specific questions in order to answer, If you feel the need to thoroughly explain please do so. Another important thing, just spake clean and correct English in you usual accent no need to start forming accent for the white VOs they live in Nigeria, they know how Nigerians talk. And most importantly, PRAY! and have FAITH! I was scared cos my i 20 had said my course duration was 4 years but i knew my course duration was much lass since i was only going upgrade my undergrad and move to Masters so i wrote the correct length of studies in my ds 160 form. I prayed to God that the VO would be blind to this irregularity and God answered. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this thread. Best of luck to everyone that is yet to go for the interview

I am applying for undergrad. I was also tempted to use d expiring one. My passport expires october. I was told the embassy cannot issue a 2 year visa on a passport expiring in 2 months.

Can someone in the house verify this?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by elektra(f): 12:41pm On May 16, 2012
@ leadzeal

Have you started your application process with your present passport?
I have already sent my expiring passport photocopy to the school for I-20 generation. I hope getting a new passport will not make the I-20 invalid. I was told that all i have to do is take d cancelled passport and new passport to the embassy for the interview.

House, please advice.

@leadzeal

I do not know if Lagos re issues. I am sure abuja does. You'll have to enquire.
Yes, you can be in possession of the cancelled passport, but it will not be useful for anything.
I know someone that got re issued another one in abuja, paid 25k and got it in a week. I will apply for my re issue within this week.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by elektra(f): 10:13pm On May 15, 2012
Leadzeal
You can ask for a re issue.
They will cancel your present passport(without prejudice) and issue a new one with new passport number.
Go to immigration and explain to them, i also have this issue.
