Please who has information on using Ethiopia airline to Canada? I want to book flight against next month.
Thanks sir/ma
You need to be specific on what information you seek so that people that have used them can respond.

Meanwhile, you can send a mail to them too to make your enquiries or call their customer care line directly which is faster.

Why are you travelling with so much foodstuff? Are you going to a camp where there is little food? huh
For a newcomer in Canada, who may not be financially buoyant as you might be, buying food here within those early days can be considered 'expensive'. Remember they are yet to start making money in dollars and what those prices amount to when converted to naira usually come as a shock.

Again, someone who have stayed in Canada for a while might have had his or her taste buds adjusted to the food here, but we cannot say the same for the newcomers.

So, if space is not an issue let the person pack as much food stuff as possible and is allowed that can take him or her for a long time before they finally integrate. Anyone who says otherwise will not be there to pay the bills for him or her when it starts.

This is so true. I know someone who made a similar switch and had a significant bump in pay. He took the Google analytics course offered by Google. Took him a few months and was very affordable.

@Emmasonic4me you can look into taking that course when you're done with sch.
Alright Sir. I will consider that. Thanks

Don't border yourself it will drop once they are done with it. Remember your passport will go to Nairobi for the visa stamping. Just be patient. It will surely end in praise. Congratulations
I'm just wondering if these passports are actually sent to Nairobi for the Visa stamp to be affixed on them considering the logistics and turnaround time. Do you think otherwise?

Not to veer off topic or be "that guy", but this your course is a very good platform for switching into data science/analytics with the potential to double that pay of a credit risk analyst.
I actually have an eye on that but I'm not really sure how to launch a career in that field. Maybe take a bootcamp afterwards? I know that's your field of specialty as I've been following you for a long time now and I'll be grateful to have you as a mentor in that regards. Please can I send you a PM if you don't mind?

Hey @ednut1, it has been a long time. I am glad to see that you are still on here.

In 2009 I took a job as a credit analyst (processing credit cards applications) in one of the major American banks with an extension in Canada.(Citibank).
Citibank have few extensions in Canada known as Citi Financial, Citicards Canada .... I was working for Citicards Canada.
The pay was $15/hour (close to 30K/year) for a credit analyst at that ime. But, given that I was bilingual I was making $17/hours (close to 34K/year).

I am surprised that the annual income of a credit analyst to be 65K in today market (more than the double of what it used to be back in 2009).
Adding to that, I know people working for TD bank in different department with wages ranging from 40K to 50K. That is why I was expecting a credit analyst at TD to be making about the same.

In any case, I am happy for @slydog for getting a 65K credit analyst job at TD. And good luck to him.

@Emmasonic4me
I see. I actually have some experience from Nigeria in that job role and currently studying Actuarial Mathematics at Concordia University, Montreal, hence my curiosity. Thanks for clarifying.

Credit analyst at TD making 65K ? Hmmm…
Anyway, congratulations and good luck.
What exactly are you trying to insinuate? Is 65k too much or too little for the Credit Analyst role at TD? Please could you make your statement/position less ambiguous?

Guys! Finally the remaining part of the puzzle was solved this morning after more than 28 emails and webforms back to back. Remember my kids got PPR on 28 June 2022 while my spouse got medical request. The medicals was done July 14th at IOM and the stamped passports of the kids was gotten back from abuja VSF of July 15th. Iom sent the result for medical on July 21st and IRCC uploaded that same day. Then another wait began and i started sending emails and webforms also at some point contacted my mp again. Yesterday morning we got BVL but this morning around 3.20am EDT she go the PPR. At last exactly 1year and 7days becos the application was submitted 22nd July 2021.
It has ended in praises. While waiting for her PPR i already booked airfrance for september just to buy time and also pay less flight fees even at that i paid pass 3k CAD
Congratulations bro. Thank God it ended in praises.

Please any tips for getting a house in Canada before landing. I have too many little kids so I’d prefer to get a house b4 we travel but I’ve been on Facebook marketplace and Kijiji for over two weeks now and all of them are asking for pay stubs, credit check and the rest, even when I say we can pay 2-3 months in advance. I’ve contacted some agents too, same thing. I need new ideas
Consider renting an Airbnb apartment for a short while. Once you're inside Canada, your chances of getting an apartment for rent will increase since you can now meet the landlord in person.

Good evening house

This is my first time asking a question here although I have been following the thread.

I got my study visa for Canada earlier this year and I will be arriving in fall. My fiancé and I are planning on doing a court marriage before I travel so he can join me after I get there.

However we keep hearing that we should make use of a Federal registry in Nigeria as this is the only one recognized by Canada immigration.
Our initial plan was to use a local government registry.

Please I would appreciate more information on this.

Can we go ahead with the local government registry or it’s compulsory to do it with a federal registry?

Thank you for your responses
That's a fairy tale. So long as the marriage was conducted at the marriage registry and you have the marriage certificate issued, you're good to go. I remember I was also told Ikoyi registry is the only one that is valid. All na wash.

Can I flagpole my study permit extension? My program is for 2 years but I got a 1-year student visa and study permit because of the validity of my passport. I now have my renewed passport. Can I extend by flagpole or do I have to submit an online application?
Your case of study permit renewal is different from changing a valid visitor's Visa to an open work permit. So, you will need to apply online from inside Canada.

Thank you.

But just to confirm, can a person coming in for the first time do it immediately at the airport, or must the person necessarily settle in first?
You can do it at the land border and not at airport (since the airport is fully contained inside Canada soil). To flagpole, you will need to literally leave the soil of Canada and step into another country say US and return. Think of it as the origin of the term flagpoling. They will put exit stamp on your passport and you return back to be accepted. The officers will explain what you will do. Please do some research on this if you really want to do it.

YYou don't need IRCC phone number to book biometrics. Use the link below to book it.
https://visa.vfsglobal.com/nga/en/can/book-an-appointment
She doesn't mean IRCC phone number.

IRCC no. is now a compulsory field to fill while booking for biometrics with VFS. You get it from the biometrics instruction letter.

Good day,

How do I get IRCC NO to book Biometric please?

Regards,
I noticed VFS have stopped allowing people to book biometrics appointment without first having the biometrics instruction letter from IRCC.

The only way to book the biometrics is to actually submit your Visa application and get the biometrics instruction letter 24 to 48 hours after submission. The IRCC no. will be right at the lower part of the letter.

Can I PM you please?
I'm yet to understand how this works.
It's not a big deal actually.

If you're a spouse of an International student (and eligible for SOWP) and you enter Canada on Visitor's Visa, you can go to the nearest border with all the necessary documents to justify your claim. Tell the border agent that you want to flagpole and they will direct you on what to do.

Literally speaking, it involves exiting Canada and entering again so they can issue you the open work permit instantly. Please note that it's legal too and not a case of cutting corners. Note that you will pay some little money for the permit at the border.

Check Google and watch some Youtube videos on that. I think someone here recently updated that s/he did it recently and it's still working.

Minors on visit visa accompanied by their parents on study or work visa don't need a return ticket. That's what I know.
A friend on SOWP that travelled recently with her child (1.5 years on visit visa) didn't book a return ticket and had no issue. She travelled with Lufthansa. She even confirmed from them before booking and that's what she was told.

I don't know if it's airline that decide if someone needs a return ticket or not, or it's CBSA. So make your findings. But my response to your question was based on my friend's experience.
Oh...nice. Its good to learn somone you know did this successfully. I may have to reconsider choice of airlines vis-à-vis the cost of their tickets.

Thanks for your response.

Afrobrown2000

You do not need a covid test to board or enter Canada so far you're fully vaccinated. Your minors also do not need to be vaccinated to enter Canada as they are still under 12 years

Also, your work permit visa doesn't require a return ticket, one way ticket is all you need and this covers your minors as well.
Do you mean minors on visitor's Visa do not need a return ticket to come to Canada?

If yes, please can you provide reference.

I'm currently in this fix now as Airlines insist all visitor's Visa holders need a return ticket irrespective of age.

Please how much does it cost for an IOM medical in Lagos? Also how long does it take to get the result?
The last time I'm aware of, its 46,500 naira for an adult and around 35,600 for a child. You will see the correct amount while booking. A quick Google search will also answer your question too.

Has anyone here travelled with kids with visitor's Visa on a one-way ticket before?

SOWP for spouse is okay but the airline said kid of 2 yrs with visitor's Visa will have to buy a return ticket.

Is that the same experience here or there's anything I need to know/do?

Well well. I’m a lowkey observer here.

I got my bvl/ppr (SOWP) today. I’m grateful to the almighty for his mercies. After trials and errors, multiple denials and delays, finally God came through. I applied since October 2021, got my medicals passed this Monday, and today I got my good news.
