The lender on Monday announced 18.3 percent surged in its gross earnings from N152 billion to N179.9 billion, while profit after tax reportedly grew by 93.7 percent to N18.9 billion, up from N9.7 billion recorded in 2016.

According to the audited report released through the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the lender recorded growth across key indices, following its return to the international capital market and successful issuance of $400 million Eurobond that was over-subscribed by over 200 percent.
Speaking on the results, the Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, said the bank sustained its performance through a disciplined balance sheet management and strategic cost reduction, coupled with increased focus on the corporate, commercial and small and medium enterprises segments.
“We are delighted at the results, which showed strong growth in key revenue lines, significant traction in our chosen business segments and a corresponding decline in our operating expenses despite the high inflationary environment”, he stated.

nairavsdollars: Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice- President on Monday said the current N18,000 minimum wage currently being paid to workers by the federal government is not only ill-motivating but embarrassing .
In his May Day message to Nigerian workers, Atiku, who is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) noted that Nigerian workers are going through the most trying economic times in Nigeria’s history.
The statement reads in full “Nigerian workers, I congratulate you for this day. I salute your courage and resilience going through one of the most trying economic times in Nigeria’s history. But these challenges are showing how resilient and hardworking Nigerians are and that your indomitable spirit and work ethic will continue to go unchallenged throughout all of Africa.
These values have been the bedrock of Nigeria’s labour movement since its beginning. A movement which started off to protect the welfare of railways workers and later coal miners in the days of colonial administrations in Nigeria. A movement that has grown in height and status as the single largest rights protection organization, representing not less than sixty million workers in our country.
Owing to the sheer size of its membership, the labour movements in Nigeria – under the umbrellas of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress – have evolved to become the pivot of governments’ objectives of delivering good governance and providing higher standard of living.
Over the years, our labour movements have negotiated higher wage regimes for the Nigerian worker and it (labour) has remained a key component in the consideration for how much Nigerians pay on fuel and energy consumption. These are noble ideals that have ensured that Nigerians have more disposable income – an important safeguard for the kick-start of a prosperous economy.
Having been in government at a high level and being a private sector player with thousands of Nigerians on the payroll of my companies mean that I have seen first-hand the needs of workers both in the private and public sectors and the importance of the labour movement. But as I have stated throughout my adult life, true federalism and a proper decentralization of resources and functions away from the government at the center to the governments at the state tier of our governmental structure is key to providing the labour force what they need and deserve. I believe that our federal government will become smarter when it is smaller and more flexible in addressing the needs of our labour force.
But we must have tangible solutions to address the needs of our incredible and talented labour force. Let’s engage our leaders on the following:
1. Minimum wage: It is my firm belief that whoever works should be adequately rewarded. The reward of a service well rendered is a reasonable wage that can keep the earner sensibly motivated to put in his best. The minimum wage of ₦18,000 per month (less than $50), as is currently obtained in the country, considering the current economic reality is not only ill-motivating but embarrassing.
Read more https://independent.ng/n18000-minimum-wage-embarrassing-to-nigerian-workers-atiku/ mr Atiku, right now, our recurrent expenditure is about 70% of our annual budget. Even at that, we borrow to fund part of the budget. Tell us mr Atiku, how you plan to fund this pay rise of about 300% without extra borrowing and putting states like Ekiti in a lockjam |

GodFreyinNORSE: The negotiation for this plane started since the last regime. Unfortunately, the GEJ administration couldn't strike a deal with the erstwhile US regime wjo slammed Nigeria Military with Human Abuse. However, Buhari administration continued on the negotiation and has successfully strike a deal. The deal is not just a plane but comes with support, training and maintenance.
Firstly, the market price of the plane cost $10m. That is just the price of a single unit. We have not added the configurations, the cost of training personnels, spare parts, maintenance, bombs and rockets. From what I heard, this plane is coming with thousands of bombs and rockets, this is coming at a cost.
The warplane is not guguru and epa which you buy and simply eat. Nigeria is not technologically buoyant enough to maintain or fabricate spare parts for planes. We do not have the skills of building our own bombs or rockets. We do not have the the talents that can fly warplane without proper trainings from the manufacturer. These are what added to the cost.
Think about it... You want to buy a phone that worth $100 from Aliexpress, this phone can arrive at $200 when we add more more ram, rom, tscard, screen guide, mouse, touch pen, mode of delivery (dhl, fedex and destination), system upgrade and modification of system. This will add more to the initial cost.
So we all need to throw sentiment away and ask questions. The senate are angry because they do not have pay cuts. And Government is paying directly to US Government for the planes without intermediaries unlike what was obtained in previous government. thanks for this expose educating these lazy dullard yoots. |
Politics › Re: Senator Owie: "Buhari Needs To Be Impeached Now" by Enice(m): 10:37am On Apr 27, 2018 |
exlinkleads: The former Chief Whip of the upper legislative chamber and one of the leaders of Action Democratic Party, ADP, Senator Rowland Owie, has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led executive arm of government of carrying out the attack on Senate where the mace was stolen.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Sun, Owie condemned the invasion of the senate by thugs, alleging that the disgraceful act had the support of security agents. The former lawmaker also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of not promoting democracy with its acts. He called on the National Assembly to start the process of President Buhari’s impeachment immediately for spending over 469 million dollars on helicopter without approval from the National Assembly.
In his words;
“It is a desecration of the order; all those that were involved certainly committed treason. When I was looking at the newspaper, I saw the vehicle that was used.
“I asked one of my sons the name of the vehicle and he said it was ‘Infiniti’, that the car cost almost 80million. That type of vehicle is not owned by a street hawker, it is not owned by a teacher, it must be owned by a top government official. "For thugs to go through the well fortified gates of the National Assembly and then enter into the chamber of the senate where there is electronic check, it means that there was total collaboration with the security agents. From all indications what happened was supported by the executive of this country.
“For them to be able to leave the National Assembly with the mace it is a shame on this nation, it is a shame on the security agencies. It means that all the security agents were aware and they were told to stand down. "Police at the assembly are not less than 100 officers, so I don’t see how thugs could have breached the security if it wasn’t planned. All those involved should be brought to justice.
“If Nigerians don’t wake up it will be a disaster. This APC government headed by Muhammadu Buhari is not people-oriented. It is unfortunate that there are very good people inside it but they are quiet. "And when you are quiet in the face of injustice it means that the individual doesn’t have the fear of God in him. My colleagues in the National Assembly have not lived up to expectation in checking the excesses of the executive.
“The legislature is the most important tool in democracy; the legislature should endeavor to check the executive. There have been a lot of irresponsible actions taken by the executive which the senate has failed to address.” Asked what he specifically would you have loved to see the National Assembly do to the executive, Senator Owie added, “How can the National Assembly which has the authority of confirmation of appointees reject the statutory appointment of an official and then the executive goes behind to retain such person?
“How can the executive neglect the rejection of the legislature? If the Senate was not sparing the rod, the moment the executive went ahead to confirm the appointment they would have removed the allocation meant for the particular office or position, so that if the chairman works and is paid, whoever that paid him would have committed an impeachable offence.
“The executive in this government has looked down on the National Assembly time and time again. How can the president spend over 469 million dollars on helicopter without approval from the National Assembly? The Senate should immediately send Buhari a message and begin impeachment procedure against him.”
More @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2018/04/why-president-buhari-needs-to-be.html?m=1 Mr ex-Senator, legislate well. So government officials now use infiniti jeeps worth N80 million as official cars? Haba! On the $469 million, the money belongs to the three tiers of government (federal, state and local government). The state and local government have given their consent through the Nigerian Governors forum which is the $469million spent so far. Now Mr senator, what where you saying? Or do the NASS have powers over the state house of assembly and local council so as to appropriate their funds? Mr senator, I put it to you that your hatred for Buhari has made you blind. You left APC because you lost out to oshio baba. |

xcolanto: Wike is right! The FG through the military bodies as the army, navi and nsdc are burning illegal refineries and boats that carry crude oil. This causes air pollution in Rivers state as well as the oil spilage into the sea that affects the livelihood of those living in such communities.
The buhari led Federal government is indeed a culprit to reducing the lives of rivers people as they gave the military bodies such orders. There are videos on YouTube that show the military shooting at boats and burning illegal refineries.
Burning these refineries causes the black smoke to go into the air creating the sooth then shooting at boats from choppers cause the oil to spill into the water ways as well as black smoke in the air from the explosion and destruction.
The rivers state government must hereby through it's state assembly make destroying of illegal bunkery an offence and that off the boats as well.
The federal government should convert the illegal refineries to Modula refineries and the boats sized then the crude be handed over to nnpc. they no longer burn illegal refineries |

Politics › Re: Buhari’s Government Epitomises Lies, Deceit – Bishop by Enice(m): 7:43pm On Apr 17, 2018 |
9Ebisco: Right Reverend Livinus Bieronwu Onuagha, the Methodist Bishop of Onitsha Diocese, has said that the government of President Muhammed Buhari epitomised lies and deceit.
Bishop Onuagha stated this in his address during the 16th Annual Diocesan Synod with the theme, “Strive For Peace And Holiness” held at All Saints Methodist Church Ukpor/Oraukwu Street Fegge, Onitsha, at the weekend.
He noted that the nation as currently conceived is a failed state for not being able to provide the necessities of life such as security, health, power, roads and employment to the people.
He flayed President Buhari and his cabinet for not doing enough to address the problems, pointing out that the current government was fast losing the remaining trust of Nigerians.
He stressed that any government that builds its establishment on lies cannot stand.
The Bishop said, “How can a government that is security conscious tell her people that Boko Haram terrorist in the watchful eyes of the military brought back kidnapped girls in convoy and were left to go scot-free.
“Does it not sound absurd? Lai Mohammed, the information minister, thinks we all lack sense of judgment, you arranged and sent away one hundred and ten girls and you brought back one hundred and four, do we lack lawyers in Nigeria to sue these senseless people for whatever and bring these blood thirsty people to book?
“Even if Sgt. Bako did not say anything, it is an open truth on what has transpired. On the other hand, why is this kidnapping only for girls? Why can’t the Boko Haram terrorists go for boys’ school? May God judge the perpetrators of this evil, the gate of hell cannot prevail against the church,” he said.
Speaking on South Sast states, the Methodist Bishop scored Anambra State as most developed in the region, followed by Ebonyi and Enugu, then Abia and slammed Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for not very impressive performances.
He accused Governor Okorocha of behaving like Biblical King Nebuchadnezzar, just as he warned him on the implications of imposition of his son in-law on the people of the state.
On Anambra and Ebonyi, the bishop was full of praises and commendation for Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra and Engineer Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State stating that their performances have impacted positively on the people of the two states.
While noting that their performances have demonstrated that they are a round peg in a round hole, he urged the duo to continue their commitment to better the lot of their state.
He called other governors in the region to strive to perform just as he urged the chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum to seek and explore the possibility of floating a South East Businessmen Forum, and the possibility of reviving the moribund Nkalagu Cement Factory and ANAMMCO, a vehicle manufacturing company owned by the old Anambra State government.
