freeze001: Things have gotten worse, but they've been getting worse at a slightly slower rate than under Jonathan and Yar'Adua. The fact is that all the major parties have agreed that the lion's share of the wealth should go to the elites. Politicians, senior military, former warlords, and crony capitalists like Dangote and Otedola get the lion's share while we get crumbs for things ordinary Nigerians rely on. Like healthcare, public transportation, supporting farmers, power, etc. Rich people don't need any of those things so the government doesn't bother to invest in them. It was the same under the PDP, and its the same now. Ordinary Nigerians need to develop class consciousness so we can face our real enemy: the super rich. 1 Like |

If you look at the breakdown of exit polls, you can see how exactly how the Church has lost all influence so fast. The younger people were, the more they voted against the church's wishes. Almost 90% of people between 18 and 25 voted to repeal. The only age group that voted the way the church wanted were those 65 and above. www.nairaland.com/attachments/7165762_abortionreferendum_pngd9d48035380bcb6312949d00f380bf7d The young people are no longer religious. People of childbearing age are no longer religious and so they're not going to pass it on to their kids. The only people the church has any control over are the elderly and the moment they start dying of old age, that is the end of catholic Ireland. We have a lot to learn from these guys. Maybe the best way to solve Nigeria's religion problem is to stop our young people from being indoctrinated. |

SouthEastFacts: In 1983, they amended their constitution to ensure that abortion could only be legal if the pregnancy would lead to the mother's death. In practice though, it made abortion practically impossible in virtually all circumstances. There've been miscarrying women who've died because the foetus wasn't removed on time. There was one rape victim who was tied to a bed, force-fed via tubes for weeks and forced to have a C-section after government doctors decided that she was suicidal and trying to starve herself to death. The main proponent for this draconian amendment was the Catholic Church which had always had a huge influence over Ireland. The amendment was solely about forcing the Church's religious beliefs on everybody and the people who wrote it didn't care about the lives or well-being of Irish women. Now that the people have repealed it, the government has promised to pass a law legalizing abortion up to 12 weeks with reasonable exceptions for later pregnancies. This is like Saudi or Iranian people voting to remove some of the crazy Islam stuff from their laws. It's a very big deal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighth_Amendment_of_the_Constitution_of_Ireland |

Breaking the vote down by age really shows how dead Catholicism is in that county. Over 80% of people aged 18-34 voted Yes. The only age group that voted in favour of keeping abortion illegal are people older than 65. And they're all going to be dead soon. This should be our template for how to cure Nigeria of excessive religiosity. We need to block people from infecting their kids with it.

Despite being the most catholic country in Europe, the Irish people just voted to legalize abortion in a constitutional referendum yesterday. The result was a landslide for the Yes side. with every single county in the country except one voting yes. Even the majority of conservative rural communities voted yes. The Irish Catholic Church went all out trying to convince people to vote against the measure but failed woefully. This is the second major defeat for them in 3 years since they lost the gay marriage referendum in 2015. Catholicism in Ireland is finished. They probably shouldn't have râped so many kids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaGj1rJdPKo |

Here's an idea: Why don't you just ask an atheist why they left Christianity and listen to what they tell you? Maybe you'll hear something different from what Paul wrote 2000 years ago about a completely different set of people in a totally different environment. There's a lot of stuff we know now that the bible made no mention of (eg classical physics, germ theory of disease, boiling water before drinking it). Maybe you shouldn't assume the answer to every question is in the bible. Maybe you should try going out to gather information and try to figure things out yourself based on what you see in the real world. To me that seems better than just burying you face in an old book and assuming that you know everything. |

Because all the living things that couldn't breathe the air and drink the water didn't survive or leave children behind. Most animals die in infancy, this was even true of human beings until very recently. Life is like a cruel game where almost everybody loses. But you are descended from an unbroken lineage of winners. And you have inherited the adaptations and mutations that allowed your ancestors to survive while most of their mates were dying. That's why the world looks so welcoming. As someone who's been over there recently, I find that impossible to believe. For one, you don't see every 2nd or third building converted to a church/mosque. As far as I can tell, we're the ones exporting religiosity over there judging by the number of TB Joshua and Oyedepo posters I saw. 1 Like |

What's so grotesque about the statue? And how is it worse than the dead guy on a stick image that Christians use to glorify torture and human sacrifice? The funny thing about this Satanic Temple matter is that even though Christians have been repeatedly informed that they're being trolled, they still react in the exact same way. The Satanists are really just using it to expose Christian hypocrisy and to force them to respect separation of church and state. They've said over and over that they oppose putting religious monuments on public land, but if Christians insisted on them, the Satanists would also put theirs. Incidentally, the organisers of the event received multiple threats of arson and death from "loving Christians". The owner of the original venue was also harassed into cancelling their contract forcing them to move the event to a secret venue. And to screen out potential Christian terrorists and keep people safe, they required everyone to sign this contract before being told the new secret location: I agree that by signing this document under any name, given or adopted, actual or pseudonymous, I am hereby avowing my soul to Satan (aka Abbadon, aka Lucifer, aka Beelzebub, aka The Antichrist). I do so knowing that He (aka The Fallen One, aka The Father of Lies) or any of His representatives may choose to collect my eternal soul at any time, with or without notice. I understand that my signature or mark representing any name, real or made up, upon these papers constitutes a lasting and eternal contract, and that there will be no further negotiations on the matter of my eternal soul. The event went off without a hitch. I guess non of the religious crazies were willing to sign. 6 Likes |

@OP Life is short. I advice you not to waste your time with someone who doesn't respect you enough to not try and force her bullshiat down your throat. The moment you get married or have a kid, you'll be stuck with her. Nothing is better than religion at causing strife within families. It's not worth the stress. I think you should take your time and look for an atheist chick (they exist), or a religious one who is amenable to reason and evidence. Plus many people go to church for social reasons and remain sceptical about all the magic nonsense. It is possible to have a successful relationship with a religious person, but she has to be willing to respect your position and compromise when it comes to things like how to raise your children and so on. Unfortunately, both Christianity and Islam teach their people never to compromise, and demonize all contrary opinions so good luck finding middle ground with a true believer. |

Nobody should be surprised at what happened in Ireland. Most Irish people have at least one gay friend or relative and they tend to be lovely people. On the other hand, the catholic church have been actively and aggressively evil for decades. Not a month goes by without some new revelation of some horrible thing they've done in the past. Remember that Ireland had arguably the worst child rápe scandal and the most aggressive cover up. There was also the horrific amounts of physical and mental abuse that they routine subjected children in their schools and orphanages to. There was the issue of them enslaving thousands of "fallen women" in their for profit "Magdalene laundries". There was their practice of taking away the children of unwed mothers and dumping them in orphanages (many of whom had under-5 mortality rates higher thanstone age societies). There was the 800 baby skeletons that were discovered dumped in a catholic orphanage's septic tank. There was the church encouraging doctors to to cripple women having difficult labour by cutting open their pelvises instead of doing C-Sections to allow them have the huge families the church is obsessed with. There's the repressive anti-abortion laws that lead to one râpe victim to be tied to a bed and force-fed through a tube because for 3 months then forced to have a c-section because she was refused to eat due to severe depression caused by being forced to carry a rápe baby to term. The church should be happy the Irish haven't chased them out of their country with cutlasses and sticks. Because that's what the deserve. 3 Likes |

When President Retardeen was busy sharing dollars to every Tom, Dick and Harry for election support; he didn't know that it would harm the naira abi? Now his useless government is pushing this pointless policy that will do little more than harm ordinary people. If the government wants to protect the Naira, they should stop spending money like its toilet paper. Reduce staff numbers and the political office holders' pay. Merge ministries, reduce the huge crowds that go for every foreign trip, stop wasting money on useless pilgrimages. Build up our foreign reserves so that international businesses would have some confidence in our currency instead of getting rid of it as soon as possible because they know its going to depreciate. Stop all this voodoo economics bullshìt! If that's much for Jonathan to handle, he should just sit on his hands and try not to fùck things up worse before May 29. NumberOne2: It's true that nothing is 100% certain and very scientist know this. But you have to base your beliefs on the best available evidence and reject claims that are unsupported, impossible or implausible. Just because you're not 100% sure doesn't give you the license to make up stories. The Bible and Koran are not supported by any evidence, contradict known facts, are internally self contradictory, and require cherry-picking and brainwashing for them to make any semblance of sense. Even if you think reality has been altered in some unseen way, that still justify believing in something that is self-refuting like Christianity (or Islam). 4 Likes |
Religion / Re: Big Issue!Why Didn't Redemption Stop Women's Childbirth Pain Caused By Eve? by EvilBrain1(m): 11:15am On May 03, 2015 |
@OP Let me start with the obvious: The biblical creation story is a myth with no basis in reality. I hope that is clear. Now, the reason childbirth is especially difficult for humans is due to a quirk if our evolutionary history. Millions of years ago, our ancestors started walking upright. This freed their hands to make tools and started an evolutionary arms race among them because those who could make and use better tools outcompeted their rivals who couldn't, leading to bigger and bigger brains. At the same time, our upright posture meant those with a narrow pelvis could run and walk more efficiently. Since hunting was our major source of protein for millions of years, this was a big deal that seriously affected survival. Big head + narrow pelvis = difficult childbirth. That's why Jesus can't fix the problem. Incidentally, its the the same big brains that are providing the solution with C-Sections and epidurals and highly-trained obstetricians. 2 Likes |

It is completely wrong to say atheists don't have a standard, of course we have a standard. Our standard is reality, and its better than any stupíd magic book. Anything that does not agree with reality as demonstrated by observation and experiment (or when those are not obtainable, by logical deduction) is bullshít. Meanwhile, according to the latest surveys, 71% of Britons don't practice any religion even though they might call themselves Christians or muslims or whatever. In fact more than one in five identify as atheists and if you include agnostics, they would be the largest "religious group" in the UK at 38% of the population. To make it worse, religious people tend to be older and the overwhelming majority of people under 30 aren't religious. And since the young people aren't becoming more religious as they age, the percentage of religious people there is likely to drop like a stone as the older generation dies off. David Cameron might be betting on the wrong horse here. 1 Like |

There is a huge need for more gyms and fitness centers and the most of the ones I've seen are expensive and poorly equipped. They also don't tend to target women much, too many benches and not enough treadmills. I'm not sure how profitable it'll be as a business though. Gym equipment is expensive plus you'll need a pretty large premises so you might end up having to charge more than most can afford. 2 Likes |
