Hi ltechniger LNB 'skew' means how you twist the LNB. Remember that the LNB is the bit/thing in front pointing at the dish; it is what takes the signals from the dish and sends them through the cable to the receiver. Because the satellites are lined up in an arc, for the LNB to fully and accurately receive the signal from a particular satellite, it should sometimes be twisted/turned to an angle similar to that of the satellite in the arc. Sometimes the signal of a satellite is so strong that LNB skew is not important; at other times the signal is weak which means LNB skew may be crucial. Generally if the satellite is in the east the LNB will be twisted/skewed clockwise; if satellite is in the west, the skew will be anti-clockwise. Sometimes we use the face of the clock to describe the twist; e.g. some 36e LNBs in Nigeria are twisted to something looking like 3 o'clock. Also, see the pictures in the link below for examples: http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=lnb+skew&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi |
When trying to track Eutelsat W3A 7e, the correct elevation is crucial i.e. how the dish face upwards. If you are lucky the dish should have a scale (i.e. elevation markings) at the back. If so roughly the elevation angles for some parts of Nigeria are roughly: Lagos - 81 Port Harcourt - 84 Sokoto - 74 Remember, these are not absolute figures and one might need to adjust the dish elevation around these numbers. Also, anyone can check the dish elevation (and azimuth) for their location by typing their location roughly (e.g. ikeja, Nigeria) into, and selecting the satellite they are after in the dropdown menu of, www.dishpointer.com |
Hi Senga I'm sorry to say you are confusing two different issues and thus you are, sadly, mistaken. Of course GTV has no rights to transmit in Nigeria: in the same way Sky has no right to transmit in Europe but is being received in several European countries; two weeks ago I set up two Sky systems for people in Belgium; what is more, although Sky officially pretends not to sell cards outside the UK, everyone knows that its cards are widely being used in Spain and several other European countries. Now --- it is not illegal to watch Sky in those countries or even to use Sky cards in those countries. The only real legal issue in that respect is that Sky can claim breach of contract on the part of anyone who buys a card from Sky because they will argue that the card is issued on condition that it is to be used in the UK. If you buy a 2nd hand Sky receiver and use it in Belgium or elsewhere to receive Sky (and have no contract with Sky) ---- you are not breaking any law and you are not doing anything illegal. Indeed, if you acquire a Sky card second hand and you are using it outside the UK without any contract with Sky --- you are not breaking any law; the only risk is that Sky can disable the card --- because they claim that they remain the owner of the card. In the UK, apart from Sky, I watch Premiere from Germany, DigiTV from Eastern Europe, TPS etc from France, SRG from Switzerland etc ---- Tell me the law that I've broken If I go to Ghana and buy GTV receiver/card and bring it to Lagos to watch GTV---- - Tell me the law that I have broken! First, tell us what law is being broken: statute and section or judicial decision! |
senga:And it is perfectly legal in my opinion ------ (at worst might be a claim of breach of contract with GTV) |
It is biblically ignorant to link payment or non-payment of "tithes" to salvation - utterly pathetic. |
olrotimi:Honestly, if you know the Bible well, you won't believe these kinds of things; more importantly, you won't be ruled by fear: "God has not given us a spirit of fear , " |
@enitan I think you should go easy on bodejohn; I don't think he was trying to mislead; it is very possible that TV Malawi did come up on NSS7; it could have been a 'feed' or a temporary spillover of the footprint or something. @bodejohn, what to do is give the frequency, polarity, symbol rate and any further info of any station that you receive and the date and time. @both and @ all; let's end any negativity; remember this is a shared hobby and we should be cooperative. ![]() |
@Salam Pitodenz is your man; he is also based in PH. |
All the above shows is the foolishness of "tithing" and the legalism that it brings back when Christ had done away with legalism. Food for thought: 1. Did Jesus ever tithe? Probably did not tithe because there was no need; He was a carpenter; carpenters were not required to tithe. Only if he had been a farmer or herdsman was he required to tithe. 2. In the old testament if you were a herdsman who had 9 cattle, were you required to tithe? Answer NO -- because it was specifically the tenth cattle that was supposed to be tithed. Read your Bible and understand it rather than relying on paganistic superstition masquerading as a "christian doctrine of tithing"! |
@bodejohn Yes I know the "dish mover" well; I actually have one. I saw your question much earlier on whether you can get it in Nigeria: I'm not really sure because the Naija installers use a 'jack' for the bigger dishes. If you want more info about the "dish mover", the correct titles are: 'Diseqc Motor' or 'Horizon to Horizon Motor' or 'H to H motor' or 'USALS motor' -- if you google any of that you will get info. It doesn't look like I will visit Naija for Easter else I might have said we can come to arrangement for me to buy one and bring down for you. The better models include the Technomate 2200, the Moteck SG 2100, Dark Motor, Geotrack Motor etc. |
Some FTA Stations not difficult to receive in Nigeria Note: 1. Things change frequently in FTA TV and this info will not always be totally correct 2. The info below is very selective; there are other stations not mentioned mostly because they might be more difficult to get e.g. if a big dish is needed (thus FTA stations on satellites like Nilesat, Hispasat etc are not included) 3. The list only mentions FTA stations on the Ku Band (no C Band Stations included) 4. Consult places like www.lyngsat.com, www.flysat.com and www.kingofsat.net for more info. A. NSS7 at 22W 1. Hi again As for elevation, you are right that it is written on most dishes. If you look carefully at where the dish is joined by the mounting clamp at the back you should see figures from 0 to maybe 100 or so. Thus if the elevation for a particular satellite at your location is 60, then you adjust the setting at the back of the dish till it is pointed at 60. Please note that setting the elevation thus should get you close to the satellite but is not always 100%; therefore you may need to adjust it a little around the given elevation figure of e.g. 60. Azimuth is trickier - because strictly speaking you need a compass to work it out or a protractor from 'Maths sets'! To be honest, I don't generally ask people to look for or work out or use azimuth. The reason is this: what you need to know principally is the general direction where the satellite is and where your dish should face. If the satellite is at the eastern position, you know that roughly your dish should be facing the position where the sun rises or if western, roughly where the sun sets. If you have the elevation correct, and you are willing to be patient to move your dish very very very slowly, you will hit the right azimuth once searching in the right area roughly. Say you are trying to get DSTV/HITV --- both of these are at 36e; say you are in Ikeja; www.dishpointer.com will tell you that for 36e and in Ikeja, the elevation is 51.3 and azimuth is 100.2/103.6. The most important thing is to set the elevation on your dish; then look at where DSTV dishes in your area are pointing; then point your dish in that direction and start turning it very very very slowly either in the left direction or right direction till you get a signal. Note: it will be very helpful if you have a small TV nearby connected to your dish and your receiver: then on your receiver you select a strong transponder (frequency) e.g. you select one of the Trend TV transponder/frequency which is 11747 H (Horizontal) SR (symbol rate) 27500. |
Gangsta Ok and very good; the Strong receiver is laid out similar to the Technomate that I'm using so it should be easy to walk you through it. The first thing you should do is use the cursor to keep moving right from No 1 (where it starts) through the numbers until you get to a slot that says 'CAS - Irdeto'. In fact, I see from one of your pictures that slot no 2 says Irdeto/Betacrypt, that also can be used for Showtime (if it becomes necessary); but the first thing is to see whether any of the Irdeto slots already has ident 0604 --- if you find one like that, that is the one to use for Showtime. If you don't find any Showtime specific slot, you can (a) use any existing free/unused slot for Showtime by selecting CAS Irdeto and entering 0604 for Ident and when keys become available you enter the keys; or (b) convert any of the other Irdeto slots to Showtime by entering 0604 for Ident; or (c) convert any other slot e.g. by using cursor to change CAS from say Seca to Irdeto, enter Showtime's ident and keys when those become available. PS Note that by moving the cursor around on any of the slot you can change or tailor the information on that slot: e.g. slot 1 that has 'CAS - Seca' can be changed to 'CAS - Irdeto' etc by using the cursor (i.e. up/down/left/right keys). In the meantime are you using keys for any channels at all at present, e.g. eTV? |
@Novice1 and All I have just found a very useful website that contains explanations of various terms: http://www.tech-faq.com/symbol-rate.shtml Look on the right of the page and scroll down for a list of terms explained. However, let me say that even without knowing all of these things in any detail you can still install a dish and master your receiver --- though the more you know the easier things will be. |
@Enitan & Pitodenz How now? Nice to read from you. @Enitan Someone (I think const6) said that HiTV receivers can also accept Irdeto (DSTV) cards; either they are Conax and Irdeto embedded or multikrypt; I hope someone who has one can let us know. If you can, couls you say roughly how much cards/subscription cost(s) for Canalsat on NSS 7? @Novice1 Read this link for general info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_television And also do general googling as Enitan suggested; after that we can try and clarify things that remain unclear as far as is known/possible. |
OK Gangsta Cool that you get Nilesat. First, I don't think there are any currently working keys for Art/Showtime. For when keys become available and how to enter them into your receiver, I will like you to do something: please take a picture (maybe with your mobile phone) of the display on your TV screen of the Keys menu page (after pressing 8282) of your receiver. The reason is that I do not remember the menu system of the Strong receiver offhead and I do not have one at present. On the other hand some general info: 1.The columns usually relate to a Provider (e.g. DSTV, MyTV, HiTV, Showtime, ART) 2. As you know, each provider has several channels 3. The Key for a Provider goes on one or two lines (most of the time and rarely more than that) 4. That means your receiver probably allows for keys of up to 200 Providers 5. Keys can be entered in two formats: Dec format will be something like this - Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep; the same key may be in Hex format e.g. xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx; Mathematicians will tell you that those two keys are identical apart from the format i.e. dec or hex (Edited and modified) 6. You then have to work out which format your receiver allows, hex or dec; which determines the format in which you must obtain the keys. 7. For the particular provider, you must know the Provider's ID which you enter in the same slot as the keys to let your receiver associate the keys with the provider; e.g. Showtime's ID in many receivers is 0604. Have a look at the keys menu again in light of this info and see if it makes better sense. |

everytime i check on the net, i see keys for unlocking certain satellite tv systems e.g. art, showtime, e.t.c. but how in God's name are they inputted into the decoder to get them to work. yes i know u type in t8282 0r 8280 to bring out the different menus but how does one progress from there? because there are several vertical columns numbered 1 to 200 and then the horizontal columns for you to put in the codes. i guess what i'm asking for is a detailed step by step guide on how to input keys into a strong decoder. your help will be most appreciated.1. For a start, I don't think you can get Nilesat which is the satellite on which you find Showtime and ART (or otherwise Badr 26e or even Hotbird); so keys for the Showtime or ART packages are of no use to you. 2. The one station in Naija for which most people can use a key is eTV on 68e (same satellite as MyTV) 3. How to insert keys will depend on your particular receiver; but you need to know some basics as explained below. (a) TV providers who encrypt use different encryption systems e.g. Nagravision, Conax, Viacess etc (b) Some of these encryptions get compromised and 'keys' become available for some providers (c) For a particular provider that is compromised you need to know the encryption system e.g. eTV uses Nagravision; you then need to know the Provider's ID (a kind of identifying code) e.g. 2011 or 2111 for eTV; you then have to know the particular 'active' key. (d) You then enter the keys into your receiver; however, first of all your receiver must be 'patched', which means it must have the right kind of software; (official software is normally useless for this purpose). (e) You enter the key into the correct space for the particular provider (using its correct ID), in the right encryption section (e.g. Nagravision), and in the right format i.e. 'hex' or 'dec' (in rows of 2 characters or rows of 3 characters). From here, to be able to help you further, you need to state what satellite(s) you can currently receive and what provider/channels you want to watch. |
Those keys do not open any channel. You will rarely need a master code for a receiver; indeed you will only need a master code if you do not know the regular code or if something has gone wrong with your receiver. Most people never have or need to use their receiver's master code. |
Tithing is NOT an obligation for Christians. Also, a Christian is blessed simply for being a Christian and this is not dependent on whether he "tithes" or not. Tithing as an obligation has passed away and is not truly part of Christian doctrine except that mainly Old Testament scriptures touching on tithing in the pre-Christian era have been misinterpreted and misapplied with the consequent result of mentally enslaving many well-intended Christians. Search your Bible carefully, if tithing was that important, why did Jesus Christ Himself not stress and emphasise it? Compare the passing reference that he made to it when rebuking Pharisees to how tithing is stressed, stressed and stressed again today. Also ask yourself: how many times did Peter, Paul, James or any of the other apostles preach tithing in the Bible --- zero, nil, zilch, nada! James even went as far as saying true religion is to look after widows, orphans etc; this accords with what Jesus taught: 'as long as you do it for the least of these you do it for me'; it also accords with several passages of the Old Testament directing that "tithes" should be shared with widows, orphans and aliens. Instead of "paying tithes" to any church or pastor, you are more blessed in line with Jesus' teaching to share the money with the poor and less privileged. Don't be enslaved by superstition in the form of "if I don't tithe, I won't be blessed" because it is a big big lie. |
guruofsat:Those whose receivers have already been patched (as many are in Nigeria) are NOT advised to download official Strong software into their receivers. In that respect only the 'Software Uploader' may be useful to upload keys or later patches/software. |
@F_Marshall Welcome, always good to have another knowledgeable person on board. @Urfriend Your question has been answered before: however, you can at least try the simple thing of going to www.dishpointer.com and type in the info as recommended in post no 624 above; it will even show you which direction roughly to point your dish; crucially what scale on the dish to set the elevation to! |
Use the link to work out where dish for 7e should face: www.dishpointer.com Type in ur location and the satellite you want then click "Go" |
@Novice1 Hotbird is more or less impossible for most people in Nigeria. |
Try: www.dishpointer.com type in your location and the satellite position you want e.g. 36e and find out how your dish should be raised (elevation) and in which direction it should be pointed (azimuth) and then patiently try for it; also remember to select 36e in your receiver. Come back to let us know how it goes or if you need further help. |
Answered on one of the other threads where same question asked: First things first: what is the brand name and model of your receiver and who is the manufacturer. As it seems to be a HITV branded receiver, there is the risk that it is limited in the functions it can perform and may even be limited in terms of the kinds of software that can be loaded into it. |
First things first: what is the brand name and model of your receiver and who is the manufacturer. As it seems to be a HITV branded receiver, there is the risk that it is limited in the functions it can perform and may even be limited in terms of the kinds of software that can be loaded into it. Second: put your DSTV card in and come back to report so that we can know if at all your receiver can do Irdeto encryption (used by DSTV) at all. Third, it is possible to use some receivers to accommodate two cards at once; but the receiver must usually already have been built for that purpose from the factory. The possibilities are: (1) the receiver has two CI (Common Interface) slots; then you can insert two CAMs each of which can take a card; or (2) the receiver has one card slot into which one card goes and one CI slot into which a CAM + the second card will go; or possibly, the receiver has two card slots (this is rare AFAIK). Those are really the main ways by which you can use two cards in one receiver. |
@ tosino You need two different things: first a Quad LNB that can feed up to four receivers; see example in link http://www.wizardsatellite.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_80&products_id=568&zenid=94e262695c5248d08e296ef2d7675e72 Second, you then need what I described earlier which allows you to 'split' one subscription card over different receivers. Example in link: http://glosat.com/indexen.htm @sx_knx Familiarise your self with the link/site below and it should tell you what channels are FTA and viewable in Nigeria. http://www.flysat.com/eutelsatw4-sesat.php |
Edit: there is a device that allows you to use one card on two different TVs at the same time; don't know if that's what you mean? |
@odaboy Yes, you can only receive channels from the satellite (or satellites if you use multi LNB or a motor) that your dish is pointing at and can receive enough signals from. @ BUTONEDAY Eurobird 1 which is at 28.5e will require a very very very massive dish --- so I doubt if any private person/hobbyist as such can receive it; maybe telcom/television companies or university/research institutions. |
@ const6 You probably need another dish as the distance is simply too much for most 90cm dishes i.e. 36e and 68.5e. It probably can be done on some 90cm dishes e.g. will probably not be that difficult on a Toroidal Wavefrontier 90 but that dish is not in Naija, I don't think; may also be possible on the Raven 90 though more difficult because of the 32 degree spread. Conclusion: a second dish with a diseqc switch! |
Type your location and dish details into www.dishpointer.com and it should tell you what satellites you can receive without too much difficulty. Also try asking at this link http://www.rdi-board.com/showthread.php?t=36090 as there are people there expert/knowledgeable on satellites receivable in Eastern and Southern Africa. |
