I'm sorry but if you turn on CNN now you will see that T.B. Joshua was 100% correct. I doubted before because of the flames but you need to see the Texas explosion. God help America. |

Omowunmi remains one of the classiest beauty queens Nigeria has ever had. I mean why would Toke wear visible underwear with a sheer dress? It's just tacky! |

When i was serving at a General Hospital in the North (I can't give names for confidentiality), there was a pregnant woman who had tried to delivered at home and was rushed to the hospital because the delivery was proving difficult. It turned out that the child's arm had prolapsed or was sticking out of the vagina in an awkward position. We tried to reposition unsuccessfully but couldn't so the only option left was an emergency CS. In Sept. 2004, this woman needed just N30,000 for the surgery and couldn't afford it. Her husband was a carpenter and that was her 9th delivery. I begged and begged the head of the hospital to perform the CS on credit but he refused. Unfortunately this was a period I was soo broke myself so I couldn't pay cash and I was refused to sign as a surety for them. After three(3) days of excruciating pain the poor woman developed an infection. Obviously the child had died in utero and become septic so she developed high-grade fever and eventually died. It was about an hour before her death that the callous doctor heading the hospital approved the surgery, only too late. His claim was that I didn't know "these people". "They had the money but wouldn't pay". This was my first week there but I couldn't sleep properly for the next one week after she died. Her husband's grief was of the type I have never seen in a man before that time or since. HE wept profusely saying, " My help, my partner, how will I raise 8 children on my own?". It was so pathetic. I currently work to promote family planning because I believe that no-one should have children if they are not adequately prepared. I mean a couple expecting a child didn't have a mere N20000 saved? How were they planning on feeding the child? The issues of negligence on the part of the medical staff must also be addressed. If you're going to admit, then please treat and at least stabilize the patient. If you won't, refer. Simple! |
Some comments here are just disrespectful. Her family made a commitment to life. We don't choose the bad things that happen to us but we can choose to the way we respond to them. Who says she was actually gone all those years or that her life even in that vegetative state did not serve any purpose? As long as she was alive, there was hope and that was all they asked for. Because of their undying sacrifice, others who might easily give up hope on those who will recover eventually may not easily do so because they have shown the possibility of long term care for the invalid and her condition obviously kept the family very united. No effort is wasted, true love and commitment can never be wrong and I thank God for all the lessons her life brought with it. We can only pray for grace to be so blessed with such love. |

I'm here, Sis. Nice to meet you. |
It's not the aged themselves that are burdens. It is the accompanying ailments, loss of memories and frustrations that come with extreme aging. If you have cared for a sick child, imagine it on a larger scale when they are not in good health. |
Stand in front of a mirror naked and spend time looking at each of your features looking for what is good and bad about each of them. You can make comments like "My eyes are too small but at least I don't have to wear glasses.", etc. It may take you several days but eventually you'll find yourself getting used to yourself and appreciating what you have. |
I grew up with my grand mother who was often ill in her last days and it's not easy taking care of them no matter how good your intentions maybe. It is a full time job. At the home, your mother has people of her age to talk to and believe me, this keeps them going. You could however start taking her home about twice a month especially on weekends when you'll all be home. That way, she'll get the best of both lives and not be a burden to you. She knows what she's saying because she comes from a generation that bore that responsibility and has probably seen how it affected others. As a mother, she will only want the very best for you and your mom. |
