What is all this talk about xavi and iniesta.

Were they part of the fantastic four of Henry, Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi ?

People who understands football knows that:

The support Messi is getting is due to the Manager's technical abilities and not the players.

The current Argentine team don't have such Manager.

people like this shameless pastor deserve no reply. how the hell do you attack someone and expect him to not to defend himself.  is it not your senseless myopic and bigoted rantings about islamic banking that prompted him to defend  the cbn policy in the first place? u attacck sanusi and like a gentleman he came out and defended the policy only for you to come behind and accuse him of championing the cause of islamic banking. how hypocritical of you,

like hell you are not against islamic banking. when the issue first surfaced, true to your nature of not looking before leaping you vehemently opposed it and  after facts were revealed including list of countries that operate it you realised you are fighting a loosing battle. A gentleman would have apologised for wrong perception but no this guy is busy pulling excuses off air thereby deepening the hatred and mistrust that already exist between muslims and christians in this country. pathetic! use your head and be objective for once. try, its not a rocket science.

There are limits to everything in life so is friendships.

The last thing I will do is to interfere in my friends relationship, neither will I allow them to interfere with mine.

In life people take decisions and make mistakes.

The good thing is to learn from our mistakes.

Since your friend is an adult, I will advice you to limit your attention on her relationship and focus on yours.

I am sure there are other decisions she has taking without your consent so why are you brothered.

If she makes mistakes, it is her problem and not yours

So why take Aspirin over another persons headache.

chidexy:
Find attached the CBN guidelines on Islamic Banking.

Islamic Banking while a form of non-interest banking, is being promoted by Sanusi and Co. as a stand-alone form of banking. While in principle it's a line of banking product being offered in so many countries, its promoters in Nigeria are rather not addressing the fears of those who are against/opposed to it.

Of interest in the guidelines are 4sections 4.1 and 4.3. Section 4.1 makes it mandatory that the operators must have a technical agreement with a reputable islamic financial institution (read: uncensored funds coming from mostly middle east into the country). In section .3, most operators will apply for a regional license to operate in the North (as a possible instrument of development of the economy of the northern zones).

Sections 6 and 11 handle the issue of Profit (read: Interest). It's erroneously assumed that both profit and loss are shared in Islamic banking. Far from the truth: only the profits are shared while losses are singularly borne by whoever takes out the loan (see section 11.2)

I hope the propagators of this form of banking get their acts together, address the concerns of those who are opposed to it before carrying on

What I also fail to understand is why is everyone up in arms against Sanusi & not Soludo who initiated the process?I also have my gripe with Islamic banking but the fact that it was Soludo that began the whole process isn't lost on me
Please tell me one thing Sanusi has done to the economy since he became CBN  governor.

Instead he crippled the economy by restricting funding for the private sector.

I remember Soludo also came up with Naira denomination policy which is working in Ghana, it was opposed and all is history today.

@Islamrules,

Yes I was only trying to show how ridiculous both grps are in Nigeria. But if you see it that way I will ask you a question;

Where were the Christian building churches ? as I was talking about nigeria, the first church in the land that became Nigeria was build in the 1840s at badagry when muslims had been building mosques and having activities of teaching and scholarship for at least 350 years before the first church was built in Badagry. The majority of lagos and Ibadan were Muslims when Samuel Ajayi Crowther came to Badagry in 1842. Dr. miller came to the North ( Zaria) in 1899 and learnt the arabic writing from Muslim scholars in Zaria to use for his Christian missionary work. ( I know that he had some arabic and Hausa instructions earlier in Tripoli to prepare him for evangelizing the Hausaland. Boy as far as Nigeria is concerned , new religions like Christianity have to copy. Please find some history books and educate yourself.
Sorry you forgot to tell us that both Islamic and Christian missionaries to Africa were INVADERS.

While the Muslims were invading the North, the Christians were invading the South.

In 1842, the majority of lagos, Ibadan and Southern Nigeria were neither Muslim or Christians, they were ANIMIST.

If the current students from Federal Universities are exposed to the superior facility and lecturing found at CU, they will produce more First Graduates than CU.

The UI,UNN, OAU, UNILAG of the 80s are better than any University now.

But these schools don't lecture(UI,UNN, OAU, UNILAG ) any more, instead they intimidate students with failure.

Private Universities are the why to go for now.

Federal Universities failed us big time.
I'm still asking, how many graduates were produced and how many are first class.
20-year-old graduate breaks academic record in CU

The Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, organised the 6th convocation for 1,263 graduates last Friday. MOTUNRAYO ABODERIN in this report highlights how 20-year-old Mr. Victor Ubong, emerged the all-time best graduate of the university that got its operational license on Febrauary 12, 2002, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average record of 4.99 out of a possible 5.0.

When Mr. Victor Ubong gained admission to Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, to pursue a degree course in Accounting, nobody knew he would emerge as the best graduating student. This is because as a secondary school pupil, he struggled to pass. He sometimes crammed his notes and when this failed, he resorted to cheating. Even at this, he was just an average pupil, who managed to pass his West African Senior Secondary School Examination in 2007. So, for those who knew him then, it was a surprise that Ubong emerged not just as the best graduating student during the 2011 convocation of the university, but as the all-time best graduate of the institution. He did not only pass out with a first class degree, he did it in style by obtaining a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.99 out of a possible 5.0. By this, he has created a new record as the all-time best student to have graduated from the institution, established in 2002.

Ubong was the cynosure of all eyes that attended the ninth convocation of the university last Friday as the auditorium erupted with joy immediately he was called to the podium by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aize Obayan, to receive the award from the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo. Other graduates rose up waving their mortarboards in celebration of the brainy young man.

Parents and well wishers stood up clapping for the graduate born in Ibom-Ibiono, a village in Akwa Ibom State, 20 years ago. He stood smiling, waving his hand to the crowd in appreciation of their applause.

Narrating his academic journey, Ubong, who completed his secondary school education at Stars International College, Ikorodu, Lagos State, said he never thought he could ever achieve his heart desires without cheating until he came to CU.

“My secondary school days from JSS 2 up to SS2 were days of struggling academically. I was not so brilliant. I did not even know what it meant for people to read and just understand without cramming. You could say I relied on cramming in order to pass my exams. I knew this way of life was not the best, but I didn’t have any choice, and in cases where the cramming did not work, I cheated, I didn’t see anything wrong in cheating. I saw it as a means of survival,” he said.

However, after enrolling at CU in 2007, Ubong said the Christian environment influenced his personality and view towards life. “Immediately I got to CU, I just felt something different about the environment. The thought of cheating just disappeared out of my mind, and finally in 2007 I gave my life to Jesus.

“After my rededication to Jesus, I promised my dad and myself that I would be the best graduating student.”

Speaking with our correspondent after the convocation where 1,263 students were awarded various degrees, out of which 89 had a first class, Ubong said that he actually planned to graduate with a first class degree the very day he gained admission to the institution.

“I never knew that I would set a new record. I owe it all to God. I prayed for it. Making a GPA of 4.99 took a lot of hard work. I kept my eyes on that goal and resisted every distraction, even relationships. I didn’t have any girlfriend throughout my university days. I had to work extra hard whenever we had group assignments because I knew my goals and I was not willing to allow any unserious group member to bring me down,” he said.

Ubong also hinged his performance on the stiff competition he received from his course mates.

“My 100 Level was the most strenuous. I used to study for 18 hours in a day. This was very tasking. However, after some time, I met a group of friends, they were four in number, we then formed a study group which made it easier for us. With the group, I only had to study for three hours. As the Bible says one shall chase a thousand, and two, ten thousand. From that period of synergy up to our final year, we were also scoring a CGPA of 5.0 every semester. Four of us even emerged as the best graduating students in our various departments. I was just so blessed to meet them,”he said.

Asked if he would love to pick up a career in the nation’s university system, he said, “Yes, I intend to become a professor because I am a born teacher. I grew up to love teaching and imparting knowledge to others. My dad is an accountant, I guess that’s where the passion for the profession came from. I also hope to pick up some professional courses to improve my professional knowledge.”

Ubong, who identified corruption as the nation’s major challenge said, “If the problem of corruption is solved, every other problem will be solved because righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach. We need the fear of God in Nigeria. We need to practise what we preach. Nigeria is a country that has the potential to survive on her own, the resources are there, but because of bad governance – leaders who are self-centred, Nigeria has been struggling. But I refuse to give up, I know change is coming to Nigeria, especially with the emergence of our generation. We are the new generation of leaders, capable of restoring the lost dignity. We are the light of Nigeria, and youths must see these in themselves.”

Meanwhile, Ubong, who sees hard work, fear of God, respect for others, punctuality, independence, hatred for mediocrity and simplicity as core virtues, urged undergraduates to be focussed and diligent if they must succeed in their studies.

“They can make it. They just need to be focussed and trust in the Lord with all their hearts and lean not unto their own understanding. In all their ways, they should acknowledge Him and He shall direct their paths. They should also remember that a diligent man will always stand before kings, and not before mean men,” he said.

However, 89 other graduates made first class, 663 obtained second class upper division while the remaining 449 made second class lower.

The chancellor had in his speech congratulated the graduating students and urged them to forge new paths in life to achieve success.

“Go forth and live the Covenant University vision running with our seven core values and making a difference. Remember, a good name is better than silver and gold. Nothing preserves like integrity and nothing dignifies like probity. Capacity may take anyone up, only character can keep him there,” he said.

Oyedepo ended his speech with a known fact that it was essential the graduates stood for something, or else they would fall for anything.

Islamic banking: Christian group calls for Bakare’s suspenson from

National President of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria (FCCN), Pastor Emmanuel Dziggau, has said that Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly and vice-presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the April 2011 elections will be suspended from the body if found guilty of criticising Christian leaders for opposing the establishment of Islamic banking in Nigeria. FCCN is one of the five bodies that constitute the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

He also insisted that no persuasion would compel Christians to accept the non-interest banking in the name of a particular religion against the constitution of Nigeria. The president, who said he had over 25million membership across the country, said Christians would not accept the establishment of Islamic banking, “which is against the nation’s supreme document, the constitution.” Dziggau was reacting to Pastor Bakare’s endorsement of Islamic banking in Nigeria. He said: “Did Pastor Bakare belong to the five blocks that make up CAN and all the churches in Nigeria have five arms that form the Christian body? I don’t think Bakare belongs to one of them, by implication he has sanctioned himself. “But if we discover that he belongs to one of the blocks that make up CAN, we will sanction him. CAN members have agreed that there will be no Islamic banking in Nigeria because the constitution is very clear that banks should not be established on religious line be it a Christian or an Islamic bank.

According to the FCCN president, “the unity and oneness of Nigeria should not be played with, irrespective of the present predicament the nation is facing.” Dziggau added that the Federal Government must act fast on the issue before it degenerates. He added:“Our position is very clear on the issue of Islamic banking. If Sanusi continues to talk about this issue and with the present situation in Nigeria, things will be worse and the country will be difficult to rule. Even there are no banks owned by states. “We are Nigerians and this country belongs to all of us and nobody will force on us something we don’t want. If you want to force on people what they don’t want, there will be no peace in this country and that will be dangerous for all of us; Christians will never accept it.”

In another development, the House of Representatives came under fire yesterday from the Niger Delta Nationalities Forum (NDNF), claiming that members of the lower legislative chambers of the National Assembly from the non-Moslem areas did not take the feelings of their constituents into consideration when they endorsed Islamic banking last week. According to the group, the legislators have failed in representing their interest on what they described as ‘’the vexed issue of Islamic banking’’. The NDNF said: ‘’Islamic banking will continue to cause disaffection among religious groups in Nigeria. But if there must be Islamic banking, let there also exist a Christian banking system due to the sensitivity of religion in the country.

Much ado about Islamic banking

Even though a draft framework for non-interest banking was issued in March 2009 by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), its position on Islamic banking did not become much of an issue until a few months ago when the final guidelines were released.

According to the acting director of banking supervision at the CBN, D.A. Eke, "The objective of the framework is to provide minimum standards for the operation of non-interest banking in Nigeria while serving as an exposure for comments, suggestions and/or inputs by stakeholders."

The suggestions and/or inputs from stakeholders never came. More than two years after, the CBN released the final guidelines which cover only non-interest banking according to Islamic commercial law and jurisprudence ‑ and all hell was let loose.

The furore was such that the regulator could not ignore even though a few weeks before the CBN governor, Lamido Sanusi, had said the complainants were in the minority.

Doing a volte-face, Mr Sanusi said he has instructed that the guidelines be re-written and re-issued after examining all of the criticisms that have trailed the initial guidelines, as it was capable of being misinterpreted to mean that Islamic banking is the only type of non-interest banking that is allowed.

"It was never our intention to restrict non-interest banking to Islamic banking but we understand why it would be viewed that way," Mr Sanusi said.

Revised guidelines

In the revised guidelines, the CBN recognised two types of non-interest banking: non-interest financial products and services based on principles of Islamic commercial jurisprudence, as well as financial products and services based on any other established rules and principles. The regulator added that in line with its objective of promoting financial inclusion in Nigeria, it will issue guidelines pertinent to other types of banking to individuals and groups wishing to practice non-interest banking based on established rules and principles other than Islamic.

The Central Bank said it was introducing Islamic banking in order to open up the financial space to those who were locked out. "Financial inclusion is a major challenge. Almost 50 percent of adult Nigerians do not have access to capital. What is keeping them out? Many things. But to the extent that non-interest banks can address some of the reasons for their staying out, we should encourage them," said CBN deputy governor (financial systems stability), Kingsley Moghalu, while assuring Nigerians on the genuine intentions of introducing the variant of non-interest banking.

At a seminar organised by Apostles in the Market Place (AiMP), a group of Christian professionals, in Lagos last week, Mr Moghalu said the CBN was open to receive applications from other firms that wish to operate other variants of non-interest banking. "I like to very clearly reassure Nigerians that non-interest banking is part of our plans to increase the inclusion into the financial system of those who have stayed out of the banking system for various reasons. I like to assure Nigerians very clearly that there is no agenda. It is simply finance; it is not about religion." Participants agreed that while there was a need to redefine the function of capital, it was equally necessary to ensure that such redefinition is not seen to favour one religion over another.

The problem you people have is that you are looking at the whole issue from a religious perspective. Okonjo Eweala is a Christian and she endorsed it. Many Christian bankers have endorsed it. I think you have to stop living under illusion.
Enough misinformation.

Okonjo Eweala did not endorsed "Islamic Banking" she endorsed "non-interest banking.

The Central Bank shall set up an advisory committee on non-interest bank-ing within the CBN to be called the CBN Shariah Council (CSC), which will be outsourced. The Council shall advise the CBN on Islamic laws and principles for the purposes of regulating non-interest banking business.
And you claim it is not a religious issue.

Why are the Christians saying they are not happy with that type of banking? Have you ever sit down and ask yourself what their motives really are? Answers have to be made available for these questions before you can condemn the quoted statement.
And why do we have to bring religion into everything in Nigeria.

Why is Sanusi running away from the problem in banking sector, instead he is bringing his religion into the system.

Why not solve the main problem and leave religion alone.

It takes somebody attacking you before you use your last drop of blood to defend something or someone. If they said "We will spill your blood." It would have been provocative. It is their last drop of blood they are talking about not yours, so why are you making noise. You did not have ears when Oritsejafor and Okogie were threatening fire and brimstone over this matter and now people are saying they are willing to die defending it you are making noise.

Unfortunately, we are going to experience a lot of these useless arguments for the next 4 years over virtually every issue because the man on top is not an effective decision maker. Hence, every Okogie, Oritsejafor and Makinde think they can bully him into doing what they want.
Did Oritsejafor and Okogie threaten to kill people if Islamic banking happen?

Muslims are just showing their true colours.

Muslims have been "spilling blood in this country for years" without provocation.

Their rants is not knew.

The problem is with Sanusi that have decided to create a banking system for his Muslim brothers.
