I am not unacquainted with this subject. First, taraweeh is Islamic. Shia never disputed this fact contrary to what the brother posted up there.

Second, taraweeh in itself is not a bidiah. Line of argument is, according to Shia, taraweeh is only to be performed at home. I'm not concerned about when it should be performed at night at this time. However, the Sunni's argument is that, taraweeh, despite being Sunnah, it is also Sunnah to perform it in congregation and not bidiah to do so. I have read these back and forth arguments for years now. Shia are right from their perspective because there is famous hadith in Sunni that backs this up. Taraweeh is nafl.

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Perform some of your prayers in your houses and do not make them graves.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 422; Muslim, 777)

al-Nawawi said:

The words “Perform some of your prayers in your houses and do not make them graves” mean, pray in them (your houses), and do not make them like graveyards which are devoid of prayer. What is referred to here is naafil (supererogatory) prayers, i.e., offer naafil prayers in your houses.

So from this perceptive, Shia are correct. Also what Shia are not getting is that, the same way we argue about congregational Dua and congregational dhikr, that they are beneficial, is the same way taraweeh in congregation is beneficial. This is Ramadan and Muslims should have some sort of gathering. The whole idea behind congregation of Muslims whether in obligatory salat or not is to come together and know one another. For instance, if we don't get to meet in congregation for fajr, we meet at zuhr, asr, maghrib or Isha etc. You get to meet different muslims from different backgrounds all the time. And if you miss congregational obligatory salat you get to meet them at jummah every week. If you don't meet them at jummah, you get to meet them on elds etc. This is the whole idea behind congregation.

Argument from Sunni on the other hand is that congregational taraweeh was revived by Umar. This is what they meant by linguistics analysis of bidiah of Umar(ra). Question is, did Umar (ra) say anything about linguistics here?. He simply said this is a good bidiah indicating there is good bidiah in Islam contrary to opinion of some people who said there is no such thing. The reason it is good bidiah and not in linguistics sense whatever that means is that nabi Muhammad (saw) stopped congregational taraweeh after 3rd day to avoid making it obligatory on us is indication that it was stopped. When S. Umar(ra) allegedly 'revived' it it means that he revived it to avoid multiple different jummah in a masjid and the masjid gets chaotic. This was his main reason which makes sense. I honestly do not buy the idea of "bidiah in linguistic sense". This makes no sense at all. They only came about this "linguistic" to play down bidiah. Sheikh Adam Al-ilory(ra) cited this statement of Umar (ra) i:e good bidiah, when he defended mawlid.

I disagree with Shia only if they insist that we must not perform taraweeh in congregation because "it is not Sunnah". My reply to them is, is anything bad if muslims come together like this?. So congratulational Taraweeh was not commanded by the prophet (saw) because the companions simply saw him and they joined. He silently approved it for 3 days which means it is Sunnah. However he stopped them afterwards for whatever reason. So from Umar's perceptive, he was right too. It is Sunnah of kulafah to congregate on taraweeh. You should notice that you meet new people all the time in Ramadan. Indeed, "what a good bidiah".

We would make constructive criticism if we look over sectarian differences. Again, my position is taraweeh in itself, whether offered individually or in congregation is Sunnah. Line of argument is if it is bidiah to offer taraweeh in congregation for 29 or 30 consecutive days. I say it is not bad at all. It is Sunnah of kulafah rashidun but it is bidiah only in the sense that it was stopped by the prophet and restarted after him.

To be honest, for the fact that they recite long sura or entire Quran in taraweeh makes it exactly what Umar called it, "good bidiah" since some people are having difficulties standing behind imam while imam embarks on half of Sura baqarah in the first rakah. This kinda makes it looks like compulsory thing. But me personally I have no issue with that bcuz it is nice exercise for me but we gotta consider other people. I don't see where nabi Muhammad led congregation in salat whether nawafil or fard and recited long sura like baqarah in the first two rakat. What we learned was that when he led congregation he shortened sura.

To recite longer sura, you gotta do your thing individually. This we learned when the prophet stood up all night long and his feet swelled. But he recited short sura when he led congregation. Please don't just ignore Shia evidences in the Deen just for being Shia. And Shia should not ignore or condemn Sunni's for being Sunni.

seems to me you don't really know James White. He's very cunning dude. And making comparison with Tawhidi doesn't cut it. James White is a "maradona". You would think he's a new muslim convert. Meanwhile, his tactics are meant to prepare his unsuspecting Muslim readers to succumb to his CHRISTIANITY.

This is first hands experience. Don't argue this.

Imam Mohammed Tahwidi has a great scholarship in Islamic theology and understood Islam in its purest Arabic form (being an Iraqi) and he grew up in a predominately sunni community in Iraq (he is a Shi'a Muslim). I don't think you have any scholarship in Islamic theology which makes him a better authority on this subject matter than me and you.

He's a blind fellow which Quran calls "lamb". I will tell you why in a minute.

For the fact that he is a reformist who wants all religions to live side by side peacefully does not make him a kafir. I would rather be a humanist than a religion fanatic who would rather oppress my fellow human being in the name of religion. Imam Tahwidi is an Arab man and he grew up in Arab community where Islam reigns supreme and you cannot discount his struggles and his personal experience just because his narrative does not suit a standard modern-day Islamic narrative, which are often filled with half-truth and sometimes lies.

Did I or any muslim dispute living side by side with nonmuslims?. In Medina during the time of the prophet, Jews and Muslims lived side by side. Is Tawhidi preaching something new?. If this is what you called a reform you seriously need help.

Now back to the point you don't get. As I previously said, you Judeo/Christian terrorists want no peace. What Tawhidi is doing, that you support, is his support for Jewish supremacists called Jewish lobby at the Washington. This is what you failed to see in the short clip. Ilam Omar is not hating on America but the evil lobby which is sworn enemy of humanity and pushing for wars around the world. It is this evil lobby that want war with Iran. It is this evil lobby that fund terrorists in the name is Islam. It is the same evil lobby that bombed Omar former home country decades ago. This is what Omar criticized but crazy people like Tawhidi, you and other lazy Americans criticized her view. You equated Omar's criticisms of this evil lobby with anti America. For the fact that his opinion does not fit into the traditional Islamic political narrative does not mean he is no longer a Muslim. Yesterday he visited, in Washington, David Wood, a notorious anti-muslim Youtuber, and he defended Islam very well but rightly spoke against the political Muslim brotherhood.

When I see fact I accept it without emotion or bias. If all Muslims, Christians and Jews can see the flaws in their religion and try to fix it, instead of defending or managing it, the current global religious problems will be half-solved. The problem is some Muslims and Christians who claimed that their religion is perfect, when it is even clear to the blind that it is not and will never be, would arrogantly defend the ills in their religion. Fasting in Ramadan is act of worship and it's primary purpose is taqwa. All other benefits and advantages fall under taqwa like health or medical benefits.

For instance, it is general norm to empty your stomach at least 12hrs before doctor's visit. This is to allow doctor to measure accurate blood and urine counts (CBC) to evaluate your overall health.

This 13hrs projected for New York was inaccurate. It is 16hrs if you stop eating at 4AM, bcuz adhan is called around 4:05 even though you may eat further for some mins afterwards.

Iftar is around 8:10PM. So you are looking around 16hrs of fasting in New York at the moment.

However, New York and nearby states will be shorter hours in 7yrs after this Ramadan. It is longer night in the winter and longer day in the summer.

Right now winter is going away but still fairly around. By next Ramadan, which will be sometimes in April, New York may be around 12hrs. Seven(7)yrs from now Ramadan falls exclusively in the winter which makes FASTING hrs around 8hrs, from approximately 6AM(Sahur) to 4PM(iftar). New York will enjoy that time very well. Fasting is very hard in summer yet they fast in the harsh, hot weather conditions with longer hrs.

it is true that wearing hijab and proper clothing modestly is not all about modesty. But hijab and proper clothing are considered physical character of modest women. But such women must understand why she covered. Not for beauty contest or some sort of show off but in compliance with Sharia (submission). So when the author you cited talked about modesty relating to hijab and abaya with respect to Islam, it is telling us about public moral law.

Even if Niqab is not mandatory, whether it is culture or not, if a Muslim woman wishes to wear it, you have no right to talk trash about it. Doing so is tantamount to infringement of their right. There is nothing wrong if Nigerian muslim women chose to wear abaya and Niqab to resemble Arab. There is nothing wrong with copying good things from other cultures. This is what Qur'an refers to as "We have created you in different pairs, different languages and colors that you may know one another"

At least muslim women around the world adopted modest dress code by employing abaya styles. In the same Nigeria and many countries you have non-muslims especially CHRISTIANs who supposed to follow Mary as their role model, copied worst from Western dress code called "bikini", skimpies etc. You can see that in their so called Nollywood where they promote nastiness in the name of westernisation. This is what they copied and this is what you want indirectly. Compare Abaya (arabic style) and Iro and buba(Yoruba style), both corroborate same essence. But Abaya is more comfortable bcus it is only one piece of gown (minus headgear or hijab) compared to Yoruba. You have at least 2 pieces(minus headgear or hijab).

This is why you see Nigeria women would prefer Abaya. You however want muslim women to go naked. This is what you are saying indirectly. Take your fake "tafsir" to the garbage bin.

I find it sometimes offensive that even at comfy room temperature needing no artificial ventilation, some of these women in the abaya are quick to turn the AC making the room cool for themselves, but inadvertently making it cold for others in normal outfit.

It is bad habit that deserves no respect. These women won't dress adequately for the weather. They'll wear the same black boring abaya or headscarf day after day and cannot even sit 5 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius, without fanning themselves or turning on the AC. But they'll rant and biker about how these clothing defines them and empower them.

Would you complain so bad about bikini just as much as you did abaya?. My friend, it is clothing. You are advocating for unclothedness by making up excuses. Get over it. We know it doesn't have to be abaya. Every culture has some sort of clothing styles that define them. For instance in Yorubaland women wear Iro and Buba and still wear hijab or scarf and still be modest.

Would you condemn them for wearing Iro and Buba or you simply criticized abaya because it is identified with Muslims?. Get over it my friend. Your hatred for Islam is very irrational. This is Iro and Buba (top pictured) below meets Islamic standard model of dressing.

Our fore-parents, the earliest homo sapiens, barely covered themselves with foliage or hides. And these coverings serve not for modesty, but for protection from harsh weather and environments. These folks who showered in open streams, couldn't obsess about women's hair, while they barely had enough to cover their skin.

Did your foreparents know any better?. What if they knew it was bad but went ahead until it became their norm?. Their must have been some sort of pervert revolution that led to their unclothedness at that time that descended to their generations.

Just like we are witnessing now where they are promoting unclothedness through music and movie industries. It is now seen as normal to walk around in bikini.

Reason foreparents must be wrong was that even though Adam & Eve were at some point naked, God clothed them (whatever it was they used to cover themselves). We read in Genesis 3:21

"The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them".

I was honestly gonna watch this but the moment i read the dude's comment mentioning Imam Tawhidi, it is no no for me. Such fellow appeals to you obviously. Tawhidi has history and issues with Islam in itself which begs question of his true faith. When i said he has "issues with islam" means it very message. anything else he criticizes are subjective and sometimes irrelevant. Tawhidi is a one eyed and a cattle (7:179).

Therefore, these guys aren't on some real scholarship but apologetic of their own shadows. They aren't logical and not knowledgeable either. The are definitely not rational thinkers and are dogmatic. Dogmatism goes both ways. Thank God I am not disappointed. I thought they would both proved me wrong
