You need a Skystar 2 PC card; google it.

@ const6

OK try manual scan of Eutelsat W4 36e especially the following transponders:

12207 H 27500
12207 H 26040
12284 H 26480
12322 H 26480
12399 H 26480
12437 H 23438
12476 H 26040

Try those and let's see what happens

@ Enitan

How now? As you know manufacturers make different brands of receiver with different features. Some receivers can only do one encryption (e.g. Conax) only; some can do only two (e.g. Conax & Irdeto); some can do many different encrytion systems e.g. Conax, Irdeto, Seca/Mediaguard, Viaccess). Then some receivers even if they can originally only do one type of encryption become enabled to do many different types after they are patched. So it depends on which category your friend's receiver falls into.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 2:50am On Jan 17, 2008
@ Const6

Most probably the branded HITV decoder will only accept HITV cards and possibly cards of other providers using the same Conax encryption system as HITV (e.g. MyTV); if so, it will not accept DSTV cards which use Irdeto encryption. Any one who wants to buy a receiver is better off looking for one that does multikrypt or at least both Irdeto and Conax (like some Strong receivers) instead of buying the useless receivers supplied by providers like HITV and DSTV.
TV/MoviesRe: Comparing DSTV And HiTV by Enigma(m): 2:43am On Jan 17, 2008
Some receivers (STBs) are "multikrypt" which means that they can cope with more than one encryption system e.g some Strong receivers can do both Conax and Irdeto. A patched Technomate receiver can do most encryption systems.

The biggest problem is with proprietary receivers (i.e. branded by one company e.g. HITV, DSTV etc); because they want you to spend your money with them they give you a useless receiver that can only cope with one encryption system --- their own. That is probably why the poster cannot see DSTV's encrypted stations on his receiver. The ones that can be seen are the FTA channels.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 7:51pm On Jan 12, 2008
Yeah

I can see the logic; DSTV is already on W4; many people have DSTV and so already have dish on W4; so the provider moves to W4 and hope to sell cards or that people can see its FTA offering on W4. (edit: come to think of it, I think even HiTV is on W4).

On the other hand, if a number of FTA stations move to W4, people might get wise eventually and DSTV prices might start to come down ---- but who knows all the variables?

It seems NTA+ Nigeria is now on 68.5E (same sat as MyTV).

12522 H SR:26657 FEC:3/4

Anyone can scan and confirm?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 3:31pm On Jan 10, 2008
Free to Air is not technically Free to Air but Free to See. Someone somewhere is paying to transmit these channels from satellite and it is normally the subscribers in that country that is targeted are paying for it. There is nothing for nothing in this life. Unless the rights are cleared for Nigeria it is illegal to view these channels.
1. The expression "Free to Air" is widely accepted and used internationally for satellite transmissions that are not encrypted. Even manufacturers of receivers stamp FTA on receivers especially those that do not have a card or CAM slot. Yes someone is paying to transmit but they have a business plan (e.g. make money through adverts or phone-ins) or an agenda - e.g. providing news/propaganda or promoting a particular culture or other agenda.

2. It is NOT illegal to watch FTA transmissions in Nigeria no matter where the broadcast is from. As long as you have a dish that can receive the unencrypted signal and a receiver, there is no law stopping you and God forbid that we should live in a totalitarian state that bans reception of FTA TV.

3. Even the issue of reception of encrypted TV without paying, while possibly illegal in some circumstances, is really still a grey area and one that has yet to be tested on the law in Nigeria specifically.
Christianity EtcRe: What Does The Bible Say About The Prosperity Gospel? by Enigma(m): 4:18pm On Dec 30, 2007
The prosperity "gospel" is not the gospel of Christ; the prosperity "gospel" is a sad and shameful perversion of the true gospel. Unfortunately, it is very appealing and thus many people fall for it; meanwhile the motive of many of its chief exponents is to fleece the flock or to promote themselves.

With a 2.4 motorised, what other satellites can you receive? Also are you receiving Ku or C band satellites or both?

yes i am getting the nilesat and foxsoccer channel with single dish which i rotate.
@Gofitech: 3 (or so) questions please:

1. What size is your dish?

2. Where are you located?

3. How do you rotate the dish - manually or are you using a jack/motor?

Thanks.

TBN is for the most part a den of robbers and a lot of the televangelists there are people with a seared conscience who do not fear God and are simply out to fleece as much money as possible from the naive and uninformed or biblically misinformed flock.

That is so cool; hurry up and get a new diseqc switch and you can then configure your system for the three satellites 68.5e, 22w (which you already have) and 27.5w which you should get by adding another LNB to the right hand side (looking from front of dish) of the current 22w LNB --- or you can find out how best by experimenting. See example on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-7715.364.html (post no. 364) and https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-7715.262.html (post no. 262).

Re your post no. 445 on previous page: I think you or the moderator should delete the keys; posting keys makes the forum vulnerable to law suits or other action by Encypted TV providers etc. The Websites that post keys have some forms of protection that they understand e.g. the country in which they or their servers are based etc.

It is fine to refer people to where to get keys (preferably by dead hyperlink; even live hyperlink is not really safe) or discuss keys privately by PM/email/IM etc.

@enitan

Sorry about late replies; busy with 'runs' during my short stay in Nigeria. Are you using a Strong receiver; if so, I believe that the Strong receivers in Naija do Conax (MyTV & HiTV) and Irdeto (DSTV) encryptions. However, I believe that Canalsat uses Seca/Mediaguard and I don't think the Strong receiver does that. So in a 'wrong' way your friend is probably correct.

@Pitodenz

Sorry, I don't know the type of dish; also, I am more knowledgeable about installing dishes up to 1.2 metres; all those 2.4 things, I really don't know. As jujukemist suggested, check that there is no obstruction to line of sight; check elevation angle ---- for elevation angle you can use www.dishpointer.com; type in your location (e.g. Portharcourt, Nigeria) and the satellite i.e. Nilesat, and it will tell you what elevation angle to set the dish; obviously check LNB working well, cabling etc. Also when trying for Nilesat some of the best transponders for signal (in Port Harcourt) are likely to be those on the Middle East beam such as 11766H 27500; 11747V 27500; 10758V 27500; 11804H 27500 etc. Good luck.

Yep; I repeat that a lot of the best academics in Nigeria and internationally do not have a PhD.

It might interest you to note that I myself obtained a PhD in 1997 --- so I'm not writing because of some complex.

edit
Oh, by the way I went to the LSE among others ---- and actually, most of the professors in my field did not have a PhD ---- and they are international experts. Many only have a first degree --- i.e. no masters degree even

It's just amazing sometimes how misinformed people can be!
EducationRe: NUC: Lecturers Must Obtain Doctorate Degree By 2009 by Enigma(m): 8:02pm On Dec 14, 2007
Sometimes Nigeria really makes you despair.

There really is NO need for a stipulation that you should have a PhD in order to work as a university lecturer. What the government really needs to do is to encourage research in the universities by as many lecturers as possible --- this the government should do by paying them reasonably well (the govt has made some progress here though some way still to go); provide facilities - books, journals, ICT, comfortable libraries and offices; provide, and encourage provision by others, of research grants; have a system of assessing and comparing research in different universities - though as far as possible without antagonism; sponsor/encourage productive overseas research trips and exchanges etc.

A lot of the best academics both in Nigeria and abroad do not have PhDs; in fact (I might be wrong) I believe that Professor Wole Soyinka only has a first degree. In Cambridge, Oxford, LSE etc, many professors only have at best a masters --- some only a first degree but they devote their life to research and become world experts ------ without a PhD.

In some areas of study/endeavour, I daresay that a PhD is ultimately a waste of time and especially - if your aim is to make money. The three or more lonely years spent obtaining a PhD might be more usefully spent rising in industry.

Hi; trust you've been fine. Canalsat Horizons used to have an office in Lagos {VI or Ikoyi somewhere); however i can't find the details online again {seen it some time before); if I come up with anything, i'll let you know.

BTW I'm now in Lagos till just after Christmas; i should speak to an installer that I know and maybe one or two other ppl to find out what's happening with satellites in Lagos.

Christianity EtcRe: Paying Tithe To Widows And Orphans by Enigma(m): 10:28am On Dec 05, 2007
The Bible does not require Christians to tithe; people have just been brainwashed into believing a lie - and really need to study the Bible properly to see the truth and be set free.

It is more consistent with the teachings of Jesus, of the apostles and with the Bible more generally to give to widows and other less privileged people than to "pay tithes" into some "church".

Tune your receiver/TV to etv; then press 6969 or 8280 or 8282, then come back and post results; we'll take it from there.

How many channels can you get on 55w?

If your receiver has 'blind scan' you should blind scan the satellite (or use Lyngsat); there is some football on TV Capixaba also on that sat.
