omohayek: Where exactly in SE London can one find these "£450/month all-inclusive" rooms you mention? And what kind of work would this wannabe "hustler" be doing in London for his or her workplace to be close to such a cheap room? And since when has earning £2,000 a month translated into £30,000 a year? Are you using some other sort of arithmetic than the one I'm familiar with, according to which the right figure should be £24,000?
Stop peddling lies and impossible dreams to the OP: London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, where even natural-born British citizens with decent jobs as policemen and teachers have real difficulty getting by, even when they've moved to the far outskirts of the city. Sums like £120 a day or £2,000 a month can seem like a lot to a Nigerian who is only thinking in terms of raw exchange rates, but once the cost of living in London is factored in, they turn out to be peanuts, not enough to sustain anything more than a barebones existence. For an unskilled wannabe illegal immigrant like the OP - with all the talk of "hustling" - even such low sums will be out of reach, and in the meantime there will be the constant strain from having to dodge authorities on the watch for, while working the sh*ttiest, low-prestige jobs where one's self-esteem will take a daily sustained battering. The notion that London is any sort of El-Dorado for someone who doesn't have in-demand skills is pure delusion.
To the OP, I'll say this much: if you aren't a qualified nurse or doctor, don't have strong programming skills, and aren't an engineer or accountant with years of experience at international firms like Shell and PWC, don't bother setting out for London, as all you are likely to find - if you ever even make it into the country in the first place - is suffering, humiliation and constant fear, living life at the very bottom rung of society. There are many "hustlers" in the UK who would love to return to what they had in Nigeria, but are unable to do so out of fear of losing face to all the people back home they've been feeding false tales of prosperity over the years. If U do nt understand ask questions, People who live and work in the UK will Understand waht I mean by 2k means 30k, your yearly tax for you to have a take home of 2k must be close 6k plus, then add NI contribution plus Pension, your deduction must have clocked 7k plus, now do the matsh Plz 2k monthly take home must mean 24K take home in a year. your tax at that must be 6k plus add to 24k is that not more than 30k ?? This was why I said a person with a 2k take home is an Average earner and a middle class. |

I pin pointed so many factors that make living in UK difficult. These factors tend to make one overprudent in spending. Lubish, its the mindset of the likes of you who think self entitlement is their birth right that has Nigeria in the mess it is today, U want good facilitied but you do nt want to pay for it. nairalandchris: First and foremost, do you have the visa yet or you are counting your chicks before the eggs hatch.
2. Why would you go to the UK to hustle and you live in London? You will spend your whole money on bills. I laugh at my friends living in London and complaining. Apart from the Nigerian community support and transport system, I don't like it.
In London, a 1bedroom flat cost btw £1200 to £2000 depending it's proximity to central London. But in Liverpool and Manchester, you could get same accommodation for £400.
3 if you are illegal in london you go suffer, I swear you go suffer. People will take advantage of you and use you. Even people that are below your level if you guys were in Nigeria. But if you are unmarried maybe God will help you find a woman. Then quickly start a family life. But then to still get the documentation will be very hard and they will trouble your soul before you get it.
4. I regretted going to the UK during my first two years. It was very hard for me. I suffered many afflictions to my soul but I didn't want to come back empty to Nigeria. But in third year, God made me to mile. Changed my story for the better. Now those that use to help me now borrow & beg me for money. Don't ask me what I did. So n.a. destiny.
5. It is worth it if you are able to suffer awhile. I have friends who are 10 years illegal here and have nothing, not even a land to show for it back home.
6. The best way to think about going aboard is not to hustle but to live a quality life. There are those born here and are broke and homeless or facing stro g financial challenges. What then is the possibility that you will come here and blow up. At all at all, you will be at most average, and die an advance man here.
I believe I have shared my 2 cent. Well said,What I take from ur post is that there is Equall opportunity for everybody to Blow 2nd U 4got to add, Ur kids will never ever Know about the suffering in Nigeria yet they might come be the minister of Finance one day but with NYSC Exemption certificate ahahaha |

Gkemz: If your intention of traveling outside is for the purpose of hustling, remove UK from your list. Visa to UK is expensive and you can't use student visa to secure a job. Tuition fee is also expensive and if you manage to find your way in for business, taxes and government levies are inevitable. You virtually pay for everything and if you must own a well furnished house with two exotic cars you must provide evidence of your earnings. UK lifestyle makes one miserly and stingy. So because U pay tax U become stingy, well look at Nigerians who do not pay taxes, they are worse than STINGY! which do you chose? |

gabicon: Do you know that house rent in UK is £500-750 monthly? (A months rent in London is a year's rent in Nigeria)
Do you know that council taxes is £200-300?
Do you know that the tax on £2k is about 15%?
Utility bills £200
Insurance?
Transport?
Food? bross I know all there is to know in the Uk, I have lived here 18 years, I have worked in the private sector and public sector, SO when I am talking Im talking from vast knowledge and expirience. The watch word is Plan well, have an Entry strategy and exit strategy, dont get carried away by shiny things then u r good to go.\\this society works, and with every working society people thrive and progresss if U r ready to get down and dirty! Sometimes most of you just come on here and talk about what u know next to nothing about, for example Insurance. What has that got to do with a person who just migrated to the Uk? what is he Insuring? Utility Bills £200? where did U get that figure from plz? there are rooms going in SE London for £450 all bills inclussive even Internet. Transport, £110 will get you amonthly pass from zone 1 to 3 for those taking the underground, but the Buses are way cheaper, now people ride bike to work or simply live near work . when we say earn 2k it was after tax not B4 tax hence I said a person earning 2K means 30£k plus per year Still on tax, It is a personal matter, we all have tax code, your circumstances determins your tax code, so its not a blanket % You are talking about Council Tax, let me Educate you.You only Pay council tax when you rent a whole House or Flat, When you rent a Room you do not pay council Tax in lump sum, it is inclussive in ur rent.as we speak there are self contains going for £600 in SE18 and SE28 all Bils inclussive ,water, gas, electric,Council tax,TV licence and Internet. you got any more explanations you want cleared |

gabicon: You need to be logical in making this decision, if you earn 80k in Nigeria I presume that the skills you have are rudimentary, we Nigeria is like every other country in the world low skill low pay. Lets look at it this way if you warn £2k in London, you probably won't be able to maintain a saving cos the cost of living is high, I have a number of folks trying to exist the system in UK but for how things are in Nigeria. Secondly consider the whole Brexit wahala, should the deal fall through all illegal and unproductive emigrats will face deportation. My advise is if you desire to relocate develop your skills here in Nigeria be accredited with international bodies then it will be the UK looking for you but I pretty much guess when you do that you won't want to leave Nigeria again. Erme can I ask U a question ? Do you know earning 2k in the UK means earning 30k plus per year ? Do you know the Police and the Army earn less than that at entry point ? Do U also know that a 2k job means you are middle class ? |

This section has not been as active as ot used to. So I decided to bring some of the old flavour back. I remembered Gazzuzz' trip from the East to Lagos driving his ever reliable '98 (now 2000) Toyota Avensis and decided to do likewise.
My trip starts tomorrow from the Garden city of Port Harcourt and end in the seat of West African civilisation, Lagos. I will hopefully be returning back the day after arrival.
I am quite familiar with the routes to take and avoid, however, your input is always welcome.
I plan to take pictures of the scenery, bad and good spots amongst others.
I only ask for your encouragement and views on this thread. Yabbing is allowed but no insults please. Ogun state Section of the benin lagos road is craaaap, can cause a lady to have miscariage.Seriously |

Wakago: You see, you are the one confusing yourself here. I didn't mention DUG History but you did. I didn't put cap on my own Dug like you did. Since you agreed with the word 'Dig', tenses of verb made me understand that the past participle of Dig or dig is dug . So it can't be dig history rather dug. The prof should have let you know that when working on artifacts, dating of such objects is pertinent hence carbon dating is unavoidable. I learnt/heard this for the first time in my secondary school days. Hnmmm "History student" ? I had my first degree in History in 1997 and Masters subsequently. Like I said earlier, History and Archeology are bed fellows. But to you, you thought carbon dating was tought exclusively in secondary school. revontuli: I have friends who do such digs, some are professional archaeologists and some are volunteers helping them clean and sort the artifacts. These people camp out in the middle of nowhere dig sites and sleep rough, eat awful camp food for weeks, they do rough physical work a day everyday and they are supervised by a tenured professor, and media too if it's an important discovery.
These people also go through strict eethics education, stealing ancient artifacts is a big crime in many countries and punished heavily if caught.
These people study for years and do all that tough work digging under the hot sun, spend many years with this, do you think they would throw away a career and intrrnational prestige they earned by publishing research papers, all what they worked so hard to build for grave robbery? Those guys mehn, I duff my heart when ever I see them, they came to us during the crossrail Dig in London. These guys get time, brushing one bone for like 4 hours.I dont think I can ever have such endurance an composure.never |

Wakago: More reason you need to ask when you don't know something rather than proof to know everything others. know. How will you know when you don't believe there is anything like dug history. This part of history deals with excavation of artifacts hence the dating. These are the basics of History. I did, |I asked a prof that works in the national history musum in London tralfagers square.he was a coleageue of mine during 2nd degree days at uni.he says there is nothing like DUG history.I am an Engineer so |i dnt know jack shyete about this but we use CO dating as a means to measure. Now my initial Arguement was that Co dating is not tought in secondary schools,I have asked you to name a text that contains carbon dating methods used in any of the Nigerian school you have seen, you ended up with the above.I have also asked you to point me to any text or quotes or written citation to the word DUG History as a kind of history, we are still left with the above statement. You see my friend, Assumption is terrible, Its a vein that lack no method nor science cos it can not be proven,I always stick to what I know, Ask me anything about fluid mechanic then yay sun will shine!ANything to do with Hydrolics in heavy Engines, you r my man, What you are describing is called a process/method not a kind/type. My Musume friend just sugested to me that what you might be trying to say is the process of collecting history from undernith the earth but it is calle excavation(process) not kind and the pit it is collected from is called a DIG.I can link you directly to him if U r interested in such thing that is if you are a history student. |
