Nasir246: My brother exactly my point..people have been shouting up and down about removal of subsidy but here we are today..how sure are we the money rediverted from subsidy payment will not still end up in the pockets of the political elite..in what way will the removal better the life of a poor or an average nigerian..hike in petrol price will eventually lead to hike in food stuff..inflation in every facet of our day to day life but what do i know..well all that they keep saying is our economy this our economy that..the govts economic policies are already a failure...removal of subsidy for sure won't affect the political elite in this country..it will for sure come down on us the masses that move to earn a living by the day!..laslas na to waka leave this country better pass cause there's no hope whatsoever The truth of the matter is this, we can never remove subsidy, it would be 2 expensive. The market should be open more,The importation process should be made transparent. This one where NNPC is doing it in house nah only God go reveal the true extent of damage done, Nigerians will be shocked when power changes hand and the truth is told. |

Mayeldah: What makes you think the money saved from paying subsidies will be put to good use? Let's watch our lives in the next one year if there will be improvements?
Nigeria is a failed state. This is why I think subsidy should never be removed rather it should be properly regulated and accounted for. The western world subsidises more than we do, if you have heard of red and white diesel in the UK you will understand. The subsidy is the only give back the FG does for the ordinary man! |

byrron: You are the one getting it all twisted?
You can't hope on someone to house you rather you should discuss accommodation plan's with people and this is still during the planning stage.
Everything about your traveling should be resolved during the planning stage and not to start figuring things out after embarking on the trip.
When I said accommodation, I don't mean someone housing you in their homes rather they can have access to accommodations you can pay for either by sharing rent bills with people they know that are willing to accommodate other's in exchange for sharing of the bills and some can also have a spare room or basement to rent out to you.
The whole essence of this arrangement is to be closer to those you can easily get to learn more from since you are a complete stranger in a new society and all this has to be figured out during the planning stage while still in Nigeria.
Ask yourself this question -> Do you make plans by just hoping on people?
The answer is No but your plan's involves asking questions from more knowledgeable people and by so doing, you are also getting help because the answers recieved aids in the planning.
Hope you see it from a more broader and logical perspective and once again, not figuring out all these stuffs and just embark on a journey to a foreign land simply because you think you have money is definitely the exact recipe for failure and becoming stranded in a foreign land, you can only do such only if you are a tourist.
Cheers. bro You dnt need anyone to check out accommodation for you if you are not going to hope on someone putting you at thiers. the internet is a great tool, one can simply book a hostel for a week or two, U don't even need to talk to any Human to do this. The major challenge any freshy gonna have abroad is accommodation cos no sane man cant think well without no roof ova their head. When it comes to work and black mkt hustling then you can holla at people. Trust me people will respond more to help request when you are not living with them than requesting to live with them or have them fix you a place to stay or arrange for a place to stay. Some relatives and friends will even switch off their phone or block your number, we have seen this happen over and over again. Even on NL, So for me anyone going abroad in the 1st instance google and book hostels to stay at least two weeks, add that money to your travels, they are the cheapest temp accommodation U can ever get! then from there hustle the rest so help you, God! |

SmartyPants: Bro, I'm not in Nigeria at the moment but I do know that anything federal education is also as cheap as free so don't bring that as a point.
When I am talking about quality of life, you need to ask, what is the average salary for a Ghanaian graduate, and how much is the cost of renting a one bedroom apartment in Ghana? The average Ghanaian graduate can barely save a penny, and not that much is booming in terms of business, which is why they are always crying about foreigners in retail trade.
This is what matters most, not free education, but the ability of individuals to make a decent living and live a decent life. We may not appreciate Nigeria but truth is, in West Africa, we have the best economic opportunities. Thank you, Ghana this Ghana that, we nor go hear word, nor B the Charlies I dey see here day in day out wey nor fit talk! |

byrron: I'm also going to correct your wrong assertions very quickly and will also keep it short.
First of all, God uses human's to help humans.
Secondly, you can't just pack your luggage and embark on a journey where you have zero informations about nor people to guide you, most of the stranded people loitering around in various parts of the world started like this and it ended badly.
Your learning curve overseas becomes lot more easier when you have valuable informations from those that have been there for a while and they can be friends, family members or even stranger's and I'm writing from my own personal experience which overruled your generalized assertions as if it is a universal norm.
Your plan is as good as dead if your plan is based on your own reasonings alone without the impute of those more knowledgeable than you on areas you may need help from.
Cheers. You are missing the point here I never said God does not use people to help you, you also made use of the word strangers, now ask yourself this does one put hope on strangers as a planning strategy to survive anywhere else outside their comfort lounge? What I said up there is clear and simple, never put hope in man, cos if your whole hope is based on a person housing you cos i have seen this happen loads of times then you are going to learn the hard way, The person you hoped to house you might have restriction due to renting arrangement, might have a wife who does not want to share, might have no space, might have travelled, might be ill, might be illegal, loads of mights might even be squatting with a friend etc. |

byrron: You have said it all.
Just a little addition:
If you don't have anyone overseas that is willing to accommodate you for a while and guide you on how to legitimately extend your your stay before the expiration of your visa in that country, you may end up becoming a cow that went to Texas with the hope of becoming a cowboy only to end up as a canned beef.
Leaving the shores of Nigeria shouldn't be based on how much naira you have rather, it should be based on how much factual informations do you know about the country you want to travel to.
What are their immigration requirements and policies for immigrants?
What's the cost of leaving in that country?
What are the required skill set's that are in high demand?
Are they generally receptive to immigrants or generally hostile?
What is their economy like?
These are just a few things you can research on that will expand your knowledge about a country you intend to migrate to and not about the naira you have.
Your millions of naira when converted to most countries currencies becomes a few thousands and God Forbids you fall sick and requires medical attention, then you will have to pay out of pocket since you have no medical insurance and you get a medical bill as cheap as $1500 for just staying a few hours in the hospital.
You can now see how your money is beginning to evaporate on unforseen circumstances beyond your contemplations nor control and these are just early days with more unforseen occurrences still ahead.
You just don't get into a country and start working the next day, it could take month's depending on the work eligibility requirements of that country which is why you really need to do a thorough research about the country you intend to migrate to before embarking on that journey.
Traveling agents are only interested in your money and will tell you all the sweet stories you want to hear in other to get your money and then ship you out to the wilderness were you will meet with hard-core reality.
Your final decisions should be knowledge-based.
Wishing the OP the very best.
Bro, let me say this very quick and short, ABROAD, depend on nobody except GOD, if you plan is based on a friend..family or a person helping you out, you plan is as good as dead in the 1st instance! |

swiperthefox: Do you know that Ghana has a health card for their citizens, which includes free medical care and medication? Do you know that Ghana has free tuition from primary to secondary school, and they also feed everyday in school? Ghana is a 1000% better than Nigeria. What is the use of a beautiful environment with nothing to offer your citizens? You think so? try and talk to a Ghanian on a level playing field you will realise they envy us Nigerians. Who told you Nigerians do not have free health care? some of us do cos we paid for it, It's not free to everybody in Ghana only the paying few just like in the USA. Let me tell you something, the ghana nation per index figure is poorer than Nigeria, We are a high consumer environment and economy, we are more resilient than most other African countries, as bad as we may be, we have the mantle of change within our own hands, the way forward is to stop the over-dependency on government. |

kikero: Yes, they were paying subsides for the power sector because that was the structure they met in place which was enshrined in law by the previous government
The previous government, while privatizing power, put in place a system whereby discos were forced to charge below the cost of production of electricity
This put discos in a difficult situation. As a result, they had to keep on rejecting power because they have been making losses due to the fact that it costs 53 naira to produce one kWh of power, yet discos had to sell it between 21 to 30 naira.
So the current government ended up paying discos subsides of a trillion naira each, partly with loans to prevent them from losing money and collapsing. Even then it isn't enough because that just covers the difference between the cost of production and selling power
Of course, the current government could not reverse the system without falling into legal issues you guys just wake up and type trashhhhhhh, how can DISCos be paid for generation when their main function as DISCOs is Distribution and generation is the sole responsibility of the GENCOs ?, make Una dey try research a bit, Im not in the power sector but I have a rough idea of what you are trying to say but spilled out in the wrong , the summary of this is, THEM SAY! |
