You see what we have been saying all this while.

Christians have criticized the Sanusi's policy peaceably .

Now this so called MUSLIMS are showing their true color and their urge for blood.

Yet some fools will come here to defend them.

So it is now clear that Islamic Banking is for the Muslims and not for all Nigerians

Islamic banking: Muslims ready to go to war – Sharia Council

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria on Sunday threatened that Muslims would rather go to war than give up on the current move by the Central Bank of Nigeria to promote Islamic banks in the country.

The SCSN also warned Christian clerics to stop disturbing Muslims, whom it said had received enough abuses since the controversial banking system came to the front burner of national discourse.

Vowing that Muslims would defend the implementation of the Islamic banking system (also known as non-interest banking), “with the last drop of their blood,” the council also urged the Federal Government to call Christian leaders to order.

The SCSN President, Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, read a statement issued at the end of a meeting of the council to journalists at the Arewa House, Kaduna.

The council said, “Jaiz bank has come to be and there is nothing they (Christian leaders) can do about it and if we have to go to war on this, we’ll go to war.

“Let those wearing cassocks stop disturbing our peace. Gentlemen (journalists), being peaceful doesn’t mean we are cowards. We warn them to stop disturbing our peace if they want us to live together in Nigeria. Everybody can go his way; we don’t have to live together. We can’t live under people dictating to us how we should live our lives even within the laws of the country.

“Whatever they call themselves, whether archbishops, priests or whatever they are, let them stop disturbing our lives. We have had enough; let the government warn them because these abuses are enough. We have been patient but there is a limit to what we can take. On this Jaiz bank, there is no going back. Everything has been done according to the law.

“We’ll meet fire with fire if they make the Jaiz bank impossible. Let them leave us alone. If they want us to live in Nigeria peacefully as we want to do, then let them respect our rights as we concede to them their own rights.”

It added that if Christians wanted a bank to serve their interest, they were free to ask the CBN for one instead of opposing the proposed Islamic banking which “is operational in the United Kingdom and other Christian-dominated countries.”

The council added that the Jaiz bank had assured that it would commence operations in Nigeria in September with three branches in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.

The SCSN said,“We are very happy that with a lot of efforts Jaiz bank has now become a reality. The company owning Jaiz has assured us that the bank is coming in September and they have assured us that they will be starting with three branches in three towns, namely Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.

“And they will continue to open the branches rapidly thereafter. We are also aware of the amount of noise and nonsense we hear from the Christian leaders, some of whom are so ignorant.

“They think they can blackmail the government, the CBN or the Muslim ummah to abandon the project. We want to assure them that nothing can stop the Jaiz bank from coming into being because it’s being brought in according to the laws of Nigeria. There is nothing illegal about it.

“If they have a Christian bank that they want to establish, they have the freedom to bring it to the CBN and if they can prove their case, a Christian bank will be opened.

“We, the Muslims of this country, are fed up and tired of the vituperations of the CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria). They feel they can dictate to the Muslims, even on how we should live our lives.

“And we are warning the government not to listen to them because there is a limit to the amount of nonsense we can take. We are the majority in this country, whether the Christians like it or not.

The Sharia Council also alleged that the post-presidential election riots in Kaduna and other parts of the North were premeditated in Southern Kaduna long before the conduct of the polls.

Efforts made by our correspondent to get the reaction of the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, were abortive, as he was said to be out of the country.

The SCSN also faulted the manner in which the crisis was handled by the Federal and state governments, alleging that a curfew had been imposed on the northern part of the state while the southern part remained free.

It said, “This reality is supported by the fact that Southern Kaduna Muslims were massacred even before the election results were announced. Whatever happened was a reaction thereto. The refugees were left to cater for themselves. In fact, most of them were compelled to leave the camp.

“The government must restore people’s freedom, compensate them fully and return them to their homes.”

The council also spoke on the security challenge in the country, especially in Borno State, saying that “the activities of the Joint Task Force in Maiduguri were most unfortunate.”

It accused the JTF of “using an unbalanced force in its attempt to restore peace and order to Borno State.”

So why do we have religious schools then? knowing that schools propagate religion more than a bank
So also are NUC and Min of Education not religious organisations but they issues licences to religious schools
Would you really say that if you are comfortable not going to church, churches should not be built
To repeat, muslims don't want to take or pay interest, is it fair to insist that they should do so because you like it?

Let me explain why muslims cannot understand why christians are fighting islamic banking
christians run christian schools; anybody can run an islamic bank
In a christian school, it is usually compulsory for everyone to go to church
Not bringing a bible to church can lead to suspension
In Babcock, in observance of Sabath, no student can study on Saturday even if you have a crucial exam the following monday
there is no provision for muslims prayer area in the school
Muslims who elect to go to these schools (instead of UI, UNN, ABU) bear it without complaint

Now will an Islamic bank force you to buy or read the quran? Or go to the mosque
An Islamic bank owned by christians will even do christian fellowship for christians if they like
Now a christian may decide not to open an account with an Islamic Bank and just continue biz

Please how does the bank that cannot compel anyone to do anything infuse religion on a nation while
schools that enforce religious injunctions (on a vulnerable segment) have been operating for years in that same society
I think you need to educate yourself very well before making comments.

So because we have Muslim and Christian schools we must have

Muslim and Christian Banks

Muslim and Christian police

Muslim and Christian army

Muslim and Christian States

nonsense. angry angry angry

Can you please differentiate between PRIVATE AND PUBLIC business.

Banks are public enterprise

But some schools are not.

There are churches in the North. Are there not?
We should try and separate fanatics and tribal issues from religion.

Boko Haram issued a release this week and I nearly wept. They were ignorant of what a primary 4 pupil (who has studied IRS for at least 3 years) should know about Islam
Now these are the people seen as the face of Islam
Since this matter started, I have asked my colleagues in the office - am I violent, fanatical etc
So what % of muslims are actually misguided that we insist all muslims must be tarred with the same brush
Everytime legitimate aspirations of muslims are denied, it is a victory to Boko Haram

Look at this story. It is long but read it patiently. It tells you ethnicity is a major factor in this country

Well, many Christians aren't 'tolerant' too.
This brouhaha over Islamic banking shows this fact clearly. The constant verbal persecution of African traditional religion worshippers is another case.
People parade the streets, using megaphones to preach at 3 am in the night on a work night. is that tolerance? A large percentage of churches in Lagos are built in residential neighbourhoods. These same churches proceed to hold very loud Night vigils on wednesdays, keeping people awake. is that tolerance too?
FOOL, SO Christians are intolerant because they simply criticising the Govt. policies.

All those activities you state up there are also done by Muslims.

Tell me when did criticism become illegal, even the best Govt. policies are criticized everyday.

The fact the you people don't want any body to criticize the CBN policy show you are intolerant.

Is the Catholic Church the only church in Nigeria? If you can accept that though all are christians but still have strong differences to make them branch out to Anglican, Presbyterian, Deeper Life, Christ Embassy, Redeemed and others, why then do you want other religions not to have their own preferences.

By being tolerant to your younger brother does not mean you are tolerant to others in the same shoes. Please lets start to have tolerance for other things that are not in our comfort zones.
Can you imagine Muslims telling Christians to be tolerant. LWKMD

Does Anglican, Presbyterian, Deeper Life, Christ Embassy, Redeemed and others have their own banks.

Guy your analysis is wrong , Anglican, Presbyterian, Deeper Life, Christ Embassy, Redeemed and others are all Christians.

The Issues is between religion and not denominations

If Islamic bank should exit, then all other religion(Christians, Animist, Buddhism e.t.c) should have their own banking system.

Before the advent of Christianity, Islam and western banking system.

A lot of Ignorance on here which does not really surprise me.

Alot of these House of reps members are highly educated, a great number of them have studied abroad as well. If you were in the same position as they are are you really sure you can do better? I can assure you that being highly educated is one thing and applying your knowledge is another thing especially in a country like Nigeria.

The Sharia compliance aspect of Islamic banking means that loans will not be given to people who want to finance gambling, alcohol, Indecency and prostitution just to name a few. Hence the term Islamic banking based on that principles.

Islamic banking is a product of banking system such as commercial or micro finance.

The term Islamic Banking is used in other countries, like Sanusi pointed out, on Edgeware road in London, UK you will see one there.

Banks like GT, Zenith or First Bank can offer Islamic banking for its customers. I bank with Lloyds TSB bank which offers Islamic banking in UK. Some of the staff who handle that aspect of the banking systems are Christians.

With regards to the withdrawal limit, he stated that withdraws below 150,000 does not attract any charges, besides how many Nigerians withdraw up to 150,000 daily? Abroad, most transactions are done online or using cash, don't you want the same to happen in Nigeria?

Why queue up for up to an hour for funds transfer when it can be easily done online?
You Muslims are the problem we have in Nigeria.

You don't want to give loans to finance gambling, alcohol, Indecency and prostitution .

Yet you collect TAX from  gambling, alcohol, Indecency and prostitution.

HYPOCRITES.

Now the Islamic Movements in Nigeria are jubilating because Sanusi is using his position to push their agenda.

To all you who keep saying she had no reason to commit suicide, yadi yadi ya I pray to the Almighty God that you shall not be faced with a burden or despair that will push you to taking your own life. You all find it easy to condemn because you are not the one in her shoes, May you not go through pain that will push you to thoughts of suicide,

And to all those who have said that she is going straight to hell, please let me know when you all became a "god". Show me where in the Bible that says "those who commit suicide are going to hell". I am in no way justifying her act but I am saying you all need to think before you speak. Based on your understanding of God and who you consider your maker to be, come to your understanding from there. The same Bible that says do not murder also says do not commit adultery, do not lie, do not bear false witness, do not steal, do not fornicate. And I am so sure a lot of us are guilty of all these other sins but because we feel "my sin is not as bad as this other sin" then we are quick to judge others in other to make ourselves look good.

Also the last time I checked, the only unforgivable sins were denying Christ and blaspheming against the Holy Spirit (even though i am still trying to fully understand what it means to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit). Also, what will you say to those who commit all sorts of abortions?

I know people single out Suicide because the "suicidee" did not have an opportunity to ask for forgiveness and repent. But what makes you think you will know for sure what you will be doing before you die? What of those who have accidents on their way back from committing adultery, or those who get shot with stray bullets after stealing company funds or those who dies in a plane crash after cursing out the air hostess? Does that mean they are going straight to hell too?

I think no one has a right to condemn no one because God's ways are not our ways. You do not know how she lived her life before getting to this point and you do not know what relationship she had with God before getting to this point. THat is so between her and God. Everyone seems to be acting like the people who told Jesus they needed to stone the adulterous woman but Jesus replied and said "he who has no sin should throw the first stone".

Let us all examine our lives and "take heed lest we fall"
Abegi make we hear word jor.

Do you know that attempted Suicide in some Societies is a crime? I don't know about that of Nigeria.

And you are here defend her actions as if she is the only one  going through depression.

This is a woman living above average NIGERIANS.

Yet she lives in a society were some cannot, get education, job and live well.

She has no reason to commit Suicide.

It cowardly and selfish.

Love is based on condition, you can love someone today and fall out tomorrow.

We have seen most ladies who love guys for certain conditions, like height, built, wealth e.t.c

Dont force yourself to marry someone you dont love though 9 years is TOO LONG a time to spend before dumping anyone. From experience i can tell you that what you feel for smallie now may be an illusion based on physical appearance which can change anytime. Forget being fat, if a fiancee becomes incapacitated in anyway, would you dump her? Love goes beyond appearance and beauty fades. She could have been using birth control pills which makes some people fat. Maybe you should have been more emphatic about her losing weight as a precondition for marriage and let her know its for her own good as it will be easier for her to control her weight after delivery if she takes to the gym routine from now.

Breaking up with her will not be easy as all those who have been a part of your lives in the last 9years are likely to side with her if she has a good heart and is well behaved. It will be just like going thru a divorce - many enemies to be made and a lot of curse and trauma to follow but if you are sure of your decision, u are prayerful and resolute you will get by. Ask for forgiveness tho, xtian or not. I have learnt practically that the law of karma tallies with the biblical saying of doing unto others as u want them to do to you. What kind of karma are you talking about, was she forced to date the guy for 9years?

Married people with children breakup, so people in ordinary relationship can breakup, you do not need a law court for that.

Where did you learn your own law from? The law says all offenders are DEEMED INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY (a constitutional provision. The provision on "Fair Hearing" be precise). It is NEVER the job of any offender to prove his/her innocence, it is DEEMED or (more technically) "presumed" from the onset. It is the job of the prosecution to prove her guilt, all she has to do is introduce "reasonable doubt." {see the case of DPP v. some guy I cannot recall at this moment}. So please, check your facts before passing comments, lest you seem like a f.o.o.l to the learned.
My friend no need for insults, every offender is innocent until proven guilty.

But it is not the job of the Judge or Jury to defend her.

That is way she has right to a lawyer.

Is Fashola above criticism?

Are you paid to defend his Bottom?

Even good and hard working officials an in US get criticized everyday.

Fashola himself knows this is a man made disaster and he has a lot of work to do.

The underground drainage concept should work, but where does the water go? Does it work below sea level?
Well that Tokyo stuff is just like an underground tank.

It stores the water when it rains and release it later.

Good concept.

What can lagos state do to stop flooding, Nothing. Simply because the state has no cash to build an integrated drainage network.

This is a problem for the federal government to resolve either by building or funding a proper drainage network that includes sewage pipes (not gutters), Tanks, Underground drainage tunnels, levees,Pump stations and Flood gates.

Until then Lagos state gov will have to build secondary or temporary street drains but It wont solve the flood problem unless a true network is built.

I already know that lagos state has a town planning master plan draw up by Dar Al-Handasah Consultants but IDK if lagosians flowing it. Most likely alot of houses will have to be demolished for the masterplan to work.

Lagosians also have to stop dumping refuse, The state should enforce punishments and fines for littering.

All in all Lagos will have this problem for a while, I will be here next year when a similar thread will be created.

Here is an example of an underground main drainage tunnel for Cleveland and north east Ohio that is being constructed.
Just show you the true cost of a drainage network.
