*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* THURSDAY, 12TH JUNE, 2025 *THEME:* THE PROMISED HOLY GHOST

*TEXT:* ACTS 2: 33-44 _*(NKJV)*_

2:33. "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
2:34. "For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand,
2:35. Till I make Your enemies Your footstool." '
2:36. "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
2:37. Now when they heard [this,] they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men [and] brethren, what shall we do?"
2:38. Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
2:39. "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
2:40. And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation."
2:41. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added [to them.]
2:42. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
2:43. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
2:44. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,

*MESSAGE:*

The experience of the day of Pentecost was amazing to both the Apostles and Gentiles that witnessed it (Acts 2:1-6). The Apostles had been waiting in Jerusalem to be empowered as instructed by Jesus Christ on his day of ascension. As promised and expected, The Holy Ghost came upon all of them in the house and they were empowered to: (i) speak in tongues (ii) boldly preach the gospel.

The empowerment of the Holy Ghost was so heavy on the Apostles that day to the extent that Peter's preaching alone pricked the hearts of his hearers so convincingly that they asked; "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:37). Peter responded in the power of the Holy Ghost that they should repent and be baptised and this made about three thousand souls to be added to the church that day (Acts 2:41). Baptism of the Holy Ghost is inevitable for ministerial success and fulfilment of a believer's calling. Therefore, ask for it and you will receive in good measure as promised by the Lord.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, let the promised Holy Ghost come upon me like in the day of Pentecost in Jesus' Name, *Amen!*

*QUOTE FOR THE DAY*

CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

(Monday after Pentecost)
TOPIC: SALVATION FOR ALL
READ: ACTS 2:5-13 (NKJV)

2:5. And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
2:6. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
2:7. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
2:8. "And how [is it that] we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?
2:9. "Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
2:10. "Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
2:11. "Cretans and Arabs -- we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God."
2:12. So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "Whatever could this mean?"
2:13. Others mocking said, "They are full of new wine."

THE MESSAGE:

Jews from all over the world were in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, with each hearing the disciples speak in his own language. The Holy Spirit that was poured out on the disciples gave them the ability to proclaim the mighty deeds of God through Christ, in different languages (Acts 2:6-cool. God used the Pentecost experience to bring the nations of the earth together. In fact, the Holy Spirit broke the language barrier so that the Gospel could reach everybody.

In the Old Testament, God restricted the work of salvation to the Jews. However, through Jesus Christ, He extended His arms of salvation to every race in the world (Revelation 7:9). Today, Christ's work of redemption, deliverance and salvation is being proclaimed in almost all languages of the earth, thus bringing the gospel of salvation to all (Titus 2:11). However, in our text, while some observers of the Pentecost spectacle stood in awe and deep meditation on what God was doing, some made jest of God's move. How are you responding to God's free offer of salvation today? (1 Corinthians 1:18).

PRAYER: Merciful Father, let Your word mix with faith in my life as I accept Your free offer of salvation today, Amen!

TOPIC: POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
READ: ACTS 1:1-8 (NKJV)

1:1. The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
1:2. until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,
1:3. to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
1:4. And being assembled together with [them,] He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," [He said,] "you have heard from Me;
1:5. "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
1:6. Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
1:7. And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
1:8. "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

THE MESSAGE:

The Greek word for 'Power' is 'Dunamis' which means strength and ability in operation and in action. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity who is sent to help Disciples of Christ in the work of witnessing for Him. The power of the Holy Spirit imparts the boldness to preach Jesus as Lord and Saviour and enables believers in Christ to achieve mighty works in Christ's Name as well as helps in deepening the relationship with God the Father and Son.

The promise of the power of the Holy Spirit is for all believers in Christ, including you, if you have genuinely repented of your sins and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour. You can receive this power by having a deep hunger and desire for it. But we must remember that this power can only be sustained by prayer, as well as a life of sanctification and witness.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, fill my life with the power of the Holy Spirit for effective evangelism, Amen!

READ: LUKE 9:27-36 (NKJV)

9:27. "But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God."
9:28. Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
9:29. As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe [became] white [and] glistening.
9:30. And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
9:31. who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
9:32. But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him.
9:33. Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, [that] Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah" -- not knowing what he said.
9:34. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud.
9:35. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!"
9:36. When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.

THE MESSAGE:

One of the reasons for the transfiguration experience was to reveal the real identity of Jesus. From the previous verses, many persons, including Herod and Peter, had different understanding of who Jesus was.
Many thought Jesus to be Elijah or some other Prophets who rose from the dead; some took Him for John the Baptist (Luke 9:7-9). Even when Jesus asked Peter who the people thought Him to be, he gave the same answer that Herod had (verse 19). In fact, Peter, despite being with Jesus for long, had a wrong understanding of the personality of Jesus "The Christ of God" (νerse 20).

We would have continued to hear different opinions about the personality of Jesus if not for God who clearly identified Jesus with a loud voice as 'His only Son' (verse 36). You will be doing yourself a great harm if the identity of Jesus is still a mystery to you. Jesus is the only pattern that we have to model our lives after and take instructions from. Acknowledging Him as the true Son of God is key to enter into the eternal kingdom of God.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please teach me to know You and enjoy eternal rest with You, Amen!

34:5. So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
34:6. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day.
34:7. Moses [was] one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished.
34:8. And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping [and] mourning for Moses ended.

THE MESSAGE:

Moses died in the land of Moab after taking a view of the Promised Land from the top of Mount Nebo. The Lord Himself buried him in the valley, in the land of Moab. Moses, the servant of the Lord who ministered to Israel for forty years could not enjoy the privilege of entering the Promised Land. He saw the land described by God as flowing with milk and honey, but did not enter in with the children of Israel because of sin. We must note that there are consequences for every action we take in life. God hates sin, hence, we must avoid it. Although Moses died at 120 years, with a sound mind and body and was mourned for thirty days by the children of Israel, he was not fully fulfilled because of sin.

Although Moses' sin was forgiven, still he had to suffer the consequence of his action. "Sin has consequences.". We therefore need to make things right with God when we sin. No matter how small we may perceive a sin to be, it is a serious matter before God. Sin leads to death, spiritually and physically. Saul died because of his sin (1 Chronicles 10:13-14; Romans 6:23). Sin attracts God's wrath (Colossians 3:6). Because of its consequences, we need to confess our sins and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus (1 John 1-7; Romans 6:23). Do you need to make things right with God? Do not delay, take that action now.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to forsake sin, so that I may not miss heaven, Amen!

*TOPIC: A STEADFAST DETERMINATION*

*TEXT*: 2 Kings 2:1-15(NKJV)

2:1. And it came to pass, when the LORD was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2:2. Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, please, for the LORD has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “[As] the LORD lives, and [as] your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they went down to Bethel.
2:3. Now the sons of the prophets who [were] at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from over you today?” And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent!”
2:4. Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, please, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.” But he said, “[As] the LORD lives, and [as] your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they came to Jericho.
2:5. Now the sons of the prophets who [were] at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from over you today?” So he answered, “Yes, I know; keep silent!”
2:6. Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, please, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.” But he said, “[As] the LORD lives, and [as] your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So the two of them went on.
2:7. And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood facing [them] at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan.
2:8. Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled [it] up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
2:9. And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
2:10. So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. [Nevertheless,] if you see me [when I am] taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be [so.”]
2:11. Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire [appeared] with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
2:12. And Elisha saw [it,] and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.
2:13. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
2:14. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where [is] the LORD God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.
2:15. Now when the sons of the prophets who [were] from Jericho saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.

STUDY:
From the time Elijah left Gilgal to the moment Elisha received the blessing of a double portion from Elijah, Elisha encountered several trials that tried to hinder him, but he remained focused in order to receive the double portion.

Our study today outlines what it took Elisha to obtain the double portion he desired. At different points in Elisha’s journey with Elijah, the sons of the Prophets asked him the same question: “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from you today?”. Also, Elijah tried three times to discourage Elisha from following him.

The Jordan River also stood as a barrier between Elisha and the ultimate goal; yet he went on. When we decide that we want to serve God wholeheartedly, we will encounter obstacles on our paths and many times, these obstacles are there because God allowed them (Rom. 8:28).

They are there to test our resolve, but when we persist, God will prove himself faithful. If God has put a determination in your heart to go with him, then let nothing keep you away from doing so. Let us be persistent in our faith without giving up. Elisha persisted and continued with Elijah until he was taken up and he got what he desired.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, give us sufficient grace to in our resolve to follow you Amen!

TOPIC: GOD IS TAKING RECORD
READ: GENESIS 5: 21-24 (NKJV)

5:21. Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah.
5:22. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.
5:23. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years.
5:24. And Enoch walked with God; and he [was] not, for God took him.

THE MESSAGE:

Our text today is about Enoch who walked with God but did not die because God took him. The records of those that lived before and after Enoch in the scriptures indicate names, children and number of years lived. But the uniqueness in Enoch is that he did the will of God. In the entire Bible, Enoch and Elijah enjoyed the same transition from earth to heaven because their lives pleased God (Genesis 5:24; 2 Kings 2:11&12).

The significance of Enoch's story is to remind every believer that God takes record of all actions, the intents of our hearts, and the place of faith in our Christian journey. As believers, we should also note that we can remain faithful even in a perverse world because without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Without faith in God, our Christian journey is in vain. It is by faith that we believe in God and the scripture. The story of Enoch is to challenge us to have faith in God and do His Will. We should beware of how we live our lives because God keeps record.

PRAYER: Dear God, please help me to sustain my faith in You to the end in Jesus' Name, Amen!

READ: EPHESIANS 4:1-13 (NKJV)

4:1. I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
4:2. with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
4:3. endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4:4. [There is] one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;
4:5. one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
4:6. one God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
4:7. But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.
4:8. Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men."
4:9. (Now this, "He ascended" -- what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
4:10. He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
4:11. And He Himself gave some [to be] apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
4:12. for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
4:13. till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

THE MESSAGE:

Breaking down the wall of denomination in promoting oneness and unity among Christians is pressing in the heart of God now more than ever. It is evident from our text today that we are of one body and one faith, united in Christ Jesus, for good works. Believers are called to develop a deep love for Jesus and a genuine burden to build the body of Christ in newness of life. They are also to see themselves as one, operating under one Spirit of God, without any division.

The admonition of Paul to the Ephesian Christians is relevant to believers in Christ today. The Body of Christ is divided along lines of doctrines, traditions and beliefs, but if the Church will fully accomplish the purpose of reconciling sinners to Christ, influencing governance and society positively, our unity as one body, operating under the Holy Spirit is critical (1 Corinthians 12:12&13). The unity and oneness of the Church is rooted in the Sovereignty of God and sustained in absolute faith in Christ (Ephesians 4:4-6). The five gifts also identified as fivefold ministry of the Church is meant to bring the Church together as one and to sustain our unity in Christ (Ephesians 4:11). Let us use our different gifts to edify and unite the Church.

PRAYER: Everlasting God, help the body of Christ to be united under the power of the Holy Spirit, Amen!
