Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has come for the Ooni of Ife, saying its a shame the monarch said Jesus Christ is his father. At a church service in June in the US, the Ooni said he has a father and that Jesus is his father. Seun in the interview with Sahara TV, said the Ooni's statement is shameful after all the rituals he did before his ascension to the throne. He said the Ooni's statement is an insult to the throne that is older than him, his lineage and anything that he thinks he knows. Read it after the cut... "Its just a shame. Its just like saying that the Queen of England says the Pope is her father. If she says she no longer believes in the Anglican church of England and Archbishop of Canterbury and she swears allegiance to the Pope who is a fellow christian but a catholic, she will leave that throne that day. That will be the last day she will be the Queen of England. So for the Ooni to say he is the son of Jesus is cap over face, Shame! Shame! Shame! Especially after all the rituals he has done to become king of Yoruba people. It is literal when they say to become King in Yoruba land you have to eat the king (the previous king). Yes he is the king of everybody. British people are Muslims too, Ifa worshipers too but it doesn't mean the Queen will pander to them by going to worship with them. No, but she respects their rights to freedom and accommodation as the King, that is your duty but to go and start pandering with them is an embarrassment to a throne that is older than him, to a throne that is older than his lineage, to a thrown that is older than anything that he thinks he knows. There is another king like him, I have forgotten his name, one little young idiot that goes around saying it is the rituals that our ancestors have done that is why people are suffering so his throne is now a Christian, he is a Christian king. I mean it is just nonsense. If the Ooni can say that, I can see how one little stupid idiot that they also gave a crown too can say the same rubbish"he said Watch the full interview here - starts 11.00mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWvIadp5PQQ source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/08/seun-kuti-blast-ooni-of-ife-for-calling.html cc lalasticlala

A 26-year-old barber named Zuri, mysteriously passed away in Lagos after stepping out to sneeze but ended up vomiting blood. According to journalist Femi Owolabi, because of the amount of blood around the young man's body, the crowd which had gathered did not risk coming close and were unwilling to assist in taking him to the hospital. When a truck was eventually used to convey Zuri to a private hospital, they were not allowed to go in. A doctor came out to check the body, pronounced him dead and ordered that they take the body away immediately as he was not their patient. Narrating what happened, Femi said; I just returned to Lagos, and in my usual routine, I retire to a local bar where the discourse around local and national politics is being fuelled by drinks. Zuri, 26, one of those boys who migrated from the village to seek greener pastures in Lagos, runs the saloon beside the bar. When in Lagos, Zuri barbed me. I couldn't wait to return from the northeast for Zuri to attend to my bushy hair. He barbed almost perfectly. Yesterday, since I'm on a self-imposed 'leave' in Lagos, we had resumed at the bar early where a friend was hosting me to a bottle of Alomo Bittters. Zuri sat with us, he sat beside me, and we were telling him on how to improve on the business and not spend all his earnings on women and drinks. We were all together for hours before he left to see a barber friend of his. Barely two hours later, one of Zuri's friends in the neighbourhood rushed in. His face was soaked with tears, and he was screaming, 'Zuri! Zuri!!' I gulped down the content in my mouth. 'What's wrong with Zuri?!' we collectively asked the friend. 'He is vomiting blood... he is...' In no time, we arrived at the scene, some 6km away. I met a circle of crowd around my barber. Blood in his nose, eyes, mouth, and ears. And he looked lifeless. I shut my eyes. I opened them. I shut my eyes again. And I opened them again. Because of the too much blood, perhaps, the crowd feared touching him. I moved closer and held his hand, and checked the inside of his wrist to feel his pulse. 'Where is the nearest hospital?' I asked his barber friend whom he had come to see. The friend was already running mad. 'Ha! I've never seen this kind of thing,' he cried. 'He barbed me here in my shop, and he just stepped out to sneeze and that was how blood started coming out of his mouth and nose.' The nearest hospital was about 4km away. Unfortunately, no one was willing to give us a car to move him. We settled for a wheelbarrow one Mai-Ruwa offered and we sped off to the hospital. While we pushed him, I continually called out his name, checking his chest if he was still breathing. 'He's gone,' the doctor announced. We weren't even allowed to move him inside. The doctor came out with his stethoscope to check him. It's a private hospital and after a while, the doctor became so uncomfortable and he called on me to come take his corpse away. That he wasn't their patient. I got so confused, not knowing what next to do. I had earlier called the Lagos Emergency line. They arrived to meet him dead. 'We don't pick dead bodies,' I was told. 'So what do we do?' I asked. 'Call the Emergency line again, there are ambulances that would come pick him.' I called, gave my details and the address of the place we were. 'We are coming,' I was told. After about an hour, I called again. 'We are coming,'. I was told. The doctor was getting angry. He called on me. 'Take this corpse away!' he boomed. I begged him for more time. Since the Lagos Emergency guys ain't forthcoming, I asked where we could hire an ambulance. I didn't get any suggestion. The friend, eventually, got in touch with Zuri's family. And we were told to bring his corpse to their village, somewhere in Ogun State. I, with some other guys, rushed down to the nearest police station to get a police report. We were gonna be delayed and extorted, but I had to use my connection with the top police guys. Dark already. No ambulance. And we just had to use a Danfo to move Zuri to his village. 'He is the first child of his mother, and anytime he goes visiting the mother in the village, he buys beverages and all for her,' Zuri's neighbour told me. Since yesterday, I am yet to fully understand what led to the death of a young man who sat beside me few hours before the announcement of his death. source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/08/photos-nigerian-man-mysteriously-dies.html cc lalasticlala

Tarila Okah, the daughter of the suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombing, Charles Okah, has written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. Read full letter below: Your Excellency, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari President, Commander-in-Chief Federal Republic of Nigeria Dear President Buhari, I hope this letter reaches you in good health. My name is Tarila Okah, daughter of Mr. Charles Okah, who is currently remanded at Kuje Prison and standing trial before Hon. Justice Gabriel Kolawole at the Federal High Court in Abuja over the 2010 Independence Day bomb incident. Mr. President, I am writing this letter principally to draw your attention, the entire people of Nigeria, and members of the international community to what I perceive as injustice being wilfully and maliciously meted to my father by the Nigerian state. Within the last 10 months, disturbing media reports about his attempt to commit suicide at the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 6, 2015 and his failing health are sad reminders of the harsh reality of my father’s frustration with the judicial system in Nigeria, which is notorious for elastic trials that can drag on for years on end and wear out all parties. It is rather unfortunate that several court dates in the course of my father’s trial have been cancelled either because the presiding Trial Judge had a conference to attend or for other reasons that brings disrepute to the Nigerian justice system. For instance, the Prosecutor Dr. Alex Izinyon, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria failed to attend one of the trials on a date that had been agreed upon beforehand, instead choosing to attend his child’s graduation ceremony abroad. With all due respect, Mr. President, no democratic Government anywhere in the world, including Canada where I currently reside, would treat a prisoner’s attempt at suicide as well as the prisoner’s failing health, with disdain. Such a peculiar prisoner’s case ought to be concluded speedily by the Judiciary. Alternatively, such a Prisoner of Conscience as my father, should be granted bail. However, from all indications, the Nigerian Government is clearly insensitive to his plight. Your Excellency, I have consulted with several Nigerian lawyers who have sufficiently educated me that, pursuant to Section 162 of the new Criminal Justice Administration Law in the country, my father is entitled to bail; having spent more than 3 years in prison custody. Nevertheless, Hon. Justice Gabriel Kolawole has on two previous occasions overruled my father’s applications for bail. However, the pace of the trial has still not been picked up. Meanwhile, Justice Kolawole in 2011 easily granted bail to Senator Ali Ndume who was standing trial for terrorism as an alleged sponsor of Boko Haram. Today, after being re-elected on the platform of your party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ndume is the Majority Leader of Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, the Senate, while my father (who is equally as important to society) is still languishing in prison as an inmate awaiting trial; almost 6 years after he was first arrested on October 16, 2010 on suspicion of being “JOMO GBOMO,” the spokesman for the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). Interestingly, Nigerian media perception about my father’s culpability in the Independence Day bomb incident keeps changing. At first, he was accused of being the spokesperson of MEND. Later, he was described as an accomplice to the alleged crime; after the media and the Nigerian Government realised that ‘Jomo Gbomo’ was still releasing statements on behalf of MEND, even as my father was firmly held in custody! Now he is accused of being the mastermind. Thus far, the prosecution has relied heavily on ‘witnesses’, all of whom have contradicted their statements under cross examination. In a recent court sitting, a witness from the Department of State Security (DSS) who introduced himself as a ‘Crime Scene Investigator’ admitted that, “no evidence was collected at the crime scene”. While another witness who supposedly ‘sold’ a Mazda car to the 2nd Defendant, admitted under cross-examination that, the very first time he set his eyes on the said Mazda car (Exhibit 2) was “at the premises of the DSS Abuja Headquarters.” Without prejudice to his ongoing trial before Hon. Justice Gabriel Kolawole, I honestly believe that my father is innocent of the crimes alleged against him. Over the 6 year period of his incarceration and trial, his businesses which employed many Nigerians have collapsed; his family is in disarray. Years apart, especially under such circumstances, often dissolves the emotional bonds between a husband and his wife, and for my much younger siblings who have now spent more time without their father, there are virtually no emotional bonds to be dissolved. On a more personal note, I will be getting married in a few weeks; albeit without the privilege of having my beloved father walk me down the aisle – the dream of every daughter. I feel an admixture of joy and pain as this day approaches knowing that my father is alive but held somewhere unjustly. Clearly, my siblings and I are being punished vicariously by the Nigerian state over crimes allegedly committed by our father which have not been proven beyond reasonable doubt by a court of competent jurisdiction. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, the mere act of filing even trumped-up charges carries along with it a strong presumption of guilt, which has led to my father’s conviction in the court of public opinion and has also led to the abuse of his fundamental human rights. I know that some Nigerians, on reading this open letter, will attack me for daring to appeal for my father’s freedom. But my message to those compatriots is simple: it is high time we focused on finding the real perpetrators. Finally, Mr. President, in your determined quest to fight corruption in Nigeria, I believe that the concept of corruption should be expanded beyond financial crimes. We must also fight corruption in the system, and in this case, the judicial system. We have witnessed the speedy handling of cases involving high profile politicians, but a very sluggish process for others. The joy of my upcoming marriage plus the pain of a missing father (who is alive) equates to the simple plea: #PLEASEFREECHARLESOKAH! source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/07/charles-okah-daughter-writes-emotion.html cc lalasticlala
