Too much competitions in the UK yu know!!!have been nearly on every websites but still no replied from this companies, Hw did yu come about the financial analyst ?Yu must have wrked very hard 2 get d job? What uni did yu finished frm?96000 is what us bois spend on drinks in jand now
Abeg don't deceive yourself! lol. Anyway that is the highest I have heard ever for entry level and it most probably is not even true. So if money is what is most important then sorry oh! No but in cost of living you could live extremely well apparently in Nigeria on £6,000 a year (that includes food, travel, accomodation, personal care, clubbing, drinks etc). So what would you do with the rest of the £90,000. Plus if tax is only 16% for those who even decided to pay it means you are living extremely well.

I went to St. Geogre's Hospital Medical School in London. Yes I applied for many jobs before I got this one and it was indeed hard work but everything in life that is worth it usually is. Just keep your head up and keep on sending out those letters! Maybe you should try windsor fellowship passport to employment, they help people with interview and CV skills and also give you a mentor and try to help you get a six month internship!

Boost your CV by doing extracurricular things, learning a language or adding a professional qualification in the field you want to go into. Randomly call up offices and ask employees how they got their job. Why they chose it, things that you could put to use either in your CV and covering letter or in an interview. Read, read and read about the industry, job, business etc. It's all hard work man I know but it should be the same everywhere I dont think it wouold be any easier in Naija (unless u have connections). But I just feel I need to be around my people so dats why I would go back.

What types of jobs did u apply for in UK anyway?

@Shango - please don't ever make the mistake of twisting what I have said on this post or any other post.

I was in no way subscribing to a thought that NIDs are elitist. To the contrary I even said I HOPE its not jealousy as I personally believe there is nothing to be jealous of. I never look down on my feloow Nigerians and in fact you may be surprised to know I have always defended Nigerians in Nigeria against every1 including those in Nigeria.

I just thought for someone to make such a comment about every person who has foreign citizenship regardless of circumstances or even how patriotic they were was hard to explain - what other explanations can you provide beside jealousy. Since it is not based on the persons actions against Nigeria but on a piece of paper that says they can have treatment if they fall ill, or be protected from crime for the money they pay tax for etc etc the only differences between work permit and citizenship - there was no other explanation but jealousy.

My dear, there is not much to be jealous of, I even want to come to Nigeria. The amount of posts there are for people to LEAVE NIGERIA and come overseas is astronomical and people go out of there way to help people go there. Yet someone posted a topic on how a uk graduate could come to Nigeria to work, which I joined in, in saying I wanted to come and work in nigeria also and only two people have responded and I bet not many more will.

You insult me indirectly and expect me to be happy right. I did not leave Nigeria to come here, I was born and raised here, I even went through the pains of getting a Naija passport because to me home is always home. So check yourself before you make outlandish comments, you really need to stop doing this! You are the one looking down on NIDs!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Uk Graduates by ell77(f): 7:44pm On Aug 20, 2007
Yes they probably would increase your chances of being paid more! But, with your degree's subject and class you should be fought over anyway I should think!

Guess it depends on why you want to come to Nigeria. Someone told me of a girl who did an MBA with no experience who was educated in Nigeria (but went abroad to do the MBA) she commanded a salary in Naija of £96,000! I am not sure though if this was because it was an MBA or because she was educated abroad. It is quite unfair to those educated in Nigeria that you should receive more money simply because you were educated abroad, but then I guess it is a way of bringing people back home. Perhaps if you apply for can enquire about salaries for MBA holders you will know if it is worth it.

I have a 2.1 degree in Biomedical Science but I have quite a bit of expreience and I am currentyl a financial analyst so hopefully this will be all I need I have no problem with taking further degrees apart from cost and the fact it will delay me going to Naija. So what is it that is most important to you? There is no guarantee you will get more with MBA/MSc though it is extremely likely but dats atleast a year away to come to Naija.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Uk Graduates by ell77(f): 1:55pm On Aug 20, 2007
lol. Yeah I know they get so much exposure in the job section. But it seems that is the highest paying private sector in Nigeria with most vacancies also so every1 of course is eager to join one of them.

What type of job are you looking for? What is your qualification or experience?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Uk Graduates by ell77(f): 1:46pm On Aug 20, 2007
oh yeah and you can do nysc with your company usually but I think there are also ways to gain exemption.

@atieri and samix - thanks, but can I ask if anyone thinks people are hesitant about employing people from overseas?

I know it is ironic isn't it? Well I figure I am going to live in Nigeria some day, so its better for me to try now whilst I'm young and adaptable and have alot to offer than just to go there to retire.

Here is an article from Bloomberg:

Nigeria to Float Naira, Helping to Boost Investment (Update3)

By Paul Okolo and Nasreen Seria

Charles Soludo, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Nigeria will allow its currency to trade freely and adopt an inflation-targeting policy by January 2009, helping to boost investment in sub-Saharan Africa's second-largest economy.

The west African nation will gradually phase out its policy of setting the exchange rate at bi-weekly auctions, giving foreign investors greater access to local currency and enabling them to invest more in the country's equities and bonds. The central bank will have ``low and stable inflation'' as its long- term target, Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Charles Soludo told reporters in the capital Abuja today.

``The private financial markets are getting deeper and sophisticated enough to warrant further steps on the part of the central bank to gradually withdraw as a dominant player in the forex market,'' he said.

Nigeria is the region's second-largest economy after South Africa and the continent's biggest oil producer and most populous country. The new policies come after the central bank began liberalizing foreign-exchange trade in March 2006 in a bid to discourage illegal dealing in the currency.

``The greater role for the market and the move to convertibility of the currency is a big step for Nigeria,'' said Razia Khan, head of Africa economic research at Standard Chartered Plc in London. ``It opens the way for Nigeria to be traded as any other emerging-market economy.''

Dollar Accounts

The naira has strengthened 1.5 percent against the U.S. currency so far this year to 126.9 per dollar. The west African nation will redenominate the currency on Aug. 1, 2008, by removing two zeroes, Soludo said.

In an effort to deepen the nation's foreign-exchange market, a portion of revenue allocated to federal and state governments, known as the federation account, will be distributed in dollars with effect from September, Soludo said. The authorities will be required to open accounts with commercial banks, where the funds will be deposited, and will only be allowed to use them after converting them to naira.

``This policy will complement the ongoing programme of allowing Nigerian banks to manage part of our external reserves in collaboration with foreign asset managers,'' Soludo said. ``The net effect of these will be to create and deepen capacity within our banks.''

The new policies follow currency revaluations by other oil- producing nations to offset the impact of higher crude prices on inflation. Russia, the world's biggest energy exporter, has allowed its currency to appreciate three times this year, while Kuwait revalued the dinar against the dollar for a second time in a month in July.

Nigerian Assets

The policy changes will probably boost demand for Nigerian assets by making it easier for foreign investors to access the local market, said Luis Costa, emerging market debt strategist at ING Bank NV, in London.

``In the African credit market, the Nigeria market is perhaps the most exciting one,'' Costa said. ``This move will make its local bonds even more attractive.''

Nigeria's central bank sold 182-day Treasury bills at a 6.1 percent yield on Aug. 9, compared with 8.9 percent a year ago.

While Nigeria receives the most foreign investment in sub- Saharan Africa after South Africa, its currency is currently less liquid than the Kenyan shilling, said Khan.

``Part of that is because of the inconvertibility of the currency,'' Khan said. ``Anything that aims to resolve that is going to be positive for Nigerian financial markets as a whole.''

Inflation Targeting

Soludo said the adoption of an inflation-targeting framework would enable the central bank to pursue its macroeconomic policy, including higher economic growth and employment, in ``a more disciplined manner than the ad-hoc processes of the past.''

``Locking-in inflationary expectations is one effective way of ensuring that the currency re-denomination will be sustainable,'' he said, without saying what level of inflation the bank would target.

Nigerian inflation accelerated to 6.4 percent in June, from 4.6 percent in May, the National Bureau of Statistics said July 20.

If there was a limit to the amount you could receive before (probably $10,00), this limit should increase and in many cases domicillary accounts will be no different to nrmal accounts as there will be more access to foreign exchange through banks anyway - one of the benefits of capital account convertibility.

toshmann:
information reaching the NID news network shows that there is a serious infighting in both the NID and NIN camps as the two groups are trying hard to select a leadership that will assent to a ceasfire and recieve the 1 million naira (revalued edition) peace price. however, rumours have suggested that the NINs are insisting that the price should be taken by only the NIN side as the naira currency is their birthright while the NIDs are insisting that they are also nigerians and deserve any goody goodies that emanate from their country of origin.

in another development, the fighting has escalated to bloody levels in two other threads. the NID news correspondents will update y'all of this new escalation in other threads as soon as we confirm the story and the threads.

this is toshmann, reporting for NID news cool
lol.

Yes 1 million new Naira is worth 100 million current naira which is £400,000/$800,000! Seems the money is not enough for the two sides to agree to stop fighting. The UN deliberates and proposes a new offer! 100 million new naira! Surely this must end the war, we know nigerians love money both at home and abroad!  kiss

@esco - Nope your perfectly right and I don't think you are attacking me don't worry! grin

Yes, even now I was thinking it would be a good time to buy stocks and shares in UK and USA because they will most likely return to levels they were at. I guess I am just a bit protective when it comes to Nigeria as whenever we follow something done elsewhere we don't seem to have the same good results.

I too love intelligent conversation and to be honest all of this is speculation no one knows the answer until it actually happens.

Take care and thank you too for your points they are good as they make people think. I am the ying to your yang I guess! lol. No I am optimistic too, just very cautious! wink
InvestmentRe: Effect Of Naira Redomination On Stock Market Investments? by ell77(f): 4:02pm On Aug 17, 2007
Like I said, this could be the greatest thing to happen to Nigeria provided precautions are taken.

The economy of Nigeria has been blown up before, when oil prices decreased Nigeria was forced to go into debt which has only just been paid off!

If UK, USA, Australia and Japan have been effected by backlash of subprime mortgage loans of one country (USA), then I don't think it is inconceivable the same could happen to Nigeria. As I said there are ways businesses and the government can shield themselves from this, they should take the time to find out what these ways are.

Nigeria should learn from the mistakes of others both in the wealthier and poorer nations and strategically align themselves to benefit from things. Ask yourself if CBN is as ready as the rest of these Central banks were and even if they are. You can see how they suffered and it is not over yet.
InvestmentRe: Effect Of Naira Redomination On Stock Market Investments? by ell77(f): 12:59pm On Aug 17, 2007
@esco - I like your analysis also!

Yet my issue is investments don't always lead to a better economy.

For example, Mr Bose owns a Television channel named Bose Tv. He lists shares on the stock exchangea N5. Foreign investors see this as an opprotunity to invest and with competition for these shares the share price may jump to N10. Mr Bose uses the money from the shares for the business, but there is alot of wastage and he is also just unlucky on the new technology he invests in and people find his station boring. He posts his annual report at a loss.

There is no profit to pay taxes to the government.
There is no social gain from his station.
There is no money to employ people so the people do not gain from more jobs being created from this investment.

If the investors do not have a substantial shareholding they have no say over how the business is run, and this can easily happen causing the share price to drop again perhaps even lower than the initial N5.

But lets see if the investors did have a substantial sharhold and thus more voting rights into what happens in a business.

Inevitably they will probably want to be a director on the board in some cases or for you to employ directors they are familiar with and have confidence in. Likely from abroad. These people may find it better to give the rubbish jobs to the people and the better jobs to expatriates (look at what is happening with Niger-Delta oil companies). If there is protest the business share price will fall, if there is no protest the people are not benefitting from more jobs (as such). Taxes may be paid by expatriate workers to the government but there is no guarantee this will trickle down to the ordinary Nigerian man. The major foreign shareholders who receive gains when they sell shares or through dividends will pay their taxes to their own governments and it is likely IT WILL trickle down to the average Brit or American.

I am not saying this is a bad thing but business that list must make sure they protect themselves from those who care nothing about the people. Not just for themselves but the people of Nigeria. This is just my opinion though and on a stock basis I really do believe after the market rallies in Nigeria, it will crash. Perhaps not soon, but it will at one point even if it is after a while. The difference between this happening in Nigeria and USA and UK is that the Nigerian market will have become dependent almost entirely on foreign investment, whereas these markets are not. They also have support from their respective governments and economies i.e. the central banks. Nigeria does not - CBN at this stage is probably not capable of injecting cash into the market if it crashes (or atleast that is what they will say).

In theory this won't be bad for the market, there simply has to be alot of scrutiny, regulation and precautions taken and this may be the best thing to happen to Nigeria. Sorry if I sound like I am being down I just want people to look out for those predators! grin

I am aware the seller has an offer he is in the process of closing now at 700,000 naira. If you get there first with a better offer (with the money ready), you may still be able to get the car, otherwise I am afraid you have missed your chance.

Goodluck to the buyer who made this offer though, I really think you are going to be amazed at how you found such a fantastic deal!

I will put the mileage on the car up on this site today if I hear back from the seller.

Although I am in London, I am not the one selling the car I am merely using my access to the internet to publicise his car as he spends all his time at the display centre so finds it hard to publicise it. You can get American cars or left-hand drives in mainland Europe easily anyway and they are often alot cheaper than British cars, hope this clarifies things!

InvestmentRe: Effect Of Naira Redomination On Stock Market Investments? by ell77(f): 8:16pm On Aug 16, 2007
@md dude - couldn't have said it better myself. Whilst investment is good, not all investment will benefit Nigeria in the long-term. I second the idea the market will rise in value but probably crash when Togo or somewhere does the same and the investors move on. Because they have no allegiance ot the country they invest in it is easy for them to pull out money at a whim. So when investments come, Nigerians must be wise with who they do business with and under which terms. Business owners will most probably benefit alot but the average man will not see the rewards unless this filters down.

Typical Millenia Safety
Contributing to your safety and peace of mind are some of the very features that  make the Mazda Millenia so well engineered and fun to drive,

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
Standard computer controlled Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) help prevent wheel lockup for better control on slippery surfaces.  Electronic traction control detects and limits wheel slippage to help you manage slick surfaces.  (standard on Millenia S, available on Millenia)

Built-in Crumple Zones
The Mazda Millenia's design helps protect the passenger cabin in a collision.  Built-in front and rear "crumple zones" absorb impact by progressively collapsing.  If hit from the side, side-impact beams deliver added strength and protection.

Dual Air Bags
Even the Mazda Millenia's supplemental restraint system is advanced engineered with piezoelectric sensors for greater reliability and second-generation empowered air bags that help prevent injuries form the force of the airbags themselves.

Steel Spine
The responsive power and front-wheel drive handling help you avoid hazards.  But if avoidance isn't possible, the Mazda Millenia has backbone.  It's design incorporates a steel "spine" to help maintain the passenger cabin's integrity in an impact

Typical Millenia Performance
Alter your perceptions of your favorite roads, as the agile, responsive and luxurious Millenia will make them all seem shorter. Savor the quality of a car crafted to feel solid long after millenium events are just a footnote.

Two -Piece Engine
The innovative cast-alloy, two piece engine block adds strength around the crankshaft, for smooth operation. Both the Miller-cycle engine and the 2.5-liter, 170-hp standard Millenia engine use this design.

Unit Body Construction
Graceful and inspiring, the Mazda Millenia features a unit body construction that integrates body and frame, reduces weight, an increases rigidity for taut handling and better response.

Miller-Cycle V-6
Exult in the performance of the only Miller-cycle automotive engine as it delivers the power and feel of a responsive V-8-without the thirst. Featured in the Mazda Millenia S, this unique engine has dramatic power, generous torque and unexpected efficiency.

4-speen Automatic with Hold Mode
The Mazda Millenia's electronically-controlled automatic transmission features overdrive and special "Hold" mode that provides optimum gearing in hilly terrain.

Multiple Link Suspension
When cornering, the natural tendency of the rear wheels is to continue in a straight line. In the Mazda Millenia, the multiple links of the rear suspension counteract the tendency, in effect subtly "steering" the rear wheels for better handling.

All-Season Radial Tires
From the unique Lysholm compressor, to the twin air-to-air intercoolers, even right down the tires, the Mazda Millenia is built to perform. All-season radials and front-wheel drive give you traction in all kinds of weather.
PoliticsRe: Naira To Be Re-Denominated by ell77(f): 5:59pm On Aug 16, 2007
Well, even if the governemnt didn't "waste" this money on this exercise it still would not have reached the places everyone else would have liked, atleast not at first. It would have gone into there pockets so either way if you were never going to see the benefits of your taxes why does it matter? Atleast they are showing the world they can follow the economic policies and if this attracts foreign money then it will mean in time the economy of Nigeria may improve. This is not a stand alone policy though but to me its a step in the right direction. Yes, perhaps too soon but I think that may be because the government is racing to show the African Central Bank (and thus the world too) that they are the flagship of Nigeria.

Instead of thinking of how this will go wrong, perhaps we should think of what the best way Nigerians can place themselves to benefit from it. because whether you are for it or against it will come to pass anyway and you will be the ones left to deal with this. Start to think of what you can offer a foreign investor, either as a person or as a business and what they can offer you, don't let yourself be used, but at the same time represent Nigeria in a good light so that investment will be plentiful. If it were up to me this would come a little later perhaps and the investors would mainly be Nigerians who want to return or atleast 'give back'. At the very least the so-called cheap labour will bring outsourcing opportunities to Nigeria like India saw. Well thats my stand on it!
