TOPIC: CONTINUING IN THE APOSTLES' DOCTRINES AND FELLOWSHIP
READ: ACTS 2:41-47 (NKJV)

2:41. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added [to them.]
2:42. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
2:43. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
2:44. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,
2:45. and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
2:46. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,
2:47. praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

THE MESSAGE:

No one becomes a business tycoon by opening his business center once a week. No one makes first class honors in the university by attending classes once a week. The bad habit of attending Church once a week does not help a believer. Church programs including morning prayer, bible study, mid-week service, prayer and fasting, revival, crusade, evangelism, and Sunday Church service enhance our spiritual well-being and so should be attended.

We must never neglect assembling together for fellowship and teaching of the word of God (Hebrews 10:25). By continuing daily with one accord in Church fellowship, exposure to pure doctrines of Jesus Christ and those of the apostles, will help us overcome the end time doctrines of demons. In fellowship, we are sharpened. To be vibrant, we must give ourselves to the ministry of the word, to prayer, breaking of bread, etc. When we follow the ways of the early apostles, wonders and signs will confirm God's word we preach. Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58).

PRAYER: Father help me to be steadfast in the apostles' doctrines and fellowship in Jesus' name, Amen!

*TEXT:* ACTS 1: 12-14 _*(NKJV)*_

1:12. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.
1:13. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James [the son] of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas [the son] of James.
1:14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

*MESSAGE:*

In the lists of the Apostles in the Synoptic Gospels, Bartholomew _(literally 'son of Tolmai, always linked with Philip)_ , is the same person called Nathaniel in St. John's Gospel (John 1: 45-46). It was not unusual for one man to have two or more names at that time. He is always true to himself, Jesus commends him that he has no guile (he is not hypocritical); this could be one of the virtues that Jesus saw in him that qualified him to be one of His Apostles. Bartholomew, together with the other Apostles and the women, gathered in the upper room and devoted themselves to prayer till they were filled with the Holy Spirit. This led to the outburst of revival in the early Church.

In these evil days, fervent prayers from believers with no hypocrisy and guile are needed for the nation, the Church, and families. _"When they had prayed the place in which they were gathered together was shaken”_ (Acts 4:31). Now that we sit where they sat, we dare not play with holy living. Fervent prayers can only be offered by sanctified vessels of honor who live in biblical obedience and holiness. We must depart from iniquity, or sin will make us depart from prayer. If holy men and women lift up holy hands, without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17), the prayers are effective and avail much (James 5:16).

TOPIC: FORGIVENESS AND RECONCILIATION
READ: 2 SAMUELl 14:1-24 (NKJV)

14:1. So Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart [was] concerned about Absalom.
14:2. And Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman, and said to her, "Please pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel; do not anoint yourself with oil, but act like a woman who has been mourning a long time for the dead.
14:3. "Go to the king and speak to him in this manner." So Joab put the words in her mouth.
14:4. And when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground and prostrated herself, and said, "Help, O king!"
14:5. Then the king said to her, "What troubles you?" And she answered, "Indeed I [am] a widow, my husband is dead.
14:6. "Now your maidservant had two sons; and the two fought with each other in the field, and [there was] no one to part them, but the one struck the other and killed him.
14:7. "And now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, 'Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.' So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband [neither] name nor remnant on the earth."
14:8. Then the king said to the woman, "Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you."
14:9. And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, "My lord, O king, [let] the iniquity [be] on me and on my father's house, and the king and his throne [be] guiltless."
14:10. So the king said, "Whoever says [anything] to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you anymore."
14:11. Then she said, "Please let the king remember the LORD your God, and do not permit the avenger of blood to destroy anymore, lest they destroy my son." And he said, "[As] the LORD lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground."
14:12. Therefore the woman said, "Please, let your maidservant speak [another] word to my lord the king." And he said, "Say on."
14:13. So the woman said: "Why then have you schemed such a thing against the people of God? For the king speaks this thing as one who is guilty, [in that] the king does not bring his banished one home again.
14:14. "For we will surely die and [become] like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.
14:15. "Now therefore, I have come to speak of this thing to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. And your maidservant said, 'I will now speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his maidservant.
14:16. 'For the king will hear and deliver his maidservant from the hand of the man [who would] destroy me and my son together from the inheritance of God.'
14:17. "Your maidservant said, 'The word of my lord the king will now be comforting; for as the angel of God, so [is] my lord the king in discerning good and evil. And may the LORD your God be with you.' "
14:18. Then the king answered and said to the woman, "Please do not hide from me anything that I ask you." And the woman said, "Please, let my lord the king speak."
14:19. So the king said, "[Is] the hand of Joab with you in all this?" And the woman answered and said, "[As] you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant.
14:20. "To bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my lord [is] wise, according to the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that [is] in the earth."
14:21. And the king said to Joab, "All right, I have granted this thing. Go therefore, bring back the young man Absalom."
14:22. Then Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, "Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord, O king,, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant.” 23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. 24 And the king said, “Let him return to his own house, but do not let him see my face.” So Absalom returned to his own house, but did not see the king’s face.

THE MESSAGE:

Absalom was in exile for three years because of the death of Amnon. David, a man after God's heart, later forgave him and longed to go forth to him. Joab perceived that King David's heart was towards Absalom, so he stepped in for adequate reconciliation. Joab, with a wise woman of Tekoah, plotted to get David to bring Absalom back home; they pleaded for Absalom's ram. By Joab's direction, this woman had an audience with David persuaded him to spare Absalom's life. David forgave Absalom and sent Joab to bring him back.

We must be instruments for reconciliation. It is wrong to say "I will never forgive him or her." The will of God is that we should forgive those who offend us and not retain their sins in our hearts. Let us make peace while we live. Instead of sowing the seed of discord as talebearers and wicked informants, let us be peacemakers and agents of reconciliation. In Christ, through the Gospel of salvation, we should also reconcile men back to God and fulfill our ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

*PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to forgive those who offend me, Amen!

*TEXT:* 2 SAMUEL 13: 37-39 _*(NKJV)*_

13:37. But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And [David] mourned for his son every day.
13:38. So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
13:39. And King David longed to go to Absalom, for he had been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead.

*MESSAGE:*

Life is of a great value and does not consist in the abundance of one's possessions or status. In today's text, the expression “Absalom fled” appears twice. That he was King David's son meant nothing-he fled for his life to Geshur for three years. He knew the consequences of murder in Israel, so he escaped to avoid the wrath of the law, David's anger and family discipline. He knew that _"Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed”_ (Gen. 9:6) and because the blood of Amnon pursued him. It is written _"...and blood shall pursue you, because you are guilty of blood, therefore, blood shall pursue you"_ (Ezek. 35: 6).

How many people have you murdered in your heart, with your tongue, through abortion, poison and ritual? If a man flees from fellow men, to whom will he escape if God has marked him for destruction? If hands join together, sinners will never go unpunished. How can you sit on the gunpowder of sin and think all is well? Flee to Jesus now and be saved.

Dear Father, please help me to live to escape Your coming wrath, *Amen.*

13:21. But when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.
13:22. And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad. For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
13:23. And it came to pass, after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which [is] near Ephraim; so Absalom invited all the king's sons.
13:24. Then Absalom came to the king and said, "Kindly note, your servant has sheepshearers; please, let the king and his servants go with your servant."
13:25. But the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you." Then he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him.
13:26. Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us." And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you?"
13:27. But Absalom urged him; so he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.
13:28. Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Watch now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon!' then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant."
13:29. So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and each one got on his mule and fled.
13:30. And it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, "Absalom has killed all the king's sons, and not one of them is left!"
13:31. So the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the ground, and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.
13:32. Then Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered and said, "Let not my lord suppose they have killed all the young men, the king's sons, for only Amnon is dead. For by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
13:33. "Now therefore, let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead. For only Amnon is dead."
13:34. Then Absalom fled. And the young man who was keeping watch lifted his eyes and looked, and there, many people were coming from the road on the hillside behind him.
13:35. And Jonadab said to the king, "Look, the king's sons are coming; as your servant said, so it is."
13:36. So it was, as soon as he had finished speaking, that the king's sons indeed came, and they lifted up their voice and wept. Also the king and all his servants wept very bitterly.

*MESSAGE:*

In today's text, we observe the consequences of Amnon's deliberate wickedness against his own blood sister, Tamar. When Amnon enticed Tamar, she didn't consent. She said, "No, my brother, do not force me; for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this wanton folly" (2 Sam.13:12). This is a big lesson for our young girls today. After Amnon defiled her, Absalom determined from that day to revenge and destroy Amnon. His opportunity came on the day Absalom had sheepshearers and his brothers were invited. By Absalom's command, when Amnon's heart was merry with wine, Absalom's servants killed him. King David's sons fled and when the bad news reached David, there was bitter weeping.

All sins are very deadly: Sin is a disgrace-the soul that sins must die unless the sinner repents. This sin cost Amnon his life! It is only righteousness that exalts a person; upon righteousness a person is established. Beloved, flee from adultery, idolatry, fornication, covetousness, lies, unforgiveness, malice, hatred, enmity, and lust. Jesus is the only way out from sins. He is still the last sacrifice for sins. As we call upon the name of God, let us depart from iniquity, for the wages of sins remain death (Rev. 21:.

Lord, in Your mercy, help me to depart from sin, in Jesus' name, *Amen!*
