nitrogen: Oleball continues to put a lot of pressure on our DMs and defenders. See evidences below:
Clearances: Utd have 356 clearances already this season, among the top 6 clubs, only Tottenham is higher at 414 (of course we know why). City is the lowest at 230, Liverpool - 260.
Tackles: United have 325 tackles already, others have less (City the best with 252 and Liverpool - 254, Tottenham - 310 )
Saves: United - 52, City - 33, Liverpool - 46, Tottenham - 64
Blocks: United - 70, City - 40, Liverpool - 25, Tottenham- 78
Interceptions: Utd - 230, City - 166, Liverpool - 183.
I intentionally included Tottenham so you can see how football styles and systems invite pressure on your defence and make your defenders very inefficient.
OGS needs a style that makes sense. Out attackers are top 3 in the league in terms of efficiency (City is not even in top 5), and our defenders and keeper continue to work hard, but still concede many goals. We are very good in every department (e.g. through balls from our midfielders are 18, City - 19, Liverpool - 20, I already posted chances created by select teams).
OGS is the problem! Thank you jare. The system invites more pressure on the defenders and we turn around to castigate these same defenders comparing them with those that have to do lesser work |

patrickmuf: Just checked the GF and GA stay and from what I see, we and City are tied on 37 goals for but the difference is that they have conceded 13 whilst we have conceded 27 having played one more game...That's a negative of 14 goals compared to City but no, you'll think Manchester City forwards are doing so well when in all honesty, our forwards have been better...
This is not me saying I'm impressed with our strikers but compared to City, we have the better forwards on current form... That GF and GA is as a result of the defense, midfield and attack cohesion. That they have conceded much lesser goals is not as a result of their defenders doing much work than ours. The stats don't agree with that |

COVID 19 but Aston Villa(from the championship) outspent United in the summer. I’m wondering whether there was no pandemic in Birmingham.
You guys are believing the lies coming out of the Glazers and Woodward - they keep sharing dividends every year while lying to us that there is a pandemic that is stopping them from buying players. Our wage structure drains the club finances |

patrickmuf: We concede too many comical goals that have nothing to do with pressing even though I admit we need to drastically improve our collective press as a team...
The errors at the back points to the fact that no matter how well we press, once the press is beaten, we are in trouble...
Your argument is that if we pressed better, we will limit the opposition but what we saw on Wednesday was a scenario where we dominated the play but lapses in the odd moment cost us...Now, unless you are saying with a complimentary press we won't concede chances, I don't get you...
Liverpool and Manchester City who have both mastered the act of pressing still concede chances however, their defence especially in the case of City always rise to the occasion to close the loose ends. If you are a defender in that team, you will lose guard too when you are dragged to places you shouldn't be because people fail to put pressure up the pitch or even track their men. Aside the set pieces, we have seen our defenders in places they shouldn't be because they get dragged around |

patrickmuf: Same pressure? How many times did Sheffield have a sniff at our goal? So the defenders didn't allow Sheffield to have that many sniff or it was that Sheffield just didn't have that many sniff? patrickmuf: I implore you to watch Man City vs Sheffield tomorrow. I am certain Sheffield will have their moments but the difference will be that City's defence will most likely sniff out the danger before it becomes obvious. We dominated Sheffield yet they made the most of their chances...Title winning teams have defence that hold their own when the forwards are off...... Take time to also watch their midfield and attack and see how they do their best not to give away ball in dangerous areas and close down the channels quickly |

patrickmuf: What is your argument?
Are you saying that if we press as a unit the opponents won't have a sight at our goal? Or that our defenders won't be faced with moments when they have to tidy up things?
No matter how well we press, if Maguire and Lindelof don't understand that as a center back, positioning is everything especially when you lack pace, we would have achieved next to nothing... My point is that the defenders will look much better than they currently are if the team's play and coordination is better. Maguire has one of the highest interceptions in the league. The stats shows that he's doing much better than you think but when the pressure is more than others, he looks bad. I will agree with you if others have to face same pressure with a midfield all over the place and an attack that is always in a hurry to lose the ball |

Panther7: Maybe maybe not but how often do you see Stones make a mistake this season compared to Maguire? LOL the same Stones people murder online everyday in the past couple of seasons under Pep? We will do this comparison when our defenders have lesser pressure because the team is coordinated with and without the ball |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 11:01am On Jan 29, 2021 |
Panther7: I think Patrick already answered that question already. It has more to do with coordination and organisation of the defence and team's play especially when we press, teams like City and Pool have good organisation and well defined style of play that when you remove one player from City's team another player comes in and does the job perfectly like the other player never left. So it's less about the players themselves and more of the highlighted? So it's not that the players are bad or lack the quality? So it's not like the defenders are doing lesser than other top defenders in the league? |

patrickmuf: I have always been vocal about the lack of coordination in our pressing game which affects the way we defend. When our attack press, our midfield will just sit behind behind and watch them and where our midfield pushes up to join the press, the defence maintains a low block which they shouldn't...It's only in a few games that we have gotten it right and most times it's when Bailly starts...
Having said the above, you can't discount the roles of the defenders themselves as no matter how coordinated your press is, the opposition will definitely get past it 2-3 times per game and that's where the coordination of those at the back comes to play. I'm sure you will agree that Man City and Liverpool have the best pressing game however, prior to the signing of Dias and resurgence of Stones, City were conceding at a rate unbecoming of a title contender thus they had to plug that gap by signing a top CB...
In Manchester United's case, most of the goals we have conceded have more to do with school boy errors from our defenders and goal keepers...With such errors, no matter how coordinated your press, you are bound to suffer once the press is bypassed thus our defenders (especially our CBS) have to improve else we will keep conceding at the same rate... Those top defenders lfc and City signed will go on injury and the team still won't be drinking goals like that. Our defenders have more defensive work to do than other defenders in top clubs. Check out defensive stats on the epl website, you will see that City and LFC defenders are almost never featured in the top 20 for each defensive stat. |

Leyqute: Being realistic doesn’t stop you from planning well, improving your squad and winning trophies. Liverpool were realistic that they were not the champions that they were 30 years ago.
That’s why they took stock of their situation, planned well, and executed their plans and then backed their managers as much as they can .
The result is what they have today. With the squad we have and the investments we've made, we're not punching above our weights because all we've done is beat the less privileged teams |

It's not even the loss that's the issue, it's the manner of play. It's either they're trying to force one silly 1 2 or rushing the pass. Even against Sheffield that is going to sit back. If this is how they prepare for all matches, we're in trouble |
