Dear Cary, With as many emotionally devastating issues that cross your desk and the painful dilemmas that other readers find themselves in, I'm a little hesitant to ask for advice regarding my situation. I perceive my problem to be fairly small, and most would think it a good problem to have. However, it has been occupying much time and emotional energy, so I would like any guidance you can give me. I have been involved with a wonderful woman for four years. We are great together and pretty much always have been -- we have lots of fun, we love and respect each other deeply, and when we have differences we settle them with open and adult discussion. We recently got engaged and are still basking in the glow of that commitment. We are excited to build our lives even more together than we have in the past few years. However, there appears to be one issue with which we are having a hard time: money. I was fortunate enough to make a fair amount of money 10-15 years ago, when I was barely out of college. Through a combination of hard work, good timing and just plain luck I managed to amass a sizable nest egg in addition to buying a nice house in a good neighborhood. Getting completely burned out on my previous career, I took a few years off to collect myself and work on other projects. Now, I am involved in several different things, none of which have the potential to make a great deal of income in the future. I am fine with this, and could support myself indefinitely with a modest lifestyle. My dear fiancée is a hard-charging, independent, successful professional with a good income. She has been through some previous financial difficulties, but those are pretty much behind her now and her future is quite bright. She is a hard worker and has built her career through determination and resilience. For this, along with many other of her traits, I have a lot of respect and admiration. The bottom line is that I have a lot of money now and don't intend to make very much more, while she has no money now and intends to make a lot. As I said before, most would think this a good problem to have and I very much agree. That being said, it is causing some problems with regards to how we think about money and deal with our merged finances. Our state is a community property state. Without explicit action, any money one brings into the marriage remains prior separate property, and any money that is made during the marriage is community property. Neither of us is anticipating anything short of a lifelong commitment, so what's the issue? Well, my fiancée has said she is not comfortable with keeping my portfolio as my separate property even with me suggesting I retitle the house immediately to "us." I am not comfortable tossing the portfolio immediately into the community bucket. After much discussion and soul searching, we are at loggerheads. And it's over an issue that we believe will probably never come to pass, despite the real statistics that indicate it's a 50/50 chance. But my worry is in the remote possibility that something does go wrong, she would be entitled to half of my net worth. Besides the heartbreak, that would force me to cease the lifestyle I have worked hard to create and necessitate moving back into a more traditional career (which I am loath to do). And her worry is that by holding back this money, I am therefore holding back from our marriage and not ready to fully commit. I disagree and feel fully ready to commit -- I guess I might be more pragmatic or just consider love and money in two separate universes? Maybe the emotional heartbreak would so outweigh the financial pain that it doesn't really matter? Maybe this will all be a moot point in five years if/when we have kids? We can each see the other's point of view. If our scenario was reversed, we each believe we might take the other's opinion. Neither of us wants a prenuptial agreement or anything that romance-killing. We also don't want to keep our financial dealings totally separate as we are in this together for the long haul. Is planning for the worst taking away from the weight of the commitment? We both come from parents who divorced when we were quite young. I have acquaintances who have endured painful divorces, including several who were well off and were left financially bereft. Yet we are both assuming that we have chosen the right partner and will never have to go through the heartbreak. But I guess every couple who gets married goes into it believing they will not be a statistic. How can we bridge this gap? How can we think about this such that each of us is happy and satisfied and not feeling taken advantage of? How can we compromise and move on? Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Good Problem http://www.salon.com/life/since_you_asked/2011/04/05/marriage_and_money/index.html |
The three of them are dumb. 1. Toni Payne for for not Nip in the bud b4 it gets out of hand. Knowing that 9ICE is now celebrity and women will sure come after him. 2. Vicky Godis Bukky for betraying a fellow woman and destroying their marriage. I don't know why some women just to date married men. 3. 9ice the biggest fool of all, for throwing his wife and SON out of his house. Even divorced men still fight for the custody of their children. But 9ICE throwing his little Boy out at that age is very bad. Well he will soon brake up with Vicky Godis Bukky for sure . Since TUFACE has shown him the way he will also follow. |
100% correct. Kano State population figures are fake for that reason. I wouldn't be surprised if it has the same population as Oyo State.
Man Kano, Sokoto ,Maiduguri, Kaduna and other northern cities are not rural areas. Most southerners who go to the north for business don't go to rural areas. They stay in the cities. So it is wrong to call Kano a rural area. It is also wrong to compare Kano to OYO state. Kano is more cosmopolitan then OYO state. |
MRbrownJAY:So true. I remember one young damsel looking for fun and freedom left her parent, dropped out school and got pregnant by one Sugar Daddy. Now she is a single mother and staying with her parent(the-same parent she ran away from). The truth is that most this girl are BLINDED by what they see on THE MEDIA(TV,RADIO,MAGS) . Some of this girls even look up to some celebs as living model. How would Britney spears or lindsay lohan be a perfect model for a young girl. |
There were strong indications in Abuja on Monday that the Independent National Electoral Commission might for the third time, postpone the National Assembly elections in some senatorial districts and constituencies in nine states. A very reliable source in INEC made this known just as THE PUNCH learnt that a fresh set of election materials, including ballot papers, arrived the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Sunday night from China. The source in INEC headquarters, a senior official who asked not to be named, explained that the planned shift was due to the fact that voting had taken place in some districts and constituencies before the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, announced that the April 2 poll had been halted nationwide. Investigations by one of our correspondents on Monday revealed that apart from Lagos, the other states likely to be affected are Rivers, Ogun, Katsina, Ondo, Jigawa, Anambra, Gombe and Imo. It was learnt that the other reasons that might be given for the third rescheduling of polls in the affected areas included the ommission of parties logos on ballot paper and shortages of other materials. Also, it was learnt that the elections might be postponed where serious cases of omission of names in the voter register had occurred. When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, confirmed the imminent postponement of the National Assembly polls in some places he described as “isolated areas.” Idowu said, “The commission had said that a proper audit of (ballot papers) would be taken. Where there are shortages, such that we cannot get enough ballot papers to go round, elections will be postponed in those areas. “The chairman (Jega) said that by Thursday, places where elections will not be able to take place will be known. “Voting took place in less than two per cent of the polling units in the country. If the quantum of ballot papers that were used is such that there would not be enough for fresh elections, the polls will be postponed in such areas. So, obviously, there are some areas where elections will not take place on Saturday.” He said that where there were shortages of ballot papers it, would be impossible for the Commission to place order for another set between now and Saturday. “The chairman said that those elections could be conducted along with the governorship elections or rescheduled for any other day around that time,” he added. Idowu also said the death of the Action Congress of Nigeria House of Representatives candidates, in Katsina State, could lead to the postponement of Saturday’s poll in the constituency. However, he allayed fears that ballot papers sent out on Saturday might have been hijacked by politicians. He added that the ballot papers sent out on that day were serially numbered. “Let’s assume that they got into the wrong hands, of what use will they be? The system of voting we put in place is a system where people will stand in line and be accredited,” he added. Also, Idowu disclosed that INEC had reported the vendor, which failed to deliver form EC84s to it in time, to the appropriate authorities for punishment. But he declined to disclose the identity of the contractor. “The contractor has been reported and handed over to appropriate agencies that would seek for the enforcement of the contractual terms and apply the penalties agreed,” he said. Meanwhile, a fresh set of election material, arrived the MMIA aboard a Boeing 747 aircraft belonging to Saudi Arabia Airlines. A source at the airport said that the aircraft landed at about 10pm on Sunday. He put the weight of the new materials at 30 tonnes, explaining that several tonnes had earlier arrived on Friday evening aboard the same carrier. Another carrier, Cargolus Airlines, according to him, had also brought in some election materials into the country on Saturday morning. The source, who asked not to be named, added, “There are other airlines that the Independent National Electoral Commission is using to bring the elections material into the country, not only Saudi Arabia Airlines. “I think they are trying to bring in all the materials as quickly as possible. Some of the materials which came in aboard Saudi Arabia Airlines on Friday night were immediately transferred to one of the South-South states. The ones that came in last night (Sunday night) were cleared and taken away this morning (Monday).” It was also learnt on Monday that more election materials were still being expected by INEC ahead of the commencement of the general elections on Saturday. INEC had last Saturday cancelled the National Assembly elections due to a lack of sufficient election materials. Its Chairman, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, blamed the development on contractors and the crises in Libya and China. He had announced that the poll would hold on Monday (yesterday) but on Sunday, he made a U-turn after a series of meetings with President Goodluck Jonathan, security agencies and the leaders of the 63 registered political parties in the country. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201104055263546 |
How Cele pastor duped me – Victim A London-based architect, Mrs Oladele Oni, on Monday, informed a Lagos High Court in Ikeja how a prophet of Celestial Church of Christ, Israel Ogundipe, allegedly defrauded her of over N17m. The Lagos State Government is prosecuting Ogundipe before Justice Olabisi Akinlade on an alleged six-count charge of forgery and obtaining money through false pretence. At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, Oni told the court that she entrusted the accused with her money to procure some landed property on her behalf because she thought he was a “good pastor”. In her evidence –in –chief, Oni told the court that the accused had attempted to blackmail her into forfeiting all her landed property in his custody. The witness, who claimed to have first met the accused in 2002 during her visit to Nigeria, testified that, “the accused said something about my husband and that I should not have anything jointly with him because he was having an affair behind my back.” Oni further informed the court that her step-sister took her to the prophet for spiritual help. She also said, “He (the accused) gave me a liquid to drink and I started vomiting. I was asked to sit down and he lighted a candle and said I should be there until the candle goes off.” She further claimed that she was later taken by the prophet in company of her step-sister and cousin to a bush in Sango-Ota Area of Ogun State where she was allegedly bathed with some concoction. She alleged that she started having financial dealing with him after she returned to London, alleging that Ogundipe called her and advised her to invest in landed property in Lagos which she agreed to after consultations with some people. The witness also testified that she sent money to the accused in five tranches of N900, 000, N2.5m, N8.5m, N2.7m and £12,000 between 2002 and 2005 to purchase the property on her behalf. She alleged that after collecting the money, the prophet converted some of the said property for his personal use and refused to refund the money for the others. She said, “When I confronted him about this, he started threatening my life and blackmailing me. He was saying that I have a son for him which was an embarrassment.” The matter has been adjourned till April 8. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20110405451610 |

Some women are claiming it is sacrifice to getting pregnant and rising children. Well it is in the nature of the woman to get pregnant and rise children. Most women including singles alway look towards motherhood. Because motherhood is the peak of womanhood. Calling it sacrifice create the impression they are doing the world are favor. Which is not a favor. |
dayokanu: |
Ujujoan:No MAM . Responsibility demands a lot of sacrifices. If you know what i mean. Acting responsibly means doing the right thing even in the face of opposition. That is sacrifice. The point that harakiri and dayokanu are making is that MEN are not MONOGAMIST in nature. It take a lot of sacrifices for a man to stay in a relationship with one woman for 5years. When he can easily change women every 6 month even at old age. NO OFFENCE. but that is a fact for you. |

Here is another woman who left her marriage for ex-boy friend. I quit my marriage for my boyfriend Dear Agatha, I got married six years ago to a man I never really liked from the beginning. I agreed to marry him because I was under intense pressure from my family members to marry. Being the only child of my parents, they wanted grandchildren. I tried to explain to them that the man I truly loved wasn’t ready. Besides he was abroad trying to make things better for us. Initially, my parents agreed but on my 29th birthday, they gave me an ultimatum of three months to bring my own choice of a husband or they would force me to marry their best friend’s son who has never hidden his interest in me. I didn’t know what to do. I tried in vain to get in touch with my man but he was unreachable. The friend whose contact I often use to get him too wasn’t going through. For six months, I didn’t hear anything from him. I had no clue what was happening. Meanwhile, the pressures kept mounting so I was forced into agreeing to marry one of the men who wanted my hand in marriage. I honestly tried to love him but I just couldn’t bring myself to. My love for my boyfriend was just too strong to let go. A year after my marriage, I got to know through a friend of mine the reason he stopped communicating with me. The hardship in that country made him marry a citizen of that country. She made him change his phone number. She also destroyed his former sim card, threatening to report him to the authorities as a drug peddler if he does as much as call home. She gave me a number and when I called, it turned out to be him. He gave me specific time to call him. When I was able to talk to him, he told me he never stopped loving me and that he did what he did to make life comfortable for us. I told him about my marriage and son. He told me not to worry that he would marry me when he comes back. Perhaps this caused my carelessness and attitude to my husband. I became very rude to the point he had to report me to my parents. Still nothing changed. At a point I didn’t care if he got to know about my boyfriend. Whenever he called, I would take his calls irrespective of whether or not my husband was listening to my conversation. When he could no longer tolerate the situation, he took some of his things and relocated to one of his flats. I was glad but it was short lived when I discovered I was almost four months pregnant. He came back to be with me. I had twins and it was while I was nursing the twins my ex- boyfriend came back. I left my 10 months old twins, their elder brother and husband to follow my boyfriend. I went with him to Ghana. He gave me the impression that he had come to take me back with him only for me to discover after staying with him for eight weeks that he didn’t have the intention of doing that. He left me in the hotel one night with the impression that he was going to see a business partner. I didn’t know he was travelling back to his base that night until the next morning when the hotel staff brought a note he left for me at the reception. He begged me to forgive him that he had no intention of marrying me because he was happy with his wife and children. He told me to go back to my husband and family. In addition to my ticket back home, he gave me two thousand dollars to start a business of my choice. I don’t know what to do anymore. I discovered too late that I loved my husband and want my family back but I don’t know how to go about it or face my husband for that matter. My parents have washed their hands off even though they are the ones caring for my children. Cyn. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-632862.0.html#msg8011829 |

But women are known to be more insecure and jealous. Well i have learnt not to stress my-self over any women(GF or Wife) she can do any thing she want. But i will never be there to help went thing go wrong. Its her poo and she can live with it. |

The month of March is an interesting one for everyone, especially for women all over the world. It is a month dedicated to mothers, wives and sisters and I have seen many feminists tear to the street to canvass equal rights with their male counterparts. Many of these activists are even ready to burn their bras and grab the men’s pants and ‘take over the world’ and totally relegate men to the background. Day after day, there is a war that wages stronger than that of the Middle East, it is a battle of the sexes; women are no longer contented with been left in the kitchen; they want to be at the forefront, they want to lead men to the ‘promised land’, they are ready in all ways to take over the world. During this month, I have heard about and read various articles written in advocacy for female liberation, which to a point I greatly support. I am totally for the girl-child education and the fight against female oppression including abuse of any kind, but what I won’t ever subscribe to is this present wave of male suppression by women. However, there are some hardcore truths about womanhood that will always be, no matter how hard we try to subjugate them. Late last year, I was privileged to attend my first art exhibition in Lagos with a friend; it was of works by Victor Ehikhamenor who brilliantly used the concept of time to depict different events and stages of the human life. His artistic use of different brands of wristwatches brought into sharp relief the fact that humanity is bound by time. In all the artworks displayed, there was one that reminded me of my distinction as a woman, this particular piece boldly differentiated the two genders in a lot of ways. This artwork shows a female figure beautifully curved, however, what stopped people in their tracks when they roam to the piece is the ticking clock placed at the reproductive area of the painting. I remembered arguing with a friend about the meaning of the artwork, and as the debate got heated, others joined in. The conclusion we all drew afterwards was that “females are more bounded by time; whether she accepts it or not. Women do not have all the time in the world as their eggs come with an expiration date. The adage about making hay while the sun shines aptly apply to us women; following my view, I believe that there is a perfect time to marry and have children, a time when the eggs will voluntarily fall, not coerced medically. It seems that since the days of old, there have been more women than men and it still seems like that in Nigeria today. I have witnessed the number of women increase compared to that of men, and this in a way made it quite impossible for women to meet the deadline of marriage before a certain age. Thanks to menopause that is daily clamping down on fertility, more women than ever, are having a difficult time in meeting that ‘knight in shining armour’. And even if there are men, we all know that it is not just about any man on the street , but the ‘right man’ that will appreciate our femininity. This search, like I have seen in Nigeria, has led many women to spiritualists, it has made more females to solely concentrate on deep meditations and prayers. My take on that is to implore these waiting women to keep at it, for it works and please cultivate good character to make perfection of it. My views are however challenged when I discussed the issue of time and women with my friends, they refuted the basis of my opinion calling it old-fashioned , one said “men and women are the same , why should one gender be forced to meet the marriage deadline while the other is left to sow the wild oats?” Another said “ it is my power to get married or not to, even if it is at 40 years”. Quite alarmed by what I heard, I was left wondering “when is the perfect time for a woman to get married?” http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/ArtsandCulture/x2/Entertainment/5686073-146/the_ticking_clock_of_a_woman.csp |
