Yugoslavia247: In Nigeria we have many reasons marriage is not working
Poverty poverty Exactly what I wrote. People underestimate the effect of poverty on marriages. So many many marriage have been stretched to the limit due to poverty. So many are the brink of collapsing due to poverty. Have seen typical traditional so called good African women open up after been pushed to the wall by poverty in marriages claiming they wish to exit the marriage if not for stigma. Have heard this statement from my mom, my aunt who is my mom immediate younger sister, my sister in-law married and struggling in marriage, many FWB and Ex etc Most of them are scared of what the future holds for them if they leave, the stigma and shame to their own family, what the pastor and church will say. Religion really plays a big role while most are staying. Likewise African culture but both are wading away and we are seeing the rise of women who are not culturally inclined and don't give a damn what the society will say. They pack out without looking back, they multi date many men without caring who talks, they do so many horrible things without caring whose horse is gored. |

dettolgel: The main reason is that in UK people stop pretending and show their real self.
Here in Nigeria 99.9% of marriages are pretend-marriage.
Remove the social signma associated with single motherhood or divorcee and watch most of the marriage pack up. So true. If there is no stigma against divorcing and single motherhood, oboy divorce go plenty pass condom. Many women are enduring marriages due to many factors. Finance - I know atleast 5 women who have declared to me that if not for stigma, they would have packed out of the marriage they are due to poverty. From my observation, I think poverty will take 70% of the reason why most women are tired and exhausted in marriages. Infidelity - many women will rather endure with a providing man than staying alone while poverty and hardship strikes them down. |

What you are proposing is not a bad idea either but a person's pocket can take a brutal hit with long vacation stays. Attached are screenshots of my posts from 2021 when Smile4mee01 created a thread asking if people had any regrets about returning to Naija from the diaspora.
These are real people I know well and personally and these were honest conversations. Some without prompting or me prying, shared their thoughts during normal conversations. It wasn't a Q & A session with me firing questions at them.
Link to his thread here https://www.nairaland.com/6704962/nigerians-returned-abroad-regret#104856572 Class I understand your points very well. I also don't fancy Japa because I feel more relaxed and happy around my people and won't mind sacrificing a promise of a larger wealth to staying back and living moderate but then, I won't want us to overlook some advantages abroad over Nigeria. In the west, they have a robust economy where everyone fits in no matter your skill, talent and knowledge be it mechanic, barber, musician, footballer, boxer, athlete, bike rider formula 1 etc. Africa economy is too rigid, too traditional and predictable for 21st century economy. Africa population is becoming too huge for the type of economy we run. We need to open up our economy else disaster is coming. If you are not in the oil and gas sector or IT or 1 or 2 other viable sectors, you can't live a decent modern life. What kind of economy is that? Also, our economy managers aka politicians are so useless that they are not even saving for the raining days. Reason why our economy can't even absorb any external shocks like oil price slump in international market. Immediately we feel the effect in the economy. Immediately with a naira crash and so many more. Let me just stop here |

There is a reason why tourist or visitor visa was created. If you like a place and you are not certain what the future holds for you if you Japa, go on a visit. A 2 months visit there will make you draw your proper plan instead of permanent residency or student visa. Just go and see things for yourself so as to avoid any lamentation. Is that hard to do? And it is even cheaper. Instead of using 15 to 20m for care work visa or student visa, use like 3m for visit and draw your plans. |

pansophist: They want to dump Ukraine and focus on China. They've seen that Ukraine was a bad geopolitical mistake, and it has triggered global dedollarisation.
You know that they've admitted defeat when Nato secretary Jan Stoltenberg is advising Elensky to forego the annexed territories and sue for peace.
But Russia is not the real threat, it's China. China has global interest, from the BRI, to Petro Yuan, couple with their economical might and being the leader of Brics.
If they defeat China, then Russia will be less powerful and confined to Europe/Central Asia only. So they have to act fast because waiting is dangerous.
China grew so big in just few decades, they can't afford to waste time to make China more stronger and harder to slow or defeat. So all this while. All the shout of democracy, human rights blah blah blah is just for their own interest. What is the problem if another country surpasses you? If not that they don't have good interest of others. See how they are planning to bring down other countries publicly as if it is a good thing. What kind of a devilish country is that? God forbid |

uche87: This piece isn't aimed at discouraging anyone from relocating to the United Kingdom. The country has the 6th largest economy in the world and it offers massive economic opportunities for both the young and old. It is also beautiful and gives maximum exposure to people. But things are changing and they are changing rapidly. You need to be mentally prepared before you get ambushed by harsh reality. Keep the following factors in mind when trying to take the plunge.
(1) Limited job opportunities: As a fresh immigrant, it takes the grace of God to crack the white-collar job circle. Even if you get white-collar jobs, most of them don't offer visa sponsorships. So, they can't guarantee you any desired visa extensions. To someone who wants to stay back in the UK after studying, what's the point? For the blue-collar sector which apparently admits every willing or unwilling human being available, the jobs are disappearing. You must have heard viral stories of people on healthcare visas not getting shifts. As if this isn't enough, job opportunities are drying up in the less desired warehouses where hard labour is rife. The warehouses constituted the last hope of the common man those days. If you are hoping to gather money to pay your school fees from hustling in the UK, you might need to have a rethink.
(2) 20hrs Work Limitation: In recent times, there have been strong rumours of student visas being canceled by the Home Office, after the holders failed to stick to the 20-hour work restriction in a week. It is one of the most traumatic experiences an immigrant can face abroad. Imagine you are getting an email that your visa has been cancelled, while you are just settling in, with a huge debt hanging over your head. You might strongly consider detonating a Kim Jong Un-like bomb in your village to annihilate any witch/wizard that might be linked to your predicament.
(3) Housing Crisis: The housing crisis in the UK is so severe that people now take their house-hunting activities to the NSPPD altar at 7 a.m. It is not just about the exorbitant prices alone, it is about the stiff competition you will face from other applicants. It is as competitive as applying for civil service jobs in Nigeria and India. These so-called accommodations come in the form of "poultry" due to the relatively small sizes. They also come with massive paperwork that could be cumbersome for a new immigrant to satisfy. This isn't the challenge an immigrant wants to face due to its overwhelming nature.
(4) High Cost Of Living: Living costs constitute a global issue and it is highly multi-factorial in nature. Major cities in the UK like London, Manchester, Sheffield, Bristol, Birmingham, etc., have been hit by mass migration, thereby straining available public facilities. People with permanent jobs are feeling the heat not to talk of the casual workers living from one unassured shift to the other. For a man converting naira to pounds to cater for daily expenditure in the UK, the thoughts of running away, or committing suicide might be crossing his mind, at least 4 times in a day.
(5) Low Chances Of Staying Back: The chances of international students staying back in the UK after schooling are getting slimmer than the popular Nollywood actress, Lepa Shandy by the day. Before you know it, your 2-year post-study period would have elapsed and you might have to return home. Before now, healthcare visas have come to the rescue. Today, the opportunities have been abused and the forces of demand and supply have also affected sponsorship opportunities in the healthcare line. If you think you can easily marry a citizen to stay back, you might have to buy some anti-depressants, as a backup plan.
In conclusion, the best way to easily scale through these hurdles, and weather the storm might be by owning one of President Tinubu's controversial bullion vans.

Until today, the world needed the US dollar in its Central Bank reserves to initiate global trade and transactions. Not having the US dollar as a reserve led to catastrophic consequences, including the risk of an economic collapse. Remember what happened to Sri lanka just a year ago? However, things took a U-turn after the BRICS summit, as the alliance announced the end of trading in the US dollar. The writing on the wall is pretty clear, as countries want to distance themselves from the debt-ridden dollar. Pushing and promoting local currencies henceforth is the only way to reap the rewards of the global economy. https://watcher.guru/news/us-europe-to-pay-local-currencies-for-oil-after-brics-expansion#google_vignette |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Multipolarism Versus Hegemonism - The Great Power Shift Of The 21st Century by emmaodet: 8:45am On Aug 28, 2023 |
Let us just Imagine a day when the US, Europe, and other Western allies keep local currencies as reserves to settle oil trade deals. If not, the transaction will fail to go through, and the shipment will be recalled for non-clearance of dues. The US and Europe could be headed for such a situation if BRICS puts ‘payments in local currencies only’ for oil and gas settlements.
I hope they will experience what they have been doing to other countries and let's see how they will manipulate currencies and banking sector to their advantage. We will now see how their so called robust and diversified economy can withstand devaluation and inflation. Thieves |

Regex: Just like Pansophist said, the West will give BRICS the nail to nail her coffin. As for breaking up Brazil, if they could do it, they wouldn't come on social media to announce it, rather they will be at work doing all the can to achieve their aims. All they just did is to try and scare Brazil. They can't even achieve their aim not with Russia and China backing. Perhaps they have been trying in the dark without success and are trying to use insecurities to see if they can achieve their aim. I hope this guy's can be put in the corner where they belong honestly because hey have no good plans for the rest of the world |

But nothing spoil, 20 children no fit play together for 20 years. Many of my friends have left too and it feels somehow. In my own case, it is even different because I can't afford to fail here. Many of my friends and family have told me to leave severally for years because I am even in a good position to. I have good traveling history, money to fund my account etc but decided to stay back so if I get broke along the line, everyone will soooooo abuse me that why didn't I leave when I had the opportunity to. To even make matters worst, my father in-law more or less had my type of lifestyle, opportunities then when he was working as a doctor in saudi and made a lot of money. His mates later moved down to UK and US since they couldn't naturalize in saudi and are doing fine. He came back later, invested in pharmacy and poultry but flopped and now he is broke, washed up and has stroke due to overthinking. I just pray I am not towing that path too. Occasionally my wife do give me that subtle jab of "you know we can't afford to fail" pressure at me. That she hopes we know and are sure of what we are doing. Anyway, I plan to even go to that UK and Canada sef to go do 1 month each and see for myself how things are then we come back and decide on what we want. Not what agent says or friends or what we read on social media. Since I have the finance, let me just go with my family and let us see with our eyes. Visit visa then we decide on what we want |

All the Yahoo boys, yahoo pastors, polithiefcians, bad governance, corruption, nepotism, tribalism, and so forth, will bite Nigerians for sure. We can't escape it. It's the nature of life.
Nigeria effectively is a landlocked country. Minus ecowas, there is no place Nigerians can visit. The ecowas sef is based on luck, when Nigeria was still good. Our ecowas neighbors, many don't like us.
A tiny country like Finland for example, has at least seven international airports serving it, with a population of just 5M people. Nigeria has over 210 million, and just two major international airports (Abuja and Lagos).
And the two don't have much airline traffic compared to let's say, Accra. More airline flies to Accra than Lagos. A so-called giant of Africa with such a sad tale. I don't think more airlines fly to Ghana than Nigeria.
