@pitodenz pitodenz:Thanks for this post because it now seems to explain what one guy was saying on another thread. Basically what is happening is this: this Digital Cable Company has a dish aligned to Nilesat; from there they can get the Showtime package; they then redistribute and sell it through some kind of antenna/decoder system. Be warned: do NOT buy such a thing; it will only work if and when the keys of Showtime are known. In fact, I believe that you can already get Nilesat/Showtime as well (apart from no keys for Showtime); so 1. what is the difference between you and the cable company and (2) why pay for something that you have exactly already? |
@Pitodenz The Technomate 5400 costs about between £100-120 so roughly N25,000; I think the Strong is good too though. Also, Showtime is still down --- for most people; not just in Naija. @Enitan The best I can do for now re Canalsat is in this link from 2005; you can try it (since you never know) but I don't expect it to work. I would have tried it first but I don't presently get 22w. _http://www.wardom.org/mediaguard-seca-1-keys-t1429.html?s=f9fc4d1e327e1d0a5f438aaa684107f7& |
If any dealer/s in satellite dishes ever read this thread, I hope they will consider importing a dish like that in the link for the Nigerian market as it is quite relatively cheap. http://www.so-mm.de/product_info.php?products_id=387&language=en |
There is hope that packages like Canalsat might soon be open. The reason is this: the packages that enthusiasts in Europe rely upon e.g. D+, TV Cabo, Premiere are beginning to tighten up (TV Cabo is already totally down and some D+ channels are now gone too --- all gone to Nagra3). What people here are saying is that once all those go; the 'key guys' will turn their attention to other packages possibly including Canalsat etc in the meantime until they are able to open Nagra 3. So, hang in there for a while; I will keep my ears open and if I hear any news about Canalsat being open, I will post the news here. On a different note; are you going to add a 2nd lnb for Trend TV; you can use sello tape to hold it up as pitodenz suggested. |
Enitan Sorry about RDV ![]() There is politics in this FTA v Pay TV malarkey. The Pay TV companies like Sky, Canalsat, DSTV etc want to collect our money; so they put pressure on the FTA stations as far as some programmes are concerned - especially football. They pressurise them to encrypt such things. In fairness, the contracts of the FTA channels tend to have some restrictions --- and this is another reason they encrypt. English Premiership is the biggest challenge for a lot of FTA/Sat enthusiasts world-wide ---- though in some parts, especially Europe, FTA/Sat enthusiasts have been winning for some time now. As for Canalsat on 22w, I have to be honest with you that its keys will be difficult to find ---- simply because the people who source the keys are mostly in Europe and the 22w Canalsat is not priority since most people in Europe don't bother with it or cannot receive that beam of the satellite in the 1st place. I will bet you that once the match is over RDV will be back open fully FTA again. ![]() |
@Enitan Rennes v Lyon totally free today on TV Monde @22w --- from 5.10 PM Nigerian time. ![]() |
@ Fadinus Your question is not clear; what do you mean by DSTV frequency exactly? In any event you can have a look in the link; DSTV=Multichoice http://www.flysat.com/eutelsatw4-sesat.php @pitodenz Actually the better Technomate to buy now is the 5400 which replaces the one I mentioned earlier; I think they may not be in Naija yet; they are readily available in UK if u know someone who can get it here; or you can also search on the Web. @ tushman It seems Showtime is still down. |
How does it work? Satellite? Cable? MMDS? How? |
enitan2002:@ Enitan I'm wondering if what you saw were "Feeds"; i.e. where TV stations use a satellite frequency to send material/programme to their distributors in other places; please keep an eye on those frequencies and report back on them from time to time. In terms of Nigeria the C Band frequencies of Intelsat 907 (27.5w) have interesting Feeds. When you watch NTA News you will sometimes hear the newscaster say "we now go to our Abuja studios"; if you are on Intelsat 907C, you can actually see the newscasters in the Abuja (or wherever) studio as they are still waiting for the handover; sometimes joking with one another, adjusting make-up and that sort of thing --- at least I used to see them last year when I had Intelsat 907C. ![]() |
@ Tinkin_guy The dish is a 90 cm dish (Raven 90). Please note that I only put up the picture as a guide on how to do a multi-LNB set up; at least three of the Sats on there will be difficult if not impossible with a 90 dish in Lagos Having said that, the LNBs in the picture are receiving 7e (the only one possible on a 90cm dish in Lagos), 13e (Hotbird), 16e (Eutelsat W2) and 19e (Astra 1) --- actually, I now have 5 LNBs on the dish as I have now added one more for 1w. In the case of Enitan; he can receive 22w currently; he can put up a 2nd LNB for the neighbouring 27.5w ---- I think somebody here is doing that already. People who can receive the MyTV satellite i.e. 68.5e might also think of putting up a 2nd LNB for 62e or 64e. |
I have put one more tool in the link below; it is a picture (not totally up to date) of roughly how the TV satellites are lined up 'up there'. I believe that the copyright in the original picture belongs to 'What Satellite' magazine. Edited Link removed; I will put another copy up later. |

@Enitan & vickoy ![]() For 2nd LNB u don't need to move the dish at all; just put the 2nd LNB by the side; if you can't get a proper multi-LNB holder, then you'll have to use some inventiveness! Here is an example: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6413/dishlnbs9mc.jpg These links contain pictures of proper multi-LNB holders: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=97856&doy=search http://www.creativesatellite.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d32.html (towards bottom - edited: corrected link ) I'm also going to attach pictures of my own experimentation.

Enitan Congrats; was your installer's name by any chance Michael? Secondly, how did he know/decide which direction to search for NSS7 - since it is different from both DSTV and MyTV positions? Finally, if you like adventure (or wahala?) you/your installer can add 1 more LNB so that you can get Nollywood channel, EWTN and MBI from Intelsat 907 at 27.5w. You will not need to move the dish again; if you stand at the back of the dish the extra LNB will go to the left of the current LNB (i.e. to its right if you are looking from the front) and positioned about 3 inches apart (roughly); you will also need to get a diseqc switch (about 500 naira) from the installer --- to send the signals from the two LNBs through the same current single cable to the receiver. |
Was Direct 8 showing a football match when it encrypted (Portugal v Armenia)? On which sat is best with 90cm: let me think about it. In fact, it is one of the reasons I'm interested to know about your set up; e.g. whether you can add one or two more LNBs. |
@Enitan I don't think there are any current working keys for Canalsat Horizons; if I hear anything I'll post here. France 24 situation: the thing with FTA is that new channels come up every now and then; eventually they will be listed on Lyngsat etc but there might be some gap. One of the best places to find out if there are new channels is: http://en.kingofsat.net/ You check such places and Lyngsat etc every now and then and occasionally you do a scan on your receiver. The other thing, keep checking the Canalsat channels once in a while as they can sometimes be opened by the operators theselves to give people a preview and encourage them to subscribe. On http://en.kingofsat.net/ check the 'Temporarily FTA' section. Finally, you must tell us the story of your installation because that's how we all learn. |
Congrats However you have to tell us the full story about your installation! To your request: I think what you can get now is about all you can get free on NSS7; you can of course also subscribe to Canalsat ---- but I wouldn't recommend it yet until you have done the best you can with FTA first. Anyway the frequencies on NSS 7 can be found at the 2 following links (I think you can only get the stations on the West African beam): http://www.lyngsat.com/nss7.html http://www.flysat.com/nss7.php Once again you must tell us the full story of your installation because that's how we all learn. |
I can also tell you now that for NSS7 in Lagos, the dish elevation should be set to about 59.4; you will see the scale on the side of the dish/brackets. |
One simple trick: look at where people's DSTV dishes are pointing; then for NSS7 22w, turn your dish to about 90 degrees of where DSTV dishes are pointing and start there making very very slow side movements You can compare where to point them by using www.dishpointer.com as I advised earlier. Good luck Edit: first of all use the site to see where 36e (DSTV) should point in Lagos; then change to 22w and see where dish for that should point in Lagos; remember to type in 'Lagos, Nigeria' into location. |
Enitan You should have asked for advice; Ku sats require a systematic approach (unlike C band sats). 1. Determine which sat you want to align to 2. Use your location coordinates (Lagos?) to determine exactly how high to aim the satellite; on the side of the dish is a scale; you set the dish on that scale according to your location and desired sat (This is what they call elevation ) 3. Then you have to work out in what direction to point the dish (i.e. side to side movement which is also called azimuth ) Try again tomorrow be4 your guy comes; use the tool below: type Lagos, Nigeria in location; select the sat you want; set elevation; point dish in direction suggested --- making very very slow side to side movements. http://www.dishpointer.com/ Added Anyway make sure you stay with the guy and learn from him so that next time you will know how to do it yourself. The other thing ask him about how he sets the receiver because that also matters a little bit. |
@ Pitodenz hope u can patched a receiver with already patched receiver.I've just read this question again and realise now that I misunderstood it first time around. Yes you can use an already patched receiver to patch another one; both have to be of the same brand (or at least accept same firmware) and allow for receiver to receiver transfer,. In the menu look for something like "Data Transfer" or "STB Transfer" etc. I must say that I've never actually done it myself --- as I generally load software directly to each receiver. |
Hi again Just saw your question; a patch is the main operating system (also called firmware) but an unofficial one which allows the receiver to accept codes that allow you to open some encrypted channels. Sometimes the patch is so powerful that it auto-rolls or auto-updates (AU); i.e. as the TV stations change the code, the receiver automatically updates itself with the right codes. Most of the time, after loading the patch it is necessary to manually update the keys by the remote; or to use a software to load the keys to the receiver. The software that has the keys which allows you to update keys via computer instead of manually with remote ---- that is the softcam. |
Pitodenz Yep, a once patched receiver can be patched again if there is new software. With the Technomate 1000 series receivers, new software/patch is quite frequently released and many people 're-patch'. E.g, I have patched/repatched my Technomate at least 3 or so times this year ------ yet there is even a latest patch that I have not loaded yet. Apart from 'patching' proper, some people use a softcam (software with keys) everyday to load the latest keys. This is probably the best way --- if the receiver is one that is well supported by those writing software. What's up --- you want to load new software? Can you identify the date and name of the software currently on your receiver? Then compare it with the one you want to load. |
Thanks tushman So maybe the 1000 naira refers to Internet connection? AFAIK, it is free to download patches etc from those sites esp RDI. BTW, I don't think you are doing the patching wrong --- what is happening is that Showtime is currently 'down' on most receivers. Maybe in a day or two the keys will be known and new softcam/patch released. |
@ Osazeet Your satellite is pointing at 68.5e (Intelsat 7/10) First of all try scanning that satellite to see if any other new channels come up. In particular, scan the channels on the frequencies with Africa/Europe beam i.e. towards the bottom of the list in the following link: http://www.lyngsat.com/intel68.html If you do it correctly, the channels that have F (i.e. Free) in front of them should come up -- including CNBC and SABC. Also, you may be able to get eTV; for that follow the procedures described in pages 4 & 5 of this very thread. @ jujukemist I don't recall or think that we ever had any quarrel! |
Tushman I am very curious, where do you go and pay to download patch or softcam? Please post the info so that we may know. Anyway patches, softcam and keys are free all over the Internet. In your case, you should even be able to enter the keys manually with your remote since your receiver is obviously patched already. You can get some keys on the RDI site posted by Enitan though when I had a quick look, I couldn't see Irdeto keys which is what you need for Nilesat. For Irdeto/Showtime keys and materials for Strong receivers, try the following link: http://www.sat-television.com/forum/index.php I think you will have to register to have full access; I think also that Showtime is currently down anyway and people are waiting for new keys. |
Very good post Ricadelide (penultimate post of page 1). In particular the definition of terms re "rich". Obviously, Jesus was not rich in that material context as is evidently clear from a proper reading of the Bible. Unfortunately, prosperity preachers have twisted the Bible so badly and worse still many well intentioned Christians buy into the false teachings. Arguments like: the donkey that Jesus rode was "expensive" being equivalent to expensive cars today; He wore a unique robe being equal to designer clothes today; the gifts He was given by the Magi are worth thousands/millions in today's money etc etc are all ruses by prosperity preachers ultimately to deceive their followers while fleecing them through the false so-called "prosperity gospel". If a Christian is rich, that is fine and good, so was Philemon; if a Christian is poor, he has hope in Christ greater than any earthly riches - Onesimus was a Christian yet a slave of the also Christian Philemon. |
@ Enitan What is "patched" is the receiver; it simply means loading different software on the receiver from the one that came with it originally (usually the later software will enable you to watch more channels than the original). It can be done by anyone; over here many people patch their own receivers themselves though you can pay someone to do it. How it works: you have to download two different software; the first is the "Loader" which you will use to load the main software to the receiver; the second is the latest "patch" software itself. Then you need the right cable with which to connect your computer to the receiver. When the time comes for you to patch a receiver, come back and we'll talk you through it. @ Butoneday You need to give more information: in which part of the country are you; what type and size of dish do you want to use; and what other satellite apart from Nilesat are you planning to receive. This info is necessary to be able to advise further. |
@ 3ple Like Nigeria, Cameroun is not ordinarily within the footprint of Nilesat; this means you will need a big dish to have any chance! |
@ pitodenz I don't use Strong myself but I have done a quick online check and it seems that with latest software Showtime will be available on the 4653X. See the links below ---- but be sure you know how to load the software to your receiver so as not to damage it. _http://np-ulc.net/index.php?PHPSESSID=d69e4f9210754763783a6642fef42288&direction=0&order=mod&directory=Receiver/Strong _http://kwandi4ume.mylivepage.com/home @ Pitodenz -- an 8m dish is obviously massive and I can imagine that it might pull in Hotbird; however, Hotbird only has about 2000 channels; so maybe ur friend was tracking other satellites as well. @ jofranco If you get e.g. a 2.4 (or at least a 1.8 ) dish and ask the installer to use a 'jack' with it, you will have some options; also if possible, ask the installer to use 1 Ku LNB and 1 C LNB --- that way your options will increase considerably. (It could be better to use one dual band LNB but they seem difficult to find). If you cannot use a 'jack' an alternative is to use 2 or more Ku LNBs as jujukemist suggested. |
Horpy The following links show the various satellites up there; you have to check the footprint to see if a particular satellite can be received on your system. Since you are using a jack, you have to tell your receiver to go to a particular satellite; if you get signal (especially 'quality') try scanning some transponders from the list for the particular satellites. http://www.flysat.com/satlist.php Check the satellites that are possible; for starters, try Nilesat @ 7w, NSS7 @22w, Intel 907 @ 27.5w, Hispasat @ 30w, Eutelsat W3A at 7e, W4 @ 36e and Intel 7/10 at 68.5e. http://www.lyngsat.com/ Under 'Frequencies', click Europe for eastern satellites and 'Atlantic' for western satellites. Again, please post back with your results so that all of us can learn. ![]() |
Edited @ Enitan It is possible for 2 or more LNBs to be on one dish --- each LNB pointing at a different satellite. The crucial element is that the satellites are near enough to one another. It is called a Multi-LNB set up. The totally best dish for a multi-LNB set up is the Toroidal Wave-frontier T90 dish which can take 16 LNBs pointing at 16 different satellites. Another good dish for a Multi-LNB set up is the Raven 90 dish; I have one of these and on it I have 5 LNBs pointing at 5 different satellites; because it is on the ground, I can even move an LNB around to get other satellites. But this is in the UK where more satellites can be readily received! One more good dish for a Multi-LNB set-up is the Triax TD88 dish. If you can't get hold of any of these dishes in Nigeria, you might be able to adapt the DSTV/HiTV/MyTV dish for a Multi-LNb set-up with some small 'engineering'. ![]() |
