isale_gan2:It means that if someone marries more than ) wife the state wife, the state is no longer obligated to prosecute his as a criminal. However, the first wife still has the right to sue the husband and claim damages. This is more important when the marriage was was contracted on the basis that it would be monogamous as most church weddings are. If the man then changes his mind and marries another wife against the first wife's wishes, she can sue. |
Whatever joo. The new year is almost here so you people had better get ready to pay 100% of your January salary as first fruits. Other wise the god shall punish your wickedness and turn his face away from you. Thy crops shall wither in the fields, thy goats and thy sheep shall perish. The lord shall smite thine children and thine children's children, even to the seventh generation. For thou hath stolen that which belongs to the lord, and kept his offering for thineselves. [/sarcasm] |
GEJ and co are pissing on us and Beaf keeps shouting that it's rain. If it's rain, how come it's yellow and smells like ammonia? |
Look at all these people bashing PDP. As if come 2015 you're not all going to line up and vote for them again like you did in April. Nigerians! Never have I seen a bigger bunch of mugus. |
Deep Sight:Obviously, they're hoping that by passing this bill they can make Nigerians to forget what a lazy, useless bunch of parasites they all are. They are hoping that we'll forget that they failed to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill last term and that the bill has to start the entire process again from scratch. They are hoping we'll forget about the dozens of other important bills that they've been sitting on, some for up to a decade, without passing. They are hoping that we'll forget about how they were able to amend the constitution in record time to protect their jumbo allowances, yet they couldn't find time to make the small change that would allow states to control the electricity they generate by themselves and improve the power situation. They want us to forget about the sharing of money every time they pass a budget. But one day their hour will come. I don't know what will happen in the future, but there can be no doubt that things cannot remain this way for long. |
Remii:The EU treaty doesn't discriminate against a segment of the population or attempt to strip them of their civil rights. You're conflating two issues that have nothing in common. |
What really annoys me is the level of ignorance Nigerians are so proud to display everytime the topic of hömösèxuality comes up. I realize that most of us have never knowingly interacted with a gäy person before, but how hard is it to read a wikipedia article or two so that you'll have some clue about what you're talking about other than what your pastor said? It's really embarrasing. |
Obinoscopy:I fully agree on points 1 and 5. But not so much on the 3 in between. Just because someone who got dumped or had a traumatic experience and then later came out as gäy doesn't mean that trauma/heartbreak leads to hömösèxuality. Correlation is not the same as causation. There are plenty of people who've had such experiences who aren't gäy and could never imagine being with a member of the same sèx. Also practically everyone with a weird sèxual predeliction would be able to dig up something from their childhood to try and explain it (my uncle pinched my nîpple when I was 5 and now I can't stop staring at girls' tîtties, boo hoo!). Number 4 is circular reasoning. Many people consider hömösèxuality itself to be a psychcosexual disorder especially in the more effeminate gäys and butch lèsbians. |
2buff:And you know all this how? Nice theory but unfortunately reality disagrees with you. People are most definitely born gäy. It even tends to run in families. And it's not something they can control. Most of the gäys I've spoke to would give their left nut to become straight. I know a guy who did 40 days fasting and prayer, and another guy who went for deliverance at Mountain of Fire all to no avail. There's far too much ignorance about hömösèxuality in Nigeria. That's a big part of what's feeding the hatred. Maybe you guys shoud ty reading a little about it. Wikipedia would be a good place to start. |
@Gbawe Don't be fooled, the subsidy money is included. If not, how come this budget is 6% higher than last year's which included the subsidy? If the savings had been taken out, this budget would have been significantly less. I'm not buying it. The bulk of the money has almost certainly been used to pad this budget. And the capital spending is only 15% higher. If my expectations hadn't already been so low, I'm sure I would have been disappointed. |
apocalypse:Davidson and Osmond Ezenwa. |
moderattor:As long as he does his job well, what difference does it make who the president marries? And frankly, even David Mark in a dress would be an improvement over GEJ's current wife. Just my opinion. |
Henry120:Try 40k. And only in city dwelling families with 2 breadwinners. In rural areas its even less than that. Remember that the people in cars are the 1%ers. The average nigerians are the maiguards, hawkers and women trading at the side of the road. More than half of Nigerians actually live in rural areas. And they are dirt poor. |
Henry120:In what universe does the average Nigerian family earn 160k? Do you mean Zimbabwean dollars or what? Are you aware that >50% of us live below the absolute poverty line? Your uncle must be a senator or something for you to be thinking like this. Maybe you should ask your driver to take out of Asokoro one of these days so you can see how the real Nigerians live. |
Beaf:Are you suggesting that there's going to be another supplementary budget soon? And what's taking so long in figuring out how to spend the money? The suffering from the subsidy removal is going to start immediately, yet Nigerians are supposed to wait while the government shuffles its feet? Its not like anybody has any high expectations for the "solid capital and welfare projects" but the least they could do is act quickly. EDIT: Also, if the subsidy savings aren't included, how come this budget isn't significantly less than last years which included the subsidy? Its's actually 6% more when it should be at least N1.3trillion less. |
So he's removed the fuel subsidy, yet capital spending only went up by 15%. The bulk of the money is being flushed down the toilet that is the federal recurrent budget. I guess it was too much to ask that he do something sensible with the money like build some new roads or a railway. Well, na una vote for am sha. Enjoy your PDP. |
When's the autopsy? Or are we just going to assume it was "cardiac arrest" and forget about it? |
Wexelion:Kissing in public, even between heterosèxuals, is frowned upon in most parts of Nigeria. So if a religious fanatic introduces a bill that outlaws contraceptives and all types of sèx other than the missionary position, you'd support him? Should impotent men and post-menopausal women be banned from getting married? What about girls with flat chests? Or people born with ambiguous gènitalia? |
Mobinga:What business is it of yours where other people put their dîcks? You're talking about what two consenting adults do in private. How does it affect you? Is anybody trying to force you to bend over for them? Why can't you just face your own life and keep your mind out of other people's bedrooms? I hope you are aware that there are religious fanatics here in Nigeria that see you in the exact same way you look at the gäys. Learn to live and let live. |
2buff:Thank you!!! Now if I can just convince the remaining 160 million Nigerians to settle down and examine the bill rationally, I can finally get some rest. |
senbonzakura_kageyoshi:I'm actually more interested in knowing if he's aware that Nigeria isn't part of the US. |
Obinoscopy:Fair criticism. Let me try again: Are male hömösèxuals at a higher risk of contracting HIV and other STIs? The answer is yes, the risk is significantly higher however, female heterosèxuals who engage in anäl sex are also at a similar risk. Are female hömösexuals at a higher risk of contracting HIV and other STIs? The answer is no, female/female sèx is safer than both male/female and male/male sèx. In addition, all forms of sèx are much safer when adequate precautions are taken including and especially the use of condoms. I hope that is clearer. |
dinachi:That you think I would sidestep something like this is even more evidence that you haven't read the thread. The issue of the health risks of hömöintimate sex is not as simple as it appears. For instance, lèsbian sèx is far, far safer than male/female sèx especially when there's no condom involved. Also all the risks of male/male sèx also apply to heterosèxual couples who engage in änal sèx (this is far more common than people think, even in Nigeria). Also, the level of risk is related to the prevalence of STIs and HIV in the population therefore gäy sex with a low risk partner can be safer than hetero sèx with a high risk partner. While there is no doubt that änal intercourse is riskier than väginal intercourse (particularly to the receptive partner), most of these risks can be mitigated through the use of condoms, limiting the number of partners and adequate lubrication. In general, if proper precautions are taken, gäy sex is safe. It's certainly much safer than unprotected hetero sèx with an unscreened partner which is how HIV is mostly spread in Africa. |
X-factoria:The morality issue has been adequately dealt with by others earlier in this thread. To summarise, morality varies from person to person and from culture to culture. I'm sure your idea of morality differs from that of the average muslim fundamentalist's. Yet both of you are entitled to your views under the constitution. A problem only arises when one person tries to impose his views on others like you and Boko Haram are trying to do. I said LGBTs are threats to our corporate peace in Nigeria. Have you disproved that? That which is asserted without evidence can be discarded without evidence. The burden of proof is on you. Look, you don't have to get more hypocritical or start cooking lies. You and your man-lover-alikes got your damn insanity from the west. Homosexualism is a western export to the world. That is why I always refer you to your western lords who have been crying more than the bereaved.Hömösèxuality has existed in Africa since the dawn of time. Google "history of hömösèxuality in africa". I'm going to ignore the threat to my person since nothing in your previous posts suggests that you should be taken seriously. |
PeeBee:I agree. |
Ovamboland:@Ovamboland Don't be too hard on Dinachi. It seems that reading and comprehension are a big challenge for him. Blame our poor educational system. |
@peebee You sound just like the sharia proponents and Boko Haram spokesmen. You think that your religious edicts should apply to everyone. Well, thankfully, the constitution prohibits state religions so we are safe. Let me suggest rebel controlled Somalia if you want to live in a society ruled by religion. @Dinachi You can go through my posting history if you want proof that I'm not a christian. Let me again point out that whether or not I am one is irrelevant to our discussion. Google "ad hominem fallacy". |
X-factoria:I've already addressed everything yo've said earlier. Read the thread from the beginning please and don't post again unless you have something original. Also you people keep on talking about the British, the Americans and the "white lords" as if their opinions are in anyway relevant. I'm a full blooded Nigerian, I've lived most of my life here and I love my country which is why I'm spending so much time and effort defending her constitution from misguided bigots like you people and David Mark. So unless you have a picture of me collecting a cheque from Obama, I suggest you drop it. |
dinachi:Show me the part of the Nairaland terms of use that prevents gäy people from posting. Then follow that up with some actual evidence that I'm gäy, preferably the type that exists outside your imagination and I'll leave this thread. If its so hard for you to believe that someone can have empathy for his fellow human beings who are being misrepresented and oppressed, then that is your problem. But like I said, feel free to believe what you like. I don't really care. Unlike some people, I'm not ignorant enough to think calling someone gäy is an insult. |
rhymz:If you'd bothered to read through the thread before posting, you'd know that religion has been the most common argument used to support this bill. It was even used by David Mark on several occasions. Also, you'd also have read all the hate-filled invectives spewed out by people on your side. Why do you sound so angry and concerned?? Are you g'ay?? Or is the closet getting stuffy and you want to come out but this bill is threatening to take the fresh air you so badly are gasping for. You talk so much of their rights, yet my own rights and sensibilities means nothing to you, typical of a g'ay man arguing with people who diasgree with their life style or need to expand it. If you want to be g'ay it is all good but don't expect anyone to bend over for you( cos I don't trust you lots, might just stick it in the process) just because you are man-lover. man-lover people have freedom of rights to expression not any different from those religious bodies whose freedom of expression are being curtailed every day just to accommodate the inordinate demands ans desires of your sect. Go and read all that ga'y rights nonsense to people who have been indoctrinated by the man-lover majority influenced western mainstream media and books. I am African, I have a mind of my own, I don't have to see things through the jaundiced lens of the west. What, this again? Opposing discrimination against midgets doesn't make you a midget, I thought we covered that already. But if you so badly want to believe that I'm gay, then go ahead and do so, I really don't care either way. Your ad hominem attacks don't reduce the validity of my arguments. Any rational person can see that, I'm not sure why you can't. |
rhymz:Abeg, stop copy-pasting oyimbo nonsense. HIV in Africa is predominantly spread through heterosexuäl sèx. The nature of the epidemic here is completely different from the one in the US which started in the gäy community. You might as well use the same argument to claim that hetero sèx should be banned since it spreads Human Papilloma Virus which causes cervical cancer, the number 1 cancer in Nigerian women. |
rhymz:Rubbish! It is not a fundamental huma right to run an adoption agency, or to be a military chaplain, or to not pay taxes. No religion can give a license to break the law. If you religion does't allow you to perform the requirements of your job, then find another one. The ramifications like healthcare are also often ignored. The liefestyle is in and of itself inherently unhealthy so it imposes a disproportionate burden on healthcare resources which is partiucularly troublesome since the same people that often push this agenda are the same ones pushing for increased economic collectivism thru universal healthcare and other forms of redistributive collectivist economic sytems. So on one hand they tell us that what they do in their bedrooms is none of our business but on the other hand they tell us that the financial costs of the medical consequences of what they do in their bedrooms belong to all of us.Again, rubbish! Homösexuälity is not the only dangerous practice that affects public health. What about obesity? What about smoking? Both of these are far more dangerous and expensive to the public than hömösexuality. Are you suggesting that fat people should go to prison for associating with other fat people? In any case, if health were a concern, the bill wouldn't also target gäy HIV charities. Hömösèxual sèx is with a condom is actually less dangerous than hetero sèx without one in most cases. Other issues that people dont consider are issues like immigration policy. What happens when every Tom , and Harry decides to file for a Green Card for their man-lover partner ?? What impact will that have in terms of increasing the backlog and processing times? What is to stop the proliferation of fraud since any two men or women can now claim to be a in a same sex relationship even if they are not homosexuals? We are already seeing many cases like this come to our courts. If we reconfigure the legal definition of family to allow for man-lover coupling then what is to stop reconfiruation for any kind of polygynous permutations (2 men/3women, 1 man/4women, 4 men/1 woman) and so on and so forth with all the attendant strains on our legal system .Can you imagine the complexity of dissolving a 2man/3 women marriage in a divorce court?Especially if children are involved ?All you are describing are difficulties caused bu attempting to discriminate against gäys. There is no way to differentiate between gäys and heteros and there is no reason to dicriminate between them. Stop the discrimination and those problems will go away. In any case thanks for this writeup Mr Olabanji and I must say am aslo particularly appreciative of your latter reference to Mr Obama (whom in my mind is probably the worst thing that has ever hapenned to black people and the future of the black race) due to his stance on this and other issues . All the bestObama supports equal rights for hömösexuals. He certainly never advocates stripping them of constitutional rights. And whocares what he thinks anyway? Unless he has a Nigerian passport, his opinion is irrelevant. |
