How much are you selling the internet security version for? |
I think it's just a nasty thing to say and the reporter should be ashamed of himself for posing the question to them. They have worked very hard for years and their mum has been their pillar. There is nothing a mother would not do for her children's happiness so how do you know it was not a voluntary sacrifice? Leave God to judge them if it is so but don't rub salt in their wounds. The loss of a mother is very painful. |
They should stop insulting us, jare. I have done several IQ tests myself and made higher than average scores. Many questions are on historical facts of foreign origin or involve spatial concepts which are not found in our environment. They should design tests based on our own setting and then score us. |
I've been calling you with an MTN no. Please call or text back. Are you in Lagos? |
Please do you have females of about 1yr? I have two gorgeous males with me now. I bought one but the other was sort of left with me and I've grown too fond of both of them. |
Try www.lostinlagos.com. It's organized by expatriates in Lagos. |
Your definition of mild is very funny but again it only shows the kind of person you are. 1. I never said that mothers should wean at 4months. My sister's situation was unique because we had a full-time working mother and like some children, by 4 months, she was no longer satisfied with only the breast milk my mother produced. 2. Your answer about gluten and infants - http://celiacdisease.about.com/od/raisingaglutenfreechild/a/Breastfeeding.htm 3. R.D.A.s are guidelines. Even the iron content that is supposedly high for infants does not take into consideration that we live in a malaria and hookworm endemic environment. 4. Thank you so much for giving me a idea for a new study. Please Mothers, when introducing new food to your infants, vary the diet. I will from hereon defer to the Mr. Know-it-all on this thread. |
helixmanager: I am surprisedIt is a pity that some people on this forum lack basic manners when it comes to addressing others. I will take your insults with a pinch of salt since your use of language shows that you are not worth my time. I maintain that my personal experience and that of so many women in Nigeria with Golden morn shows that it is a nutritious meal for kiddies who can tolerate it. The contents are maize, sugar and soya, all staple ingredients in our day diet in Nigeria. All the other ingredients listed on the pack are routine supplements. Traditionally, we give infants the same ingredients as pap, a staple food for women of lower socio-economic groups in Nigeria. Even if you visit the doctor with your child today and he or she is refusing meals or not thriving, pap is usually recommended and can be mixed with other foods such as blended groundnuts or crayfish to boost their nutrition. If it is good enough for that, there is no reason a child would not tolerate the same ingredients in Golden morn. The only thing is that it is not processed in the same way infant foods are. So, as I said previously, if your child tolerates it well, there is really no problem with it. The only trace ingredient that may be harmful there is Gluten, a naturally occurring substance found in most cereals and grains. Some people are intolerant and will develop celiac disease over time but it is uncommon in our environment. Please feel free to google the same information for yourselves. It is readily available on the internet. |
I'm a doctor and I've been a Golden morn fan since it came out when I was a kid. My sister has been eating it since she was 4 months old and is now a perfectly healthy 28yr old. The only reason for the warning is that the formula is not made for easy digestion in children, not that it is harmful in anyway. It is still a nutritious and very balanced meal. However some young children may not digest it properly especially with the new maize formula so you need to observe their stool and look for poorly digested content. If you find it, you'll need to wait till the child is older. There is no need for any panic. |
Zeus I: Let's see, if God put a curse on you, it will destroy you and your generation to the fourth, but if he curse your graet-great-grand father(whom i suppose are demise), you; as the surviving generation will be destroyed. So, in the name of God who created those children you are mocking their mother, I curse your great-great-grand father, so you will die a childless man with prostitutes as wife in Jesus name!Is your curse necessary? How do you know that it won't go back to you? |
It seems like a laughing matter but it's not. If you check the state budget for maintenance of that zoo, I bet you'll find that it would feed these animals 10 times over but is being siphoned into someone's purse. Preservation of wild life is necessary for ecological stability. The poor animals! If they couldn't maintain them, they should have arranged their transfer to other international zoos who would only be too happy to have them. |
The guy who is in a blue t-shirt 2nd from left looks a lot like the plank guy to me. |
@babzilla, your comment is not called for. Even animals have rights in the rest of the world. People are prosecuted if they kill animals brutally, not to talk of their fellow human beings. These boys murderers acted in the most inhumane manner possible and should be dealt with. |
God is not and never will be three. He is ONE God. Please, no one should misquote what the Catholic Church teaches. I may not worship with them anymore but I debated this question even as a child during cathecism. There is only one God. The Father, the creator has the His spoken word made flesh (Jesus Christ) while the Holy Spirit is the comforter sent to minister to and interceed for us after Christ was taken up to heaven. They are one in Godness, holiness and purity but distinct persons with different characteristics. |
plaetton: Good points.- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disciple_whom_Jesus_loved - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_John - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_the_Apostle Please read these articles. It was a question posed in bible study over 15 yrs ago and I clearly remember the explanation we concluded. |
I think the poster is trying to imply a situation where the boyfriend is presently financially constrained and want to show his real self and situation to his girlfriend. The best thing is to play along unless you truly cannot cope with it. No condition is permanent and he might appreciate the gesture so much, it will increase his devotion to you. At least, before you get to that stage, you should have gotten to know him for his other qualities. If he is a no future ambition kind of person, what are you doing with him in the first place? Another thing I have noticed with guys is that they can sell their last possession to invest in a potentially successful deal so he may actually be about to strike it big and if you get angry and walk away when the chips are down, you might miss out on the good stuff that comes later. |
From my understanding, the phrase " the disciple whom Jesus loved" was only used by John himself in the Gospel of John to refer to himself. It is generally accepted that he was the youngest disciple and was most likely the "pet" of the group. This is evidenced by the fact that he is thought to have outlived all the other disciples by far. That does not however imply that Jesus played favorites. It was often Peter that was praised for his faith. It is believed that the reason He does not say a name is that he wants to emphasize his relationship with Christ without making himself the focus. |
I'm very much a floor person myself. I would rather stretch out comfortably on the floor than sleep on a bed without a firm mattress. It's great for re-aligning your spine. When we were in Uni, most of us put our mattresses on the floor. The only problem is that I must not meet any rodents or mosquitoes because then he'll have to carry me for the rest of the night. |
Your boyfriend may not be fat at 120kg because BMI does not always account for muscle mass. Well built individuals often have BMIs above 25 and there is new research to prove that. That being said, I think your suitor means well by encouraging you to eat better because your weight is quite low. At your height you should weigh closer to 50kg but you cannot grow bosoms or buttocks for him. If he is not satisfied with you now, he will definitely stray when you're married. You need someone who truly appreciates you the way you are and sees beyond your looks because looks fade with time. I think you should let him know he hurt you with his words and see his reaction. If he is not remorseful, give him some space and pray for someone else. You're still young and shouldn't be rushing into a lifetime commitment with a man who does not truly value you. |
It's entirely your choice and should not be controlled by custom. The concept of a "best man" came about in Ancient Europe when men had to gather friends to go hunting and raiding for women. In Africa here, in communities like the Yoruba, they assist in begging for the wife from the family. The true concept is however, a true friend of the groom who can help him, not just with the wedding but as a support system throughout your marriage. The questions are "who is this woman?","is she a mutual friend to you both?", "Does your wife and family respect her?", "is she trustworthy?" and "Does she give sound advice?". For example, if you were only two and you had been through a lot together, you could choose to use your own sister. If your bride is okay with it, don't hold onto traditions if you don't want to. They are always evolving anyway. It's your day and you should be able to share it with those that matter. P.S. You can call her "The Matron of Honour." |
Just too bad! |
@all4naija, you wouldn't accept it if it hit you in the eye but I said that I am totally convinced. What you choose to believe is up to you but God doesn't lie. |
I googled "Do animals think research" and got all these. The consensus is that animals think but they are still trying to determine the level of meta cognition. Some of them even think about thinking. Some believe that they think like autistic children who do not apply their senses in the "normal" way we do. Also, the Bible tells me in the story of Balaam (Numbers 22:21-35) that the donkey he was riding could think and sensed the presence of the angel before he did. God only opened her mouth. He also showed that He loves animals because he told Balaam that if she had not turned him away, He would have killed him but spared her(Vs. 32). I don't need anymore conviction than that. http://www.livescience.com/5712-animals-thinking-research-suggests.html http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2002/03.14/01-thinking.html http://cqresearcherblog..com/2010/10/do-animals-think.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2002/dec/18/hunting.animalwelfare http://discovermagazine.com/2005/may/what-do-animals-think http://discovermagazine.com/2012/jul-aug/06-what-is-your-dog-thinking http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/03/animal-minds/virginia-morell-text |
Animals teach their offspring how to hunt, gather food, respect their group hierarchy and communicate. Doesn't that require thinking? |
The state of Lagos does not have the power to deport people based on origin. Please read the highlighted portions of the Nigerian constitution. 15. (1) The motto of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. (2) Accordingly, national integration shall be actively encouraged, whilst discrimination on the grounds of place of origin, sex, religion, status, ethnic or linguistic association or ties shall be prohibited. (3) For the purpose of promoting national integration, it shall be the duty of the State to: (a) provide adequate facilities for and encourage free mobility of people, goods and services throughtout the Federation. (b) secure full residence rights for every citizen in all parts of the Federation. (c) encourage inter-marriage among persons from different places of origin, or of different religious, ethnic or linguistic association or ties; and (d) promote or encourage the formation of associations that cut across ethnic, linguistic, religious and or other sectional barriers. (4) The State shall foster a feeling of belonging and of involvement among the various people of the Federation, to the end that loyalty to the nation shall override sectional loyalties. (5) The State shall abolish all corrupt practices and abuse of power. That being clarified I shall cease to waste my time on this argument. If the frustrated Lagos indigenes want, they can go and write their own constitution. |
@Shymmex, to put this in perspective for you, who is an american? It can be a person of american descent, a person born in America or a person who has immigrated into America and has satisfied the constitutional requirement for citizenship. All of you trying to make it tribalistic or indigenous have failed because the question did not ask who is an indigene of Lagos State. So even the Lebanese born here who wish to can claim to be Lagosians and there is nothing anyone can do about it. |
@sbeezy8, the point I'm making is that even in societies like America today, there are citizens who are jobless today but are not prepared to stoop to do the menial work in order to survive but prefer to make themselves a burden to the society on welfare while the immigrants gradually come in and build their economy. Do you know that as of 2011, there are now more babies born to immigrant families in America than to the natives and pioneer descendants? History repeats itself. In Lagos, you find many young men of "yoruba" origin idling their time away instead of getting employment so people will stroll in and do their jobs for them. When they have put in so much effort, repatriating them becomes extremely difficult as you can see with the Latino population in the US. Why doesn't the Lagos State government work on tightening the borders first? I have personally strolled between Nigeria and Benin several times without any difficulty. If non-Nigerians can easily enter the state, why should true Nigerians who are gainfully employed attain refugee status in Lagos? P.S. I am not condemning yoruba people or saying they are lazy in general but a lot of their youth now feel entitled to misbehave rather than work hard. |
@shymmex, it is because of persons like yourself that I rarely comment on Nairaland. I was merely stating the facts of the situation and if you don't agree, please use your brain to make an intellectual argument against it but kindly refrain from addressing me in such a manner again. If you read my post properly, I said my maternal grandfather contributed to the development of Lagos and fought for independence. I never said I claim Lagos. |
People will always find ways to segregate rather than integrate. There is no one indigenous to anywhere in the world if you want to be honest about it. From caveman to modern man, people move about in search of better pastures or why else are Nigerians prepared to go wash toilets and dead bodies in America? The principles of economy dictate that people will migrate for prosperity in search of a better life and as long as people legitimately enter an environment and contribute to the growth of the economy, why should there be a problem of origin? These are the contributing factors that are developing societies such as the United States and Great Britain. They keep those who make meaningful contributions and weed out the chaff. Fashola should tackle the Agberos and Omo-oniles Tinubu created first as they are the miscreants in Society. You can hardly find Igbos who are idle, they hustle. If you do a ratio of boys selling stuff in traffic, 5:1 is an Igbo person. The truth is if a people are lazy, the outsiders they bring in to do their work will over time dominate them. It is the reason that Pharoah tried to kill the Hebrew children. He should focus on empowerment programs instead of claiming over population. Yes, Lagos is densely populated but it is also the largest workforce in the country which gives it the most viable growth potential. For people who have been here above 15 yrs, it might be too late to start evicting them now. |
Lagos can never claim to be a place with only indigenous roots, For one, a lot of the land in Lagos is reclaimed. Who was occupying it before then. Two, there were many people who settled here before independence and contributed to the growth and development of the place. It would be impossible to chase away their descendants now. My maternal grandfather though half Igbo and half Ghanaian was a Councillor in Lagos as far back as 1953. There were also several resettled slaves who have intermarried with the communities. 95% of the families on Lagos Island have them. Three, this is a federation and our constitution gives all Nigerian citizens the right to live anywhere in the country so long as they are not convicted criminals. The governors you have in Lagos, Tinubu and Fashola inclusive are not full blooded Lagosians so who are they fooling? |
I have raised close to 20 dogs in my life, have had a pet parrot, lived with a cat during youth service, kept pet rabbits, goldfish and turtles. I can categorically tell you that the two dogs I have at the moment have the intelligence of a 2-3yr old without the speech. They know when I go out and come in and all the corners of our building. They understand several words including sit, stand, come, up, fetch, stop it, move and bye-bye. If I shout bye-bye from anywhere within their hearing, they will run to me to ensure I don't leave them alone. They have toys they play with and share taking turns to do. They understand that they should respect each other when eating so if I put food in a bowl, one will eat first while the other waits. They know when anyone is in pain and will come to lick the person to comfort them. They also observe people's behaviors to distinguish if they are trustworthy of predatory before approaching them. There was a day I bought sugarcane when one of them was a 3month old puppy so I gave him a piece. He obviously loved it because in a few minutes, he came back to sit beside me looking at me to give him more. When I ignore him for a while, he did something that astonished me. He got up on his hind legs and used his left paw to tap my thigh twice. I gave him a piece and he left. When he finished it, he repeated the same behavior and kept doing it for about six times till there was no more sugar cane between us. This was something I never taught him and since I had him since about 6wks of age, no one else could have taught him. The cat during my youth service knew when I was around and when I traveled, she would go else where. My parrot lived on the balcony and could see from the bus-stop from up there. As soon as he sighted me coming from school in my uni days, he would start repeating the words I had taught him, songs and my name. The goldfish and turtles recognized me and would raise their heads for me to stroke if I came near the tank and I'm the only one they did this for. There are so many incidents that show me they think. The truth is that they may not have our level of intelligence but they have other types. Can you detect smell like a dog or swim like a dolphin. In short, I thank God, He didn't give them the most destructive of all human vices, the spirit of greed. They live in the moment though some may save food for a rainy day but apart from that they are just glad to be alive and carefree. You've got to admire that. |
