It will take a majority Conservative government to kick him out since NDP will continue to support him. He has to do something really really bad for there to be a vote of no confidence on his government.

It is truly remarkable

I'm delighted to have found this thread, and I'm currently one year into my study visa in Canada. Admittedly, I didn't conduct thorough research before choosing Montreal as my destination. Nevertheless, I believe that life is an ongoing learning experience, and I've decided to tackle the challenges and uncertainties head-on while conducting more personal research.

As I approach the completion of my studies next year, I find myself in a pivotal moment of planning for the future. My primary goal is to transition to an English-speaking province within Canada. In reaching out to this community, I hope to connect with members who have valuable experience navigating this stage of life. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to communicate via email to seek guidance, so as not to inconvenience anyone.

Thank you all, and may you be blessed abundantly.

You said the most important thing - you did not carry out a thorough research before going to the French-speaking part of Canada. I see that a lot. That said, the world is your oyster with regards to what you want to do next.

Do you learn French? Did you like the culture in Montreal? Have you experienced other areas outside Canada to compare? It is all about what you want. I know English-speaking people in the banking, IT and power generation sectors in Quebec. They love it there.

I know what it is like to live in an English and then a French and back to English-speaking country. Everything depends on your personal and family objective. Make the most of where you are before leaving. I made sure my family had French citizenship before leaving France. I advise that you get the very best of Montreal before leaving. You never know when you will need it.

All the best and I hope you find people who have been similar situations as you. Look at the facebook pages for British and French expats in Canada. You have plenty of people with similar experiences on there.

For those with kids, what are you doing for tomorrow's protest?

Are you homeschooling them tomorrow?

There are protests against LGBT indoctrination tomorrow.

I love what I'm seeing here. These discussions about the realities of living in Canada spiced up with pictures is what this thread is for. Not visa enquiries. FYI, I'm still in Naija as well so nobody can accuse me of not wanting others to know the way. I'm just saying this thread is not the right place for visa enquiries. Keep it coming, "Canadians" y'all are doing well. cheesy

People do not read so no surprises how people will derail the thread.

Good discussion! Let me give my own opinion. Warning: this is a long one! Sorry smiley

One of the YouTubers I was listening to the other day also mentioned something about how daycare is expensive for them. I'm actually quite surprised she didn't expect this before coming to Canada. It simply means she didn't do her research well. If she did, she'd have planned better for this. Maybe prioritize only WFH jobs? Maybe move without the kids for starters? Whatever is possible, good research will most certainly tell her what to do. What's plain dumb is coming on YouTube to lament about it, as if it was not expected. There's a reason most Canadians are content with just having one or two kids and no more. This is something they have an intimate understanding of while growing up. Most of them have even ruled out kids completely, which is not an entirely bad move for someone who wants to stay financially independent. Again, it's the way of life. And that's why you will hardly ever see a Canadian go on YouTube to complain about expensive daycare. The Nigerian, on the other hand, comes into the country expecting things to be exactly like they left it in Nigeria. Sorry, babe, that's not how life works. You needed to understand this well before making your Canada move. If you did, you will plan much better for it.

There are different sides to Canada, let’s be real. There’s the good and the bad. But one thing I can tell you for real is that opportunities abound, but only if you set your mind to earning those opportunities. That much is true.

Many people do not do strategic planning. It is absolute madness to relocate to a country without a thorough research.

Many of these people end up as hungry youtubers feeding lazy people with poor information.

Only a handful of quality YouTube content makers out there.

Hi guys, it's weekend let's have this discussion.

So I've been here for close to 4months with my wife and son.My pregnant wife does a WFH call centre job but I'm not yet working.I'm self studying and hoping to start applying for IT jobs(cloud computing) in November coming from a non-IT background.I still have my online gig which makes me about $1500/month currently. What we earn is sufficient for us,and we are happy.I was doing extremely well back home with lots of investments but we decided to make the move for lots of mostly non-financial reasons. We absolutely have no regrets over our move.

However,we have been seeing so much negativity, bitter complains and outright vilification of how bad Canada is on Tiktok/IG/Facebook and this is making us a little worried.Do any of you regret your move? What percentage would you estimate of Nigerians who couldn't make it here migrating LEGALLY(PR, student to PR, Work visa)? Any thoughts?

I will try to summarise here and hopefully it will help people who are planning to land Canada. These are purely my opinions based on researches I have carried out and personal experiences I have lived. In the end, you need a reference and you can then compare Canada based on your reference and what people are saying. Anyone who would listen to people in order to decide probably has not thought of things carefully. There is long term thinking and short term thinking. Many people I see do short term thinking for Canada.

This is my reference. I have Nigerian, UK (Scotland and England), French work experience and in the last couple of years have carefully considered UK/France/Canada. Even after getting PR confirmed last year, it was still 50-50 on whether to go to Canada. We visited Canada a couple of times and went back to the UK a few times to get a feel for things. If you were not in Canada, where would you have been?

These following resources/contacts helped me with motivation, focus, jobs, information on life in Canada and info on UK vs Canada or Canada vs France.

- LinkedIN networking
- Preparing for my professional certification/recognition in Canada.
- British Expats In Canada (facebook group)
- Les Français au Canada (facebook group)
- French in Toronto
- Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy and Stephen Covey's tapes over and over
- Old classmates living in Canada with successful careers
- TEF Community on nairaland (ever grateful to the lady that shared her prep my future access. Cannot remember her name)
- Avoiding negative people on the social web
- Aligning with positive people on the web.
- Avoiding youtube videos like "Top 10 reasons why people are leaving Canada" No. 1 Canada is cold (people have gotta be dumb not to have known that become coming here). No. 2 Canada is lonely (Really? No. Rather, they are boring). No. 3 No jobs in Canada (Not accurate!) No 4 Canada is expensive (True, but so are many other countries) etc. I watched a few of them out of curiosity but stopped when I discovered that it was basically desperate youtubers churning out the same garbage (nothing new, nothing innovative, just copy and paste). I rather focussed on videos of success stories - you attract what you focus on.

You have done well by coming to Canada with your family. Congrats. Now, you need to stay focussed.

Stephen Covey said “All things are created twice “There’s a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation to all things. Create a positive future in Canada for you and your family. “Abraham Lincoln said: ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it'.

You are the right place in Canada. If I had to pick between Nigeria, Scotland, England, France and Canada using the KWINK analysis by Brian Tracy, I would pick Canada again and again.

PM for more positivity if you want and if you want to sharpen the saw.

So in addition to the cars being stolen using technology, a car can literally be towed away the same way the repo men tow cars using their trucks.

Honda CRV is top on the list of most stolen cars.

I get it

That is the reason why insurers in Canada will not rely on the tracking system by Honda CRV for instance. TD insurance does this.

They will insist on installing an immobiliser from their approved list and installation done in a separate company than Honda.

Hello everyone. Please I need advice. By God's grace, I will be landing in Canada by January with PR under the new Healthcare category but I also want to get some other certifications that will help me in job search. I want to be Agile/Scrum master certified but I'm confused between PMP (Project Management) certification or Business Analysis certification, which one will help me in securing employment in Canada's current job market

I do not know so much about Business Analysis Certification. The advise I can give is that do not let the Certification be the driver. You have to have a clear 5 year plan regarding your career and see of PMP or Business Analysis will be useful during that time.

I know for a certainty that PMP is well considered in Canada. It is expensive but it teaches you plenty of useful concepts. You would of course be expected to have had some background and be ready to apply it at work.

I was preparing for PMP myself and I have some materials I can share if you are interested.

All the best whatever you decide.

Salaam.

Car theft is a serious pandemic in Canada now. Be careful of the cars you see for sale in Nigeria. They might be stolen.

Nigeria is top 3 destination for stolen cars from Canada.

Organised theives steal cars in Canada and sell the cars to Africa and other parts of the world.

Bonjour à tous

I have a question about learning French from watching movies. My French is rudimentary at best (A2) and I’m trying to help my learning by watching movies. Which way would be easier? Watching French movies with English subtitles or English movies with French subtitles

Both is fine.

UK work permit thing is a pain in the bollocks.

Imagine what you have to pay for a family of 5. Plus the NHS surtax and all.

You would also have to earn a lot to break even.

When the offer came to go back to the UK I was like, nope, Canada PR here I come.

Thanks for sharing. Did you purchase on Aliexpress of something|? I'm planning to get furniture sets from China and I'm wondering how importing will look like with procedures and taxes.

It will be interesting to see. I imported from Europe. Stuff took about 4 weeks to arrive. I saw some Chinese guys at the Customs also waiting to clear their containers.

For buying furniture, they seem expensive here so we decided to bring our stuff. I would love to see how importing from China is like.

Anyone chief. You going about your daily activity. Leisurely ones though as I realize you might not have time for that due to work. The way the US guys always do their threads basically. FrankNetter, MackieNaija, Lionlee and co. They spiced up travel section.

Then narrating how life is over there. The facts people must know about living in Canada even the ones they don't want to hear.

I should have taken one yesterday. So yesterday we went to customs in Mississauga to sign for our furniture and other belongings that arrived Saturday night in a container. The process was easier than I thought. The good thing is that PR holders do not get to pay for customs duties if they declare their 'goods to follow' so it was a relief for me.

Also I hope you guys use the Canoo app. You get to visit a host of locations free of charge as permanent residents. We have visited the Toronto zoo a couple of times with the whole family and only pay for parking (15 CAD). A visit to the zoo for us family without the app is like 80 CAD or there about.

We will make some dashcams......

Which car insurance did you use when you started? Which ones gave you the most reasonable rates? Did the insurance companies take into account driving history from your countries. From searches I have made so far, only economical insurance recognises driving history from abroad. Do you know of any others that take driving history into account?

for EE to work at even age 40 it must be PNP. even with 8 ielts, masters plus bilingual status its still very difficult. go ahead & use crs calculator before dishing out misleading info. if EE was that easy, no one will use these expensive school pathways

Wrong again. You have limited knowledge on this one. Do not mislead people.

I got EE directly without PNP at the age of 42, married with with 3 kids. I had masters, over 10 years experience and I know French. So it must NOT be via PNP.

Some people had one year Canadian experience and got it at 43 even without French.

Again, do not mislead people. Do not make categorical statements when they are wrong. I got EE at 42 and people older than me have got it.

Do not demoralise people on here. Getting EE in your forties is possible and so people of that age brackets should feel encouraged. It is harder but possible as I can confirm.

They need to hear success stories and not doom and gloom info.

Good one if Expresss Entry is out of reach for u.
I worked in a bank in Nigeria, my branch manager is here with her family as a student due to age constraints as she don big pass EE.
Just look for schools in cheaper places, avoid Ontario and BC where students now sleep in tents.
Nova scotal and those Atlantic provinces are good, sch is cheap there however due to the influx of students there, the few accommodations is getting expensive now.
Look around Edmonton, there are schs here, I don't know their prices but I fell Edmonton is good. Also look at Saskatchewan, when I landed there last yr, I rented 2bedroom 1 toilet for $975/mnth

When you say "big pass EE" please mention her age. I know people who got EE at 43 years. Unless you are telling us that she is way older than 43. If someone can get it at 43, it is possible for someone older if they meet other requirements.

Yes, the older you get, the more difficult it is but they are by no means out of it.
