2cribz:Pls stop spreading false narratives. A lot of us are in mourning. It wasn't a molue. He went to deliver a car and took a bus back from Benin to Lagos. Bus somersaulted and lots of passengers died |
Bro I always knew there was an error in this your fuel economy story on your new accord. By the way, I use an accord too, 07 v6, and I know even though the accord is a very fuel efficient car, but not at 29mpg city driving level, as you claimed in your earlier posts. So look at your odometer, your car is in km/hr, not miles. What you have covered at half tank is 332km (or 207miles), not 534km. What you have achieved on this car is truly remarkable, but you wrong in your calculations. If your odometer is in miles, then you multiply by 1.6 to get km. However yours is in kilometers already |
Op so sorry for yr predicament, but let me share my story with you. In 2019, I had just bought a 2007 honda accord v6 with a perfectly working gear. I drove the car with my family all the way to warri from Lagos. On the way around sagamu, I noticed the D transmission light blinking. I stopped, checked for oil leakage or shorts, nothing. Checked and checked, nothing. I drove it to warri. By the next morning, it had cooked down, D light stopped blinking, drove within the town for abt 5days and returned to Lagos without any issues. Within 3days after returning, on Eko Bridge, the gear suddenly stopped working. Long and short, gear oil was burnt, fibers burnt. Transmission toast. Had to get a replacement gear at oyingbo. That was where we discovered that the radiator hose that cooks the gear had been blocked causing over heating in the gear. Since I corrected it, I'm using same transmission till now, no issues at all. Shifts perfectly. Your gear is not shifting perfectly, it's slow because it's not going to gear 1. So when you slow down, it takes time to pick. You need a new transmission bro. But drain all the oil and replace with WS gear oil, and see if there's a difference. |
AutoManual:I have a p0141, bank 1 sensor 2. Even though I plan to change it and see if the economy improves further. |
AutoManual:You are right. But it's not just any oxygen sensor. If your upstream oxygen sensor was bad, you will keep buying fuel like mad. But the downstream oxygen sensor and catalysts have little effect on the fuel consumption. I have same accord, v6. I regularly do 290miles (460km) on a 60litre tank, city driving with no traffic. |
Start yr car, put it on park and snap a picture of the dashboard after 10mins while it's still on park. I suspect yr tachometer is far above 1 at idle |
Most of the responses to the poster's problem, I must say, are out of context. The op is not telling us what he has been spending. He is projecting his budget based on the new fuel price. I see people telling him his car is bad to gulp 35k fuel a week. Guys, a simple Toyota Camry has 70litre tank, to fill up in the past was 14k average, now it costs 35k!!!! It will still finish within a week, especially with Ajah traffic. I think the problem is the post is too premature. If you had posted this by June ending, the responses would have been very different. Bus fare from Oshodi to ajah this morning was 1500 one way. Imagine you go 3-4k on public transport daily, you will understand the budget. Una dey play!!! |
Buy Mobil 2000, 5w30 and use. You will enjoy your car much better and don't forget to give us a review. It's about 12k from Mobil filling station |
You presently have no engine thermostat in your civic, or at best its stuck in an open position. Go to oyingbo and buy a functional thermostat, install it, make sure your radiator fans work off and on as per factory setting (and not the always on naija mechanics advocate). Do these things, and thank me. Surprising folks still do not appreciate the effect of these things on car fuel economy. |
ping2ping:Drive the car with the 20w50 oil for a month. Note the fuel economy and performance. Thereafter change to Mobil 2000 5w30 semi synthetic oil. Only then can you be sure of the difference in performance and fuel efficiency. The 5w30 is better by miles. I've tried both. |
I used that car for almost 4years...solid, reliable, fuel efficient ride. I don't think your gear is selecting. You would feel it is but Honda has a limp mode for the gear system, where it goes from 1 to 2, and helps you get home. But you hardly can go beyond 60km/hr. That explains the drag and bad fuel economy. It may be your solenoids are bad, or you just replace the gear. It's cheap |
I wanted to comment on the previous advice but let me rather share my recent personal experience. I recently bought a naija used 04 corolla. Badly used and abused. It was so bad that the seller who's a colleague told me the only way I can enjoy the car is to buy a new engine and gear..over 450k. It was so bad he couldn't get up to 50miles (80km) on 3k fuel. I told him no problem. Sell me the car. First thing I noticed... Fan was permanently on via a relay, thermostat was absent. Temperature Guage never got above quarter no matter how long you drove. First thing I did was to reconnect fan to normal and clean the throttle body. First time in ages, tachometer started going on 1000rpm or slightly below. Temperature Guage also started getting to middle after about 15mins from cold start. Car was quieter and more energetic. I was also now getting 19mpg ie abt 95 miles (150km) on 3k fuel. Mind you, gear selection became better. I used it like this for abt 4 weeks. Then I asked my mechanic to get a tokunbo thermostat. We tested it and installed it. Magic happened. Temperature Guage started getting to middle in 3-5mins from cold start. Car became very smooth, fast and quiet. To cap it, I started getting 24mpg ie 120miles (195km) on same 3k. Gear is perfect now. It's been like this now for about 6 months. No engine or gear issues. My colleague no fit believe his eyes. So op, please for a 2010 camry with expensive engine, please remove that relay. Let your fan become automatic, then PLEASE buy a thermostat and install coolant. You will see the difference and testify. Thermostats can go bad, it takes years though if you get a good one. When it's bad, change it, don't delete it. E get why |
Bought mine 3k when it was bad. It's d prnd switch |
Is yr odometer in kilometers or miles. That's the first step. Show a pix of the dashboard |
Fedrams:The reply to your question was wrong. You need to check yr odometer to know if it's calibrated in miles or kilometers. If it's 314miles, and you achieved that with 30litres (8.1gallons), then your mpg is 38.7, which I can almost say is impossible for city driving even for a corolla. If it's 314km (196miles), then your mpg is 24.2 which is just fair for a corolla. So recheck and be sure. |
Should any of the fans be running continuously? That contributes to the low engine temperature |
2005 camry uses a 5 speed gear notoriously called 13 pin gear. Same gear used in the 2007 camry muscle. Please use the recommended trans oil, WS, not type iv. Gear is expensive |
What brand of coolant did u use? |
cybernetics5:Mile 2 to ajah, through Orile, to and fro is 60miles (96km). I've done that with 12/13litres, same car, v6. Please scan your car, and check if it's operating at its optimum. Is your thermostat absent? Are your fans connected direct? Are your plugs even good? That car is very fuel efficient for a v6 engine. |
From experience, your catalyst(s) are most likely blocked. Especially true if you also notice increased fuel consumption and also feel the car is struggling to move fast. Hondas are very prone to blocked catalysts and engine failure, if not quickly addressed. Check your catalysts and exhaust. Fast!!! |
Look at the wonders of sludge in naija used cars

Which transmission oil was used for the new gear? |
How are we sure you don't mean 64miles which is very different from 64km. You need to show us a picture of yr speedometer so we are really sure |
temmym4:Will you keep quiet.... In PEJ's voice. Seriously let's stop saying what we do not know. I have used 4 Honda accords of different years, 3 out of them v6. Not one of them had a transmission problem. You make it sound like it's a bad car simply because Gazzuzz says so. Haba. My present car is a v6 discussion continues. I bought it Nigerian used with a bad gear and engine. I changed them both, This is 2years now, not a single hiccup from either transmission and engine. Veeeery quiet, smooth and fuel efficient ride. I use original Honda dw1 and Mobil 1 5w30 for the gear and engine, respectively. It's been very reliable, I tell you. The ac chills better than the i4, and that's a fact any Honda user will tell you. Neither the previous owner or I have had any ac problems. Original compressor still on the car. Op, enjoy your ride. You can pm me for any other questions |
Your bulbs are not positioned properly. Simple. A good electrician at night will help you reposition them. If Toyota could make 05 camry with good lights, why will the 07 have poor lights. Even with the white hid lights you won't still see well until the bulb positions are sorted out |
That's the main issue. You may say 300km but if it's calibrated in miles, that's actually 480km. You have to be sure. If it's 300 miles, your car is fine |
Please update the house on how it goes |
I drive in Lagos, headquarters of traffic. Just buy platinum iridium plugs brand new, and make sure your fans come on and off as manufacturer intended |
I use the same car, a 2007 honda accord v6. Honestly this has nothing to do with presence or absence of catalyst as I removed mine when I found out they were blocked and were about to damage my engine From full tank, I usually do abt 150-170miles when I get to the half tank mark and 270-280miles by empty. All this within the city and with ac. Change yr plugs to the correct grade, check if yr cooling system is factory spec, and use the right oil grade. Thank me later |

If running a red light is not dangerous driving, what then is dangerous driving? |
The price of an untampered, tokunbo transmission for the 01-03 qx4 as at December, 2016, was 60k. It should not be far from that now. |
