The road of arresting and prosecuting reduces by cancelling the contract. Yes the government might have money to pursue this project but it is not Hon. Amaechi's money.

Unless we want him to go through a rigorous process of lobbying and convincing the Federal Government to do the project.

Even if the government agrees to do the project, it will come in phases.

The first phase will still be terminating the contract and pursuing getting the money back.

The second phase will be replanning and awarding the contract to a reputable construction firm.

No matter the steps, it still falls down to cancelling the contract and restarting which is what Hon. Amaechi proposed in the video.

Kachikwu disagreed that the project should go on.

How will the project go on? Is he saying the same contractors should continue?
Even if I say new contractors and all will be brought in you still won't be satisfied. So we can just end the back and forth here. But one thing is certain we can't throw away the child with the bath. Amaechi should just do what he likes as long as he remembers that the ordinary people are supreme.

The true analogy is, if you give someone money to go to the market and buy food. If the person squanders it, and that is the only money for food, will you let the person go free.

There is no other appropriated money for the University. The way to build it is by getting the money back from the fraudulent contractors.
Am not sure anybody said anything about the fraudsters going scot-free. Or was that what Kachukwu was implying? And please don't ever say that's the only money because it's not. Even if it's not budgeted for what's wrong in promising the people that it will be done next year? Is it the work of the citizens to ask those fraudsters to return the money? The federal government is supposed to make arrests and prosecute the criminals and if they can't it's a failure on their part and not the ordinary citizens.

Yeah would have made more sense if the retrieval of money can be done as soon as possible.
But someone made an illustration. He said if you give someone money to buy food for your family and the person embezzles it, will you wait until you retrieve that money before buying food or you will get another money for it while you try to retrieve the embezzled one.

The right thing to do is to take responsibility and fix everything wrong with our country and I believe that is what the government is trying to do or I think. You on the other hand can continue to sit in a corner and cry about the misrule of the past 60 years.
If you expect business owners not to react in ways that will favor them then you don't know a thing about business. People are in business to make profit not for charity organization. Those we elected in are our political officers and they are the ones we can hold responsible.
If militants or boko haram or Fulani herdsmen are having a field day i can't blame them. I instead blame those that are being paid with our taxes to stop them from operating.

People need to wake up and realize that from ages past, changes in technology always make companies reduce workforce. It is every where in the world and Nigeria is no exception. The sad story is that our graduates didn't go to school to learn to be self-sufficient and be creative in becoming an independent solution provider after graduation. They only went in for the certificate; hoping that one man, who took all the risk to setup his business, will keep providing them monthly income without finding other means to make his business more effective & without having to incur more cost of running.

Skill acquisition will save a lot of our graduates. Sadly a lot are lazy and are not ready to be self sufficient.
OK I will list out many factors affecting graduates that wants to be self sufficient but are not able to be
1. High cost of rent
2. High cost of electricity/darkness
3. High tax rate with nothing in return from the government
4. High cost of materials/resources

Now if there was a loan or grant to work with many may survive but people are expected to start from the scratch in an economy that even those that have plenty are complaining. Some companies are closing down on a monthly basis or reducing their staff strength so as to continue to be in business. We just shout entrepreneur but we don't really know what it takes. All these challenges are not fault of this government but they need to take responsibility and work towards making things better.
A graduate that came upon some funds and have plans of opening a mega unisex saloon in my area can't because we have not seen light in almost 3 years. In my house alone we spend almost 300k for fuel yearly so as to get light in our house and the generator works for just 5-7 hours per day. Now imagine what such graduate will spend to run his business on light alone in a year especially now that fuel has increased.
Where I worked before I resigned we are supposed to pay almost 90k for electricity monthly as a result of the increase in electricity tariff but there was hardly light. We see NEPA light only towards the end of the month when they go around cutting wires. And we also spend nothing less than 30-40k for fuel. If you are involved in the running of a business or accounting department of a business you will understand what am saying.

This is actually a very welcomed development.

The banks and CBN can start a mobile money campaign and other alternative money settlement platforms like online Paypal and the likes. All this will help push our cashless policy a bit further.

My problem and fear is how the "to-be-sacked staffs" can be absorbed into the society without loosing their source of income. Nigeria for what we are known for, we never have a succession plan to cater for the fallout of such things. For example, the "to-be-sacked staffs" can be the first starters of such initiatives. also their should be a period for experimenting for easy transition instead of the sudden change.

I will also advocate for the cutting down of our currency denominations like the N1000, N500 and N200 note. serious economies dont use such. the highest euro note you can find i think is 100euro the higher for Dollar is $100 the highest Pounds sterling is 50pounds. So what are we doing with N1000, N500 and N200 notes that encourage armed rubbery, corruption using cash, money rituals. Imagine if the maximum we have is N100 will the likes of Saraki be able to keep N300million in his house?
You still didn't address what will be done with the sacked workers. Maybe there should be a program where they are taught on how to survive on the #23000 allowance as teachers? I think that would be better.

Over the counter withdrawals.
They want customers to use the atm and e channels to reduce the population of customers that come into the bank to withdraw money.
This is the is really good and safer for everyone.
Why do people even hold so much Cash when you can transfer with ease
It's good and safer but the aim here is to reduce number of staff. With this more people will loose their jobs.

If you do not understand, the banks are indirectly saying 'there is no money' because people are withdrawing cash from their accounts in order to buy dollars from the black markets . Now, banks have no dollars to sell and they have no cash to give you.

This present administration was evidently unlucky to come into power when the prices of crude globally have begun to decline drastically. Nigeria as a nation has placed her entire confidence and focus on the oil sector which is now really affecting the economy, making it difficult for the country to maintain a stable economy. We can’t blame this administration for the fall of oil prices, but surely, we could blame the entire government that has ever ruled this nation for not investing enough and assisting vehemently other income earning sectors in the nation. This fall of oil prices has really shaken the nation, the dollar exchange rate to naira is devastating, bringing about a rise in almost all commodities in the market, where even the once very cheap and common commodity, garri, has now become expensive with some families finding it difficult to purchase the commodity.

The elephant in the room is that you Nigerians do not want to make the hard sacrifices needed to get us off oil dependency. And doing that does not take one year....It takes several years of harship...while we spend more in industriies ...and try to find markets for our products...meaning that we have to endure....until our industrial production really takes off.

You Nigerians want a resource whose revenues would make you comfortable. Better stop thinking that agric and mining will save us now that oil has failed.....because they are subject to the same price fluctuations as oil. We should industrialse...then we can export something whose price we can controland earn billions.

The tomato issue is also one problem that has caused a nationwide stir and given Nigerians a hard knock, as it is one very vital ingredient in the Nigerian delicacy and cannot be avoided. I haven’t heard any tale or ready any history of tomato causing such a problem in the country like it is now, we never saw it coming, nature played its thing. It can’t be said to be the fault of this administration. It is a situation that caught us all suddenly which was caused by the massive infestation of tomato plantations in the north (been the major supplier of this commodity) by the pest called Tuta Absoluta with the common name Tomato Leafminer. No one certainly can blame this administration for this, although, it could be said that necessary precautionary measures should have been taken by the agricultural sector to avoid such disastrous infestation.

Very true....but the reason why we are not making the pesticides needed for tomato pests....is because we Nigerians prefer to import and import rather than manufacture. Yes...GEJ never had that problem because there was cash to import the pesticides needed thanks to high oil prices. This over importation discourages local production.

That is why APC must make the hard choice and industrialize. But they don't like that the road leads via austerity.

Talking about running the government, this administration has not been up and doing, with things moving from bad to worse, Nigerians groaning everyday, massive sacking in numerous companies, insecurity, employment soaring higher. Looking at the fuel subsidy issue, removing the subsidy was a very good call, but truth be told, its timing was wrong. Removing the subsidy at a time when oil prices had fallen and naira losing its value at an alarming pace, it was not a good call. Though, Yes! The federal government was able to make some money from the removal, yes! The subsidy profiteers have been knocked out, but the time it happened wasn’t a good one. The removal of subsidy brought the price of petrol from N86.5 to N145 which dealt a serious blow to Nigerians, bringing prices of commodities even higher after the dollar price has caused its own effect.

Back in 2012....you people said that the timing was wrong too. re subsidy.

And all the sacking etc.....everything is due to our dependency on oil....which is not cured in a year. GEJ did not do a good job of it...neither did many of our leaders past. We are a resource dependent nation. When the price of our resources are high.....we run AMOK with cash (Gowon's comment in 1974 about Nigeria having too much money to spend comes to mind). When it goes low...cash becomes difficult to spend.

We can stop being resource dependent....but that means a end to awoof cash and corruption which you Nigerians love.

The handling of insecurity another issue that has made this government questionable. We were promised a secured nation, but its a no news anymore about the new threats that have began to ravage the country. The government has not done enough is curbing the situation, it is the responsibility of the government to invite involved parties and have a meaningful dialogue, with each party receiving the same care and attention given to others. I personally am waiting for the moment when we would have a government headed by a personality who gives no preference based on tribes

In other words....you want more people from your tribe in government so that you can chop the crumbs they leave over f rom their looting.

That is not good government. Good government is hard work.....not about how many people you have in office from your tribe..

Boko is on the run, and bombing pipelines does no one any good.

Another thing about I hold against this government has been the rate of travels by the president. No good leader leaves his home unsettled to settle matters abroad and this has put the president into the black book of many. I recollect a time, in a public transport, a man was bitterly expressing his anger at the numerous travels of the president, asking the questions why? What has he achieved with all the travels? Is any help forthcoming from all these travels? As he was expressing himself, fellow commuters joined also expressed their bad feeling about it. The president has been viewed by numerous persons to be lackadaisical about the welfare of the ordinary Nigerian. His recent travel for the treatment of his ear infection has also caused one big stir in the nation and raised questions, but frankly, is this government taking us for granted? Do Nigerians matter at all to these leaders?

When NARD went on strike during GEJ's regime...the resident doctors union that is....you people called them names...and forced them to end the strike. See where we are now? Bad hospitals...and a government that came in with limited funds to take care of them (Which by my calculations ....will exceed N5 TRILLION.).

The only way for our hospitals to earn more money is by privatizing them, and allwing them to increase their fees so that they have the money to pay for improvements. But you Nigerians do not want that......and at the same time you want more hospitals....so govt listens to you....and the amount of money left per hospital is less and less.

I am not defending PMB here by the way. I am saying that for things to get better in Nigeria...it has to get much worse before it gets better....more worse than this. We have to make the transition from being resoruce dependent....to being an innovation driven economy. ...via austerity.
What you don't understand is that majority of Nigerians won't be able to pay for all these goods and services if everything is privatised. You say hospitals should be privatised too? Haba! How will we poor people afford the services? You are being very insensitive here bro

The N-Power programme is not all about teaching. Other programmes are there.

Meanwhile, the programme is not a ploy to end unemployment but only to ameliorate the plight of the unemployed as they wait for better offers and while government tries to make employment available! If seen from this vantage point, it is commendable.
I agree with you that this is commendable. Am not disputing that. My challenge is that no better employment will fall from heaven. Also most companies or even schools are struggling to maintain their workforce. Am just concerned with what happens after the 2 years. Cost of running outfits or companies are increasing by the day. Everyone is currently looking for how to trim down his staff. Hopefully policies that will reverse this present circumstance will be in full flight as soon as possible. I expect government to start with electricity. Solve this problem and APC will be begged by all even PDP to remain there for life. I believe government know this too and can achieve this.
