Family › Re: My 17 Year Old Niece Is Addicted To Porn - Should I Intervene by Enculer2: 5:43pm On Jul 13, 2023 |
questioner: My mum has people staying with her - my niece, an extended family member and a close family friend and her daughter. We are okay with it cos it ensures she always has company and reduces the need to always travel to check on her.
Recently the monthly subscription I do on the router at home, which usually has carry over data by the time it expires, now lasts about a week before they start calling me to renew Everybody in the house denied being the cause of the data drain.
Last week, I came to spend some days at my mum's and first thing I did was to install a network tracker to monitor. Long story short, I discovered the excessive consumption was from my niece but that's not the major issue. She was visiting porn sites which was draining data but that's still not the major prob. My problem was the frequency and how long she spent on porn daily.
The day I came, after she retreated to her room, the porn streaming started and didn't stop until the family member sharing a room with her came back at night. The next morning once the other lady left for work, she continued with the porn until it was time to leve for her lessons. Once she came back in the afternoon, she did some chores, ate, sat around the sitting room for a while and went inside and boom the porn resumed until the other girl came around hours later. This was practically the routine for the 4 days I stayed there.
The day I was to leave I told my mum that I observed the drain came from my niece and blocked her from the router. She called my niece and questioned her but she denied knowing anything about it, I spared her blushes by saying sometimes apps have background processes that consume data without the owner knowing.
Ever since, I have been wondering if I handled the situation properly. I didn't confront her about it cos I was concerned about the embarrassment she will feel for a male family to find out about her secret. She might even assume I have told my mum or my elder bro (her dad), which might weigh her down emotionally.
Also, I am concerned if this is a sign of promiscuity, she will be 17 next month And aside the fact that she's quite tall, she might as well pass for a 14 year old. She's barely endowed for her age- bottomline, not the kind of girl, you will associate with waywardness.
My question is 1. Would it have been better if I had confronted her 2. Is this a possible sign of promiscuity ? - if so, I will suggest mum sends her back to her Dad cos I am not sure at her advanced age she should be dealing with issues like this, to avoid stories that touch later on Nigerians and their brain. Leave her alone. |

ednut1: most does not mean all na. Some few companies do it for people with certain scarce skills. some also do arrangee. From indeed self most of the jobs ask for you work authorization true or false Correct. Which is why I say some companies. It depends on the skillset. For highly sought after jobs, companies do sponsor. Express entry remains a very good channel to PR for people with funds. I certainly do not advise people to pay consultants. Consultants are there to make quick money from people. |

So many fraudulent people around. Many Nigerians are fraudulent as well and many have taken their trade to Canada.
My recent visit to Canada revealed plenty of the damage Nigerians have done. They did plenty during the Covid-19 pandemic with frivolous claims.

ednut1: false information. Most employers will not entertain you without pr or post graduate work permit. Most employers don’t know how immigration works talk-less of LMIA. Like i said earlier you have less than a 5% chance thats if you have a scarce skill self. There are people paying as much as 20k to 30k for LMIA self. It depends on the company. Some companies will help with the work permit process. |

Business › Re: I Want To Arrest My Father For Selling My Palm Oil by Enculer2: 5:00pm On Jul 11, 2023 |
Hardtotrust: I am very very angry right now. I couldn't sleep last night. That is why I'm bringing this here this morning before I do something very bad. A father should be after the growth of his son and not after ruining him.
Please you guys should help me look into this matter. I understand that it was a matter of life and important concern.
I'm seriously struggling in the city to eck a living for myself and do the little I can for my family also. My father was a petty trader who hardly can provide adequate for the family. Some of us who come from a very poor background would understand this better. I mean coming from where absolutely nothing is kept for you. No support from the family and nothing, nothing and nothing. You are the one who die and same you would have to pour yourself water to come back to life. You, you and only you.
I buy fast consuming products and supply to people and make some gains from there. Sometimes I hawk the products. I was able to save up to N150k. Around May this year, I went to the village and bought some rubbers of palm oil and store them to sell around November/December and make gains.
Last week, I got a call that wind pulled off our house roof in the village. Since they are using small torchlight phone, I didn't get to see how serious the situation was. Even though I didn't have money, I sent N15k to help fix it. My father later called me and complained bitterly on why I sent just 15k, that according to the carpenter, that materials and workmanship would cost N65k. In my mind, I was just like, does this man even know how I survive here in the city?
For two nights, they didnt sleep in the house as the wind pulled off the rooof.
On Tuesday, I learnt my younger brother was being operated of Hernia. I know about the hernia but was under plan to raise money for it. And I knew there was no money to settle medical bills for operation. So I was shocked where they got the money to do operation.
As I traveled down yesterday to see them, dear Nairaland friends, all my rubbers of palm oil has been sold and the money spent on fixing the roof and paying for the medical bills for the hernia operation without my notice.
I am not taking this kindly with my father who engineered the whole thing and I want to arrest him to refund my money.
That is my life investment and it took me so much to raise the amount. Due to how things are now. I even wanted to sell two rubbers to invest back as the business is facing challenges now.
What should I do here to recover my money back? If I have another money, I would over look it but that is my life investment of my labour. You posted it and want advice. My 5 cents. You father has not done well.for himself to be relying on you. Is he disabled? How old are you? How old are your siblings? This is an example of a never ending iterative loop of poverty. Even if you earn more, you have leeches to drain you. It is a motivation for you to work hard so that even at 60, you are earning income for yourself and for your household and you rely on no one. All the best. |

NuCypher: The truth is that you don't have to be an "IT expert" to teach people. As long as you have a job somewhere and you are favourably discharging your duties, you can bring anyone up to speed to your level. It doesn't need you to be a guru. Bottomline, what most people do at work is the most basic things that can be easily taught. The most important thing is for the student who is looking for a teacher to rightly assess the teacher's qualifications and/or previous students to see if that teacher is the right fit for them before committing to a session.
If anyone is waiting for an "IT expert" to teach them, then they should be ready to pay through their nose. The average IT expert's time is worth at least $80 per hour. Not many people (outside of organizations) can pay that. In addition, most won't even find delight in teaching beginner/intermediate stuff. You are better off going to public MOOCs to learn or meet the average Joe who is working 9-5 somewhere, but has a passion to impart knowledge. Great word. |

Kenn55: Unfortunately it's becoming annoying. Almost everyone in IT with little experience these days is looking for who to teach and make money of them. Giving people false hope of getting jobs after parting with their hard earned money.
Someone I know in the field contacted me early this year asking if I could join hands and set up this tutor business, I declined. My conscience will not allow me, it is a rip off. Very good point you raised. Everyone is an IT "expert". LOL. So what is your area of specialisation ? |

Does anyone have any experience with kids in a Catholic School, preferably in Ontario? Also can you get Catholic schools that offer French immersion? Our kids speak French and we do not want them to lose the language.
Looking to rent in the Durham Region. I have received some not too good reviews about Oshawa. Any info on neighboring towns in the region would be appreciated- Whitby, Ajax, etc.
