freebuddy: Let me get this straight. Some doctors leave the country because the infrastructure is grossly inadequate. This leads to a situation where the remaining doctors become overworked. Then some of the overworked doctors get fed up and decide to quit and relocate to other countries, worsening the situation.
Kai!!! Nigeria is in serious trouble. No wonder NYSC doctors and junior doctors are the only ones who often attend to me when I visit the hospital!

I am a doctor. I left Nigeria on the 18th of September, for greener pastures. After my exams, and when I am done completing my training, it is bye bye to Nigeria. Not after suffering and sacrificing would I come back to earn a pittance. Do you know that a 12 months house officer's salary cannot buy a new Toyota Camry. I have finally decided to relieve myself of the blackmail that Medicine is a calling. Omo, for Kaplan here we I deh study for the USMLEs, after the South Americans, nah Naija guys full here. If you are a doctor reading this, do quick and cut out of Nigeria. Nigeria does not pay. Nigerians do not appreciate you. Nairaland typists would always be quick to bash you. Even if it is Sudan, go. Till Nigeria is brought to it's knees by the dearth of doctors, till they invest seriously in the health sector; infrastructure wise and renumeration-wise. For now, the government is not serious. If you see hospitals here, omo, just Texas Children Hospital is bigger than Transcorp Hilton. Make I no talk now.

Travel › Re: 5 Mistakes First-time Travelers Make by ElPhoche(m): 7:14pm On Oct 13, 2017 |
Opinionated: It is quite easy for first-time travelers to make mistake upon mistake on their first travel experience. However, there are some tips that can help first-time travelers avoid these repeated mistakes. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 mistakes that first-time travelers make and how to avoid them.
Using a Travel Agent For Everything
This might seem like the safe option but it can also make the whole process more expensive. While it is nice to have the ‘safety net’ of a travel agent, you can generally limit your use of their services to booking your flights and maybe taking advantage of their accommodation packages. Aside that, you generally can try to look after everything yourself, all you really need to do is be willing to ask questions from people that have traveled before, travel forums or even help desks to guide yourself the rest of the way. Once you do this, it will much easier for you to continue rather than having to rely on a travel agent all the time.
Being Scared of the Locals
This might not be the best idea for a first-time traveler because it makes him/her stand out even more and be easily identified as a ‘Johnny Just Come’, which can be quite disadvantageous for said first-time traveler. It is best to be open and free, especially when you are visiting a foreign area. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should neglect the use of common sense and throw basic caution to the wind, but don’t over do it by thinking everyone is out to get you. If you’re open and friendly, you can even make one or two friends among the locals that will guide you on the basic things you need to know about life there.
Don’t Be Too Hard Yourself for Being Scammed
It’s only natural that if you’re new to a place, you are likely to occasionally get scammed while adjusting to how life works there. It’s okay, no matter how smart or careful you are, it will happen sometimes. There’s no easy way around it so just roll with the punches and learn whatever lesson that needs to be learned to avoid it happening again. Being scammed doesn’t mean you should be so hard on yourself and become hyperactive and super distrustful of everyone around you, you’ll exhaust yourself living that way. Just let the experiences make you wiser, learn from them and be better for it.
Underestimating Costs
It is best to travel with the mentality that everything over 'there' is likely to cost more, especially if you are traveling to a town or city as opposed to a village. As much as you are trying to be conservative, it is much better to get to your destination and have more than enough rather than having less and getting stranded, which can be particularly disadvantageous to you as a first-time traveler.
Packing Way Too Many Things
It might be tempting to over-pack if you’re a first-time traveler, but please do your best to overcome this temptation. It is best to pack lightly so you will be able to easily respond to any sudden instance or situation during your travel. Over-packing is not very safe for you and can weigh you down, therefore, it is best to avoid it. Try to only pack the items you absolutely - and the key word is ‘absolutely’ - cannot do without.
Source: http://www.opinions.ng/5-mistakes-first-time-travelers-make/ Well, 1)I packed very few things. Na only God provide the cloth I have been flexing since 2)For the aeroplane, I no understand the kind food they were serving. Didn't know which one was the appetizer, desert. In fact, there was this thing butter, cheese, I had to lick it in a coded manner before I dropped it. I was using one eye to watch one small Asian boy and another oyibo to know which one they would eat first. 3)The only problem I have here na say I deh miss woman cooking for me.... You know how it is nah... All join shaa.. nice post |

Cire80: of course I know that. They the white women give birth to less children is not the reason I made that assertion. If you don't know about the goings on in this world, you would never understand some certain things. There's so many things wrong with the white man's body which you can never see in any medical journal. There's a conspiracy to hide any deficiency in them and exposed any little insufficiencies in us albeit magnifying them. The white man's body is not all glowing. Their system is weak. Believe it or not. I've been privileged to get first hand information on this courtesy of some black Caribbeans I moved with. I can't share here for certain reasons Guy, you can argue for no just cause. It haff do. I no deh type again |

Cire80: it doesn't make us invincible but it makes the fatality rate extremely marginal compared how it would be with some certain race of people when exposed to exactly the same conditions. I don't believe in many of the stats I see because they're used a propaganda tool of making it seem like Africa is home of sickness and diseases while in the real sense they're the ones that suffer so much from them. I judge from my personal interactions with different races and nationalities and I've come to the conclusion that despite the artificial and diabolical manufacturing of diseases by Bill gates, Obama and the rest of them into Africa, they have more diseases than us. Our women take in more easily than theirs. High percentage of their women are dependent on fertility drugs and other things. Many of their people have weak body systems and they're dependent on machines to exist. In the words of Tyrione Lannister, 'Some things are not true just because you want to believe not true'. Sitting in your sitting room, making an assumption and holding that assumption to be true is so ignorant. I may be as fertile as a rabbit, but I am not giving birth to more than 2-3 kids (irrespective of sex) simply because I want to give those 2-3 the best quality of life I can, remove reproductive stress from my wife and enjoy her fresh too. Fertility is not by the number of children you have. In this present time, to born on village is so rubbish. How many people in Nigeria can take care of a 5 children comfortably? |

Cire80: you're not making sense. Are you arguing that Africans have much more stronger immunity to so many things compared to white counterparts? Can an average white man that visited Africa survive mosquito bites for a week without falling sick and eventually dying if not properly treated? Can an average white man drink pond water for a week without falling sick and dying? Yet I've seen people that have been exposed to mosquito and drank pond water all their lives and they lived for hundred of years. The question now is, is there such things as immunity? The die from malaria because we have developed significant immunity from from a lifetime of mosquito bite. If you stay in d united states for like 10 years and come back, you are almost as vulnerable. We have immunity simply because we are constantly exposed to shit that our system has gotten used to it and produce antibodies against them, which on its own still doesn't make us invincible. It is simply a case of not needing something because you have no use for it. |
Health › Re: White Man Compares A Dog In US & Health System In Lagos by ElPhoche(m): 9:08pm On Oct 02, 2017 |
Cire80: I'm not a doctor but I'm talking from first hand experience. I'm not talking about population but percentage. A high percentage of Americans are suffering from one sickness or the other. The common sickness in Nigeria is typhoid and malaria. I have friends and family here and in the US. From my experience there, a high percentage of Americans are suffering from some serious illness that requires an operation. Many people there survive on blood thinners. Some can't sleep without having some machines close by. Don't talk like I don't have friends in Nigeria anymore and don't know the type of sicknesses existing here. In the US, they are no longer grappling with infectious disease like we are still doing. Lemme not enter the 'malaria and typhoid' discussion with you. Know that the diagnosis of malaria and typhoid is wrong 95%, at least for typhoid. Widal test test is not w diagnostic test for Typhoid actually. Research more on that matter. Do you know how many people in Nigeria are in need of surgeries but cannot have one; maybe from money, infrastructure, inability to assess care, and even not knowing what they have? Just look up online and compare things like Maternal mortality, Infant mortality, and other health indices of Nigeria and the US. We might not like it, but it is a bitter truth. In the entire eastern Nigeria, there is only one place you can receive photo therapy for cancer. That is in Enugu, and the machine there is obsolete. You have to grapple with hard facts here. If you are in the States here, you would know that things work. Lemme stop and face what I am doing abeg |
Health › Re: White Man Compares A Dog In US & Health System In Lagos by ElPhoche(m): 1:24pm On Oct 02, 2017 |
Cire80: Luckily, Nigerians don't suffer up to 1% of cancer and brain tumor or any other acute and chronic sicknesses you can think of as the US. Any average teen or adult in the US has undergone one form of surgery or another. So many have artificial instruments fixed inside their body and others are living with gadgets. Yet they say Africa is home of diseases. Only someone that's never been there or someone that's never had close relationship with them would believe such claims Trust me, your assertion is not true. I am a doctor. Part of the reasons it appears that our people don't suffer as much are these -Nigeria doesn't have a cancer registry, at best a quasi-registry is what we have. The Americans have it and all tcancers are recorded. They are good with keeping records. -Nigeria is just like the size of a state in the US. Assume that in your village, 20person get an illness but only 6 reported, and then another State with 10 villages, who the 200 (20×10) reported, can you say that your village doesn't suffer cancers as much? I am not trying to say that they don't have cancer as much as us, but cancers have types too. I know several times that when we make a diagnosis of cancer like Nephroblastoma in children, and tell the parents, they would be surprised thatn'children can have cancer' -We don't seek care in Nigeria for reasons like shame, ignorance, poverty, 'church' How many times have you gone for a checkup? That should go a long way in answering your question. My regards to you. Do have a nice day |

As bad as it may sound, what he said is true. Here in Houston, there is this hospital/building I pass everyday, the name is Petimaging. Men, it is way way better than your average Nigerian hospital, 100:1. And it is just about radiology for animals. When I was working in Nigeria, we used to send some of our patients down to Asaba or even Enugu, when our CT or MRI in NAUTH wasn't working. Do you know, in Houston, a mere Texas children hospital taking care of just an aspect of paediatrics is way 5X bigger than Transcorp Hilton in Nigeria? My people, we are still very very far. Make I no talk the one weh relate to my profession |
