THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: THURSDAY, JULY 03, 2025 (Saint Thomas, the Apostle) TOPIC: MY LORD AND MY GOD! READ: JOHN 20:24-29 (NKJV) 20:24. Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 20:25. The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." 20:26. And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!" 20:27. Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand [here,] and put [it] into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing." 20:28. And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 20:29. Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed." THE MESSAGE: Today we remember the life and ministry of St. Thomas, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. His Hebrew name, Thomas, with its Greek equivalent, Didymus, mean 'a twin.' Thomas was a Jew and probably from Galilee (Acts 1:11). He was a fisherman like Peter and Andrew. The first mention of his name was when Jesus chose the twelve and sent them out in pairs. His life changed when he met Jesus Christ and he became one of his (Christ's) messengers who received power over all forms of diseases. More importantly, his name was written in the heavenly book of life (Luke 10:17-26). Thomas chose not to lay the foundation of his faith on hearsay; he was bent on seeing the risen Lord before he could believe that He had resurrected (verses 24-25). When Jesus Christ came around the second time to the disciples, Thomas was there so Jesus asked him to come over and touch His pierced palm. The apostle exclaimed, "My Lord and my God" (verse 28). Beloved, as we remember the life and ministry of Apostle Thomas, we must remember that he was first called into fellowship with Jesus Christ and he obeyed. This means that he found and knew Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. You also must come to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In addition, Apostle Thomas chose not to depend on what others told him; he desired a personal encounter so that his testimony about Jesus Christ would be stained (1 John 1:1-3). You also need a personal and convincing experience of Jesus Christ to win souls to the Kingdom of God. Instead of going around to mix up the message of the cross, you need to cry out to the Lord for an encounter that will give you a genuine story of God's love. You should be able to say in humble adoration to the Lord, "My Lord and my God." PRAYER Father, grant me grace to believe You even when it does not make sense, Amen! |

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: WEDNESDAY, JULY 02, 2025 TOPIC: WEALTH DOES NOT MAKE LIFE COUNT READ: ECCLESIASTES 1:12-18 (NKJV) 1:12. I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 1:13. And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven; this burdensome task God has given to the sons of man, by which they may be exercised. 1:14. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all [is] vanity and grasping for the wind. 1:15. [What is] crooked cannot be made straight, And what is lacking cannot be numbered. 1:16. I communed with my heart, saying, "Look, I have attained greatness, and have gained more wisdom than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My heart has understood great wisdom and knowledge." 1:17. And I set my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is grasping for the wind. 1:18. For in much wisdom [is] much grief, And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. THE MESSAGE: It is clear from our reading today that king Solomon was wealthy and wise (velse 16), yet he considered every struggle under heaven as extreme travail. He noted that he had estate and had great experience of wisdom and knowledge but concluded that all the toiling of man under the sun is vexation of spirit. In other words, all labour and struggles are just meaningless; they are not what man should live for. Beloved, it is painful to note that the same things many people are doing everything good and bad to acquire is here described by Solomon, who enjoyed real wealth, as vanity and vexation of spirit. It is very crucial for Christians to check who they are living for in this temporary world. Some children of God are busy each day running after gold and silver while paying little or no attention to their salvation and proper journey to heaven. Without doubt, God has given us all things richly to enjoy in this life but nothing guarantees peace, joy and eternal rest more than our Christian sanctity. Only those who live for the Lord here will reign with Him in His everlasting Kingdom. Money, wealth, property and material possessions are important in our daily life's activities but we must not make them the reasons for our existence. If only in this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all men to be pitied most (1 Corinthians 12:19). PRAYER: Father, my confidence is in You; not in my possessions. You are my hope of everlasting life. Welcome to the Month of July May God Perfect Everything concerning You Amen. |

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE TUESDAY, JULY 01, 2025 TOPIC: VANITY OF VANITIES; ALL IS VANITY READ: ECCLESIASTES 1:1-11 (NKJV) 1:1. The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 1:2. "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher; "Vanity of vanities, all [is] vanity." 1:3. What profit has a man from all his labor In which he toils under the sun? 1:4. [One] generation passes away, and [another] generation comes; But the earth abides forever. 1:5. The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, And hastens to the place where it arose. 1:6. The wind goes toward the south, And turns around to the north; The wind whirls about continually, And comes again on its circuit. 1:7. All the rivers run into the sea, Yet the sea [is] not full; To the place from which the rivers come, There they return again. 1:8. All things [are] full of labor; Man cannot express [it.] The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with hearing. 1:9. That which has been [is] what will be, That which [is] done is what will be done, And [there is] nothing new under the sun. 1:10. Is there anything of which it may be said, "See, this [is] new"? It has already been in ancient times before us. 1:11. [There is] no remembrance of former [things,] Nor will there be any remembrance of [things] that are to come By [those] who will come after. THE MESSAGE: There seems to be little or no disagreement as to who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. It is generally believed to have been written by Solomon, the son of David. Without a doubt, in his time, Solomon was the wisest king that this world had produced; he was also the richest. King Solomon enjoyed life at its apex. He saw it all; had it all; and enjoyed it all (verse 16; 1 Kings 3:12-13). He was in the best position to make known by the Spirit of the Lord, the positive and negative impacts of a life of wealth. His conclusion was "vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit has a man of all his labour which he takes under the sun? One generation passes away, and another generation comes: but the earth abides forever" (verses 2-4). Beloved, while it is crucial for all Christians to be hardworking; it is also important to know that nothing is worth living or dying for, except Jesus Christ and his mission. Some of those who lived and laboured for other things apart from the kingdom of Christ; have been forgotten, even by their immediate family members. That which we cherish today will definitely become useless tomorrow. There is actually no need to use the blood or pain of a fellow human being as a ladder to becoming rich or famous. Those who do so do not only die untimely but are also forgotten. The only means of making our lives count before God is to live in Jesus Christ and prepare for eternal life. Life is all vanity without Christ. PRAYER: Father, give me the grace I need to make my life meaningful in Christ, Amen! HAPPY NEW MONTH |
