@Evil brain, from your last reply to me, if you say I'm dumb like Okonjo Iweala, I will take it as a complement. It's really flattering to me. Hahaha.
There's a difference between being st.upid and acting st.upid. You and Okonjo-Iweala are acting st.upid.
PoliticsRe: There's A Grand Plot To Islamise Nigeria-pastor Oritsejafor by EvilBrain1(m): 12:26am On Jan 02, 2012
Of course people are trying to islamise Nigeria. Are Christians not also trying to spread their own faith? If anything, the Christians are the more aggressive of the two religions with their constant carpet-bombing with fliers, stickers and their horrible music. Proselytizing is an essential (and very annoying) feature of all monotheistic religions.

The pastor needs to STFU and stop talking st.upid.

Oritsejafor has said some really ret@rded things against muslims recently which have the potential to cause serious sectarian animosity. He definitely deserves all the abuse he's getting.

Yusuf definitely went a little too far, especially with the quotes about the pastor's mother and the one about drugs, but his heart is in the right place.

This battle over subsidy is likely to last a long time. People should try and stock up on food and cash, there's no guarantee that ATM machines will get refilled if the strike lasts long enough. Try and avoid unnecessary movements, and be aware that thugs might try to hijack the protests to rob people.

Stay safe!

People should be aware that the police is likely to look for any excuse to teargas or shoot unarmed protesters. Do not let them provoke you into violence. Keep it peaceful and we will win.

Let's try and keep the bloodshed to a minimum.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the pro-people civil groups have asked Nigerians to resist the imposition of the new fuel prices, resulting from government’s unceremonious removal of fuel subsidy.

A joint press statement by the NLC and TUC said all state councils and unions have been directed to forthwith resist any price above 65 naira per liter of PMS and await a date for the commencement of general strikes and mass protests across the country.

The statement said the removal, which it termed a “New Year gift by the presidency”, is callous, insensitive and is intended to cause anarchy in the country.

It said the sudden removal is a clear demonstration that the Jonathan administration cannot be trusted, considering the fact that the administration had told Nigerians it was consulting on the issue which would take effect from April 1, 2012, if contemplated.

The Labour groups said Nigerians must begin immediate mobilization towards the commencement of the strikes, street demonstrations and mass protests across the country to resist the chaos which the Federal Government is trying to impose on the country.

The groups also warned security outfits to resist any order to shoot or attack Nigerians during the protest with a threat that such officers would be brought to justice.

According to the statement, dates for the organized national strikes and mass protests will be announced in the next few days and the NLC is ready for dig in for the long haul, saying: “This promises to be a long drawn battle; we know its beginning, but we do not know its end or when it will end. But we are confident that the Nigerian people will triumph over the cabal in Aso rock.”

Meanwhile, in a telephone interview with Channels Television, TUC president, Comrade Peter Esele said they were surprised that the government would proceed to implement the removal without recourse of the national assembly, adding that the PPPRA did not consult with labour unions that are on the board of the agency before fixing the new price of fuel.
This is the time to stand up and fight for your country. The era of talking has passed. The people have to rise up and take Nigeria back from the liars and thieves in Abuja. It's time to go to war against these criminals.

Who's with me?!

@Evil brain, fortunately for me and unfortunately for you, I don't do insults so I'll just skip that part and go to the meat.

Ask our neighbors the Ghanians. They have been able to actively recognize the impact of energy efficiency on energy utilization. More on this later.
The Ghanians are not starving. And their fuel subsidy removal amounted to less than a 15% increase in prices. Our fuel prices have jumped over 100% which is enough to sink millions into poverty by the time we factor in all the multiplier effects on the economy. People, especially children, are literally going to die over this. From malnutrition and from preventable diseases like when they don't have money left for the baby's antimalarials after paying for the suddenly more expensive food, rent and transport.

And all this is happening at a time when senators earn more than Obama and Jonathan is eating N1billion worth of food. And you're yammering about energy efficiency.

You're just like Okonjo-Iweala and co. You're so busy staring at one tree that you can't see that the forest is burning. I say again that for a smart person, you're being really dumb.

Did you know that research has shown that fuel subsidies discourage the development of energy efficient systems? When heads cool down a bit, I will give a little online lecture on "Energy Utilization and Energy Efficiency".

Activism is good but I prefer to be a part of those who make real impact in issues like this.
Did you know that research has shown that STFU m0r0n. All that stuff doesn't apply when there is this level of poverty and corruption. The average Nigerian is barely managing to keep his children from getting kwashiorkor or marasmus and you're running your mouth about "energy efficiency". For a smart person, you are really, really dumb.

Anybody who earns N18000 a month cannot possibly be a member of PDP so whatever happens to them is not the president's concern. The real Nigerians get their fuel from government free and can easily afford to pay N1000 per litre if need be.

my exact sentiments, As of today, the nigerian govt has no contribution to my existence and economic wellbeing.

my destiny is in my sole hands and if it includes economic sabotage, SO BE IT
The federal government is nothing more that a burden. Despite paying taxes, the vast majority of Nigerians derive absolutely no benefit from it's existence now that the subsidy is gone. We generate our own electricity, are in charge of our own security and we don't dare call the police to help when we are in trouble. In fact, all three times I got robbed last year, it was by policemen in uniform.

If Nigerians gain nothing from government, what motivation do t hey have to defend it? What do Nigerians have to lose if there is a Libya style revolt or a coup?

The only things worth saving are the few state governments that are doing well. Otherwise, we might as well burn the whole thing down and start again.
PoliticsRe: Breaking News: Fuel Subsidy Removed by EvilBrain1(m): 6:55pm On Jan 01, 2012
Nigerians should prepare for the mother of all NLC strikes. The economy is about to grind to a halt. Ordinary Nigerians and small businesses are going to lose billions.

There are going to be massive protests, the police is going to teargas and probably shoot unarmed protesters. This subsidy issue is going to lead to total mayhem.

Suddenly, the Libya situation is no longer far fetched. And sadly, neither is a coup.

i have read most post on dis thread. i havent really seen anyone  who has  really stated the multiplier effects  as a removal of d subsidy. Which is the important question we should really be asking. fine money gotten would be put into other projects, but  how long  are people gonna feel the effects and long are the developmental projects gonna be completed.
One of my earlier posts:

Removing subsidy is not going to provide any stimulus. In fact, it will do the exact opposite because they just drastically reduced everybody's disposable income. That will lead to less spending => less economic activity => the closing down of many small businesses => fewer private sector jobs => more unemployment => more poverty => less development.

The handful of refineries that may or may not get built as a result of this won't be anywhere near enough to compensate for all this. The government will grow even bigger relative to the private sector than it is now. And everybody who isn't a member of PDP will get poorer.

GEJ has told you that you will begin to see the benefits of subsidy removal in 6 months, so why not wait?
Right, we should allow the bloated, corrupt government to take more money out of our pockets to fund their inflated, corrupt projects. The government has totally mismanaged the money it has available to it, and your solution is to give them more? You are either completely insane, or are benefiting somehow from their corruption.

PPRA must be day dreaming. A dollar is N163 to $1. And I tell you if in the city the price is N146, then in the villages, you will be certain it will be N300.
maasoap:
Even PPPRA made announcement of #141 per litre! Is setting the price for the marketers part of de-regulation? How can you dictate new price and still call it competitive price? Pro-subsidy removal on Nairaland said govt has nothing to do with business, but why dictating the price now? These people are not sincere at all. I only pity those who are supporting them blindly and making a case for their anti-people policy.
Have no doubt that the government is still going to be setting prices. By the time northerners start complaining that they are paying far more for fuel than people in the south; or the next time oil prices rise and it starts getting close to N200 per litre. You can bet your @ss that they'll succumb to political pressure and start "stabilizing" and "price fixing" (with a heavy dose of corruption) again.

Deregulation my foot.

We all know that removing fuel subsidy is supposed to provide stimulus for development and all that, but what people are worried about is that this government is not capable of delivering on those development. This more of an issue of distrust of the government.
Having said that, I will say lets give them a chance. It would have been noce if the government can provide other forms of credit for the people in place of the fuel subsidy.

When are you people going to stop swallowing PDP lies? They managed to deceive the gullible masses that Jonathan was the only safe choice and look at where that has landed us. If we had voted for anybody else (and not necessarily Buhari), we would have been heading in a completely different direction by now.

Sadly, we are stuck with Jonathan and the PDP for at least the next three years and we will all have to pay for the st.upid choice that most of us (but not me) made back in April. The future looks very bleak.

@OP

What you're saying is like asking which is better for curing malaria, charcoal or sand? While its likely that one is better than the other, the point is moot because both of them are basically useless.

And both the bible and the koran can be massaged into supporting practically anything. They can both be interpreted any way you want depending on your imagination and whatever preconcieved ideas you have about them. If you think the bible supports the koran, its only because you have chosen to see it that way.

Some people believe the koran is the most noble book ever written, while others believe that it supports mindless violence, mistreatment of women, and child molestation. And both groups of people are right in a way, because religious books are all things to all people.
