It has been more than a month since academic activities kicked off in the federal university of agriculture Makurdi. I went to the boys hostel yesterday to collect study materials from a friend and what I saw very much unpleasant to all my senses.

You see this saying "youths are the leaders of tomorrow?" It is very correct. We are breeding in most universities in this country the next round of useless leaders, and citizens as well. We are no different from the present useless leaders we have. My Year1 in hostel in school was frustrated by delinquent students. I packed and cleaned shit from my toilet and bathroom floor tire, plus urine. Human being go see toilet seat but go still shit for the floor. I suffer for wicked students hands o. No sense of responsibility on the part of most students to keep school properties and environment clean.

The trauma in the eye gives me this feeling that even the left side of my brain may have been affected, it feels like the brain tissues are swolen too. The eye soccet and skull feels like it had a real accident impact like a falĺ or hit.

I am 28yrs. No. But I have very blurred eyesight which I attribute to the numerous herbal stuffs I have put in the eyes over the years to treat the eye.

Thank you! That is the problem—none of them told me what really is wrong with the eye. Everyone of them just kept exclamating and shouting at me for joking with my eyesight, telling me that they are very bad. And that I should have started using glasses long ago. Even though I use the glasses, the pressure in the eye wont just stop. The pain is unbearable. I feeĺ it deep inside straight passing through the ear to the back of the head or skull, and paralysis down to the right side of the nose and the jaw. What I know is that I never had eye issue until that incidence, it is that effect of the hot oil that splashed into the eye, but the doctors all disagree with me on that.

Doc., please help! Since 12yrs ago I have been battling with constant and severe eye pains in my right eye. At this point it causes the eye to squint and weak, and I find it very difficult to look side ways to the right side.
What I know could be the cause is that, sometime in 2009 I was deepfrying some fish when I mistakenly used a wet spoon to dip into the frypan with hot oil and so it exploded and caused the hot oil to splash into my eye. Ever since then my right eye has been in great tension. I feel dragging in the nerves. The issue has cost my life ambitions, it has recked my life! It has cost me my self esteem due to the fact I cant maintain eye contact conversations. I lose balance in crowd, I have 24/7 migrains in the right eye. I have great confusion in focusing on objects as the ĺeft eye(which is calm and okay) and the right eye can not align.
Welĺ, I have been to several hospitals including Teaching Hospital,Gwagwalada, Abj; I have been to UPTH, Port Hascourt; Teaching Hospital, Bayelsa and a host of other eye clinics. All I get is eyeglass recommendation and few histamine and related drugs. They don't work and I am tired. Please help me!

How we met
It took me three years to get admission into the university. During that time, I was attending a tutorial in Ibadan, and that is how I met Paul, a friend of my friend. My friend introduced us and we got really close. After talking for a while, I discovered I like him. The feelings were mutual, so we started dating on my birthday, November 7th. The thing is; I have suffered emotional abuse and have been depressed for a while now. I have been molested twice, and I couldn’t even tell my own mother because she was always so harsh towards me. It got so bad that I even had to leave home to stay with my aunt. I had attempted suicide twice, and I have a lot of insecurities. Paul was there for me anytime I needed someone to talk to. He loved me and I always wondered why. He knows all my flaws, but I still could not understand why he loves me so much.

The first mistake
It was the best relationship I ever had. He was understanding, helped with my depression and academics. We never had serious fights, just a few misunderstandings over little things. Everything was going good for a year until I met some guy on Facebook, John. John and I started talking, and the chats progressed to the point where he asked me to send him nudes. I sent some with my face hidden because I was so sure I would never see him in real life. He lived in Lagos, I lived in Ibadan, and I didn’t plan on sleeping with him. Unfortunately for me, he attended the same secondary school as Paul. One day, John posted my picture on his WhatsApp status, and Paul saw it. Paul asked how he knew me, and John told him everything. Paul forgave me, but I knew he was hurt.

The second mistake
In 2019, I finally got admission into University, but I somehow got scammed of my acceptance fee. I couldn’t tell my parents or Paul because I felt so stupid. Instead, lied to him that my parents couldn’t pay the acceptance fee, I couldn’t tell him the truth. Covid-19 came, so schools couldn’t resume and the deadline for payment was up. I was planning on running away cause of shame, so I wanted to break up with Paul. I was stressed. One day I went to see a friend, and I ended up drinking with him. We almost had sex, but I was on my period so it didn’t happen. I initially didn’t tell Paul about it, but I eventually told him about how I went drinking and how I almost cheated. He was disappointed but forgave me.

The third mistake
The money for the initial acceptance fee was something I eventually raised, but because I was paying late, the price had increased. I was so desperate, and because my parents were having financial issues, I was ready to sleep with anyone for money for my school fees. Then, I met this guy who promised to take care of me, and I slept with him thinking he’ll help. I keep texting and sexting him so he would feel interested, but hasn’t said anything. This led to me breaking up with Paul. I told him it was because I needed time to be alone, but it was really because I couldn’t tell him I cheated on him.

The end
Paul and I eventually got back together, but it was because he did not know I cheated. He found out after reading my chats, so he left. I tried explaining to him how I only did it because I was desperate, but he thought I chose the man over him.

I feel bad and selfish about what I did. He deserved better than me, and I wish he listened when I told him before we started dating. This is just the kind of person I am. When I think of the fact that the person I slept with didn’t even give me any money, I feel I lost both ways.

I will probably sink deeper into depression because I finally lost the only person that ever cared. Paul is a good person that didn’t deserve any of the things I put him through. If I say I love him, it’ll surely look like a lie because you don’t hurt those you love, but I love him. I should just have done better.

I thought it was part of okolobiri because of the very close distance. I saw the gas flaring from afar so I crossed the bridge to see the plant. It's like 2 minutes trek away from that bridge beside the teaching Hospital's fence. Poverty was obviously written on the faces of the dwellers. Some said their leaders share the royalties and allocations and leave peanuts for ones living in the community. What a pity. See youths dealing in POS business all around. Niger delta elders are the problems of that region . Once they share the money, they return to the various cities where they live like the mallams do

The day I visited okolobiri in bayelsa, I almost wept for this country, seeing the gas being flared at the LNG plant. Same is happening at chevron plant in Warri, round the clock. We're too blessed to be poor but no thanks to our reckless leaders...same who are now traveling up and down the country ahead if 2023 in the name of consultation, those who don't even know, what would befall them in the next 24 hours.
