Joshthefirst:I think I already mentioned octopus eyes. Your notion that our backwards eyes help photoreceptors get blood and nutrients is bollocks. Use you knowledge of anatomy, the photoreceptor layer is more than thin enough for nutrients to diffuse through. Plus if the blood vessels are coming from the back, there's no need for them to block anything. Besides octopuses manage just fine with non inverted retinas, There is no physiological benefit to having our retinas facing the wrong way. The brain makes up for the refractive distortions. While its true that our brains do an amazing job making up for our eyes' deficiencies, they can't overcome the laws of physics. A lot of fine detail is lost because of the distortion problems. Plus the fact that we can't clearly see things just in from of our noses is mainly due to the refraction problem. Fish don't have this issue, because they never left the water their eyes evolved to see in. That's why they can see in brilliant detail, in bright or low light, up close, far away, whatever. Why should we have shìt eyes and a powerful brain whe we could have had better eyes and a powerful brain? If thats what you got from reading the article then you need to learn comprehension. Don't blame it on me.This is a cheap strategy that can never work. You link to a creationist website filled with incoherent logic and you blame people for not comprehending something that doesn't make sense. You might have well have said we need the holy spirit to guide our understanding. |
^^^Why did god put our retinas in backwards causing blind spots, glaucoma and other problems? It's not like he couldn't create them facing the correct way, octopuses (octopi?) have retinas facing the right way and see much better than us. And why our eyes filled with liquid causing all sorts of distortion and refraction problems when the light passes from air to water? Why are fish able to see so much better than us with very similar eyes? It's almost as if our eyes were originally built to function underwater. Strange. N.B. Joshthefirst, you better watch all 13 episodes of Cosmos like I said. I'm going to cure you of this religion nonsense if its the last thing I do. Nigeria doesn't need any more doctors that don't know how to think. |
zeekleo:Reduce the resolution and graphics settings. You laptop has a low-end AMD APU in it. DOn't expect to play high end games at high framerates on it. You can't get blood from a stone. Also, GTA IV is very poorly optimised. It was an extremely bad port that runs badly on even very powerful PCs. You laptop can't cope. In general, you shouldn't expect to have a good gaming experience on a budget laptop. Gaming laptops are extremely overpriced and aren't worth it. If you want to play games, build a desktop and you'll get far more value for money. It is now possible to build a PC that outperforms the PS$ for less than your laptop costs brand new. |
@Joshthefirst I replied to you earlier but my post was hidden for some unknown reason and I can't be arsed to type it out again. The tl;dr is watch some YouTube videos, gain some knowledge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb9_x1wgm7E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrKZBh8BL_U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_s1cmOjvAQ If you like science and you want to learn more, I highly recommend Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. You can watch it on YouTube or download it from torrent sites. Knowledge is power |
Abuamam:Little known fact: King James (of the King James Bible) was a flaming homosexual. Yet many Christians claim it is the only truly inspired translation of the bible. Its funny how the passage of time can make anything seem so dignified. |
Joshthefirst:No. I've yet to encounter anything in nature that can't be explained through natural processes. All the examples creationists give are either strawmen (eg the self-assembling 747) or have been clearly shown to have evolved with no need for a designer (e.g. the human eye). There is no scientific basis for believing in a creator because there is no evidence of one. And there is no philosophical basis it because assuming one exists is solving a problem by creating a bigger one. Intelligent design is not an explanation. All it does is push the problem down the road by making up a magical creator which it then makes no attempt to explain. The principle of parsimony states that you should make as few assumptions as possible when forming hypotheses. All things being equal, the simplest explanation is always the correct one. And god is not a simple explanation, it is a huge assumption with essentially zero empirical evidence to back it up. Google Occam's Razor. |
DProDG:Where did he say this? Does he have another account? Cos the one he used is still suspended. |
His account was suspended by twitter yesterday. Because plenty people reported him. I was impressed with the way people were condemning tribalism on the internet as the results were coming out. It looks like our generation are learning from our parents mistakes. There are still plenty of dúllards that still dont get it, but most people dont hesitate to shut them up whenever they start talking. |
wiegraf:Guy! You should write a book. |
I wonder why these people are so opposed to Jonathan? After all, it was just 15,500 of their people that died needlessly because of him. Why are they being so wicked and vindictive. They should learn to turn the other cheek and vote for continuity. GEJ will 2299! Star Trek tins. |
@wiegraf Sauce please. I like to read as much old literature as I can find but I don't believe anything I only see on Nairaland. Sorry. |
Ifeann:Fair enough. But you really should search Nairaland or the internet in general to see if what you want to post has already been debunked. You have no idea how annoying it is to have to kill the same zombie argument over and over again. It seems that because Christians cant win on logic, their strategy is to wear atheists down by spamming the section with the same copy/pasted nonsense in multiple threads and pretending each time that its a fresh idea that just occurred to them. The moment no atheist bothers to reply, they start circlejerking each other that they've "proved" god exists and "defeated" the foolish atheists. The amount of energy needed to refute bullshít is an order of magnitude more than the energy needed to produce it. And its very tiring. |
And as President Jonathan and his wife arrived, the average IQ of Otueke dropped by 26.7 percentage points. Experts are currently investigating whether this was a coincidence or whether some highly unintelligent people have recently entered the town. |
Since religious people insist on regurgitating the same dead arguments over and over, I'm going to just copy and paste the same thing I posted 4 years ago. EvilBrain1: |
IzonOwei:The problem with that is that we'll kniw exactly who was accredited at each polling station. We expect that over 60% of voters will be biometrically verified and will have their fingerprints confirmed electronically. If theres a polling booth where 90% of voters weren't electronically confirmed and PDP won massively there, we'll know they rigged and we can check for palm kernels. In any case, we dont need to eliminate rigging completely. We just need to reduce it to the level where it can't overide the will of the people. Without massive rigging, Jonathan has no hope. |
dazdilijae:Not with the PVCs and the biometric card readers. Why do you think PDP is so vehemently against them? The game is up. No more palm kernel voting so rigging is going to be far harder than before. At the same time, many people who voted GEJ 4 years ago have lost faith in him and will stay at home even if they dont like Buhari. Meanwhile, APC supporters are far more motivated than PDP's thanks to Jonathans terrible performance. They are going to turn out massively and drag their friends and relatives to the polling booth. There is no way APC can lose. |
jacksonite:Why does a religion have to approve of it? Which religion approves of gender equality? Or freedom of expression? Or banning slavery? Or laws against genocide and killing of non-combatants during war? You'd better not try and claim Christianity unless you want to get buried in horrible bible verses from both the old and new testaments. You need to realize that there are plenty of people who dont live their lives according to yours or any other religion. Those peopleshould not have your nonsense imposed on them the same way you Christians shouldnt have Islamic nonsense imposed on you. If you want to join the christian taliban and start demanding that everyone be subject to your Sharia, expect people to fight you to a standstill. Homosexuals have every right to be proud of who they are, just like everybody else. Your religious beliefs are not their problem. |
Joshthefirst:The central premise of your thread has been comprehensively debunked both here and elsewhere. The fact that so far no one from your camp has has attempted to rebutt my last (on topic) post is effectively a concession. If you have any more fallacious logic for us to shoot down, nobody is stopping you from posting it. In the mean time, you cant really blame others for moving on to more pressing issues. You'll thank us next time Earth is attacked. |
dazekid:Dont buy second hand laptops, or second hand electronics in general. You might be lucky, but more often it turns out to be a big mistake. Laptops tend to be expensive or even impossible to fix when something spoils. You'll almost certainly end up spending more than the difference in price of a new one if theres a problem. On top of that, theres the issue of planned obsolesence. Electronic manufacturers dont build to last anymore. They assume that youll replace the laptop after about 2 years of use so they tend to use cheaper, less durable parts. If the previous ow er used it for a year before selling, it you are basically buying a timebomb. Its pretty much guaranteed that one component or the other will fail soon, whether a hinge or the hard drive or whatever. Nowadays, companies likke Konga and Jumia sell brand new at competitive prices with warranties. Save your money and buy from them. |
tziz:Sorry, I meant you can get them starting from like 70k. Will edit for clarity. |
DProDG:A mouse and keyboard are cheap. I didnt add them becaise they don't add significantly to the cost of the system unless youre buying overoriced branded stuff. Also, consoles dont come with a monitor either so its not fair to compare the cost of a PC ezpecially since you can also plug a computer ibto your existing HDTV. And while I agree that a desktop with a dedicated GPU is better, you shouldnt underestimate the newest Intel integratedgraphics. I have an i3 laptop with HD4000 that definitely outperforms the PS3 in Skyrim, Tomb Raider, Arkham City and a bunch of other games. The HD4000 is actually not terrible as long as you upgrade the drivers (having dual channel RAM also makes a big difference). Thats strictly 720p though, but so were most previous gen games. |
Donjay007:If you want to play games, the best thing is to build a desktop. Gaming laptops are crazily expensive. You need to spend upwards of $1000 (N200k) to get even decent performance on the latest games. If you want to game on a budget, buy or build a cheap core i3 or i5 desktop and put the most powerful graphics card you can afford into it. AMD cards tend to be more powerful than Nvidia cards at the same price. And try and stick with the latest generation of graphics cards, import one fron the US if you have to, just avoid old cards. On the other hand, if you only want to play old games, the latest generation of core i3 and i5 laptops with cheap integrated graphics outperform the PS3 and xbox 360 in most games and you can get them from about 70k. A desktop would still get you better performance for the same price though. *Edited for clarity |
sonmvayina:Let me jus leave this right here... https://www.quickmeme.com/img/40/4038fa856347fe71df66aa2d1dd077c7761495ceb31387a614252f3c18a4aa23.jpg |
wordcat:Sadly bejng an atheist doesnt automagically make you a good person. You still have to choose, every day, not to be an ásshole. Benny Him woke up every morning of his long career. And every morning he decided to continue scamming sick, desperatr people for money. Maybe he'll still have enough humanity left to admit its all lies before he dies. Maybe he'll feel guilty enough to try and limit the damage he's done to his fellow man. I seriously doubt it though. |
lagoscrimefree:When they asked him why the army didnt get serious about Boko Haram months or years ago, he actually claimed that he never know the problem was going to be this bad. Imagine! As if Boko Haram just appeared overnight. We've all being watchibg this slow-motion trailer accident for 6 years and Jonathan didnt realize it was serious until one week before FeBuhari 14. Meanwhile he's been budgeting close to $5billion a year for security with nothing to show. Except for our brave soldiers being sentenced to death because they asked for bullets to fight. Five more days! |
oluseyiforjesus:Sorry, you cant vote outside your polling station for now. At present, its more important to block the vote riggers than to allow things like that. Baby steps. Unfortunately, I cant vote either because I'm stuck in Sierra Leone doing Ebola tins. Ive been carrying my voters card around everyday to no avail. Maybe after we vote out the criminals presently ruling us, we can put Nigeria on the path to making such things possible. 5 more days! |
akocce:Rubbish. The correct pronounciation is Ffuuss... Roh DAAH!!! |
myhoodlink:Thanks, but no thanks. From what I've seen of this administration, there is nothing that can convince me to support them. Enough is enough. Let Jonthan and future politicians learn the hard way that you need to keep the people happy if you want their support. After this election, no Nigerian president will ever go for a birthday party hours after over 50 children are murdered in one of his schools. No president will ever take 3 weeks to respond to the kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls. No president will ever go dancing at a rally hours after a massive bomb blast. No president will ever tell his people that he "doesnt give a damn" when they ask him to declare his assets. No president willbever ask for a new private jet during a time austerity Sometimes the only way to teach someone is with koboko. An Jonathan and co are going to learn a hard learn by force next week, they cannot escape. |
myhoodlink:The people who organised the exam already verified him almost immediately this fake controversy started. Plus even without it, hes still qualified via his years in the army and his War College degree. This certificate rubbish is just noise and you know it. This thing is not really about credentials, its about credibility. And the PDP has only managed to weaken Jonathans by starting this roforofo fight. And to all of you making fun of Buhari's accent, shame on you. The man never claimed to be an academic or to be born with a silver spoon. He was a village boy from a poor background, who joined the army, served his country well and rose to the highest ranks. Instead of you to be proud that such a thing is possible in your country, you're pointing and laughing like elitist bigots. Maybe you think its only phoné speaking children of the rich who should be president. Luckily, most of us are more sensible. |
