Transformers 2 looks like the bomb. In fact, it is looking like a Nuclear Bomb. I so cannot wait to see this. I have my tickets already!

The Sequel may actually be better than the first one, owning to the fact that the "Fallen are back for a revenge". From what I can gather here and there. A few changes have been made and new transformers have been added.  grin I am dying with excitement and am counting down to it.

I am probably gonna take a day off to watch it in the afternoon, I cant those idiot kids at the cinema. grin

America is arguably the strongest country in the world.  Yet it was brought to its knees by 19 men on 911.  So forget the story of Isreal being the 4th strongest military in the world.
I was going to take you serious until I saw that. What an ignorant thing to say.

Afam:
Restrictions placed on foreign journalists are good since all they do is misinform the public just to suit the agendas of their owners and interests.
Are you kidding me? Are you implying all press in the region are "Western influenced"? Even Al-Jazeera and "unwesternised media outlets" are reporting there is a problem - same line of report as that of the so called western media. It is a bad thing to restrict freedom of the press. Especially in this kind of scenario that the whole world is watching.

A partial recount goes to prove that Ahmedinejad has nothing to hide especially as the opposition does not have enough supporters to win any election as even stated in all the polls conducted before the election.
A few respected political analyst have doubted the margin in which Ahmadinejad won. I will take their view over yours any day am afraid. Also a recount is an indicative that there is definitely issues [vote rigging?] as alleged all along. Look at the images coming out of Tehran, clearly the opposition have loads of support.

The same foreign journalists tried the same nonsense in Zimbabwe and while the West lied all the way to the media quite a number of well meaning African leaders knew the facts and supported Mugabe and today we know how peace came to that country.
Call a spade, a spade. The election in Zimbabwe was flawed and rigged. If people like you cannot call a spade, a spde, then no point trying to debate with you. Was it the westerners as well that made mugabe cling on to power and then saying "only God can remove him"? Or was that taken out of context. Dude. Open your eyes man. I get the impression you just refuse to see the point at hand.

Facts don't lie and the sooner we started basing our positions on them the better.

The US used lies to invade Iraq and today uncountable number of innocent people have been killed. We all know the roles of the media and foreign journalists in demonizing Saddam.
Let me get this straight, you want Nigeria to adopt a hardform of Islamic law? You want your wife covering her face? You want your sex to give sex on demand? You want to stone and hang adulterers and homos? Right. Now I know where your school of thought comes from. I think I will rather debate with someone like RichyBlack than someone with your mind set.

You keep missing the point. Regardless of media input or not, the US was ready to strike him. Besides, that is not what this debate is about. I have a feeling you also like moving goal post. Gosh, you have all the worst attributes of a rubbish debater am afraid.
Foreign AffairsRe: Demilitarized State by ElRazur: 12:50pm On Jun 16, 2009
It depends on where you are looking at it from.

To me it appears they are proposing a short term solution. If history is something we have to look at, Palestine have proved time and time again that they cannot control their borders. They have shown that the lack the capability to mann their own air space.

People are missing the point that, there will be some sort of UN force or so doing these jobs raised by the OP temporarily until something better is achieved.

Also, before most of you miss the good thing out of this is that both side have seen that a two state solution is the long term goal. That is what I get from Nentenyahu, and am sure with time more and more solution would follow on this as a basis. smiley

Leadership is a skill drilled into all soldier men. If you are educated and have decent qualification, you will be joining the army as an officer. These leadership skills are usually accompanied with other qualities like discipline, no-nonsense attitude etc.

Nigerians are not ready to die for Nigeria. Fact. smiley

Most Nigerians are all mouth and no substance. Fact.

Nigerians are happy to continue with suffering and smiling. Fact.

Until all these facts are proved incorrect, then we will never see such move.

RichyBlacK:
@ElRazur,

We also have that in my village and I agree with your explanation as to why such restrictions were put in place. Honestly, these were some of the earliest forms of nature-preservation that we had. Many of these restrictions had truly beautiful reasons behind them.

It seemed that the lack of written records made it possible for oral transmission of culture to be dominant. In time, the village people forgot the actual reasons why these environmental restrictions were put in place, and focused on the consequences. In more time, the consequences started gathering more bizarre artifacts and unscrupulous myths, claims and assertions replaced basic common-sense reasons. Ultimately, rubbish claims like "if a person eats the fish, the person will die in seven days" became gospel truths.

My mission is to make it abundantly clear that substituting common-sense reasoning with mythical gibberish has the unintended consequence of dulling the mind, discouraging inquisitiveness, destroying curiosity and stunting incisive minds. Over a sustained period, the population gets duller and duller, because the skeptics have either been sacrificed to the gods, murdered for being witches, sold into slavery for being stubborn or banished from society for questioning the gods.

Unfortunately, we have people who still believe that  mammywaters are living inside the Atlantic ocean! grin
Glad you see the point I am trying to make.

Yeah I agree the lack of written record have affected many of our heritage, tradition, indigenous religion and culture. The thing is that, something have to be done about this very soon, or we will soon become non-existent officially. The art is systematically being lost as more and more young people are leaving [or left] the village for the city. Like I said before, reforms and re-working is what we need. If the govt. is willing to help fund this sort of project, I am more than happy to give my time and do as much as I can. I mean, look at the Indians, they have so many religions and most of it have some sort of documentation or the other.

Again I agree with you, the system of simple-beliefs have been exploited by men for their own gain. I mean, if a pastor can acquire a private plane, what is stopping a local/ native medicine man from charging a ram, 7 tuber of yams and a basket of Kola nuts?

We all have one form of belief or the other, for example, I do not believe in the existence of God, yet I find traditional religion fascinating that I have studied as much as I can. Oh I also believe in the existence of alien though, as I believe we do not exist alone in the universe. In fact, I have on my face book page "African Voodoo Science" as my religion lol.

PoliticsRe: No Native Doctor Section On Nairaland Why? Are We Not Africans? by ElRazur: 10:16pm On Jun 15, 2009
It is funny how people have missed the point. From Tpiah, blackrichy and co.

People are mixing Black magic, with other forms of worship. I know a few things or so about ogun worship and none of these things in my opinion support black magic. It is more about been in tune with one's belief and keeping in touch with one's God.

As much as most of your are focusing on the black magic art, people are quick to forget that these same black magic are ever present in Christianity and Islam - the two dominant religion in Nigeria. Jesus spits in muds and says prayer [Prayer is just a posh name for incantations you see.], The quran discuss of how to read certain verses in how to tackle Jinn. Surely all these things translate as some form of magic? I will let people decide if it is white or black.

I have said it at the beginning of this thread and I am saying it again, most major traditional forms of religions do need a rework and I believe that with intervention of people with my sort of mind set can bring about changes. After all, people like Jesus came to make changes to Christianity as we know it today? So is Muhammed who spread his own form of religion.

Here is an example: Back in my village, there is a river that is sacred in some ways, villagers are not allowed to catch the fish inside. The belief is that this fishes are sacred and if caught, they can never be cooked - i.e no matter how one cook them they just wont die. Beside, who ever tried will have plenty of consequences to face.

To cut a long story short, I have defied this kind of law in my quest to actually see what would happen. The end result is that I caught the fish - very big one, cooked them and I am still very much alive today.

The actual sacred story that was invented to keep the villager away is more or less designed to keep the water fresh as it was the only source of proper drinking water at the time.

Some of you may laugh at this, but what it is the difference between this and those who believe Jesus is in heaven, coming back to judge this world or there is 72 virgin in heaven? There really isn't much, only that one can be tested like I did and the others cant.

Anyway for all you sceptics, things are not what they seem sometimes.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Is Indeed The Giant Of Africa by ElRazur: 10:30pm On Jun 14, 2009
You points are flawed and biased. But I am too tired to post  any lengthy post tonight. On what basis are you measuring your gigantism? Is it a fair comparison across the board? Let me take them as it comes to my head.

1 in 4 African is a Nigerian. Right, what is this an indicative of? A populated nation with loads of people in diaspora? An over populated nation with little social economic structure to look after its citizen hence the high number? It could mean a wide range of stuff, but it is never an indicative of "Giantism" like you are trying to paint.

You are quick to label a few countries as whitewashed tombs, yet Nigeria to some would fall exactly into this category. That counter your argument. I mean it can even be argued that we have more slums than Ghana as we are relatively bigger. A fair comparison will be our well the citizen are taken care of in terms of Sociol economic structure?

A nation not having ATM makes them what exactly? Which country did you go, I will be interested in knowing this please. What do you mean ATM are not interconnected? You mean you cant use your VISA or Mastercard? Well it wont be the fault of these nations now or will it? But then, I will reserve my judgement until you let me know where you went.

Why is Kenya jealous of us? Do you have a proof of this? Kenya have a thriving tourist industries that makes Yankari game reserve a joke.

There are other nations doing other things for their neighbouring country that we do not hear off. Be it sending it troops to prop up a moderate government down to giving out aids and what not. I find it somewhat contradictory that you even mentioned "supply electricity to other nation". I mean, what kind of a giant ignores issues at home while sending solution to another country? Or is constant electricity not good enough for people at home?

As for 419, it appears to me you are trying to blame others for our actions. A real giant wont do that. lol

Look oga, I agree with you that we do have problems. However Nigeria is not the giant of Africa. All those silly "country motto" that sounds snazzy do not mean it is true. I mean, look at Abuja for example, it claims to be the heart beat of Nigeria or something. Erm most will disagree, the heart beat of Nigeria lies in places like Lagos and all these commercial city down in the igbo areas. You see, Nigeria laying claim to be a giant of Africa is just like that.

We do not have the technical know-how to claim these position, we may be populated, but it is not a pre-requisite for what makes us a giant.

I dont wanna make a long post jare.  smiley

If you claim politicians keep tabs on nairaland, then surely if they want to buy a car, they would go to the Auto section - where you have one running already. huh
